Ok, I had an idea where There would be this gun. The sights are hidden in the top of the gun, but can be exposed by removing a rod from the assembly. The sights would go on top of the barrel, would be powered by springs, and have a stop. The gun would look like it had no sights, but the sights would pop up when you removed a bolt is the idea. Unfortunately, to make such a gun, It would require a lot of parts, and the gun would be very big, but I'm just throwing the idea out there.......

I really liked the red dot sight from CoD MW and MW2, so I thought that it may be possible to make one in real life. If you got some thin acrylic, only ~4mm thick (the clear colourless plastic kind) and a small laser pen inside the gun, you could have the laser shine up to a small point upon the acrylic. Or, you could adapt on this and have a very small laser unit on the base of the RDS (where it would clip onto the rails) hidden of course, and have it shine on to the acrylic. The one thing that I hate about the RDS is that you only have one bearing point. I don't see how it would aid you in any way, because one dot isn't enough to aim with. You would have to line it up with some other sight. Something which could work is an ACOG (advanced combat optical gunsight) where on each of the lenses is a bearing point which you could line up.

I don't have bendy rods, but I want you guys to tell me what your favorites are and ones you've made. I don't mean green rods, or black Y connectors, I mean like things that required some thinking to make. No, I don't want a scope. A simple but effective, possibly even adjustable sight.

So which do you prefer... which do you think would be more popular... This should have really been a poll... but oh well. I meant in terms of looks... because knex guns are so inacurate that it barely makes a difference...

Often an instructable or a comment is enough interesting to deserve our attention during certain time. In this case, a "keep in sight" button could be very useful, to receive an email for any newness with it. Example: recently wilgubeast published an "featured author" about me. I must enter to look it each day to see and answer all new comments. This is not the only case, other topics or discussions have that need for me, too.

I recently started a project to make a takedown bow , and was looking at different Ideas to make my own sights for it. I saw that people had made Reflex Sights for Airsoft Guns and Nerf toys, but I was wondering if these would actually work for a shotgun or Rifle. I didn't see any instructables for them specifically. If anyone has any experience using these on a rimfire cartridge gun I would love to hear about it.

I found a member recently named asshole_1234. I am not sure if this is acceptable on a websight that many children look at and are a part of. I discovered instructables in third grade. I just thought that I should bring this to somebodys attention. Is this not ok, or am I insane?

I went to my local air show in Cleveland and I actually saw a shark like figure floating around in the sky it almost looked like a flying fish but backward. It looked as tho it was actually flapping a tail around to fly. After it was way off in the distance I took some pictures of it that hardly compare to the first ones as tho it actually morphed into a more bird like object I was wondering if any one had any opinions on these bazar photos I and my brother took. I will admit im the type to believe in these objects being from other planets, I have seen Videos on Youtube stolen from nasa that resemble this "Thing" quite closely.

From SpaceWeather.com:SOLAR ECLIPSE: On Monday, Jan. 26th, the Moon will pass in front of the sun producing an annular "ring of fire" eclipse. This is not a total eclipse; the Moon will cover only 93% of the sun's surface. Nevertheless, the Moon's dead-center transit across the solar disk will produce a sight of rare beauty for observers along the "path of annularity." Best views are to be had from islands in Indonesia where the ring of fire will appear to sink into the ocean at sunset. Meanwhile, in Australia, southeast Asia, southern parts of India and South Africa, observers will experience an off-center partial eclipse. Crescent-shaped sunbeams will dapple the ground while high overhead the Moon takes a curved bite out of the sun. Please visit http://spaceweather.com for eclipse maps, timetables and photos. If you're in the areas where the eclipse can be seen, how about taking and posting pictures?Animated map of eclipsePDF map of eclipse

Alot of K'NEX guns use "sights" to improve accuracy. Thing is, they never work because the gun is usually weak and not accurate. are they mostly for decoration or do they have a purpose?

I've been doing some reading recently on how the mind can adapt and change it's perception of reality to accommodate new sensory inputs - like the glasses for the blind that turn visual data into sound patterns and the compass belt that helped give people an innate sense of direction. My idea was to take a series of small webcams and arrange them on a headband so that they cover a 360 degree panorama around the wearer, then join all the images together and feed it to a set of video goggles. Initially I imagine it would be very disorientating, but hopefully after a while the wearer's mind would start to compensate for the distortion, giving them panoramic vision. I assume the various feeds from the webcams would have to be routed through a computer to process them into a single image, but I'm not sure how that could be done on a software level. Thoughts? Ideas? Help? Warnings? All appreciated. Thanks once again.

