Hi! I have no idea whether this is the right place to post this topic, but it does say 'burning questions' and that's what this is, so here goes. :-) I've had this idea for a kind of pinhole lense slide projector. The (very basic) diagram is pretty self explanatory, and I was wondering if anyone's tried/heard of anything like this, and whether it could work? Do you think a 100 LED torch would be bright enough? Also, if I'm right in thinking that LEDs don't get hot, there shouldn't be a risk of overheating/fire should there? Thanks! Looking forward to hearing what you think! :-)

Hi, I ve been looking all over (www), and I can't find any useful tips, tuts, ... about modding an existing sliding door into an automated one. This without ordering a ready-made system, which costs many $$$$. I 've had this idea for a while already, and I admit seeing https://www.instructables.com/id/Air-Powered-Star-Trek-Style-Door/ brought the brain to bubble again.. If anyone has some experience with this or can share some interesting links ? (re-use an old engine from something..., controls.., touchpad/sensor, ...) would be great. thx D

Hey Guys I'm graduating high school in two weeks and my friend and I were talking about something to do the day after finals. I brought up doing a Slip n Slide down a nearby sledding hill. I found a site that has some basic information on the hill. It's 200-300 feet long and has a 60 degree slope. Yeah pretty steep haha. So here's what I need to know: What is a good material for this slide that will hold together but is still relatively cheap? Tarps were the original idea but I was told menards may have large rolls of plastic you can roll down a hill. What is the best combination to get the slide slippery? We dont have access to water so we'll be bringing just enough in garbage cans to wet it down. So what kind of soap or lubricant is best for the slide? It would help if it didn't burn afterwards! Thanks for the help in advance. Picture of the hill in winter 3.bp.blogspot.com/_ymkfNB3shbw/R1sBuKwdScI/AAAAAAAAAUU/JD8auciBxMM/s400/sled22.jpg

I need help for a project I am soon to begin work on ('ible coming soon). It will involve several switches and potentiometers mounted on a piece of hardboard. The switches and rotary potentiometers I have all have washers (or whatever you call the hexagonal things with screw-like threads on the inside) to secure them in place. The slide potentiometers don't. My question is this: How would I mount the slide potentiometers? Thanks in advance, ~H4ZZ

I was told to post this in the forums, so here it is. I was wandering around this site and found a man that had created a pistol that uses a slide to move the firing pin instead of grabbing it directly. I made his gun and improved upon it. I turned his simple pistol into a rifle/SMG There are of course some problems: cannot handle rapid fire for extended periods of time single shot doesn't shoot far but cannot handle additional rubber bands. It's pretty cool though. Right now i'm trying to increase the range and make it more durable. But i can't think of how i can improve it anymore.

I have built a knex pistol with a slide on top which also has a handle mag!! it's magazine holds white rods but it can fire any ammo. sorry the pics are dark but i couldnt use flash because my battery was so low the camera was only on for about 2 seconds. 1. Old version. 2&3. New model-with new trigger. 4. View from beneath the gun. 5. View from the rear. 6. Close up at the front of the barrel and slide. 7. The gun with the slide removed. 8. The underneath of the slide. 9. The gun with the slide removed. 10. The top of the slide. 11. Gun without the slide from the rear. 12. Back of the slide when it is removed.

OK all you DIYers and photographers, I need some idea to help out a friend. We need a method/device to preview and sort photo slides. Device must be: 1. Easy to use. 2. Fast to use 3. Create a large image of the slide. ( older person with weaker eyes) 4. Inexpensive. once slides are sorted, they will be burned to CD and the device will no longer be needed. 5. Preferable not require a computer or scanner.

I already have a longboard, but I'm making one this summer... (new instructable.. stay tuned!) I'm now making a pair of longboard sliding gloves for palm-down slides... what is the best material for the palm disk.. ABS, teflon, PVC? ( The thing in the back of the gloves is my homemade flattened ABS pipe.)

Hi, first time posting, and I would like some basic advice on a problem i am encountering with a project.I am attempting to convert an old slide projector (single slide variety) into a video projector. Light output will be fine once I get a higher wattage bulb, and temperature is not a real issue. The problem i have is that, i need a display (around 2x2 inch) and I am not sure where to get one that you could hook up to an external input. I have, however, found a few old cell phone screens. Does anyone think that this would work, and if you know of any, could you please post some helpful web sites on how to wire these displays. Also, if you know of any ready-made displays that would be suitable to tear apart and use, that would be useful.much appreciated, thanks.

Hi All, For three years now I have been driving in and out of this gate, and each time I do I rack my brain to come up with a clever way to power it. It would be great to have it open without getting out of the car. It's pretty heavy and I have to lean on it to get it moving, but then it rolls along its track nicely. In my work I have access to water pumps, pressure tanks and plumbing fittings, so I have been leaning toward powering it hydraulically. I don't know if this would be possible using town water pressure - if at all. If anyone has any clever ideas or suggestions I would love to hear them. Cheers, cammers.

Ok, I made a slide show and I published it. The problem is, the only way you can view it is if you go to my page and click on the picture. You can't just search it in the box and it'll come up on one of the pages. Example: You make a slide show called "Iron man haloween costume." If you search it in the box in the top right corner of the screen. It wont come up in the "search results." The only way you can view it is if you go to the authors account page and click on the image/link to it. End of example. Now how do you make it able to view if you search it in the box. Is it the license has to be a certain type or what do you have to do. Please help and reply with an answer. Many thanks, Chill88

Hello all, I was browsing, but not limited by, the food instructables and saw that all the measurements were in non-metric values. How would it be if European members can convert cups for milliliters, for example. It would certainly not be difficult to do, but takes some time to get it all working. I know the theory of jQuery but never tried it, so thats why Im saying it. It would help so incredibly much/.

