A friend of my friend Rhett just launched Thinking Putty, which is ferromagnetic silly putty. You might recognize the site, Crazy Aaron's Puttyworld, as they had some ads on Instructables last Christmas season (for full disclosure, at the time I didn't realize I was only one degree of separation from the advertiser, and now I'm posting this because I think it's cool, not because of an advertising relationship). According to Rhett, this new grey stuff feels exactly the same as regular silly putty, and it is pretty strongly ferromagnetic, as you can see from the videos. Aaron apparently has a ridiculous amount of putty related chemicals in his basement, and it took him a few years to figure this out.

Every once in a while, I'll get a comment that makes my brain lock up on an Instructable or an Answer that I've posted. When I tell RavingWife about some of these, she accuses me of making them up, or at least embellishing for effect. This leads me to believe that others might find these amusing, and may also have funny comments of their own to contribute. In the spirit of fun, I hereby institute the Facepalm Award - to be given for comments posted on this site which unintentionally make us laugh, or at least stare in stunned disbelief. I'll kick it off with a couple of nominees of my own: 1) On a question asking for cheat codes for a video game, I answered: Wouldn't it be cool if there were a site out there dedicated to cheats and walkthroughs of video games? That would be AWESOME!!! The Nominee: TheOriginalPoster (author) says: hahaha very funny but i do not have that kind of time Sure, because you're too busy doing important stuff like playing video games..... I don't know if I find this amusing because of the serious time management issues indicated by the response, or because the OP gave my snarky comment a Best Answer..... 2) This one has been flagged and deleted, so I'll have to paraphrase. It was a response on a thread which had absolutely nothing to do with sexuality, dating, relationships or anything in that vein. No double entendres, no sly puns, no wink-wink, nudge-nudge of any kind. My post on that thread was totally innocuous as well. The Nominee: HI I JUST SIGNED UP FOR THIS A LITTLE WHILE AGO IVE BEEN LOOKING AROUND- PRETTY COOL STUFF. ARE YOU BISEXUAL????? Uhhhh... what? So, do you have any nominees of your own? Post 'em so we can all have a chuckle. Nominees will not be officially judged by anyone. No points will be tallied, no winner will be selected, and any hypothetical winner which might have been selected would not have received any kind of prize anyway.

Is the prefix phrase 'How To Make...' superfluous when creating an instructable? Which is better?: "How to make Fruity Oaty Bars" or just "Fruity Oaty Bars"

I like the idea of instructables but making an open invitation to form your own group has resulted in multiple groups concerned with weapons/Bombs/Pyromainia/Dissrupting school etc. Why?? i know i dont need to read them but they get in the way of good ideas that may be useful. i addition maybe 30% are just empty groups. Time for a Cull??

Confess! You have been guilty of a faux pas at some point in your life. My "dope!" moment was when I responded one night to a work order to the campus police station. I went to the officer's lockers and saw what looked like a small cologne bottle. The bottle was painted black and had no label. I sprayed the contents directly on my face thinking that I was going to smell good. I did not know that it was mace and, that I just sprayed it in my face. I was incapacitated for a few minutes. I was found by my coworkers, blinded and disoriented, trying to find my way around! I was the butt of a joke for quite a while. Well, when you too stop laughing, you may start confessing.

I need suggestions for letter endings that are appropriate to the tech/programming/hacker world for emails. Something like "Peace and Prototypes" but much less cheesy. Also, do these things have a name other than letter endings?

Here's a cool new use for the Wii. Instead of holding the Wii remote in his hands, Johnny Lee, a PhD student at Carnegie Mellon, puts the Wii remote on the TV and puts a couple of IR LEDs on a pair of goggles, reversing the usual setup. This way the TV knows where he is and can adjust the image on the screen for a nice 3D effect. He explains the setup and starts the comparison of normal vs. his Wii VR at 2:30.via Neatorama

Hello, may be an silly question, but how the heck do you vote on the contests? I don't see a box that you can check or anything, or a summary page where you can make a selection. Is giving the instructible author 5 stars classed as a vote for the contest? I would like to vote for my faves, but cant figure out how? Hopefully it's not painfully painfully obvious or I will feel silly... :) Thanks!

Greetings! Where I use to live my local paper posted some funny stories or or sayings titled "Laugh a Little" hence the name. I decide to post some of them to see what you think. None of these are ones that I made up, they're all from the paper. If you want me to post more I will. I have lots of them. Enjoy. Questions that haunt me! Can you cry underwater? How important does a person have to be before they are considered assassinated instead of just murdered? Why does a round pizza come in a square box? What disease did cured ham actually have? How is it that we put man on the moon before we figured out how to put wheels on luggage? Why is it that people say they 'slept like a baby' when babies wake up every to hours? If a death person has to go to court, is it still called a hearing? Why do people pay to go up in tall buildings and pay to look through binoculars at things on the ground? If the professor on Gilligan's Island can make a coconut radio, why can't he fix a hole in a boat? If corn oil is made from corn, and vegetable oil is made from vegetables, what is baby oil made from? Church Bloopers The fasting and prayer conference includes meals. The sermon this morning 'Jesus walks on water.' The sermon tonight: 'Searching for Jesus.' Ladies, don't forget the rummage sale. It's a chance to get rid of those things not worth keeping around the house. Bring your husband. Don't let worry kill you off - let the church help. Remember in prayer the many who are sick of our community. A bean supper will be held on Tuesday evening in the church hall. Music will follow.

What the topic says. I know that it may seem silly to some people but really though, I don't know what they do. It would be cool for someone to give me one, but it would just be fine for someone to tell me what they do. Maybe also about how to make one too.

One thing I like a lot when reading Instructables is how creators give a personal spin to their project descriptions and the instructions on how te make something. Sometimes there is even a small laugh on my face when somewhere hidden in step 9, picture 2 there is a funny joke. I can't help it that I include some silly dad jokes myself in my projects. The idea of this topic is to create a collection that make you smile. A quest for the hidden (dad)jokes in projects. Which ones are your favorites? Since most dad jokes only work in context I suggest you only post the link to the Instructable and how hard you laughed about it. Not the joke itself out of context. Then we can all go hunting for that silly joke.

Is there an easy way to get it back, or do I have to try to recreate it from scratch? Thanks!

I need the public's opinion on something. Would you rather: 1. Cut up some white rods for a magazine so a gun looks better. 2. Save your pieces, which makes the gun look a bit silly without the magazine inserted. The gun in question is quite large, so it would also save valuable pieces on option 2.
