Hi! I previously won prizes on several contests here at Instructables and all of them were shipped to Hungary without any costs on my part, except the last one, I had to pay approx. 40 usd for a prize estimated at 75 usd. Did something change in Instructables' shipping policies?

Contest Prize Not Shipped?

Hi there! I received a runner up prize notification 16 days ago that I had won an Arduino MKR 1000 for placing runner-up in the Arduino Contest 2016. I claimed my prize, and haven't heard anything about shipping or any other kind of confirmation yet. The other prize I won for coming in 2nd place on another contest notified me and shipped very soon after I accepted. Can someone check to see if everything is ok? Attached is a screenshot of the winning prize message I was sent (and accepted). http://imgur.com/a/rKGoh Thanks, Esper2142 (Josh)

I wanted to enter the Clay Contest, but I saw that it's only open for US and Canada. Can I be eligible to win then?

Prize Shipment Delays

Hi everyone! If you have won a contest in the past month or will win a contest in the next month or so, there might be a slight delay in shipping your prizes out.  You might have noticed that we are hiring a shipping clerk, that's because we need one!  We are a little understaffed at the moment and we are shipping out for prizes as fast as we can, but unfortunately we are only human! Thanks for understanding!

Shipments from Instructables lacking...

A while back i was a co-first place winner of the Kit Design Challenge that ended on June 7th. It took over a month for the prize to ship. I got confirmation of the shipment form the Instructables Robot on July 17th. I found it odd that no tracking number for the shipment was included in the message. It has now been nearly a month later and i have not received the package yet. I also won a prize in the Spy Challenge around the same time frame. That prize pack shipped on July 11th and was receive about 2 weeks later. Once again the message confirming the package had been sent did not have a tracking number in it. I had to sign for that package so i know there was a tracking number available. There is more to that story but that's something i need to bring to Fedex's attention. So is there any way the confirmation messages can start including the tracking numbers for the shipments? Also is there any way i can get the tracking number for the missing package so i can look into what the problem is?  If the package was sent via Fedex (like the last one was) then i'm starting to have a serious issue with how Fedex runs things and will have to make a complaint to them. It shouldn't take over 4 weeks for even the cheapest shipping option to go from CA to MD. It can be trucked across the US in a weeks time. Any help anyone can give me on tracking this done, or letting me know who i need to talk to to help improve the way these things are handled, would be greatly appreciated.

#ibles ornament prize pack

Hello everyone, I just won a prize for the instructables ornament and I was filling the details form. Then, I read one statement which stated that if I live outside US then I will receive a coupon of the prize value. I am not a fan of money but a fan of Instructables. So, at last I want to say that I would like to get the instructables prize pack instead of a $10 coupon. If you will send the pack, it will remain with me forever but the movey will get spent Thanks

How would I build a Packing Peanuts Dispenser (ceiling mounted) for my home office (7' Ceiling)? Answered

I have looked all over the internet for a few days trying to find some DIY plans for building this and I haven't come across even one building plan for it. I know this is something a large number of people would love to find. I have a home business and I pack a ton of things at home for shipping. Commercial Packing Peanut (Loose Fill) Dispensers (Ceiling Mounted) are entirely too expensive for our small budget and I want to build my own. I have 7' ceilings and my packing station (table) is approx.  28.5" high. I would like the bottom of the dispenser opening (valve) to be approx. 20"-24" above the table so that I have some room to put boxes underneath it.  I would like the holding area (bag) to be able to hold between 10-15 cubic feet of packing peanuts so I don't mind if it takes up a lot of ceiling space. It wouldn't have to hang very far down from the ceiling as I can reach up that high to unhook/release it to refill it when I need to. The closer I could mount the top to the ceiling the better. I could either mount the dispenser to the ceiling from each corner of the bag or centrally mounted with a chain coming off each corner and meeting in the middle. It wouldn't matter to me either way. Here's a link to what I'm looking to build. http://a763.g.akamai.net/7/763/1644/4/app.infopia.com/img/image/fp/VPID/7237005/img4/img.jpg Of course, it needs to be not as deep as I have limited vertical space to work with. Anyone with any ideas with be greatly appreciated!

Ultimate Pirate Ship Bedroom

Pirate ship bedroom? Shiver me timbers! Designer Steve Kuhl used 2x12 ribs to construct the hull of the ship, covering them with layers of 1/2 inch plywood to act as the planking. "But that's not all. The room is also decked out with a rope bridge that connects the pirate ship to the top of a jail cell, and a rope suspended from the ship's hull provides drop-in access to the closet. There's also a completely hidden spiral slide, that lets you travel downstairs in a more adventurous way." Check out this pirate ship bedroom, there's 14 pictures that show the bedroom from all angles and even a computer model that illustrates the spiral slide. via: mymodernmet.com

