Static Sound On Electric Acoustic?

I have a rather old guitar (ibanez jx70tbs1301) and i have connected it to a computer via 4 inch to 3.5 adapter to record in audacity. I get a static sound and if i touch the right side of the pickup or press on a key on a key board it gets louder or annoying. I tried dryer sheets. Im confused. Would it be the patch cord?

Electric Bass

Hello, I have an electric bass .. I broke the two wires that is connected to the battery connector a couple of months ago.. I had it professionally soldered. All of a sudden, today, it started to static every time I played a string.  I switched amps to make sure isn't wasn't any of amps. But it started to static on every one.. Could it be that the battery is going dead??? Please help!!!!! I have a gig this weekend!!

How to make a static electricity discharge pad? Answered

Is there an expensive way to make an electrostatic discharge pad that I can simply touch before working on my laptop? I discharge myself by touching the screw on a lightswitch plate upon entering my office, but there is always more static that builds as I walk across the carpet to my laptop. My laptop has hung a couple of times because of this and I'm afraid I'm going to fry something for good one of these days.

Statics Problem Help? Answered

I need help with this statics question, because it seems easy enough but I know I am not doing something correctly.  Look at the picture and use it along with the question, which says; Four forces and a couple act on the beam. The vector sum of the forces is zero, and the sum of the moments about the left end of the beam is zero. What are the forces Ax, Ay, and B? Ax is of no importance, it can be anything because it does not affect the moment because it line of action intersects the point of rotation, so i don't care about it.  So it would seem to me that the 800N force multiplied by the 4m, gives 3200Nm plus the 200Nm from the couple makes 3400Nm, and since it has to be counteracted by B, it would be divided by 7m which equals 485.7Nm.  But what is Ay?  It seems to me it can be anything, as long as B is adjusted accordingly to account for it, but I think I need an actual value. Is Ay suppose to be part of the couple, because if it is it would have a value of 25N which would factor into the 800N because that force lies on the same place where the other portion of the couple would be.  So would 25N be Ay because it says in the question that 4 forces (800N, Ax, Ay, B) AND A COUPLE, which it makes me think that Ay isn't part of the couple?

Storing Lightning Energy? Answered

Hey Guys, I have wondered on this from a long time. Can lightning energy be stored? Lightning occurs when water droplets rub together right? Which means this is static electricity. As lightning strike the highest point why dont they make a huge conductive bar? And as i know from the various lyden jar projects storing static isnt that difficult. So why dont they do it? I asked my dad  that how much is it per lightning strike he said millions of kilovolts if that is true then why dont they store it? My dad said that its because they cant store that much electricity. Is that the only reason? BTW I'm 12 so please ignore my dumb electric knowledge :).

How to remove static electricity from plastic surface?

I've put PlexiGlas (acrylic plastic, I think) in my roof in my bathroom. The surface is high- gloss black and should look great. However, these sheets are huge and there is a protective film on the surface which has to be removed and when I do that, the plastic will be loaded with static electricity, which will gather dust. (When I removed the protective film on the back side of the plastic, I saw this result and it isn't good. Is there a way to eliminate/reduce the static electricity before/during/after I remove the protective film? -Because of the black surface, I'm afraid that waterstains and cleaning- solvents might leave stripes/spots that won't look good...

annoying static discharge problem

I really like these liquid vitamins, but every other bottle I get gives me a long series of random painful electric shocks when I try to open it! You can't hear it, but in the video when I get near the bottle with the probe a snapping sound can be heard. The shocks are seemingly random and some went as high as 500mv. I didn't catch the first shock, which was the worst, from the first time I tried to open the bottle. I tried grounding the bottle, but nothing seems to help. Thanks for any suggestions

Need Science Help. Is this safe?

On my ongoing quest to find a science fair, I stumbled upon this : it's basicalle a high voltage motor that acts like a bell, with a clapper that bangs from one can (or bell) to the other and back again.The thing is, it get's it energy by putting an aluminum foil over a TV screen, which has a lot of static electricity.I was wondering, is this safe?

