HOW IS THIS MANUFACTURED ? Answered

This is a 3" cabinet pull. It caught my eye as a super steam punk component. Just imagine it with two LEDs inside the cage. Anyway how is it made ? That unit is magnetic, has 8/32 cabinet threads, solid otherwise and the cage appears 3/4 rotated This object would be perfect for 3-D printing.

Abney Park: (The semi-steampunk/weird genre of music group) :D

Abney Park comes from an era that never was, but one that we wish had been. An era where airships waged war in the skies, and corsets and cummerbunds were proper adventuring attire. They've picked up their bad musical habits, scoundrelous musicians, and anachronistically hybridized instruments from dozens of locations and eras that they have visited in their travels and thrown them into one riotous dervish of a performance. Expect clockwork guitars, belly dancers, flintlock bassists, middleastern percussion, violent violin, and Tesla powered keyboards blazing in a post- apocalyptic, swashbuckling, Steampunk musical mayhem. - quote from they're myspace page Band WebsiteBand Myspace

Great Exhibition 2010

The Great Exhibition of 2010 was held at London's La Scala nightclub, with over a thousand costumed attendees. Have a look at the BBC video which won't embed - lots of the stuff we are familiar with through such luminaries as gmjhowe, but other, less traditional imagery as well, especially in some of the costumes. There is also a slideshow here My favourites are the actually-steam-powered piano, and the the thunderbuss.

Anyone have blueprints or designs for a practical, full-size steam engine ?

A groups of friends and I (15 years old) are looking to re-create a steam engine to power a survey (we're thinking something along the lines of a steam-punk carriage powered by this steam engine)  we are designing. It does not have to be fast or very complex, just something to propel our vehicle forward. It must, though, be large enough to push at least three hundred pounds and operate for a good amount of time without needing to be refueled or tended to. After searching Instructables, I have found a ton of good steam engines, but they're all mini or meant for demonstrations. We need plans or ideas for a real, full-scale, functioning engine. Any advice, plans, or ideas someone has would be greatly appreciated!!!! Thank you all for your help, Carlinc

Steampunk weaponry

Just to discuss all things related to steampunk weaponry (actually I am after some design insight) I'm building a steampunk longgun(micro-sniper) and It will shoot stuff, unlike all the other steampunk guns I can find here. It will be a functional piece, except not utilizing gunpowder ammunition. Anything relating to homebrew loading mechanisms, coils, design, etc would be awesome.

BBC plays steampunk band's wax record with fuse wire and mint tin.

Steampunk band The men That Will Not be Blamed for Nothing have released a new single. On wax. The BBC heard about this, and built a machine to play it.  For techies, their build is not exactly... good. The cylinder was recorded by Poppy Records with a mixture of digital computer techno-wizardry and a machine cobbled together from a video recorder and old arcade games. Played on a properly-built machine, the recordings are surprisingly pleasant to listen to.

I'm not a huge fan of steampunk, with the exception of Lady Clankington ;-), simply because much, nay most of it, exists just as a prop, not a a functional object.  So when I ran across this beautiful rifle, I just had to share. Threaded Brass Inserts, 6-32, Sonic Weld, Press or Solder.

Add threads to new projects as well as modify or repair existing products. If the plastic you are using can be melted with a soldering iron you can place the insert on the part you want to add threads to. Then heat the insert with a soldering iron and press in to the part as the insert melts the plastic. Try with and without pilot hole. Excess plastic can be cleaned up with a dremel tool. You can also try soldering the inserts to the surface of metals that can be soldered such as copper and brass. Add these as threaded standoffs by soldering to bare copper on you circuit boards. Just the right color for steam punk projects. This part can be pressed into some materials with the right size pilot hole. Get them here: 50 pieces for $9.00. I want to Etch clear through Brass on a table-top Answered

I want to make some fake gears and such to decorate steam punk and sci-fi stuff.  I'd like to take brass or copper and etch clear through, and have a "clean" edge.  Sharp I don't really want. I need to transfer an image from a computer-drawn source.  Heat transfer with toner I know, etching, well, not so much.    I'd also like to do this on my kitchen table.