Shipping Container Workshop To Kenya

Howdy, My friends and I are building a workshop out of a shipping container, and we want Makers' suggestions on equipment. We'll be sending a 20' shipping container from Austin, Texas to Bungoma, a city in Western Kenya. The primary goal will be constructing chambers in which we can create biochar ( http://www.re-char.com ), and we want to make the shop as versatile as possible. Thus far, we've definitively spent ~$8,000 of our $20,000 budget, mainly on a used plasmacam 4'x4' CNC with 2 plasma cutters, and allocated <20% of our space. Here's our list of some proposed equipment: https://spreadsheets.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AsejLtLc70nwdG5DeVJmOVA4OUxpcXl6alFaNzh5Unc&hl;=en_US What are we missing that we just shouldn't be without? We'll have access to (dirty) grid power, standard industrial building materials, and (slow, expensive) shipping from the West. Please add your ideas to the spreadsheet and your broader comments below. We'll read everything, incorporate the best suggestions, and let you know what our final inventory becomes. We need to have our container in transit by the end of the month, so don't delay! Thanks, Luke

Meat Ship Sets Sail

If you're planning on eating several pounds of sausage and bacon you might as well get some friends over and make a boat out of it, right? Viking Ship, Village or Helmet?

I've recently been allocated a project for school that needs to be done by the 28th February. The task is to either build a model viking ship, any size, any material or to build a viking outfit. Chances are, the entire out fit is impossible so I'm probably aloud to make a detailed helmet, with chain mail & leather cap underneath, or some other item of clothing. The last option is to build a model Viking town, it's aloud to be done on the computer as a 3d format, but I have no idea how to do this, any suggestions? I'm personally stuck on what to choose to make, or how to build it., what does every one else think? Remember, I'm going for a good mark here, but I also have the incapability to get things done amazingly quick. Cheers everyone, ~K (P.S. No horns for the helmet, although it's a popular myth it's supposedly not true in the history books.)

Similar to halo, but no re-entry... we all saw how reliable that was. - Holds 6 people (pilot, 5 auxillery) - supports 6 for up to 2.5 weeks. - Has a powerful SOS beacon. - Used by military and civilian. - Launch method: launched from ship by air rushing from the pod's chamber and conventional thrust (Fuel + oxidizer). All ships were designed and 3D- ified by me... google earth was used in the ibles HQ screenshot

Ship of Theseus - Philosophy of Identity

This past saturday there was a show on TV about the advancements in the field of prosthetics and human augmentation. I only watched less than half of it - but the timing was interesting. I came across an article about the Ship of Theseus (from Greek Legend) and have been reading quite a bit about "identity" and similar topics. This is philosophy - so there's really no right answer, but I have found it very interesting to think about and thought I'd share and see what others think. The gist of the story: Say we were to preserve Theseus' ship. As parts deteriorated and rotted away, we replace them with new (better/stronger) parts. Eventually, we replace each part with a new one. The question now is - Is it still the same ship? I'm willing to bet most of you will say yes.Now lets say that instead of replacing the ships components with new ones - we take all of the parts from the warehouse (where the parts are being stored) and reconstruct the ship from these new/better parts. Which ship has the "identity" of Theseus' ship? This is an interesting question because I'm again willing to bet that the "first" ship mentioned is your answer. But why? The parts would have gone to the "first" ship if not into the "second" ship. Why should this be different?Third Case:We take Theseus' ship and we tear it completely down in dry dock. In its place, we reconstruct using new parts. Is it still Theseus' ship? Now lets look at a digital device - my laptop for instance. Let us say that I have an "identical" machine (spec wise) and I cut and paste each file from this hard disk to the "new" machine. Does this "new" machine take the "identity" of the "old?" Can we say this "new" laptop (ship) is in fact Theseus' laptop? Talking with my colleagues - their answer (unanimously) was no - it is not the same.So here is where I get to the human side of things... Biological process have our bodies continuously replicating cells. In about a year, roughly 90% of the cells in your body will die. But no worries - they are continuously replaced with new ones. So, does that mean we are a different person compared to 12 months ago (I've read this question from several sources)? How about amputees? Today, prosthetic limbs can allow them to do what many of us choose not to do - run marathons. Are they any less of what they were before? <-- I know that sounds "wrong" - put put "political correctness" aside (but by no means am I putting down the situation of an amputee).Again, I'm willing to bet many will say yes - we're the same person. One argument is that our memories make our "identity." Fair enough. Now lets entertain the future. We now have the technology to save your memories digitally. We can digitize the human brain preserving its intelligence and thinking ability. Just entertain this idea for a few minutes. So if my brain (and its memories) are now digital and I copy it to another vessel. Is it still me? Do "I" still have the same identity? I'd like to think yes, but what was your answer about copying a laptop's memory (was it no - they are not the same)? Why should my digitized memories be any different than that of a laptop's digitized memory? At this point, my colleagues were floored. They figured out where I was going a few sentences before I said it. That's what makes the topic so interesting (in my opinion). If anyone has ever heard of HAL-5 - you already know what a feat it is. HAL-5 (yes, that's a play off of a space odyssey) is a human exoskeleton designed to assist those whom otherwise would be unable to walk for long periods of time. The user can lift heavy weights (80kg - say a dishwasher) among other helpful tasks. How does it know to move? Sensors on the skin detect electrical impulses in the brain that tell the muscle to react. Those signals are processed and turned into mechanical motion. All of this happens before the muscles have time to move. That is, the machine is moving before you even do.So if we replace our bodies and even our nervous system with mechanical devices - what makes us the same person? AND, are we the same person if we can simply copy ourselves to a new body?So last point - and it's not even my own. One of my colleagues brought this to the table today (literally at the lunch table) :P We were talking about the advancements and the potential/reality of human augmentation. Then he says something that makes complete sense to me. He said that we are at the point where our brain is evolving at a rate faster than our human bodies are. Just give yourself a minute to contemplate and wrap your head around the potential of that statement. To a degree - we have already done this (just not internally). Why else would we fly in a plane or drive a car? Well, I for one sure can't fly or run at 70+mph.1. I apologize for the length.2. I'm curious of your thoughts -- if you have another aspect of this, please do post.3. Remember there is no "correct" answer, this is just philosophy.4. There will always be more question than answers on this subject (at least I think so).HAL-5: http://www.engadget.com/2006/10/29/hal-5-robotic-suit-ready-for-mass-production/HAL-5 (mountain climb): http://www.engadget.com/2006/08/08/hal-robot-suit-almost-summits-with-quadriplegic-man-in-tow/

