I was recently on Knex.com where I found two new sets that had just come out Lava launch coaster and Loopin' lighting coaster. One thing I noticed on the lava one was that the main structure was made out of micro knex! WHY??????? Can't they just go back to making sets like big ball factory thats very substantial and strong rather than weak rubbish micro knex. Another example is the motorized madness ball machine which I not even sure whether it uses any normal knex. Annoyingly I think old sets or just boxes of random stuff off ebay is the only way. I would be happy to hear your thoughts.

Hi , new to instructables and have been looking at some posts and am now confused. Im in the process of seting up a led lighting board, I am using 20 blue high power 1W led's 350mw each. My plan is to run them from a computer power supply, but am unsure of the safest way to hook them up, parallel with a resistor for each or so on, I am basic when it comes to electronics and components, i can read a basic diagram. Also some parts listed in high power led driver on this site are parts numbers that are not available in Australia, i know i need to regulate voltage and current at 3.5v and 350ma but don't know what parts to use, i used led calculator and was told to use a 1watt 5.6ohm resistor in parallel. Please help

I have had a lot of success with instructables that have more than one objective in view. For example, my K'NEX Gun Attachments 'ible has had almost 4,000 views (not to mention 22 favorites), and I think that the main reason for this can be extensively attributed to the fact that there is more than one thing to look at within the 'ible. After all, look at BM2's L85A2. The gun is amazing, but people also (note the word ALSO, there) love the ACOG that he has included within the pictures. I think that this could be used again in a really cool instructable "initiative" that I wanted to propose to you guys. My idea is this. Why must we always post instructables with only one item included within them? I see no reason for why this should always be, so I propose this. A pistol instructable. What we would do is (a collection of us) build a bunch of shooting pistols (no models please) whether replicas or not, I don't care, so long as they shot and are relatively new (no carbon copies of other builds). Then, at the end of say, April, I would make and invite a bunch of you guys to post your pistols onto an instructable, and then I'd finally post after everybody got theirs added and edited. What do you guys think? The idea kinda seem sorta far fetched, but we could give it a whirl all the same...? -The Red Book of Westmarch

I was thinking about doing a wire chess set. Since it was suggested by CaitlinsDad over here: https://www.instructables.com/community/Requesting-feedback-on-a-Fire-Breathing-Dragon-tes/ Came up with this. These are rough (obviously), the rook should have crenelations and I did the king and queen in the same piece. It's like 5 AM and my fingers hurt from working on a wire Nine Tailed Fox (from Naruto) for my son. So, I took a short cut. The picture should make it clear how I'm planning to make things look. The knight is abstract, it always bothers me when the horse is the only thing with any detail. The pawn is about 1/2" x 1" tall, the queen would be just under 2" tall, the king is about 2 1/4" tall, both by 1" wide, the other 3 are about 1 1/2" x 3/4". It is done in 18g galvanized steel. Anybody still reading? Great! I'd love to get some feedback, good, bad, anything to either confirm it is just the best thing ever OR how it could be improved towards that goal. So don't hold back. Cheers.

Hi, I need to glue an acrylic sheet over a wood maze, which size is around 12x24", so there would be a lot of line to apply the epoxy over it, I think it would take me around 15 minutes of even less I am fast and prepared for it, so I was thinking in using a slow set epoxy. Please any info or advice, how slow can a epoxy be? I would be glad with a 45 minute epoxy, but will it really dry until passed that time? thanks.

I need a detector for my crystal set,but don't want to use a geranium diode or that "cats whisker detector" that i cant get to work. PLEASE HELP ME, I NEED HELP!!! the cats whisker detector i used was a blued piece of steel / carbon (or pencil lead) from Youtube: [search] [make magazine foxhole radio] if a mineral like geranium, galea, iron pyrite (fools gold) work well, i would like to know how to obtain it without buying anything online? (i mainly don't want use a geranium diode because one i had burnt up. another reason why i don't want a 1N34A is because it isn't available at any "real physical" stores (like Radioshack ) i don't mind to use another type of diode. what about a schottky diode? do they sell any @ radioshack? and will it work?

The mic will be used to pick up audio from numerous people through out a living room, and transmitted streaming via an XBOX 360 controller. I am also trying to use existing materials, in addition this will later be built into a true instructable. Any pointers would be awesome, I even toyed with the idea of making it into a parabolic mike and pointing it at the ceiling to pick up sounds through out the room. Currently the microphone has an area where the sound is obviously designed to be picked up only from the speakers mouth. Good news is its easy to take the headset apart, its screwed rather then glued together. The Bad news, all the wiring is ultra thin enamel coated, so very evil to solder, well for me anyhow. I have included a picture of the actual headset. The ear-phones will be redirected to amplified speakers and the 2.5mm jack has to remain to hook up to the controller. This is not because it is some special jack, just trying to make it appear stock when I'm done. Any help would be awesome, and credit will be given of course, thanks in advance.

What can I use to make a slide for my toddler? I want to attach it somehow to the swingset I made for him.
I have this (steel? it's heavy) case for an army radio set that I found dumpster diving with my Dad more than 10 years ago. I haven't used it for anything, and am now noticing it has great potential for being a case for some kind of project. It's got a rim on the inside with screwholes that I could mount a plate on, and I beleive it's watertight. I always love doing cool stuff, but I don't really have the technical imagination to come up with something. I'll take any and all ideas, and once I clean out my garage and get my workbench built in there, I'll get to it :-) I think it would very cool to collaborate with some people closely and build something unique here... Thanks PS: Also, if anyone has any knowledge relating to what kind of radio gear this might have held at one point, please share it with me. I've transcribed the contents of the plate on the front, maybe have a look and see if anything pops out.

