Would anyone know if it's possible to use the modem in my ibook to hook into my phone line and use my ibook as an answering machine/callerid onscreen and be able to record/listen into conversations without making a clicking noise that the phone makes? Thanks guys, I'm sure someone here probably knows what software I can use.

Hey guys and gals, I am playing around with a old Pentax 110 camera and I noticed that my cheap Labtec webcam fits almost perfect in the backing of the camera. This works VERY well because I have numerous lenses that I can switch out. I immediatly noticed the quality of the image is many time better doing this. The main problem I have is the webcam fits perfect rotated sideways. When I use the cam the video/pics are all rotated. Is there any software that will run on a PC that will rotate this for me? Also out of curiosity is there anyway via firmware update, software etc... to increase the overall size of the image or is it hardware dependant? I appreciate any help I can get. Thanks, Jester

I noticed that there was a software that was called Eagle PCB design software but it costs money while there is a version that is free. It appears to me they can do the same thing so, why is the PCB design software $49 but the regular software free?

I just thought that the Lego-ers (?) would like to know about Ldraw, open source CAD software specifically for designing Lego models. Have a look at this BBC News story to see a chap who built a model of St Pancras' railway station to a scale suitable for minifigs. Of course, you may not wish to go "open" with your software (I doubt that Ldraw has been as thoroughly debugged as Firefox, for instance), so you may with to use the official Lego CAD software.

. I'll kick this off with my all time favorite, SourceForge. "The world's largest Open Source software development web site.". No matter what you want to do, you can probably find a free program that will do it at SourceForge.. Quality of the programs varies widely, but if you pay attention to last revision dates (be wary if it hasn't been updated in a few years or hasn't been updated since it was posted) and the number of downloads (more is usually better), you can skip over the lesser stuff.. Not sure how they handle malware prevention, but I've never been infected by any of the plethora of stuff I've downloaded.. . 2008-04-26. Here's the sources others have contributed, in a handy list with links. MS Visual BASIC (Brennn10) Softpedia (LinuxH4x0r, ll.13) MajorGeeks (Goodhart) Download.com (CNET/ZDNET) (Goodhart, ll.13) The Pirate Bay (ll.13)

I am just starting to get into PICs, problem is, I can't find a program. All these tutorials on PICs on Instructalbes talk about the hardware, but not very many talk about software. I am pretty fluent in VBasic/Basic so I would like a developer that works in that language or C/C++. I have PIC Prog, but that just downloads it. Anyway here's what I need help finding: -Free devolpment and compiler program -Preferably programs with Basic or C -Works with JDM2 programmers. Yes I have MCU experience, but it's been with an OOPic. I can't use it on everything so I am switching to PICs. Anyway if anyone can help me with software solutions, I'd really appreciate it.

From the NASA press release: NASA has released its 2017-2018 software catalog, which offers an extensive portfolio of software products for a wide variety of technical applications, all free of charge to the public, without any royalty or copyright fees. Available in both hard copy and online, this third edition of the publication has contributions from all the agency’s centers on data processing/storage, business systems, operations, propulsion and aeronautics. It includes many of the tools NASA uses to explore space and broaden our understanding of the universe. A number of software packages are being presented for release for the first time. Each catalog entry is accompanied with a plain language description of what it does. “The software catalog is our way of supporting the innovation economy by granting access to tools used by today’s top aerospace professionals to entrepreneurs, small businesses, academia and industry,” said Steve Jurczyk, associate administrator for NASA’s Space Technology Mission Directorate (STMD) in Washington. “Access to these software codes has the potential to generate tangible benefits that create American jobs, earn revenue and save lives.” NASA published the first edition of its software catalog in April 2014, becoming the first comprehensive listing of publicly available software to be compiled by a federal government agency -- the largest creator of custom code. Since then, NASA has shared thousands of its software programs with students, industry, individuals and other government agencies. “Software has been a critical component of each of NASA’s mission successes and scientific discoveries. In fact, more than 30 percent of all reported NASA innovations are software,” said Dan Lockney, NASA’s Technology Transfer program executive. “We’re pleased to transfer these tools to other sectors and excited at the prospect of seeing them implemented in new and creative ways.” The searchable catalogue is here: https://software.nasa.gov Wouldn't it be cool to use NASA code in your next project? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JIpyc8AfMZY