Nerdman's Ships: Round 2

Hello! It's been awhile since I was here (was working on other things), but I've finally gotten around to making screenshots and renders, along with a bunch of new sketches (3D). I apologize for the amount Short List: (In order) - Assault Destroyer - Barracuda Class Frigate - Knife's Edge (now with new features) - Barracuda Class Frigate - Sky Razor (Sister ship of the above) - Falcon Class Heavy Cruiser - Hieroglyph Class Multi-role Fighter - Manta Class Bomber - Dolphin Class Artillery Frigate ::WIP:: - Mark XII - Light Torpeto Link to better images- http://s1206.photobucket.com/albums/bb441/nerdman234/ Minor side note: Thank you ibles for having an multi-uploader.  This is much easier than the other site I post on. :D - Nerdman  ------------------------------------------------ Expanded List:: ------------------------------------------------ - Assault Destroyer - Armed With 7 Medium Rail Guns - Designed for both direct assault and defense of large vessels against smaller ships (Frigates, bombers, etc.) - Barracuda Class Frigate - Knife's Edge (now with new features) - Designed for both exo-atmosphere and in-atmosphere operations - Armed with 4 light torpedo tubes, 3 triple AA turrets, and 2 solid mounted railguns in the nose - Barracuda Class Frigate - Sky Razor (Sister ship of the above) - Designed more as a heavy fighter than a support frigate, this can both keep up with standard fighters but even out maneuver them due to it's massive engines - Armed with 2 triple AA turrets, 6 light torpedo tubes, 2 solid mounted and 2 partially mobile railguns in the nose - Falcon Class Heavy Cruiser - Designed as fast attack ship, the falcon can reach incredible speeds while still being able to turn very sharply - The falcon is primarily armed with 512 packs of multi purpose launcher tubes, it can hold up to almost a thousand missiles or nearly 6,200 un-guided rockets. - Hieroglyph Class Multi-role Fighter - Carries two multipurpose modules (similar to the Heron) which hold quite literally anything that fits inside the power, weight, and computing restrictions. - Designed using spare Heron frames which were useless due to constant space combat. - Armed with a triple AA turret (rear), all other weapons/ offensive abilities come from the pods. - Manta Class Bomber - The Manta Class Bomber, created about the same time as the Hieroglyph, was made from XUAP hulls which were useless in space and were unused because of it. - Armed with 6 light torpedo (single use tubes), 3 triple AA turrets, and a minor ECM package, this bomber can hold it's own against even heavy fighters. - Dolphin Class Artillery Frigate ::WIP:: - The Dolphin Class of frigate was created when the fail "General Frigate" was unable to meet expectations. - Armed with 2 heavy plasma cannons capable of shots up to 400km away. - The Dolphin is also nimble enough to avoid long range missiles, but is unable to enter atmosphere and is unable to avoid fighters. - Mark XII - Light Torpeto - The Mark XII was created strictly for bombers, but soon showed extreme success in both heavier fighters, and light frigates. Being powerful for it's size, it was also reasonably light and nearly as maneuverable as some missiles.

German container ship MS Beluga SkySails has set sail for Venezuela from Germany, towed in part by 160 square metres of parafoil. The kite is flown at an altitude of around 200m (depending on exact wind conditions), and is expected to save nearly $1600 in fuel costs every day.The kite is computer-controlled, flying in a constant figure-eight to maintain traction. If this trial is successful, kites of up to 5000m2 are planned for future trips.BBC StorySkySails site
