Standing desk

Check out the new standing desk that I built yesterday. My previous standing desk was working just fine, it just wasn't in the kitchen. Kitchen gravity has been pulling me out of the spare bedroom/office and into the kitchen, where everyone else hangs out. Working on my laptop at the kitchen table was killing my wrists, so I mounted a proper setup to the wall. The LCD is held to the wall with an Ergotron Lx Wall Mount, and the Kensington 60044 Keyboard tray (also seen in my Ergonomic Workstation ), is mounted to a small shelf built from triangular brackets, 2x4's, and a plywood top surface. It seems to be working pretty well, and the kitchen now appears to a have "helm."I've got an Instructable in progress on the keyboard shown in the pictures, so look for that soon.EDIT:How to make a vertical, ergonomic tie-fighter keyboard is done!See the on-the-go version of this standing desk here in Handy Tricks Six.

Hello all, It's been a while since I've made anything with k'nex, but I just recently made a nice laptop stand that I wanted to share some pictures of it. If you like it you can probably make it from the pictures, but I don't think it's worthy of an instructable.

Building a monitor stand

G'day I am an average woodworker but rweally enjoy it. I have recently built a rudimentary monitor stand that works. I can send specs if anyone is interested. I am looking at building a monitor stand. I am playing around with specs and was thinking about 25cm wode, 20 cm deep, and 12 cm height. That is a bit more than the books that my monitor is currently standing on. Has anyone built one recently and if so, what specs did you use. Thanks in anticipation

Standing (punching) Bag

Hi Everybody I have been boxing for sometime now and have been using a hanging heavy bag. But now I want a little more of kickboxing, so I need a standing bag. But I cant find one here. My "Instructables mind" kicked in and I decided to make my own. I also though of adding a pull bar to it. As in the photo, The black line is the bag stand, and the red one shows the pull up bar. I decided the wall and stand to be 5 feet apart. I may get something up but I thought of getting some professional advice before plunging in. Initially, I planed on digging a hole(about a foot deep) and then using mortar to make a properly round hole so the pole could just slide in whenever I want to use(coz it cant be permanent). And for the pull up bar I could drill a hole in the stand and push the pipe through it and attach a threaded pipe flange to the wall. Should I use pipe or wood. I prefer wood cause its easy to find. People around here have shifted to PVC, so I cant get the pipe from the general sanitary store next door. But I would somehow find it. I need functionality right now. Also if I use the pipe, would filling it up with concrete or mortar strengthen it??? So that's my idea. Any advice is welcome. I need something quick cause I plan to get it done the day after tomorrow.

Ottobock Kimba iPad Stand

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for an iPad stand issue in response to the following request: My daughter Talie uses an iPad daily both at school for educational purpases and at home to keep her occupied during g-tube feedings. Right now her iPad sits on the tray of her wheelchair (Ottobock Kimba) and she bends over it as she prefers to use her lip and nose causing her neck and back pain. We would love to have a stand that would hold her iPad at face level so she can use it without bending over. Or alternatively, an adapted stylus that can be attached to her nose or chin. All of the commercial stands we have seen would not be stable enough for her use. She has very high tone and her movements are rapid and jerky. She needs something that would allow her to tap the screen without the iPad moving or falling over. Her OT at school fabricated a mouth stick for her but she gets tired of holding it in her mouth and when she puts it down to talk she cannot retrieve it. Headpieces with stylus' are much too big for her little head. Happy to hear your ideas! Custom Fish tank stand

I am creating a custom fish tank stand from 2x4s and sheet wood. I plan to paint it black but I ran into 2 problems when I decided I didn't want the hood that came with the tank. 1) The lighting.     I have a pretty good history with LEDs so creating the lighting will not be too hard, only real issue I run into is sealing the lamp. I plan to use an acrylic sheet with holes drilled for the white and blue LEDs. White for day and a row of blue for moonlight on a 3 way rocker. I just dont want water to penetrate the holes from the ports for the light to damage the components. 2) The filter.    This is where I am at a loss. I plan on making something similar to this: http://tinyurl.com/fishtankdesign But I have no idea how to an external filter rather than one of the regular table top aquarium ones that would not look very pleasing on a nice stand. Any ideas questions comments or concerns please ask.

Standing Desks in US Schools

A few schools in Minnesota are experimenting with standing desks in schools. Instead of the typical cramped desk that kids fidget at, these desks are much higher so that kids stand while using them. There's also a swinging footrest to put one foot. The advantages touted are: - More activity for kids, making them more attentive, less fidgety, and more awake - Teachers don't have to bend way down to help studentsRight now it's all an experiment with the kids being studied to see how well they respond to it. To be honest, I'm curious about trying this out as well. Eric uses a stand-up desk at home, but I'd be willing to experiment with a stand-up desk for all-day use. Has anyone else tried this? Link

How to fix this cake stand?

Hi everyone! I bought this cake stand off ebay to use for our wedding cake. It's made of some kind of thin metal. The problem is that the upper plate seems wobbly where it attaches to the pedestal underneath. At this point I'd worry about whether it would be sturdy enough to support a 3 tier cake. I'm wondering if there's a way to re-enforce the seam between the pedestal and the plate to give it more stability? You can see the seam right below the "bowl" part of the upper plate. Would something like epoxy putty work? I'd like to avoid taking the whole thing apart if possible. (Don't mind the weird orange green colouring - I plan to spray paint the whole stand). Any advice or input would be great!

