Ok I was sitting at the end of my bed listening to my music (I plugged my psp into my stereo) and I had an idea make my room smart. For example door opens light comes on. I could even make it a security thing. But also I have about six things in different places in my room and they all need to plug into so maybe would make a little switch box/control unit. So I was wondering if you could make your room smart what would you want it to do ?hmm maybe i could make my MICROFROSTEY (mini fridge. (soon to make an instructable on it)) somehow work with this....AND YES I REALIZE A SMART CAR HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH MY ROOM ! ( I just googled SMART and thats what I got)

smart window thermostat

Wanted: circuit to open window at night when it is cooler outside than in. Close it when hotter outside in morn. Probably add something to prevent it from opening and closing several times in the eve and morn with random fluctuations. Prefer 2 thermostats, 1 outside, one in, rather than a timer. I've a vague recollection of a circuit with 2 potentiometers, one on the motor, one on the control panel, such that turning the control pot will activate the motor until its pot is at the same position as ctrl pot.. Could a circuit something  like this control my window? But most thermostats are on/off, not continuous variable.   It would be simple to do a switch logic thing like:  “IF thermo ‘I’ is above 70 AND thermo ‘O’ is below 70, THEN OPEN “  but that only works at 1 temp.

SNES controller idea

Re-using Smart TV board from dead TV to make another TV smarter...

Hi, I have just bought LG 47GA6400 TV but I damaged LCD screen (CRD31092201) when I was assembling it.  I couldn't find low cost LCD to replace and I started wondering how I can reuse any remaining parts of this TV. Actually there are many people like me wondering what to do with dead Smart TV. Few years ago you would receive a standard advice – throw it away. But today Smart TV parts are powerful and with your help might be re-used again... Here is an example: My LG TV has mainboard with dual core CPU,  Google TV inside and cool remote controller with QWERTY keyboard and tons of applications.... I wish I could reuse it with other, not so smart LCD TV I have.  The only problem, how to connect Smart TV mainboard to a HDMI.  It doesn't have HDMI out, it has only input ports and one LCD interface cable.... Is it a crazy idea to convert LCD interface back to HDMI or VGA ? Can you create an instructables to show how to do that ?

How can I create a two-way internet video connection with remote control of an arduino controlled single servo motor?

Hi! I'm trying to develop a project idea that will enable me to connect to my home while I'm away to feed my saltwater fish. I want to be able to establish a two way live video connection and also be able to control a remote device using an arduino controlled servo motor that will deliver the food with a push of a button or click of a mouse. I'd like to be able to use my smart phone or PC to view and control the device. I have a Nexus 7 tablet at home that I plan to use to connect to the arduino to deliver the food and to see the fish tank. Any detailed input on how I can pursue this would be really appreciated. I am a newbie and need some expert advice. :-) Thanks for your help!

can we make a cheap alternative to wiimote with a webcam and a IR emmiter for PC controlling?

Hey guys, I've been wondering... if the Wiimote is basically an infrared camera with g-sensors and buttons that connects via bluetooth, and reads the IR light from a couple of leds... and knowing that any webcam can be modded to become an IR-only cam.... and that with the use of simple IR leds and a wiimote you can make a smart whiteboard.... would it be possible to somehow develop a way to use a modded IR webcam and a handheld IR emmiter -like a wand- to perform like a mouse-like controller for your PC?

Control Garage Door with WeMo Help

Hi everyone, I am a beginner with anything that has to do with electric circuits and I need your help. Recently a WeMo light switch came to my hands and I thought it would be a good idea to use it as a wifi remote and as a regular switch, of course, for my garage door. Smart Phone face glass replacement kit