"One of the most interesting mysteries of Death Valley National Park is the sliding rocks at Racetrack Playa (a playa is a dry lake bed). These rocks can be found on the floor of the playa with long trails behind them. Somehow these rocks slide across the playa, cutting a furrow in the sediment as they move. Any idea on how I can make a track to attach to a wall to have a cork board that is able to be slid up and down over a dry erase board. It would need to "lock" in order to keep it in place when slid up but then easily able to be unlocked to slide down when access to it is needed. I imagine the tracks would be something like the ones that slide drawers on Ikea desks etc... sort of like this but perhaps vertically. http://www.whiteboardsetc.com/Horizontal_Sliders.htm Horizontal ideas would help as well as a second option Thoughts?

Passing this question along for a friend: i have been experimenting with wet-slide decals, to do complex graphics, but can't figure out how to make them work. They are essentially a piece of thin plastic on paper backing. You print on them, using a printer, then immerse them in water to get the paper backing to come off. Then, you slide the decals onto whatever surface you have. finally, you use a softening agent, to get them to meld onto the surface without edges. i have spent 10+ hours, trying to make a 3"x2" decal. No dice. And none of the guides online have worked for me. I have a couple of problems: 1. can't get decal to not lose its proportions—i.e., stretches when i seat it 2. can't get print not to bleed (ink-jet version) or flake (laser version)—even when i use a fixative Also, if i try to cut decal to just dimensions of surface i am applying to, the edges tend to curl up and refuse to flatten out—without further causing 1 and 2 above.

Every year that I attend Maker Faire in San Mateo, I am more and more impressed at the caliber of talent in this community of makers. I am so grateful to be immersed in so much creativity and excellence. This year was certainly no exception. I had the opportunity to talk with many of the exhibiting Makers and am excited to see how the Maker Movement continues to grow as technology becomes more accessible, and innovation happens faster. Here is a small sampling of the photos I took at this year's Faire - It starts at the Instructables booth and Skee-Ball machines, and tours the rest of the faire! Enjoy!

Hello, I need a replacement Alpha B10K slider pot, 60mm travel, has 2 separate pots in the package. The one I have which I think is bad has 8 pins, 4 on each end. So far all the replacements I have found on the web have at most 6 pins, 1 less pin per pot. 1 of the extra 2 pins on my pot are being used in the circuit (a USB music player). Can I adapt the 6-pin pots to work in my device, or can someone direct me to where I can find a B10K with 8 pins? Any help appreciated. Thanks

ok, so i'm not a musician by any stretch of the imagination. but i do like to make things out of wood and what nots. so i've decided to make my brother, who plays guitar, a slide guitar for christmas (mostly because of the posts here that show people making them). i went out and bought a $50 pawn store electric guitar (serious pile of crap but all the electronics work) and i've disassembled it. i've got a rough idea of how i'm going to build this thing as far as shape and actual construction of the box etc.. (sort of going for the pool cue box method), it'll basically be a long rectangle with a hinged lid. i've got a basic idea for how i'm going to hold the strings (i'm thinking this is called the nut? or something? dunno, the looped end of the strings) but i'm having a hard time coming up with a way to make it tuneable. i've still got the machine heads from the guitar and i'd like to use those, but i'd ultimately like for this thing to be a 6 string (if he wants to make a 6 string into a 3 or 1 string he just has to pull strings off, but if i make it as a 3 string he can't use it as a 6) and i'd like everything to be contained inside. i can't for the life of me figure out how to mount the machine heads in such a way where the turning handles would be able to still be inside of the box and still be usable. i've thought about maybe zither pins/pegs/whatever the hell they're called, but i've got no idea if those would work. also, i know a lot of the 2x4 slides use a beer bottle under the strings behind the pickups, now that looks neat but does it actually have a function? any help is appreciated

So I recently fell in love with the SRunion slide designs (http://srugbb.wix.com/showroom#!SR-18 PISTOL/zoom/c175r/i0py9) But obviously I don't wan't to buy something I can do myself and custom fit to my own gun. But that is the thing, how would I go about designing a slide to fit on my gun (ls m9 by black viper) The current slide is plastic but transparent so it is difficult to patch it together in 123d design. I don't have any software that you have to pay for, and I have access to a 3d printer... How would I go about doing it please? Thanks

Hello, I was watching a video where someone was using a mailing tube a hedgehog slide. I wanted to do the same with our heggie as he loves to burrow and will dive off any ledge he can find if we don't watch him. I think the one she used was 3in, but our heggie needs a 4in round and since here is a bit rounder; it needs to be about 3-4ft as well, though we could cut it down. I would like to find an alternative that is clear or semi-clear as it would be nice to be able to see him in the tube as he slides. It also needs to be fairly inexpensive. For anyone interested, our heggies name happens to be Burrow as well. Maybe a fairy whispered it my ear because we choose the name when he was no larger than a large spiky button and it was 6 weeks before we could bring him home. He has wobbly hedgehog syndrome and we really want him to have some fun. Thanks for any help, Liocorno