Big Band Music Stands

I am the leader of a 17 Piece Big Band. Just like Glenn Miller or Harry James, I need to find a way to make some inexpensive but deco looking music stands. In the old days, they used to make them in all types, sizes and styles. Today, they have one kind. I would like to find a way to make some myself that can fold up and be transported fairly easily. If you have an idea of how to do this, I would love to hear from you. Please feel free to email me if you have questions. The stand should be in two parts, the base and the shelf. The shelf should sit on the base. The shelf should also have a lip for the music to sit on without sliding off. The total height of the back of the stand should be 36". The height of the front of the stand, where the music sits, should be approx 29". The width of the top portion, the part that holds the music, should be 22". The lip should be 3 to 31/2 inches. The base will vary depending on style and shape. I look forward to anyone who thinks they have a way to make these. They need to be strong enough not to blow away in wind, yet easy to fold and carry. After all, I will be moving 17 of them each time I perform. As far as the style, well, the more art deco looking the better. If I could have anything I wanted without the worry of cost, I would choose stands that looked like the front of a car from the 1930's and 40's. It would look as though it had a grill in front along with the large round lights, perhaps a cap on the radiator, large wide fenders and whitewall looking tires on the side. Now, that is just my if I could have anything idea. reality says a simple square or perhaps v shaped stand. Solid colored, perhaps made from corrugated plastic. Thanks for looking and giving this some thought. Blessings! Ashley ideas@mrlivemusic.com

What does osi stand for? Answered

As in, "a 16 osi blower delivers 400 cfm of air through a piping system..." I know that cfm is a way of writing cubic feet per minute. PSI is pounds per square inch. Building systems to move gases and liquids around safely has really had me stumped till now, especially when dealing with HVAC. I'm not familiar with some of these units.

Wine Stand that is a Balancing Act

Does anyone know how to construct this balancing piece of wood that holds a bottle of wine. I hate to spend over $20 for a 50 cent piece of wood that I could make at home.I appreciate your help, and I just know there are a few of folks that are mechanically inclined that can solve this...Thank you!http://store.komando.com/p-244-wooden-bottle-balances.aspx?utm_source=l&utm;_medium=email&utm;_content=bottle_balances&utm;_campaign=topBalancing ActCoolest way to store a bottle of wineIs this magic? No, it's a little science. The weight of the bottle shifts the center of gravity that makes the wine appear to be suspended in mid-air.You'll get loads of comments, smiles and laughs! These positive reactions make these wine bottle balances a perfect gift! After all, Ben Franklin said, "Wine is constant proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy."Made of solid wood.

What do I need to make laptop stand cooler?

I would like to make my own custom laptop stand cooler with fan (6 fan) of 8 or 9cm The reason why I need it that many is because my laptop gets overheat quickly & sometimes it shuts down by itself. Ps: I would like to connect the fans to wallplug with adapter or usb wall plug adapter. 1. I would like to know what do I need besides 6 fan, mdf / acrilyc for the stand, adapter, usb cable? 2. For this project, which fan is the best for me, 2 pins, 3 pins or 4 pins? 3. Moreover, which voltage should I have a look and which 1 is better: high rpm or cfm flow? Thanks Edit 1: Sorry as Im complitely blind with electricity, I will have to ask lots of questions. Hp already acknowledge the problem but cannot do anything with the overheating other than suggesting using external fan & at this moment im using deskfan to blow the exhaust hole of the laptop. So this is for example the fan that I found on eBay Voltage, 12V. Voltage range, 6 to 13.8V. Current, 0.20Amps. Speed, 4500RPM at rated voltage and zero pressure. Flow (max), 67CFM. Pressure Rise (Max), 0.3inH2O. Thanks again for all the answer Edit 2: To make it easy, this is my question 1. Id like to put 5 fans with above spec, does that mean I need power adaptor that can handle 1A (5x0.20A) ? 2. Would it be better if I use power adaptor 2000mA or better to stick with 1000mA ? 3. Im planning to use dc connector head (see pict) but I only see 2 cable holes. If the fan has 3 or 4 cables, which cable should be put in the minus hole and which one in the plus hole, and what to do with the rest of the cable(s) ? 4. Would this power adaptor perfect for my project? Sorry again with this dummy questions, but like I said Im complitely blind with electricity. Thanks for all the answer

bbq stand for webber portable gas?

I bought one of these portable webber bbqs A while ago and have been getting tired of using it hunched over on the ground.  I have been looking around for some simple BBQ stand or BBQ cart plans online but most of the ones I found were a bit more complicated than I think i can handle.  I've never built anything before (no garage = no workspace), but now I've got a garage and an itch to fix a problem. I looked through the site and searched and couldn't quite find anything that would fit what I need.  Any suggestions? And yes, I know I could just set it on a table outside.

esp8266 WiFi module - stand alone?

So I've been looking at this esp8266 wifi module, which seems to be a popular toy for Arduino users.  I myself am one of those Arduino users and so I bought a couple of these to play around with.  So far they work great with the Arduino, but I read somewhere, I think it was make.com, that these modules can actually be programmed to be used without the Arduino or other external microcontrollers.  I simply wondered if this was in fact true, since I can't seem to find any evidence of it being done.  If it is true, does anyone know of any good tutorials or instructions on how to do it?  I just want to be able to turn on and off a single LED via wifi without using an Arduino or other external microcontroller.  Any tips, links, suggestions would be very welcome.   Thanks ~Dudes