What this world really needs is a temperature controlled face glass removal and replacement kit. Most of my working friends that have Smart Phones have broken or shattered touch screens. A quick search for touch screen replacement provide a bunch of Youtube videos and DIY kits for under $20. All the vids and kits say that too much, or too little heat will destroy the actual touch sensitive surface under the glass. The only source of heat they use is a blow dryer. I already break enough stuff that is not technology that I do not understand. My brain says a flat aluminum plate with suction holes to hold it in place and act as a handle during removal. Temperature controlled that can be set to the exact temperature for easy removal and replacement without applying too much pressure on the inner touch sensitive part. The online kits offer plastic wedges for popping the glass loose when/if you get the right temperature. An exact temperature face glass removal kit with the necessary wedges or possible strong monofilament fishing line to ease the glass away from the base. Everything I mentioned is beyond my knowledge and/or skills, but DIY Instructables or even kits to help out friends in need would be awesome and probably a good source of income for the entrepreneur.

Interference of codes problem

I want to ask for some help from you regarding of my final year project. I'm doing a simple SMART HOME project by using Arduino wemos. While compiling the function of the smart home, i've encountered some problem to compile it. Actually this is my first time using arduino and i don't really understand about the arduino ide syntax. Actually, there is no error in my coding. Basically, there are 5 functions that I want to put in that smart home. First, to control the lights,curtains and fans using ON/OFF Button, and security system only by using TSOP and IR, and lastly controlling the roof for the clothesline. So, I've problem with controlling the roof for the clothesline. The roof for the clothesline works when the rain sensor detects water/rain and it actually functioning when I do it separately. But, when I compile the code with the other functions, the roof is actually functioned, but it works only if I switch ON/OFF the lights/fans/curtains. So, here I attached the source code of my project with four functions, which are for the lights, fans, curtains and roof.

i am trying to make a remote controlled truck?

Well the idea is to use a smartphone and get skype working on that smart phone why skype? video and mic + audio(analog input) from skype as the signal to control the arduino board(ie i will have to make a simple application which will make specific distinct sound when i press the keys) well the reason why i am using audio is because i cant think of other way to control the arduino from the smartphone well i have heard of people hooking up the arduino using otg cable ,but i am exactly  not sure how that works  WELL THE DESIGN IS STILL ON PAPER ,I STILL DONT KNOW IF THE ANALOG THING WILL ACTUALLY WORK! i would like suggestion from people!!!!

Need help controlling two servos using arduino, bluetooth, and android.

Hi folks.  I am back.  I haven't been very active on here for the past several months, but I did move to a different continent.  Anyway, I need a little help from of those smart arduino folks out there.  I am looking for an app and arduino code to control two servos using an android device via Bluetooth.  There are a ton of instructables on controlling motors via Bluetooth, and there are also several tutorials on controlling one servo via Bluetooth, but what I want to know, is how to control two servos.  I am looking for something like this but able to control two servos.  I did try an app that uses an accelerometer to control two motors, but I want to be able to control them by a slide or nob.  If someone knows of a link that could be the solution to my problem I would be grateful for it. House hold heating? Answered

Like most UK houses my thermostat is in the coldest part of the house - The entrance hall. Although I have recently fitted thermostatic valves fitted to all radiators I can't help but feel the heating would be more effective if I simply controlled the temperature in the room we spend most time in during the evening- The lounge. I guess this would mean the rest of the house would be cooler than at present but that isn't really a problems for us. Is there any reason, anyone knows, not to do this? Voltage Sensor/ Regulator (with switching capability)

Hello All!! I am looking for help! I have a invention that deals with 12 VDC battery banks. I have a series of batteries that I would like to charge with a small solar panel. I need the solar panel current to be able to go from battery to battery as voltage levels drop below 12.55v and when they rise above 13.75v. I know this control-sensor-switch can be built. I just have no idea how to go about it. I also realize this site has some very smart people that use it and would appreciate any help. My xbox smartglass app can connect to my xbox from anywhere, how bout my controller ?

Iv been thinking alot lately about a project i am trying to get started however this is a problem iv been running into. iv been losing hope for awhile untill one day my dad connected smartglass from work to my xbox at home. i want to do the same with a controller and i am in dire need of help brainstorming how. the best iv thought of would be to somehow use an arduino or rasberry pi as a stepper through my internet at home or incorporate my smartphone in there but right now im at a wall. I was looking around and there is an official WIFI module from the manufacturer but the price of it is just horrendous. They are asking nearly 100 USD for that piece of....module. No battery solar motor system?