What is an easy to find material that I can use for my Van de Graaff generator belt? I'm making one for a science fair project. I tried using pantyhose, but I can't get it to turn right because it keeps going to one side of the top roller and getting stuck. I'm thinking I need something wider.

Can anyone point me to the experiment that used the earth itself as a capacitor?

I only briefly read it. Using cardboard and foil you could create large amounts of static electricity using a principle Tesla found that used the earth itself as a capacitor. Could anyone point me in the right direction as to where these instruction are?

How much electricity is dangerous?

I found plans to make a device to give yourself a static charge using a negative ion generator. It outputs 7.5 kV and 10 mA. I've seen it in use and I know it's not dangerous. I wanted to build two of them together making it output 15 kV. Unfortunately that would also make it 20 mA. I'm not sure what the resistance of the human body is so I guess my question is will 15 kV and 20 mA flowing through a person be dangerous? What can I do to prevent lightning damage with this device?

             I'm planning on building the device specified here:  http://www.eham.net/articles/9272 I want to place it about thirty-forty feet above the ground, between two large trees.  This would be above the power lines in my area, and also above most everything else besides the trees themselves.  This seems to pose a significant risk of having lightning strike it.  I don't want to have to put it up and take it down every time there is a storm (nor am I always here when there is one).  Is there any way to make this safe from a lightning strike?  P.S.  I know this works--one of my friends works for Honeywell and, when asked whether or not this was true, he explained that they have had conferences, lectures, etc. about the problem of static buildup on power lines.  My line length would be around 200-300 feet long, which is certainly not anywhere near the miles that many HV hydroelectric lines in my area run for, but it is still quite long.

Anti Gravity Idea...

OK I had this idea. I was online and thought up this idea for an anti gravity machine. This is it: use extremely static negatively charged materials for anti gravity. It could work the same way lightning clouds do. The base of the cloud is negatively charged and the ground become positively charged. Now if the material of the anti gravity "thing" is charged with static electricity, wouldn't it repel the ground? Now I am by far no expert in any of this...I just thought it up. What do you guys think?

How can I eliminate static electricity when spray-painting on acrylic sheet plastic? Answered

Hi, I'm trying to spray-paint one side of a sheet of acrylic (plexiglass) and it all goes fairly well except that I can't get the colour to go on evenly. The sprayed paint seems to dance before landing on the sheet in funny patterns. I'm guessing it has to do with static electricity. Does anyone know how I can reduce it, eliminate it or make it work in my favour?

SHOCKING NEWS! How can I stop getting shocked from static electricity? Answered

So I recently bought a scooter whose brake works by pressing aluminum on the tire. How can I stop this? I was thinking of covering the brake, where I press with my shoe with some type of ESD safe material. Could this work, cheaply? An ESD safe mat, glove, electronic component bag? what does the ball and magnet at the top of most leydon jars do?

I have my own leydon are and it isn't very big but I make huge shocks by charging it will my wool blanket. I tested ways to make it stronger and used a spring coiled which made it absorb more electricity and allowed me to shock people with a steady current without them touching the positive. I head something about the ball and magnet and I wanted to know what it is all about and how it makes it stronger or if it makes it collect static better or what plz answer.

Using an electric shock to trigger an arduino. (doorknob variety)

I was thinking a transistor, how does one make ~20000v at 5mA useful. Do I use a capacitor or a coil of some type? Do I NEED an amp? Will it be jittery? I was even looking at those alfoil leaf static detectors and imagining some sort of field detecting reed switch.. ? Think frankenstiens lab: lightning=reaction :)

Anyone here ever get samples from maxim? Recently they now send them in cool little boxes that says maxim and attention electrostatic sensitive devices. I want to get rid of the maxim logo and just keep the static warning so that I can have a cool clear project box that tells people that if they open it that they should be careful because of the static electricity. The text feels slightly raised to the touch. I do NOT want to scratch up the box. BTW, small question, anyone ever have trouble adding notes to pictures? Whenever I create an instructable I have to add it in preview mode, but once in a while I can do it in edit mode. For example I had to post this topic and edit it to add notes to the picture.

