Shaving Blog

Hey everyone! I've been making instructables in an attempt to bring more traffic to my blog. It's all about safety razor shaving and why its better than the traditional cartridge razor shaving.  Could anyone offer any tips or tricks to increasing traffic to my site? Also, please feel free to comment on my most recent instructable. http://secretguidetoshaving.blogspot.com/ and my instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/So-you-want-an-old-fashioned-double-edged-safety-r/

Every year people instinctively know what to purchase me due to my interest in shaving.  If you are unaware of it, you can attain a solid shaving package for about $50. They make GREAT gifts and last virtually forever. Beats a fruitcake.

Shaving: Electric vs. Manual

Alright so here goes the argument: Which method of cleansing your face from unwarranted hair and stubble is better? The age old shaving with a disposable razor and your favorite cream, or perhaps using a more expensive but quicker and safer electric, even if you get a not as close shave. Let's see what you have to say...

Shaving me head for charity

I'm going to be shaving my head for charity, in order to microfinance third world countries. I was wondering if anyone on instructables would like to help by donation. I'll post before and after pictures on here once I get the amount of money we need (Which is about 1800 dollars, to buy a proper carpentry set for a man in Ghana.) I'm also working with people in my community to do this. You won't be scammed as you don't need to give me any money. Here's how it'll work: 1: Post here how much you'll donate 2: Go to KIVA.com and register an account 3: I will provide you with a link to the recipient 4: You will donate the money on a given day, at which point (when I see that the transaction is through) I will shave my head, pictures and all. 5: You may laugh at my discomfort.

How and what to make a shaving bowl out of?

I want to make my boyfriend a shaving bowl for Xmas. I am handy with just about any medium and am not sure which I should use. Clay or Ceramic would be nice but I know nothing of either of them. It obviously has to be able to hold shaving cream...was wanting to make it in the shape of our cat (he's a big cat) so i guess the bowl part would be his body. So a bowl with a head, legs, and a tail. Anyone got any suggestions?

DIY Hacks for Tiny Bathroom (solving the world's serious issues)

We all know it's a major problem circumnavigating the globe: tiny bathroom living.  My burning question is... How is one supposed to shave their legs in a shower-stall-only bathroom?  Must we sit on the floor with our legs hanging out of the shower just so we can function? Is there no one who can stop this injustice!? What DIY hack can YOU come up with to solve this ever-growing epidemic? (Or what do YOU do to accomplish a streamlined look?)  Save the hairy legs! Thank you.

i make cricket bats.i would like to have a shaper machine that would assist me in this venture ... can any one help?

Cricket is a game played in most parts of the world. Somewhat similar to the baseball game.it has a wooden bat made of willow.(please look it up on the net.) the shape of the bat is unique, with almost no flat surface to it. Even the front is slightly curved. I make these bats by hand.... which takes away a lot of my energy doing mundane shaving volumes of wood to get to a basic shape. This is further shaved to a specific shape. I would like to have a machine... to help me do this. I have seen a surfboard shaper that is close to getting the curves on the willow blades. if i could achieve this as cheaply as possible (i am not well to do, with limited funds at my disposal) this would be of a great help. I live in mumbai...which is a city in.. India. Thanking all the guys who could help ..........in advance.

Mating gold plated jewely and brass?

I'm working on a simple little design for a present where I have this cheap gold plated signet ring and I'm going to be taking a small portion of those spiral shavings from a piece of brass stock and creating an Archimedean spiral pattern which needs to mate with the face of the ring. The inner metal of the ring is unknown, and due to the thinness of both materials welding seems out of the question. How should I mate these two objects together?

An ode to bald men

When I was a child, in a galaxy far, far away, during the turbulent times of the 70's, my brother and I watched our little black and white Zenith® TV. I remember watching shows like Kojak, Columbo, The Streets of San Francisco, The Six Million Dollar Man, Police Woman, and many others. I also watched late night movies like Yul Brynner in The Magnificent Seven. Watching Telly Savalas and Yul Brynner with their manly bald look. Years later when I lost my mane I became inspired by these two actors that shaved their heads during those years. One day I decided to shave whatever little hair I had left and started to proudly show my shiny head. The first day my wife took a good look at me, told me that I looked "sexy". That is when I took her to the eye doctor for a new pair of glasses. I have been showing my baldness proudly for a number of years and I wonder if more of my Instructables brethren share my views. Remember: God made a few perfect heads and the rest He put hair on them.

How can I make a dry ice blasting machine?

I have seen commercial machines that use compressed air to shoot a stream of dry ice (CO2) pellets or shavings at a dirty, oily machine to clean its surfaces. Unlike sandblasting, the CO2 sublimates (goes from solid to gas without passing through 'liquid') and leaves no residue other than the crud it blasted off. It can even be used on machines or electrical panels that are powered up! But these machines cost multiple $1000s. Anyone have a plan or experience with a DIY version? Thanks.

Quadcopters on pcDuino

Fter researching auxiliary processors, we decided to use the pcDuino for controlling our drone. The choice was an obvious one because it was not only the lightest of the choices, but also one of the least expensive, and in addition was running Linux as well as providing a wireless card. On arrival we quickly connected it to a monitor, but the adapters we purchased did not work. So as result we shaved rubber off of one of the adapters so that it fit properly in the monitor to connect to the port.  We were able to gather some of the peripherals(USB hub, mouse, and keyboard) key from our computer department for the project. http://esdartemis.wordpress.com/2014/01/15/new-pcduino/

Can I power a Nintendo Wii with a 12 volt lead acid battery? Answered

I've decided to make a (somewhat) portable Wii, and I'm hoping to use a 12 volt 7AH battery to power it. The batteries will be attached directly to the power input on the console (with a filter cap). Here's what's been bugging me, though. The Wii's normal AC adapter puts out ~12.2 VDC, A sealed lead acid battery, however, puts out 12.6 when fully charged. Will that 0.4 volts do anything, or am I just being a nut? If it does, can I shave off that 0.4 volts with anything?

