I have a Remington 870 20-gauge with the factory barrel and choke installed. So far it has been shooting birdshot just fine, my question is, is a different barrel needed for buckshot? I know a different one is needed for slugs, but is the same true for buckshot?

I posted this instructable 3 days ago and so far I haven't had a single view! I'm wondering if there is a technical issue of some sort. Here's the link: https://www.instructables.com/id/Installing-and-testing-an-electric-slug-fence-on-a/ Please let me know if you have any idea of what could be going on. Thanks nlinventor

In a physics demo, my teacher used a small coilgun, but it used low voltage AC, not a single high voltage burst, also it used an aluminum ring on the outside of the coil instead of a slug on inside of it. Apparently the AC creates a changing magnetic field, which induces current in the ring giving it a magnetic field as well...

I threw some hay off my lawn and some green weecds into a garbage can, some sugar and yeast and formented it to slug beer but the slugs did not like it. It then fermented further to vinegar, and a crust of green "Mold?" covered it. seems to have protected the vinegar from further fermentation. I tried a second bigger batch ( morning glory weeds) with less sugar but after a few days of good fermenting it went rotten and stinky. So there are probably thresholds for sugar content. Would the yeast be a way of adding fertilizer to organic gardens? Yeast can (I think) convert urea and nitrate to protein. Perhaps some green stuff has enough sugar to work without sugar addition. vine prunings? maybe. The first batch, i put bleach in to kill off microbes before I added water and yeast. Perhaps hydrated lime would work instead of bleach and also get the ph good for yeast fermentation. This might be a cheap way of liming your garden. (Here in victoria, hydrated type s lime is cheaper than limestone for garden addition. (But it contains more calcium!) The "yeast tea" or vinegar tea could be used on the garden and the weeds could then be transfered to normal compost or used as mulch. It might be an alternative way of using diseased materials of composting seedy weeds to kill the seeds. Brian

Ever wanted to share your instructable with someone offline? Its hard to remember those random ID's at the end of the URL, isn't it?HAVE NO FEAR, I AM HERE!(Note, you can be afraid of me, if you'd like)Anyway, on to the point.Biobattery!Look at the URL! Its all nice-looking! And what do you know, I added the Allsteps link in for you!You probably want this for yourself, dontcha? Don't worry! Just type this in the URL of your favorite browser!http://instructables.thruhere.net/id/add/name/YOUR_DESIRED_SLUG/id/INSTRUCTABLE_IDThe "slug" is the thing that goes on the end of the URL, in the above case, it was "biobattery". It can be numbers or letters, but it is case-sensitive!The instructable ID should be JUST that random string. No slashes, no ?ALLSTEPS, just the random letters/numbers.Please, please don't abuse this, please. If I find that someones been taking up multiple slugs for an instructable, or not linking to an instructable, you're going to be sorry ;-)All of you who say I should being doing something else, this was done in less than fifteen lines of python! Thats why theres no nice page to create those links, because I'd have to spend 10 minutes making it. I actually spent more time on this post than getting it to work! And if anyone wants to donate a nicer domain, just ping the above domain to get my IP, and let us know ;-)PS: If you hate "instructables.thruhere.net", you can use "ytm.ath.cx", if you can remember it! Its pointed at the same server.

Dannys m4 carbineHI. I was inspired by dannys M4 carbine, but i was let down to hear it didnt work. So i did what i did on my knex sniper(wich wont be posted) I added a barrel and a track to the fireing pin. I'm suprised in what ive come up with. I have a removeable clip, a front hanle attachment, slug attachment that fires batteries, remember i made it after these pics.(for those who dont know what a sulg is look it up on wikipediea.com)Also i have a detachable stock(its the one from my sniper) and it has a bullpup desine. I based this off of dannys as best a i could. its not done yet because i need a trigger, but that is being looked apon. thx to danny. Should i post???

I'd like to make a change sorter/counter that I can use with my PC to figure out how much money I have in some 5 gallon buckets of change that we gathered while cleaning some old fountains. (Yes, they said we could have what we found under all the gunk as long as we got the fountains clean and back to working order.) I want to be able to dump some coins in a sorter/counter and have my PC tell me how much there is in a given bucket of change. I don;t want to use estimating techniques like calculating the approximate number of coins of a given type by average known weight of the coins. I want an actual tally - a count - of all coins of each type and unknown coins (slugs). Any ideas?