Greetings again, Sorry I didn't photograph all I went through to create this miniature circus tent that is my stage for a movie I'm making. It was a difficult project as i work without any idea of how it would work. I just knew that I wanted it to look like what one would think a circus tent would look like. I can give descriptions of how I made it: The tent material is kite fabric that I bought online from kitebuilders.com. I also bought two rolls of double face tape from them. There is the cheap one that worked great for piecing the tent pieces together and one that costs about $16 that I used to add in the roping that ties fabric to the tent poles. For the tent main support poles I bought 2 3' pieces of 1/2" aluminum from Home Despot. Here's how it went together: I made two semi-circle pieces out of triangle pieces of red and yellow fabric. The main tent poles are embedded in a 1" piece of flake board. In order to hold up the tent while I pieced other parts to it I made two circles of 1/4" board with 1/2" holes drilled so they would slip over the aluminum pole and held them up with clamps until I got them to the proper height. The tent towers cam next. These were made with smaller triangle pieces to make a full circle. As the top of the tower would be holding up the entire structure so I used a 2" metal ring at the top. To attach I cut slices at the top and folded them over ring and used the double face tape to secure. So now I've got the two ends of the tent and the two towers but nothing is holding them together. And there is still the center section that has to be made. My next step was to add tent poles at the corners and other strategic positions. I jury rigged all connections with paper clamps, tape and what ever else I could thing of to hold the thing together long enough to force fit. From here I did a rough markup of where I thought the tie down roping should be. I then used some cotton rope (3/16" approx). Once again, simple slices in fabric turned under and held together with dbl face tape worked. I must say I worked through three different ways of doing this until I got something that worked. I left a lot of extra rope between the arcs so I could attach to the tent poles. These poles are just pieces of 5/8" dowels. The towers and the main tent pieces were also connected with dbl face tape. I made two circle frames out of 1/16" steel cable (@ 10 cents a foot) and used a swedge connector on each. This gave me a way to alternate tower and main connections that pull against the cable and not the fabric. Worked great. The last part was to fabricate pieces to add between the towers to complete the tent. You will notice that one side is completely open. That's were I will film from. The last thing I added was a large lazy-susan bearing so the entire stage can revolve as needed. I have also created a stage that fits inside the tent. And, lighting and back drops. I'll show those at a later date. There will be a YouTube video in a few days. I'm editing it right now.

But haven't a lot of "resources", so mostly unwanted sets that I could pay shipping to take them off your hands. They are for special "classes" / tutoring segments I am having with an Asperger's Syndrome child. (NOT the one in the video.... I am working on a wide variety of projects for the youngster. From "squishy circuits" to robotics, to chemistry and metalurgy, but she has a keen interest in dinosaurs and Roman history, and I am a bit lost on Roman history....any suggestions on how to get THAT worked into an interesting project? Thank you Gmoon for stepping up to the plate and getting me started on this project. It will mean the WORLD to my wonderfully attentive student :-)

I need a website but you know what? I think all these webhosting services are just a big ripoff. I don't want to pay to host a website, I want to do it from home! I know it can be done, Red VS. BLue is one example of people who did this. I did some research, but nothing I found was very useful. I don't want a fileserver, I want an actual web server. I have searched deep into the web, but I can find nothing except theory or how to buy service. If you know anything about making or setting up a web server, please post it here. When on my profile page, I see three options near the top, just under my picture: Profile, Classes, and Settings. Below those are what seems to be a feed, perhaps, with only one item that says I joined instructables. When it first loads, Profile is highlighted. If I click on Classes or Settings, something seems to load, but I still see the same feed - no classes, no settings. In order to get back to a class I had started previously, I had navigate to it by browsing classes. This seems like a bug, but if there's something I'm doing wrong please let me know. Thanks, Steve

This entire chess set is made out of chain mail. The amount of work that must have gone into this is mind-boggling. You will certainly lose the nice sound of solidly dropping a piece into a new strategic location, but maybe the clank of chain mail on chain mail will be even more satisfying.Link

I just made an excel spreadsheet, that predicts the future of data sets. My main reason was because I wanted to have a way to predict my Instructable views, but this could be used for a lot more. This is not completely accurate (as it uses the best fitting line of the data) so don't believe it completely. To use it, just change the first two numbers (at least) to values you want to see grow. Any value you don't know. Mark with n

At the moment, I am in possession of a really old, monochromatic surveillance monitor and camera. Both the camera and monitor have their own microphones and speakers (low quality), with the camera speaker being the louder one. The monitor has multiple inputs for audio and video (red/yellow/white). The set-up itself is not very large, the monitor is smaller than an overhead project by a 25% or more. Now my question is what do with it?

Hello Makers, Teachers and Students - I have the opportunity to set up a Maker Room at my school. I was hoping to get some advice from the Instructables community on best practices. What equipment is most useful? What is the best use of space? Where should I start? Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated! The photo is my "before" picture. I hope to have a great "after" picture when I am done.

Well I have tryed this recipe https://www.instructables.com/id/E6GFU1NWXTEVYDYEQA/ and have done everything. Though, i used single cream instead of whipped cream, and i didnt put sugar syrup. I didnt think that these would make a difference (i didnt have these), so, do they? I have put it in the fridge for 15 mins, taken it out, stirred, and put back in x2 and it still isnt thickening. Does anyone know why?