Hi all!I am competing in this solar boat race and one of their rules was that for a sprint race and a slalom race, the batteries have to be disconnected. We have 4 panels, each rated at 64W(18V), a victron MPPT 75v/15amp charger (bluetooth activated), 240W DC motor (up to 48V), 3000W PWM motor controller.My question is, how should I configure this electrical system with solar power only? Batteries have to be disconnected and not operable.Things that I've tried:I put 4 panels in series (72V) and connected them to the MPPT charger. Then the load I connected them to the PWM motor controller. This was not ideal since the motor barely got any power(very slow), and the panels would over volt up to 76V which was past the 75V as advertised and system goes into overvoltage protection.I also thought of connecting the leads of the solar panels in 36V config (2 parallel, 2 series) directly onto the PWM motor controller but decided that it was safer to ask y'all for some help first. Smart amplifier design building blocks help? (making an amp w/ auto-volume adjust by controlling gain with running avg)

I am currently working on a simple headphone audio amp that automatically adjusts volume to my preference, regardless of what video I click on when it is plugged into a computer. I am tired of some video's being so quiet that I have to crank up the volume to overdrive to hear it, while other video's blast out sound and burst my eardrums. And of course when watching photonicinduction videos, he often can be hard to hear his voice at really low volume at like 12 at night when everyone is asleep, but then the sparks and hammers come into the picture, it is often too late to crank the volume back down, and thus makes your ears bleed or waking everyone up in the neighborhood! X-(. (Luckily he has included sound warnings, but I am lazy, and will engineer things that do the hard work of adjusting volume for me! :)   ) In a way, I understand that this will minimize the dynamic range, which I suppose hardcore "audiophiles" will go NUTS over me actually WANTING to do that, but none the less, That is what I want. My design currently is just a simple emitter follower with a NPN and PNP transistor is the class AB operation, and to minimize crossover distortion and give a definite gain, I have negative feedback op amp from the output of the totem pole transistor arrangement back to the inputs that feed the base of the low and high side transistor. (obviously, the transistors by themselves are low impedance output, (CV mode) and high impedance input, and have a gain of like 1.) Sorry, no schematics, but you capable of googling it if you want to see what I am describing. As it is, it works fine. HOWEVER, it does not do the automatic volume, or gain control. That is set in stone by a resistor divider network between the feedback and ground (the basic non inverting amp feedback config.) I do not want a fixed gain. I want a electrically adjustable gain. The thing I plan to use to do the automatic adjustment would be a peak detector on the input, which is probably going to be a simple diode and capacitor with a buffer, and a discharge resistor (or constant current drain) across the capacitor to gradually lower the max output, or possibly an integrating op amp that effectively takes a running average. The output of that needs to control GAIN of the primary amplifier, and I want to be able to control the PID of that thing, maybe by tuning the a LCR circuit, or what have you. It is all nice and analog, just the way I like it! :) If ONLY there was some magical (and common) component that I could control the resistance anywhere in the feedback loop, of with a given voltage w/ respect to ground... I was thinking of like a MOSFET, but I would have to deal with the non linearity of the input vs output impedance, which probably changes with respect to everything from the current flowing through the channel, the voltage relative to ground at the source, the temperature, the alignment of the planet's, what mood god is in, etc etc etc. That is too many factors for an open loop control on to model in discrete stuff! And digital potentiometers are out of the question since, well they are digital, I want an elegant simple solution, and the are $$ and difficult to deal with. They have so many requirements that need to be addressed.  I prefer a elegant discrete transistor circuit, but op amps and other basic building blocks are acceptable, (this thing I want to be built over a weekend with with jellybean parts from by junk bin.) if you happen to know of a specific audio chip that does this for me, please mention it, but I will probably not use it, but maybe analyze the internal circuitry and learn how it works.