This is a cross between a HK G3 and a Colt M16. It doesn't have a magazine right now because I am too lazy. It is ,however, a sear system gun, so it has a "true" trigger. I haven't tested ranges yet, though it seems pretty powerful with blue rods. Hope you enjoy! ==UPDATE== 8/18/07 Sorry for those who liked the foregrip, it is gone...... REPLACED BY A GRENADE LAUNCHER!!!!!!!! Inspired by Loosewire's disc magazine, it can fire a shotgun round of about 10 blue spacers, or a slug round of a disc. The GL has a vertical grip, gut the gun will also have a horizontal foregrip as well. The GL works like a catapult, where the ram is pulled back and cocked, and instead of hitting or pushing the round out, the round is launched from the shear force of the ram suddenly launched, like when the light suddenly turns red and you slam the breaks on your car. ==UPDATE== 8/19/07 The GL is out of the prototyping stage. Now it has a trigger, located under the normal trigger.Danke,You

I'm trying to make a dc-dc converter with the following characteristics: Output = 5V regulated at up to 30mA = 150mW Input 1V (or lower) from a slightly flat AAA. Assuming a pessimistic circuit efficiency of 50%, then the input current would need to be 150mW / 0.5 / 1v = 300mA which I think a AAA is capable of supplying. I'm using a variation of "led torch circuit 2" from http://www.talkingelectronics.com/projects/LEDTorchCircuits/LEDTorchCircuits-P1.html, but I've replaced with the 1n4148 with a schottky diode and replaced the 2 LEDs and 29R resistor with a 5k6 and 1k resistor respectively; this should limit the output of the circuit to just under 5v. I have a 150R resistor to provide a 30mA load to the circuit. When the input is 2.4V, the output is 4.62V which is close enough to 5v for me. But if I decrease the input voltage to 1.14V, then the output voltage falls to 2.7V which is not enough. I have tried half a dozen hand wound transformers with various turns ratios, wire thicknesses and shapes (slug and toroid) but am unable to achieve 5v out (at 30mA) from 1v in. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what to adjust, or perhaps a better circuit?

First of all let me just say that i find killerks magnum, yes killerk's, a pretty good gun.Its design is very good so good that it can be modified in several different ways ways. After a few tweaks to the trigger mechinism i was able to apply a strong rubberband, so it could finally reach about 38-45 ft and hit hard with one shot. But i also discovered a shotgun effect when put three bullets in.I know the picture isn't good and its not mine but my computer isn't letting me upload mine.try to follow my explanation. You put the bullet in the main barrel(orange connecter) then above and below there are two empty slots where the ram also hits, jam(not really jam just put in) 2 more bullets above and below, so when shot three come out!SORRY FOR CRAPPY EXPLANATION BUT ITS NOT LETTING ME CREATE NOTES!Technically shotguns arn't susposed to go very far so when you put 3 'slugs' it only reachs 15 feet but hurts really hard. really HARD.If you already know this feature then don't blame me , its something that hasn't been shared.BTW its also cooler when held sideways so the shot comes in a split effect.IT REALLY HURT WHEN SHOT WITH THIS MODE!IT REALLY HURT WHEN SHOT WITH THIS MODE!IT REALLY HURT WHEN SHOT WITH THIS MODE!IT REALLY HURT WHEN SHOT WITH THIS MODE!

The problem is that almost no one has enough room inside to shoot a knex gun unless it's a total peice of ....you get the point. But, by going outside there are many other vaiables that effect how far a gun can shoot (eg. Wind direction/ speed, trees and other obstruction, etc.) Also power as in "can shoot through can" or "through 3 sheets of hard cardboard" can also be misconstrude in the way that range from the can is a main factor, point blank range is not always the most powerful range, often 1-3 inches away has exponentially higher power. What needs to happen is a tool be built (out of K'nex, what else?) that is not only easy to use but impossible to mess up, it should be able to give 100% accurate reading for all types of guns from the weakest to the most powerful. Also in terms of different types of ammo, rod size shouldn't matter( thats what she said) the only thing that should matter in terms of ammo is whether it is deer slug, rod, sligshot/ catapult rod(a rod with something the can grab the elastic), or other and specify what that is.Range is all to often streched beyond reality by saying it can shoot 200 yards, when really it might be able to shoot 50 yards tops when pointed strait but 200 yards if it is pointed strait at the sky. We need to bulid a target that you shoot from maybe 5 feet away and something mesures force, be it cardboard, or cans, or plywood, maybe even something that leaves a dent in it and you can mesure the depth of the dent to tell you how much force (eg. 1/2"=1, 1"=2, 1 1/2"=3, etc.)Also one last idea if you would prefer to stick to range outside, is that you divide the range in feet, by the number of cardboard sheets(or other medium)the gun can shoot trough at point blank range (say it shoots 63 feet, and through 4 sheets of thick, corrugated cardboard the equation would be F= 63/4= 15.75, so your force rating would be 15.75)These are only some ideas to get all of you thinking about a standard in K'nex gun power.-TheXenk