How do i thin out the wall of a PVC pipe?

Hi there everyone I am in a process of building a PVC bike trailer out of 40 mm PN 20 type of pipe. At the neck of the trailer where the cross-shaped yellow piece swivels horizontally - permitting the trailer turn left and right - , and just under it, where the lower red elbows swivel vertically - permitting the trailer to move up and down - are the two white pipes that i want to shave 1 or a bit more mm off of. I bought the materials but in a very interesting way the pipes don't fit inside the fittings. They need to be warmed up and then they fit inside one another getting stuck forever. No glue needed.  If i buy  the next largest fitting size - 50 mm - the gap is just too big. So it's a no go. That's why I ask you people: How do i shave off 1-2 mm of the white pipes in the picture so they slide in easily in the fittings? I want to point out that unfortunately I don't have access  to any heavy-duty machinery. So a manual way of doing this would be much appreciated.  P.S. the red dots on the picture are fixed points or dabs of glue if you like. The green dots mark out the movements of the components. For example the yellow cross is glued to the green pipes witch are glued to the red elbows witch in turn are glued to the other green pipes. Here only the yellow cross swivels on the vertical white pipe. :) I hope you got it :)

Would Polyurethane resin & Oak saw dust make a durable, wood looking ring?

I am wanting to make my own wedding rings for a more unique & special ring.  I do not have the proper equipment to make the ones from wood shavings but I have experimented with resin rings before & I was wondering if I could apply that method with polyurethane resin and sawdust to get a durable ring?  I have the mold for my ring but don't want to go through the hassle of wasting money buying things that will not work.  If you have ever tried this please let me know how it turned out.  I want it to look like a real wooden ring and not cheap.

do ammeters that have an independent power supply require a specific voltage to work?

Hello, for a DIY project i plan on taking on soon, i need to measure amperage, and i have been looking for a digital ammeter, as the analogue one shave been to bulky to use. i need to know, if this ammeter will be able to read amperage at 3v-5v http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item;=120686900155&ssPageName;=ADME:X:eRTM:AU:1123 it says it needs 6v -15v input, but this is just to power it, and isnt what is being measured. i need to know, do ammeters need a current with perticular voltage to properly measure the amperage? ive seen others that operate on 0-30vdc, and others that must have 12v or 24v, and the rest dont say at all how they work.

Peter is getting old..

I don't know how many people are fans of Peter Gabriel, but I just got into him enough to even to research on him :S . I've seen his videos and everything and it seems he did that big concert in 94 and then the videos on youtube skipped to around 2003/2004 and he's suddenly looks really old. He shaved his head and his hair is white. But 94 wasn't that long ago, what happened? I saw one of his 2003 live concert videos, and someone stupid said that he sounded exactly as good as he did at the secret world concert 94. But you can tell he's more raspy and I guess "dry" sounding. He can't do the wicked "noises" or whatnot like on the begginging of sledgehammer. He's slowed down a little bit too. It makes me rather sad to seem him like that :( . Anyone have any opinions?

Movember Ends Soon...

And so it begins... To raise awareness of mens' health, particularly prostate cancer, thousands of men around the world are growing moustaches through the month of Movember. If you would like to donate to this important cause, then, please, donate here.  Don't forget, if you're a UK taxpayer, you can gift-aid your donation and increase its value by 30% with no extra cost to you. (And thanks to Canucksgirl for the new avatar) EDIT: (11th November) I was tidying the 'tache for Rememberance Parade, so I thought it was time to share progress here. Don't forget, you can still donate all through November. Further Edit: Movember ends on Friday, and you can still donate [click here]. I am under strict instructions that the end of Movember will be celebrated with a fresh razor, so I plan to document the removal "live" on Twitter, posting pictures during the shave.

Will a Laser Cutter cut Phenolic?

My dad's engineering company just "bought" a $20,000 engraver to engrave phenolic tags. (They cost $8 a piece normally, but the raw materials is only $0.25 a tag). The reason I say "bought" is because they have it, but theres been problems with it so they haven't paid for it yet, and can return it. The engraver takes 15 minutes to do 15 tags, and requires constant monitoring to make sure that the vacuum that sucks up the shavings doesn't suck the tag up itself. I thought a laser cutter would be much, much simpler. (And after engraving about 200 of these, in batches of 5, I know it would be) The major block is weather or not it can cut the phenolic tags, and if theres some way to create the layout from an excel spreadsheet.(IE importing an excel spreadsheet, and it creates a template with the vars in the spreadsheet) The latter is not as great an issue, as I can probably do some programming myself to fix it. Thanks!

self propelled motor powered boat single person lay on thingy pontoon.

I know that sounds weird, but I don't really know what to call it.  I found piece of Styrofoam that looks like it was from an old buoy.  I cut it in half, made it into a toy boat, then realized the it could hold a person laying down on it.  it is about 3 to 4 feet long and 20 inches wide in the pontoon shape.  Now my questions are, first, how to I keep the Styrofoam from shaving off?  Its the compact type, so the outside is fine, but where I cut it in half it is rubbing off.  Second, should I make it a hand crank, or should I try to get a prop and chainsaw motor on it, or find a trolling motor?  We live within five minutes walking distance from lake Michigan,  so I could probably use it a lot (if it worked).  Thanks!!!
