Snap-fit design

Hello all, The left panel in the image I have uploaded represents aluminium frame, 1mm thick. What I would like to do is design another aluminium or plastic piece that can snap into the inside of this frame (something like the right panel in the image). The frame, once positioned in, would be a permanent fixture. I have looked at different kind of snap-fit joints but I'm not sure on what's the most appropriate design in terms of simplicity and functionality. Another issue is calculating the actual dimensions of the snap-fit joints. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

snap board concept

Hello everybody, this is a new idea of mine that I want to share with you. the snap board concept. It is made of zip lock bags, card board, and duck tape. This idea could be used in notebooks or you could just make a wall of this and make all different bags and holders that snap on to the zip lock rail. You can slide the bags from side to side if you want. I might put this in a notebook case so that I can customize it with pencil holders and other organizers. Or I might make it so that I can snap on different covers and stuff like that . Please tell me any other ideas to use this idea and comments. I will post an Instructables when I make a true model and get feedback. Please comment and subscribe

Found a baby snapping turtle?

Hi, recently my brother and I found a baby snapping turtle on the road. Do you know how or what we should do with it? There is a pond down the road, but before you say we should release it, keep in mind that it is only a little over an inch long. Should we take care of it until it gets big and then let it go? All help is appreciated.

Bolt snapped off in flywheel, how to remove it?

Hi everyone. I was replacing the pressure plate in a nissan navara with a td27 engine. One of the bolts that holds the pressure plate to the flywheel broke. So we drilled a hole and used a easyout. However the drill bit wandered so the hole touches the side of the thread. As a result the easyout wont work. The hole barley scrapes the side so the thread only looks slightly damaged, but ok. Have also tryed getting a punch on the edge but that wont work either. Any ideas on how to remove it?

heavy duty snap source for making leather bracelets?

Hi,   Have been looking at the tutorials for making leather bracelets.  Purchased a snap setter from a craft store but the snaps aren't deep enough.  The leather is too thick for the snaps, it barely gets through the leather.   There's no way it could make the connection to attach the snaps to the leather.  The leather I'm using is about 1/8" or 3mm thick; about the thickness of a belt.  Suggestions for sources? Thanks!

Snap Circuits IC's, can I get the same functions in a small IC?

Hi. My kid (and I) have recently started messing around with Snap Circuits. We have a specific project in mind and want to design the circuit using Snap Circuits, then shrink it to fit in an Altoids box. Question: Is there a direct facsimile available of the integrated chips in the Snap Circuits box? Meaning, the same input voltage and current, where I can assemble all the matching components to my Snap Circuits circuit (switches, resistors, capacitors), and then just switch in the new (small) IC for where the Snap Circuits IC goes. This would also help with troubleshooting. Any thoughts? Here is the Elenco supplied schematic description of the Snap Circuits' IC: http://www.snapcircuits.net/downloads/ic_info.pdf

Controlling a DC motor (12v) using a SN754410 Motor Driver Ic and 2 snap-action switches?

I am using a Arduino Uno with a SN754410 ic to control my 12v motor (exactly like diagram from http://itp.nyu.edu/physcomp/Labs/DCMotorControl) Managed to use a SPDT switch to change direction (sheer miracle for me) I plan to put 1 snap-action switch in front of my bot and 1 at the back, so it will travel forward until it hits an obstacle, then reverse all the way until it hits another obstacle. Once the motor is activated, it will go maybe go for 5 minutes, then pause for 10mins, then on for 5 mins again, and so forth. First attempt with the arduino so any help with detailed instructions about how to go about wiring these two extra switches and the programming code would be greatly appreciated! Also, I need it to be mobile so I'm thinking of connecting a 12v2.2AH/20HR sealed rechargeable battery to the motor itself, and another 9v for the board cos I read it regulates it to 5v. Will this be ok? Will it be able to last my bot for a few hours? My current code: int switchPin = 2;    // switch input int motor1Pin = 3;    // H-bridge leg 1 (pin 2, 1A) int motor2Pin = 4;    // H-bridge leg 2 (pin 7, 2A) int enablePin = 9;    // H-bridge enable pin     void setup() {     // set the switch as an input:     pinMode(switchPin, INPUT);     // set all the other pins you're using as outputs:     pinMode(motor1Pin, OUTPUT);     pinMode(motor2Pin, OUTPUT);     pinMode(enablePin, OUTPUT);     // set enablePin high so that motor can turn on:     digitalWrite(enablePin, HIGH);   }     void loop() {     // if the switch is high, motor will turn on one direction:     if (digitalRead(switchPin) == HIGH) {       digitalWrite(motor1Pin, LOW);   // set leg 1 of the H-bridge low       digitalWrite(motor2Pin, HIGH);  // set leg 2 of the H-bridge high     }     // if the switch is low, motor will turn in the other direction:     else {       digitalWrite(motor1Pin, HIGH);  // set leg 1 of the H-bridge high       digitalWrite(motor2Pin, LOW);   // set leg 2 of the H-bridge low     }   }

What would you make with a desktop CNC milling machine

The MTM Snap is an open source CNC desktop milling machine designed at the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms. The frame, milling head and bed are milled from 1/2" HDPE and are designed to snap together around the other required hardware for fast and easy construction. It's designed primarily for use manufacturing PCBs but the project site lists waxes and plastics as other materials that it can be used to machine. I've been given one to play with, if YOU had access to one, what would you use it to make?