I just built a DIY projector for my room (basically an overhead with an lcd and fans slapped on). Many people that do this use a 15 inch screen, but my family recently burnt out the backlight of a 17", so I used that. Anyways, since the stage of the overheadprojector can't see the whole LCD, some parts of the image get cut off. Is there some sort of software to essentially shrink a screen so that I can get the whole image viewable to the projector?

I'm looking for recommendations for good software for making schematics and layouts for protoboard (you know, the copper clad perf board). I've tried expressPCB and looked at Eagle, but they're designed for etching a board - not as helpful as I'd hoped. I want one that allows you to easily create a schematic, generate netlists, lay out your parts, and create connections. ExpressPCB does this, but it is missing something I would really really like - the ability to view the reverse side of the board (for when you're wiring the board). What do you use? Do you like it? What is it missing? Oh yeah, and I don't want to pay anything, either. I'm cheap!

Is there any cool software that allows you to literally draw the waveform for music (specifically a longer tone ex: >10 secs) To add some clarity -I want to draw sort of a the "rough" waveform, and have it filled in by a computer synthesizer; I know the extreme complexity of sound. I also have many audio editing programs, and I know of FL Studio and all of that. I want to have a sound that if looking at the waveform, you see the shape drawn. I don't want to draw all of the individual peaks and valleys. Looping an individual drawn minuscule waveform is simple with a wavetable synthesizer application. I'm saying that if i draw something like "^", the computer will fill that in with that synthesizer's pattern without the "steps" (_-_) that are created with instruments.

I was going to ask a general question about software, but I was reminded that, as an educator, I can get free Autodesk software. But, which do I choose? Browsing the site, they all seem to produce the same things... I have two general tasks: create files to run a lasercutter, and create files to be printed in 3d. The latter is mainly for fun (I want to make a head-start on some files to print over the Summer), the former is longer term (by the time I get back to school in September, we will have a laser cutter of our own). Is there one programme that does both? Or would you recommend separate specific programmes? (Free bonus question: I know Inkscape can be used to create laser-cutter files. What format do I save them in? .eps?)

Hey everybody. Just a few questions about music making softwares. First off, if you make a song from (the software's) loops and pre-determined notes, can you still copyright that song? Or do u owe the company money, or can u not copyright it at all? Also does anyone know a really good software I can buy thats relatively cheap? I don't want to spend $400, but I'm willing to go up to $100 or a bit more. Lastly, does anyone have any good guides for getting into this type of music making? Thanks in advance, I really appreciate the help!!!!! :)

Back in college we used to work with SolidWorks, so I'm used to making some simple work in that. Problem is they do not have trials anymore, and I can't afford such a program. So I'm looking for a nice free CAD program to replace it. - It should have 3D capabilities, to make it easier for me to understand what I'm doing. - Constraints, so I can define dimensions and features and have the other features adjust to it - Boolean and Splines support, but no need for fancy tools. - Drafting, to make the finished blueprint. It doesn't need any simulation, rendering, analytics, or management tools, and should, before anything else, be easy to learn. Right now I have found a number of programs, but I have no idea about how to figure out which is "better" for me. I will be testing them while waiting for a possible reply, so maybe I'll be the one to find a nice one :) But PLEASE don't hesitate to reply if you have any suggestions! The ones I have found are: BRL-CAD, the US Army's open-source CAD Program PowerSHAPE-e Kompas 3D T-FLEX CAD Student Edition Anyway, hope we can get a dialog going and find the best free hobby starter's CAD software for tech and craft :)

I mean how do they create the graphics (links of free download available graphics library's would be appreciated). Also how do they connect that(graphics) with their kernel? I know c++ already, which else languages or concepts do i need to know to create such a software? Also i would like to know how FEA is integrated in these software's. Expecting detailed reply's from all the experienced people who have worked on PARASOLID or Granite (PTC) or any other CAD/CAM software!