Making your own digital assistant using ardino uno gsm shield Sd card module and VR shield

I am building a personalized assistant or a daily smart reminder sort of which speaks to you. Using the Arduino R3 and GSM Shield: SMS will be sent to the SIM card in the GSM shield connected to Arduino uno and the data fro the SMS will be extracted and stored on the SD card which will be displayed on an LCD screen. All of this will be voice activated and controlled.  Need help with the logic and working of this setup.

Greetings,iam mustafa,working right now as it technical support engineer for 3 years and 7 months .I have never made project for RC car or any project related to embedded systems as i was always scared and think that people who create these things are super smart and iam not smart enough .i always wish to work as embedded software engineer but i've never made a project in real life. i studied c programming and materials related with avr architecture and had many interviews but i fail always .At last interview, i'd failed and the interviewer asked me to do a project so that i get better .i decided to challenge myself and build an rc car .i asked a friend of mine to help me in project& i made a code using atmel studio IDE and simulator(proteus) to test my code..my code could move the dc motor right ,left and backward and forward till this moment on the simulator (proteus software) .After while i was sick and my friend was busy as he traveled abroad cause of his work.and iam very disappointed as i didn't finish my project .i get older and i want to make a shift career and work as an embedded software engineer but iam afraid that i won't achieve my dream . i hope this post will give me a hope to continue the path of achieving my dream careeri have bought this things: 4 DC motors 12 vwifi moduleH bridge moduleresistors and wires and breadboard===============================i hope that i find some one who is patient and keep an eye on me while i do the project .Thanks all

How to keep backlights on from a vizio e3d320vx?

Hello all, So heres the deal, i found someone trowing out a vizio smart 3d tv and i think to myself surely i can salvage something. One of the thing i want is the cfl tubing back light. When i plug it in the back light will flash but not stay on and im pretty sure this is due to the control board needing to tell it to stay on, seeing as how this isn't working i was looking for another way to power the back light purely from the power supply. Is there anyone that cold please help me?

Ideas for parts laying around

I have some old circuts and parts laying around the house and alot of it is just small simple stuff like a broken screen here, broken screen there. Over loaded capsitors etc etc. I was looking for the best idea how to use them all together I have a steam link that has no power input  (got pulled out but other than that, mint condition) 2 laptop mother boards with all parts, No heat sink PS3d tv controller board couple smart phones laying around with a few spart parts and cords from desktops and laptops. Just looking for ideas, i can post pictures latter on in the day

Any really good image quality micro cam? Is it possible to use a cracked smartphone have the camera work independently?

I am looking for the best quality smallest camera possible for a helmet build. I have Galaxy S8 phone which is cracked, but it has great 4k recording. I have seen a bunch of small pinhole/spy cameras, but they shoot terrible image quality. Most smart phones will blow them away with image quality. So is it possible to dissect a smartphone and have the camera work with a 3rd party controller or similar? If not, does anyone know of any very small cameras/builds with good image quality?

Scarpar's all-terrain power board has been in development since the 90s, Engineering and design organization EDAG have been helping with the production.Basically its like a skateboard but with tracks underneath that are as wide as the board itself. Arduino - Mega or Duemlianove?

I have been thinking about getting an arduino from Adafruit Industries. They carry two - The arduino duemlianove with the Atmega328 and the more powerful Mega with atmega1280 chip. I am having difficulty choosing between the two microcontrollers. My main focus will be on larger projects like the Garduino(www.instructables.com/id/Garduino_Gardening_Arduino/) but again also on smaller robotics projects like advanced balancing robots(multiple accelerometers and sonar sensors)or even arduino smart drones(aircraft).Some of the factors in my descision will depend on: Price Weight Dimensions Power requirements Flash ROM Output pins Protoshield/other shield capabilities PWM control XBee wireless support Integration with logic systems Support for multiple(3) LCD screens/Dot Matrix displays Multiple Servo support Sound/Media support Please help me choosing this microcontroller.I will only buy once in maybe 4-5 years so I want it to be good buy. Also tell me which shields should I buy for my requirements: either the sound shield or the servo shield.I think I will buy the servo shield because it will give me greater control over my robotcs projects Kabir