Need to know the part I am looking for

I am planning another project. It will be a somewhat Portable Steam Punk Balance ( Scale ) . The idea is only one arm is to be exposed the other will be shorter and I want to attach it to ( PART? - I was going to say actuator but probably not the right part ) I want something that measures the distance it moves so it can be scaled to what the weight is. I want to hook this up to an Arduino to to the scaling and then output it to a display. The part will be hidden so looks are not important , I just want to know what is the name of that part and any sources would be greatly appreciated. TIA for those that help. Gunther45

Amazing LEGO Crawler Town

A solar array, grandstands, aircraft runway, elevator, and an assortment of support vehicles, this epic LEGO creation has it all! Flickr user DeGobbi has created a rolling city out of LEGO blocks and what must have been months of hard work. There's even a back-story to go along with the epic build: "Crawler town roams the barren wastes of a post steam-punk world after cataclysmic climate change do to excessive coal use. Several such cities exist but Crawler town is the most popular due to the Aero 500 hydrogen fuel cell Air races that are held." Yup, looks like he's thought of everything with this build, there's even a place to grab a beer! There are plenty of close ups of the entire project and all the details, you can check them out here.

DIY mini Heater for vaporizer ? Answered

Hello, I am building a Vaporizer in Steam Punk style! It has now become a rather advanced project... And I want to include a little heater instead of using a Lighter to Evaporate the oils in the Weed. It is really hard to find a tiny battery driven heater... I found this one:  http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/486719295/ceramic_heater.html But I would have to order 2000 -_- Not really an option. The best solution so far was on this site actually.. https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-battery-powered-soldering-iron/ Just not sure it has the right length for my design.. I would prefer a Flat Heating element and then the Weed is placed inside a small Iron Box on Top. Also, I dunno about the hazards of that soldering iron. Any ideas? A Wire and a battery and resistance? Edit: Also found something like this: http://www.conrad.de/ce/de/overview/0506030/Heizelemente;jsessionid=DB600645BCB22DBD20445E3E530EB879.ASTPCCP9

Looking for input on a TARDIS console bar

My boyfriend and I want to have a Who-themed room party at a sci-fi/linux convention in our area.  We've bounced around the idea of having a TARDIS console bar set up in a corner of the room, so I'd really appreciate ideas for the console that could easily be set up and broken down, as this is  going in a room we only have for a weekend. Ideas for random gadgets and doo-hickeys, places to have alcohol and the like would be greatly appreciated as well.  So far we know we want to have a quarter or half keg in the center of the console, located behind us. Leaning towards 10th's design, but might be willing to go for the 11th's more steam punk look. Also, decorating tips for the room as a whole would be good.  So for we want to make roundels out of foam and stick them to the wall with tack to imitate the 10ths 'desktop theme' and to print a door sized TARDIS door to tack to the door to the hotel room. The idea behind the party is that the hotel room and the TARDIS have merged, ala Time Crash.

Kiteman Joins In!

My skills include: making stuff.  Have a look at my ibles, you'll get the idea. What I'd like to make for someone: I don't really mind.  Maybe re-create one of my more snail-mail-friendly projects?  Maybe the recipient would like to suggest a variation, or even something for a new ible? I'd be willing to make this size gift package for someone (choose all that apply): (S, very S - the project I have planned is super-cheap) I'd be willing to receive a smaller or larger size gift package from someone than the one I make for someone else: I guess so, I'm not really fussed.  What I like: stuff.  Science, beer, odd stuff, steam punk, surprises. What I don't like: Pink stuff, excessive bling and rice pudding. I absolutely can't have: (due to allergies, pets, etc) Fish, stress, country & western music. Type of thing I'd love to receive: A surprise. Would you be willing to ship to an address outside your own country? Yes. Confirm that are at least 18 years old or, if not, that you have the approval of a parent or guardian: Oh, well over 18.