What will be the effect of series connection of two fans on static pressure of air? Answered

I have bought two similar  axial fan blades similar in each respect pitch,size,material,angle of attack etc below is the image.I have a powerful 300W electric motor.I want to attach{weld} both of these blades with the shaft of the same motor in series one above the another on the same motor shaft this would ensure that both the blades rotate with same RPM ,of course they would be separated by some distance i know that series connection of fans would increase the static pressure of air,but what confuses me a lot is that how the guide vanes{wings} of both the blades be aligned with respect to each other for maximum static pressure should the wings of both the blades synchronize with each other i-e clocked at the same rate or should they be at different positions with respect to each other.I have searched every forum but nothing fould.You people are my last hope.

Coilgun, Mosfet problem and joules?

I have two questions: when a mosfet is damaged, it conducts electricity without putting energy to the gate? I have the 75N75 mosfet and I want to use it on the rwilsford07 boost converter, but the mosfet didn't work and I don't know why it conducts energy without putting energy to the gate. I read that the mosfet can be damaged with static electricity, but I use always an anti-static wrap. The formula to get the joules from a coilgun is this?: 0.000005 * C * V * V C= uf V= voltage

If you own a cat pet it a few times without touching it's ears or nose, then touch there ear or nose, you shock them! Are there nose or ears not attached or something, because you making the charge with the cat.

Orange pipe? what is it made of?

Increase V.Leap

I was think of injecting plastic sponge filled with water as the sole of a basketball shoe, hoping the water pressure could help to increase the leg power and increase the vertical leap. Meaning : using plastic sponge Or rather i think of another alternative,which is to use static electricity to store inside the shoe,which later will transfer from the shoe to the leg of human, and hopefully increase the vertical leap.

I thought this might work because the hair keeps sticking to stuff because of static electricity. If you put a charge in the generator, then rubbed the cat on it, would the hair stick to it? Then when you turned it off would the hair fall off?

help with roller! need help asap

I built a vdg and it works. but since the top roller is AL all it does is produce static electricity until it sparks to the AL on the roller. instead of going to the dome. i have to present it at science fair so i need another roller. i was thinking nylon. so i bought a bed frame roller wheel. but i dont know if it is nylon. so does anyone know if there is any thing i could use that would be at hardware stores or any stores?

Micro High Voltage

I'm going to attempt to make a super micro tesla coil that is 100% contained (unless it runs off of like 12 volts dc, then I'll use a wallwart). Of course, one of the i biggest problem is the power supply. So this is what I'm asking, what's the best way of ramping up the voltage? A tiny toroid transformer? An inductor that gets pulsed? Voltage Multiplier? Something with static electricity? Some type of Inverter? Using Greinacher Cascades? A marx generator hybrid? Other stuff I havn't heard of?

LCD screen works from touch?

I was taking apart a small department store card reader and as i was doing so i noticed that the LCD screen would kinda  work from my fingers touching it.  Some parts of numbers and indicators glowed as I ran my fingers across it.  Is this from static electricity is my hands?  Or just residual power in the display.   All wires were removed from it so no capacitors to power it or anything.  I did notice that the silicon-rubber-carbon? thing on the top and bottom of it were attached.  Can someone with a knowledge of how these displays work please explain this phenomenon.

How to charge a 2 liter pop bottle leyden jar with a DC power supply?

Okay. So I am having some difficulty with somthing that should be simple. Leyden jars. I know that you can charge them using static electricity, but I need to know exactly how many volts are being pumped into this thing for a physics project. Because of this necessary knowledge I require, I have been trying to charge it by connecting pos and neg to it but that does nothing..... Any help how I would be able to do this would be great. Help with LM741 op-amp? Answered

Just to test it out, I hooked up a voltage follower with a LM741 Op-amp. But, when I measure the voltages, it doesn't work. When I have problems with such simple circuits, it makes me want to kick a small animal. Please, save the small animals, help me with my circuit. When I measure Vout, I expected something somewhere around 7-8 volts, but I'm actually getting 13-14 volts. I also tried changing the resistors in the voltage divider, but the output did not change. I'm getting my power from an unregulated 12v 1A wall transformer, but I measured it at around 15v unloaded. I replaced the chip once to rule out static electricity as the problem, and I got an output 0.1 volt higher. Any ideas?