Hey, I recently got really into animation, like the type done at Pixar, and I was wondering if anyone knew a nice, free software for animation purposes. I'm not talking about Powtoon or anything like that, I would like to make the characters using softwares, not pre-made circles and rectangles. I'd prefer online software, but it can be downloadable. But my biggest thing is that it needs to be free. Google hasn't been much help in this matter, and I was wondering if any of you animators knew. I'm looking to make movies with this. Thanks for the help! Best Answer chosen as soon as possible!!

Does anyone out there know of good (preferably free) software for laying out the pages of a booklet on a letter size or legal size sheet of paper? It would have to be able to assemble the pages of the booklet (some upside down, others on the back of the sheet) that is then folded, stapled and cut to make a booklet.

Hey everyone....I recently acquired a digital video camera and am looking for software to capture and edit. I don't need something like FinalCut - it just needs to be able to grab stuff off my camera and have basic editing capabilities. Any recommendations on something sub $50.Normally, I'd just use windows movie maker :P Unfortunately, its acting up (can't view any previews) and reformatting is not an option at the moment :P

Hello everyone, I have been trying to interface ServoBlaster on my pi, and have ran into an issue. I am a a beginner with Python, and so that may be the reason, but what my issue is: I can't find/figure out how to write a script for controlling software! All i find is how to control GPIO Pins via a python script for WebIOPi. With all the looking i have done, i haven't seen a guide, tutorial, or project involving interfacing software. All i find is how to write a program for the pins themselves, and not a command. What i would need to do, is instead of turning on or off a pin, the python script would run a command. So, how would i write a script in python for WebIOPi that doesn't make a GPIO pin high or low, but instead runs a command such as 'echo P1-12=120 > /dev/servoblaster'?

Ok, so I have to do some engineering drawings of our robot arm for science olympaid. For now I can just make stuff really easily in paint in like 10min. But part of our score is in the quality of paperwork if there is a tie for operation. We are building a new arm that will be much more complicated. I happen to have a webcam above a white panel for creating things for a video game development thing my little bro got. (software is nothing impressive, probably not even as good as ms paint). I do have auto cad software, but havent used it much (my grandpa gave the pc to me and he had it on here). Is there any sort of program or feature in cad that allows you to kind of scan things in? I think that our bimba pnumatic cylinders are worthy of being accurately rendered in cad. But I dont have the knowledge of how to do it "free hand"

I'm planning on building a X-Y CNC machine. The issue is softwares. My plan was to get 2 scanners, and rip out the stepper motors. Then, as seen on an instructables, use a parallel port with 2 or 3 ULN2003 chips to control the motors. My idea was to do as they did, and use TURBO-CNC to controll the parallel ports, unless there's something better to use? Can TURBO-CNC read G-Codes? If so, what is the best program to use for creating G-Codes? This project is starting with a 1W blue laser as a etcher / paper cutter CNC. It it going to be used for getting my machine tuned up. Once things are in good order, It's going to be turned into a 60W acrylic / 1mm aluminum / thin wood cutter.

Is there any software where I can identify the material and the structure and then test how much load the structure can hold before it fails? My structure is a spaghetti bridge and I was wondering if such software exists where I can input the data (material, dimension, shape, etc) and then identify a load unit and start applying it to the structure. Therefore, I would be able to enhance my bridge before execution. Thank you for your help!

For my first instructable I need some free software, for XP, to create a simple animated video, of a time line, with an object moving over it, the time line needs to be stretched during the show. The video would be very simple; the main message is a description of what is happening, for that I need to over lay text. Second poor alternative, would be a voice over. If not XP, I can use OS Ubuntu 9.4, if that has suitable software recommended to me.