I'm starting to hate gravity... I think every geek goes through that phase at least once in their life. Anywho, I just modded my Nerf Hyper Sight Lock 'n' Load gun to fire airsoft pellets, but is there a way to prevent pellets from rolling right out the barrel when the barrel is less than parallel to the ground? Any help is greatly appreciated.

This instructable is for a knex sight. However, the exact same sight to the last knex piece was used on my gun a couple of months before. This person has said he created it, not given me credit, and the annoying thing is that i think he left the site. Has anyone got advice or views on this?

I have a project I'm working on, the purpose of which is to create a kind of synthetic synesthesia by taking the information about different people normally interpreted by one sensory system, and transform the way in which the information is presented, such that it is being interpreted through a different sensory system. The most important thing to me is that there is some kind of legitimate scientific basis for the way in which the information is gathered and then reinterpreted. So, for instance, one iteration of this project that I've done was, using litmus papers, I determined the pH of various people's saliva. I then took photos of each individual and also scanned each strip of litmus paper; I then color tinted each photo with the color from their litmus strip, and thus, one could "see" what that person tasted like. What I'm looking for are ideas for sensory data collection. Or, really, even just data collection in general. I'm an artist by trade, and an amateur scientist by interest and inclination, so figuring out ways in which to reinterpret the data isn't something that I need as much help with. Particularly, I'm really stumped when it comes to measuring anything having to do with smell, and in specific, how to measure a given person's ability to detect smells (for instance, quantifying the extent of someone's hyperosmia). I know olfactometers and electronic noses exist, but have no idea as to how they work or how to get my hands on one w/ an art student budget. ;P I got the idea to ask around here for suggestions after stumbling across this instructable for measuring muscle sounds. Thanks for any help or advice you might be able to provide, and I hope you have a very lovely day! =D

This is a gun prototype, meaning it is not quite done yet, that fires yellow rods. It is named after the CAR-15/XM-177 assault rifle from Colt, however it IS NOT full-auto, meaning you have to cock it each time to fire. You can cock it by pulling the "bolt" back as seen in pictures 3 and 4, 3 bieng in the cocking position and 4 being in the cocked position. Picture 1 is of the chamber with one shot in it, and picture 2 is of the butt of the gun. Picture 5 and 6 are of the sights, 5 is the first sight and 6 are the rear sights. So tell me, should I post it? UPDATE: 4/28/07 I added two more pics. Picture 7 is a view through the sights, picture 8 is of a bi-pod I designed specificaly for this gun.

Hey guys, I am trying to find a method of creating a hidden proximity sensor that would work similarly to a laser i.e. if the line of sight is broken then an output can be achieved, but without actually using lasers. There are a few problems, the sensor will be in a dark space and will have some smoke blown through the line of sight (lasers would be seen). I want the sensors to be hidden, so they will have to be mounted out of sight, but as they will be used in a relatively open space, i imagine this will mean on the ceiling. This will mean that they will have to detect all the way to the floor, so the range will probably have to be at least 8 feet. Does anybody have any ideas? i'd really appreciate any input. Neal

I am very much a beginner in archery. I was handed down a bow from a hunter who hasnt used it in 15 years. It was brought to a shop and adjusted to my size and a weight. I am trying to figure out how to use it effectivly and accurately. I do know that when you put the arrow on, it should be odd fin sticking away from the string. However, i am not sure if i should be putting the arrow above or below the small bead on the string. I use a peep sight and am trying to figure out how to sight in my pins the correct way. ANY AND ALL information and tips (especially answering the questions above) would be appreciated! The main questions are do i put the knock of the arrow above the bead or below it and the other question is how do sight in my sights. The top pin is 15 yards and it is high 10 inches and left by like 2 feet for some reason when i try. Thank you!

Nothing new but looks cool(real) This was inspired by the Buzzard Gun made by The Drum Hero(Jamie sorry for mispell) But i have taken off several parts to make it more accurate and a smoother look. I have built this over and over to find the best way this can look and fire and this way seems to be the best. Also my sight i hsve made, which is the best sight i have seen.

In this peashooter competition in the UK, some entrants have modified their basic tubes with some high-tech parts. This one uses a laser sight and a gyroscope to help aim. All of this is fine with the organizers who have allowed laser sights for a decade.Even so, the winner this year was someone with a regular peashooter so it still is quite a bit about skill. Pea shooters fight it out for world championships via BoingBoing

What are the best circumstances or best time to get the laser treatment for eye sight surgery? I know i should talk to an eye surgeon for this, but before going to him may be its a good idea to talk to people here who have a prior experience and have themselves undergone the procedure. Also it would be great if someone can suggest me some reasonable costs for laser eye treatment. thanks.