Remote shutter - Transistor madness (or some other sort)

Hi all, I'm trying to build remote shutter for my camera. Intervalometer to be exact. That doesn't really matter. I have this page http://www.robotroom.com/Macro-Photography-2.html describing how to make a simple remote shutter. The schema is simple - trivial. However, instead of 2 physical switches, I'd like to control it using audio signal from my smart phone. I'm a programmer and I can make an app that will output signal of any volume and frequency. I'd like to control these two switches using this signal. Those switches provide 4 positions, however only 3 are needed - nothing, focus, shutter. Can anyone adjust that schema, add (probably) transistors or some other parts if needed to make this happen? Remote shutters for other cameras (Canon, Nikon, Pentax, ...) work in similar way, so similar schemas can be derived to serve whole range of digital SLRs. Motivation: I don't want to buy costly and redundant intervalometer, I can create nice app for Android which can work together with just small DIY piece of analog circuit to create wonderful timelapse videos.

batery charging

Having had to buy a dedicated charger for some 18650 cells (at my wife's insistence) I took an interest in these cells for the first time and their smaller cousins the 123a. At with maximum capacities I've come across so far of 3700mAh and 2000mAh respectivley that's twice the capacity of the battery in my smart phone and 2.5 times the capacity of the one in my basic bar phone. The smart phone width would accommodate 3 of the 18650 cells (6 days without charging at my rate of use) and the bar phone possibly 4 of the 123a's (70 hours talk time or 10 months on standby). Yes this would mean a custom made back, but there is at least one instructable on molding a GRP/ carbon phone back adjusting it to take extra cells and maybe ports just needs modeling clay. I suppose I could just carry a power bank, but why if the phone can be its own power bank? Removing the guts of a power bank and building a new phone back to accommodate them may be the simplest answer to this but, my questions are:- A) I've got old mobiles laying around could I use their charging circuits to charge these standard Li-ion cells? Assuming that is a yes that would mean a long charge every 6 days/ 10 months. I gather there are problems associated with parallel charging/ discharging of Li-ion cells and over discharging so, B) Any advice on doing this other than don't? On the assumption that's a don't or even if its not this strikes me as a safer possibility. C) Could a micro controller be configured to discharge one cell to its limit then switch to the next full cell. D) Could a micro controller be configured to charge one cell to capacity then look for the next under capacity cell and charge that. E) if so could it do both at the same time? If A is possible and the rest not then a multi position switch is  probably the answer.

I just took a ride in an awesome truck

Here's some photos from the new model from Topeka Electric Motors. It's a 3/4 ton Chevy pickup with a gigantic motor and a boatload of lithium batteries, with an automatic transmission, power steering, power brakes, A/C, etc. The motor on this thing is HUGE...a foot or so in diameter. This is a truck that could tow a cement mixer. They're using it as a work truck to deliver electric motors, pumps, and everything else they work on. I took a ride in it this morning, and it runs smoother than a gas truck. This is the brainchild of a few smart guys at Topeka Electric Motor. These guys are tuning the shift points for an electric motor to get maximum power and efficiency, programming the controller to perfectly match what the motor needs, and basically making a vehicle that beats the pants off anything the big companies with hundreds of engineers have put out.

multiple processes in arduino? Answered

Is there an easy way to run multiple voids at the same time on an arduino uno? preferrably without aditional libraries, but I cannot flash AVR code to it (must be through IDE).  I do NEED to run the processes at the same time, no they do not share pins or variables, and the timing does not need to be precise.  I am trying to run two steppers at the same time, but different speeds, but the big catch is that I don't have "smart" drivers, just a 2003 and 293, so they each require a separate void to move, and they cannot be run simultaneously without running both voids at the same time.  Basically, I'm NOT looking for an alternative, just a way to run two voids at the same time (or switching back and forth very quickly without being affected by "delay();".