Fix Rattan/Bamboo furniture - NOT WICKER!!!

I recently bought a mid-century rattan dining table with four chairs.  I want to replace the cushions on the chairs - two piece, but they have snaps to keep the cushions in place.  I do not plan on having snaps on the new cushions, but that leaves me with the male part of the snaps.  If I pull them out, which I want to do, I will be left with a bunch of holes and no clue how to fix them, and since I haven't removed them yet, I have no idea how deep the holes will be.  I am open to any and all suggestions.   Thank you!   PS, I've tried to upload photos, but it's not working.

File Box for Index Cards

For some time I've been searching on Instructables for how to make a file box for index cards. No matter what word order or word types I used, what came up was making stuff out of index cards, or other odd stuff.  But nothing that got me what I was searching for. How to make a file box for index cards, needs to be basic & simple, not laser cutting (as don't have such). However, do have a box cutter, packing tape, handheld power tools: circular saw, saber saw, drill, just no tabletop tools, & no way to make, & no room to put any tabletop for such. I've looked at the Snap-N-Store collapsible index card file boxes, & have head/read by customer reviews that the snaps don't necessarily stay snapped.  I'm thinking if made w/cardboard or fiberboard (as the Snap-N-Store is) that something like corner brackets/braces (just not metal ones for wood)  can be used instead of snaps, & would hold together better. The Snap-N-Store boxes I'm wanting hold 1000 cards ea, & for ea size of index card 3X5, 4X6, & 5X8 I just need some help for a pattern & building instructions. Can anyone do an Instructable for such so I can follow & make them? Remember, I don't have, nor get access to, nor know how to use a laser cutter, or tabletop powertools. I just have handheld powertools of circular saw, saber saw, drill, & boxcutter, scissors & the usual handtools & hardware. Thanks

My guitar hero drum kick pad broke, the pin on the jack snapped off. Need help in rewiring a new jack.

The connector plug sheared off where it plugs into the drum set. I cut the cable to replace the jack but can't figure out how the wires inside can be reconnected to the new jack. It looks like there is only one wire inside the insulation but part is red and part is gold. But they seem to run together. Any advice or help appreciated!?

I broke my baby!! (UPDATED)

Disasterous news - I snapped my Instructables Leatherman, that has been somewhere about my person almost every day for more than five years. :'-( It's not an actual blade, it's the awl, but it's still left a painful, jagged stump that stops the tool being pocket-friendly (see the second photo). Do I just grind the stump off smoothly, or can the awl be replaced? UPDATE: it cannot be repaired, only replaced, so I'm going to grind it down to a new, shorter point.

Battery Powered Puppet Show Squibs

I'm doing a puppets show ( of die hard) anyhoo i though that if i could use wire and a battery to trigger a bang snap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bang_snaps) then i could effectively make a squib to go on the puppet. However i don't even know what kind of voltage would be required to do this. I obviously want to keep things safe so can a battery (and a car battery would be too big) be used to set off a bang snap?

Attach membrame to silicon housing

Burning question! I am trying to attach a membrame (which is made of latex at the moment) to a silicon housing (see attachment). The membrame should be a able to move vertically and thus expand a bit. The two challenges are: - The membrame should not be to thin, because otherwise it snaps and; - The membrame should not be to thick, because otherwise their is too much pressier on the sides and it also snaps. The membrame and the silicon housing should be airtied. The material of the membrame can change, although it needs to be flexible of course. Any tips on which material to use for the membrame or on assembly techniques? Cheers, Thijs

(in pounds or grams) Do they snap in two? Are they work 40 dollars? my current truck weights 13/16ths of a pound so like a little more 3/4ths of a pound I'm only like 112 lbs so I doubt I could ever snap any trucks but still.

Best way to cut plexiglass without a laser cutter?

I need to cut a 9" diameter circle out of a 12"x12", 1/8" thick piece of clear cast acrylic (making an infinity mirror). I've cut this stuff with laser cutters before but don't currently have access to one. I have a circular glass cutter but I'm not really clear how that does me any good - it scores a circle but the acrylic doesn't seem brittle enough to snap off nicely along a circular line. I have a jigsaw with a wood blade but that just snagged and made the acrylic shatter. I have made rectangular cuts before by scoring a straight line with a utility knife, then lining that cut up with the edge of a table, and hitting the suspended piece of acrylic with a mallet - it snaps right off. I'm just not sure how to make a circular cut. Finer-tooth jigsaw blade? Approximate it using the score-and-snap method for a many-sided polygon with a bunch of straight cuts?