Edit/Update: I AM BACK (for those of you that know me, which is no one, :( womp) and I have decided to do this. I have moved apartments and am now on a nice first floor apartment with a large patio. I am planning things out and going to do some math this week. I am just curious, is there anything like this out there? I know I've seen those hanging gardens where the water trickles down? That is only good enough to grow herbs/small plants etc. Anything else? Thanks for your time everyone. I found this website today, and I have to say that I am glad I did! I've literally spent hours scouring the guides and have this idea in mind. Even through the questions I pose here, I must always keep in mind, "Will it work?" So please keep that question in mind as well. I have a space on my apartment patio that is fairly large (I will get exact measurements at a later time). I will need an elevated garden (with a trough w/reservoir below to capture the water, I live on the second floor and I can't let it run down below). Considering I eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, I'm also thinking of a compost tumbler. First question, can I put almost anything in a compost tumbler that will break down, like fruits, vegetables, grass, leaves, et cetera,? Or does food waste and yard waste need to be separate? I live in Southern California, so my patio gets about 5-6 hours of direct sunlight. I've also been reading that compost bins need some humidity as well. I was thinking of using the reservoir under the garden to put in the compost tumbler from time to time? Would this be effective/necessary? Slugs might not be a problem because I'm on the second floor, but I'm thinking of keeping and Aloe plant out there and use the Aloe spray I saw in a guide. We do have squirrels, but are they attracted to Tomatoes, Cabbage, Basil, et cetera? If so, I will need to build some sort of cage that will keep them out. Is this practical, necessary, and ultimately effective? Thanks for your time ladies and gentlemen. If I do end up going through with this I will record the whole thing and put a guide up!

Last weekend I found a toad with his arm trapped in a mousetrap. I don't know exactly how long he was there, but I discovered him when I heard this shuffling sound from the back of my garage and heard flies buzzing. Upon investigating, I found poor Toady. The flies had already laid eggs on his wound. He was trying to hop away attached to the trap. His arm is clearly broken. He didn't have significant blood loss, but when I first opened the trap his tiny bones were visible at the injury site. I put Toady in a small bucket lined with moss and vegetation, along with adding a little bit of water, and covered the bucket with a dishtowel. I used cotton swabs dipped in saline to clean the wound and applied antibiotic ointment (Neosporin without painkiller). I also tied a thread slightly above the injury site to act as a tourniquet and prevent further infection, and possibly allow for his limb to naturally come off. Below the injury site is swollen, discolored and infected, growing a fuzzy fungus. I've been checking on Toady every other day (I wasn't wanting to stress him out too much with frequent visits), cleaning his wound and infection and applying antibiotic ointment. His arm is clearly dead weight and can't be salvaged. I've put various bugs, slugs/snails and worms in there with him but I haven't seen him eat. I put a june bug in there, and the june bug ended up trying to climb onto him but Toady seemed to try and squash the bug with his chest and then hopped over the bug to the other side. Maybe the beetle is too big for him. I haven't checked to see if the other goodies I gave him are just hiding under the moss. He doesn't appear to be losing or gaining weight. He gets stressed whenever I visit, breathing rapidly and either trying to make himself look larger or do the opposite and huddle down, despite how careful and gentle I try and be around him. I'm worried about predators and infection if I were to release him now. What should I do/not do? I think I'll try Craigslist here to see if there happens to be an experienced amphibian owner with the proper supplies to care for him. I doubt any vet here would be able to do anything, and I don't have the money to do so. Is this toad a male? I thought he was based on his size since he's on the small size, but perhaps it's a youngster? He doesn't make any noises with me, but I'm not sure if it was him chirping in his bucket or a nearby toad. I know there's several right in the immediate vicinity.