Hey, let's invent this immediately!!!

OK folks, how hard can this possibly be?Yeah, yeah, I know. Probably REALLY hard. But if we all team up and combine our gray matter, can't we overcome any technological obstacle with our collective geekiness?I want to see an affordable, open-source doodad that can turn an LCD from a dead laptop into a working external flatscreen monitor. It should accept digital & analog signals and allow us all to hack up beautiful screens ready to embed in our brilliant projects, while keeping LCD's out of the landfill.punish3r valiantly went down this road: https://www.instructables.com/id/Laptop-Converted-to-2nd-Monitor/but then ended up "cheating" (his words, not mine) by using software that does most of the work (plus he started with a functional laptop!). Discussions I've read usually end with "you'd have to buy a controller for that specific LCD, which would cost almost as much as a regular flatscreen so what's the point?"I reject this (resting on my laurels of ignorance)! If a controller truly exists for every LCD on earth, don't they share lots of common features? And if so, can't we come up with a generic one that could be programmed or dip-switched or soldered or otherwise persuaded to play nice with any LCD on the playground? Even the weird one by the monkey bars who smells like cheese? (Sorry; stretched my metaphor too far and it broke)I envision a circuit board with PC or even TV "in," an amazingly versatile multi-pin adaptor or cable that would replace or connect to that flimsy little ribbon cable sprouting from the LCD. The board would have a USB plug for programming, and a chip smart enough to remember what you tell it. Some smart person will write a nifty app that talks to the board, and vast legions of techies across the globe (or rogue employees of the LCD manufacturers, perhaps?) will upload specs for all of their LCD panels that will be used by other smart people to create a profile for any given panel that can be dropped onto the board.It would have to be really low-cost to make sense, but I envision a cottage industry: package it up as a kit, or we could build goofy-looking monitors out of e-waste and sell them!Somebody else could probably strengthen the argument in favor of this invention by providing a list of terrible LCD ingredients that would be re-purposed out of our trash heaps and water supplies and cat food... I'll leave that up to the experts.What do you think, folks? Is this a pipe dream, or a viable idea? Microcontroller Timered Surge Protector

OK. So I have an indoor garden. A homemade Aeroponics setup for all kinds of lettuce, tomatoes even roses or other flowers for the girlfriend (dude this makes all of it worth it) but I want to be as clutter free as possible and well a gaggle of timers hooked to surge protectos is a hassle. I am looking to integrate a USB stick for the program into a microcontroller that will fit in one of those 8 outlet power bricks. There is quite a bit of unused room in these (almost enough for another row of 4 outlets). In Fact I have seen some of the 12 outlet models with the same overall size profile as the 8 that I have. It is just a regular old belkin entertainment center surge protector but I have a box full of various surge protectors etc. I even have an old backup UPS with a shot battery that I could use that housing but I would prefer a slimmer profile. I want to also use these to control the entertainment area kind of like a smart Kill-A-Watt. Maybe even the computers too. Each outlet could be individually controlled as well as master shutoffs. If you wanted to get really creative you could even set power usage limits for each plug or other Then you would just need a small desktop application to plug all the parameters into. This would by far be the most tedious depending on what microcontroller you use. I am always popping up with these ideas but I lack the expertise in several areas to develop something like this on my own. But I am pretty good at following directions.

PC half dead - not good

Machine will not POST - no beep, BIOS smart fan-control not engaging, PS2 keyboard has no power, monitor reads "no signal" Board does have power - things spin (like the CPU fan which shouldn't until it gets hot) Preceding clues(?) - I thought I'd developed tinnitus, but found it was the PSU (I think) making a high-pitched ringing noise, half the day unplugged and that seemed to go away. Display not engaging properly on start-up: If I waited until the machine got to Windows login and then switch the monitor on - no problem. Switching the monitor on before this point - black sort of standby mode. I think I might try the PSU first, then think about the mainboard. So far I've plugeed and re-plugged things, tried with 0,1 & 2 strips of RAM with no difference. Any suggestions welcome I spent a lot of time replacing 1 cap' in the PSU, then I replaced the PSU (logic being that if I've tampered with it an the thing still doesn't work I should replace it regardless) Then I bought a new board. I was a bloody-sod, CD/DVD still doesn't work... L

California Government tries to prevent reuse; issues ACCRC a violation

Just the other day while I was cleaning out old computers I thought to myself how wonderful it was that the Alameda County Computer Recycling Center was nearby. The ACCRC is a not-for-profit organization that accepts old electronic parts to build working computers that they give away to people in need. Anything they can't use gets properly recycled, and they do this all without charging any fees. The Department of Toxic Substance Control of the California Environmental Protection Agency is causing trouble for the ACCRC, and this may ultimately lead to the ACCRC's demise. In short, the government is using the letter of the law to do totally bone-headed things, and has slapped the ACCRC with a violation. It's our government, and it should work for us to encourage smart ways, like the ACCRC, to lessen our impact on the environment. Even if you don't live in California, this is important because California typically leads the nation on these types of issues.There's a couple of things you can do, including contacting people at the government agency and donating directly to the ACCRC. Check ACCRC's founder James Burgett's blog for details on both. More coverage here at Boingboing.

Help requested for purchase of components

Hi. I'm a newbie to embedding but I have a project that needs this and there is no commercially available solution that I can find so I need to learn how to build it myself. This can and will be done in modules... I figure I can tackle one task at a time until I end up with a complete working system, but use the system in the meant time, as I get it completed. The main goal is for an electric motorcycle conversion dashboard,  which will include a password protected relay switch "ignition key" to power the vehicle on securely (Task #1), a user configurable display to show speedometer, odometer, tripometer, clock, battery pack voltage, motor rpm/temp, controller temp, coolant temp, etc via a waterproof rugged tablet (probably a Windows 10 tablet, probably with an Android emulator installed). I'm finding that there are so many different options available, I don't know what to purchase. I want to spend my hard earned money wisely and just buy what I need the first time. Instead of learning the "hard" way, I want to learn the "smart" way. Please help me get started. Thank you in advance!

Arduino Robot Challenge: How inexpensively can you create a robot using an Arduino for 5th Graders? Answered

PLEASE VOTE FOR MY PROJECT! So here is the challenge:  For the lowest amount of $ and ease of part availability create a robot that can be used to teach 5th graders via "physical computing". I have been on a 4 month journey of learning...lessons learned so far are heavily influenced by:  SERB AND Mothbot ...Instructables smart ads on the sidebar just led me to this exciting solution: Babuino! Some of my thoughts/guidelines/rules/challenges: - Use K'nex.  Cheap, available, and familiar to the kids. - No tools required! - Use Arduino.  Assume $30 cost.  I know many other options exist to reduce this cost...but for now keep it simple! - Use Scratch for Arduino.  I have donated PC's from my employer and plan on loading Ubuntu...another zero cost aspect! - Start in "tethered mode", later on go to Xbee link to PC...or hope that S4A gets the unlinked mode working soon. - servo's seem the best approach to drive without extra requirements....GWS S35 STD Continuous Rotation Servo Motor is the one I have from Mothbot. - However, I would like to use the motor that comes in the Robo Battlers K'nex kits.... - So I am thinking of a robot base consisting of a DC motor rear 2 wheel axle...still trying to figure out the best circuit to allow forward/reverse...not too worried at this point about speed control...maybe later? - Steering could be via a front axle controlled by the GWS servo...I think?  However, it appears that steering can be difficult via K'nex. Me, my teacher partner, and 21 5th graders thank you for helping meet this challenge!

The fast-expanding developing economies of India and China, where coal remains a major fuel source for more than two billion people, have long been regarded as among the biggest challenges to reducing carbon emissions. But the return now to coal even in eco-conscious Europe is sowing real alarm among environmentalists who warn that it is setting the world on a disastrous trajectory that will make controlling global warming impossible.
