Limit to words on step-by-step

I've got to a certain point on my instructable (I've come back after a day) and when I typed up another paragraph and saved it, the text had disappeared? And no matter how much I typed it up and saved it again and again (my instructable is now published) the text doesn't seem to appear. Anyone else got this? My instructable is also a competition entry which is a problem!

Step Numbering

Is there a way to change the step numbering?  Right now, Instructables automatically gives me "Step 1.00", "Step 2.00", etc.  But what if I wanted to add "Step 2.20"? Is there a way to do this?  Thanks.

Differences between the Step-by-Step and All-Steps webpages

I recently made changes to the first step in my Instructable and I've noticed that over the past few hours the page showing all of the steps has been updated while the page showing only the first step has not.  By not updating I mean that the content update has not taken affect, the number of views is less than is shown on the other page, new comments haven't been added, the number of followers and favorites shown is less, etc.. Only the first page appears to be affected, though.  So, everything looks correct for: https://www.instructables.com/id/Awesome-Console-Cable-Bracelet/?ALLSTEPS and https://www.instructables.com/id/Awesome-Console-Cable-Bracelet/step2/Preparing-the-RJ-45-connector/ but not for: https://www.instructables.com/id/Awesome-Console-Cable-Bracelet/#step1 Some other info: - occurs whether logged in or not - reproduced on Chrome 31.0.1650.63 m, Firefox 13.0, and Opera 12.16 (All running on Windows 7) - doesn't appear to be due to browser caching Let me know if there is any other info I can provide. Thanks!

I miss the thumbnail step-by-steps

I just want to grip how I miss the pop out thumbnails that used to be at the top of the page. I really don't like clicking over and over with next or view all just to see the video or finished "toy" on the last step.

Embedding videos in Step by Step Instructable.

Less than a month ago, I wrote my first instructable, and was able to embed a 10 sec. youtube video into my instructable. Since then, I have not been able to embed such videos because the embed button is no longer there.    The instructions for step-by-step tell you how to do it, but the embed button is not there.  Where did it go and when can I expect it back?  I think these little video's add something to my Instructable and I miss them.

STEP File Import

After reviewing my latest posting, I noticed that I was able to zoom and rotate the STEP files included with the graphics.  Dumb question - has the STEP file viewer always been included on Instructables or is this a relatively new feature?  Anyway, it's a nice feature for people that want a better understanding of the part.

Can't delete steps

I'm working on updating some of my instructables, (https://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-Cockroach-20/) (https://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-USB-Charger-20-21/) and one of the things I'm doing is removing some of the steps. In Chrome, in the editor I click the X to delete a step, and confirm that I am sure, and it pulls up a "Confirm Navigation" dialogue from Chrome which says "You have pending form responses. These form responses will not be saved if you leave this page. Are you sure you want to leave this page?" and I can click stay or leave. If I stay it will pull up a dialogue from Instructables saying "We hit an unexpected Problem. If this problem persists, please contact us about what happened." So here we are. The same thing happens in Safari, but the first dialogue is "From 'docs.google.com" instead of "Confirm Navigation" I sent a message to service@instructables.com a month ago and have heard nothing back. Does anyone know what's going on?

Create A Step Bookmark For A Hyperlink?

Can I create a bookmark pointing to a particular step in one Instructable, and hyperlink to it from another Instructable?  Scenario: Instructable "A" has a step whose image and info would also serve in another Instructable, "B". Can I link to "A" step while still remaining in "B". Kinda like the old "call" command used in dos batch files.  Thank you!

Feature request - copy step.

Could you add the ability to copy a step from one instructable to another? For instance, I do a lot of work with the ATtiny chips. Each instructable has the same instructions telling how to load the chip definitions into the Arduino IDE and program the chip. Without this the instructable would be incomplete, and it is a lot of work to copy it every time. Thank you JRV31

Is there an easy way to turn a photo 'ible into a step by step 'ible?

Hi folks. I have made some alterations & additions to my workshop I want to add either to my "My Little Workshop/Utility Room/Cathouse." 'ible or my "Using recycled or salvaged timber" 'ible, possibly both.  Is there an easy way to change it from a photo 'ible to a step by step? I did want to add it in last night but life got in the way as usual & by the time I got started it was quite late & to tell the truth I was too tired to really search around the options, I thought I would try to save a bit of time & ask here before I try again this evening.

NOO! My step got deleted!

I was editing my instructable, and I DO like the new features (re-order steps, save now, etc.), BUT - I was getting rid of a step I had just added in (it was nearly blank) because I realized I didn't need it, and instead of removing THAT step, it removed the one BEFORE it. I spent probably an HOUR on the step before it. I may want to add this instructable into a contest in the future, but I DON'T want to have to re-make that step! :( Is there a way to get it back? This bug needs to be fixed; I'm sure I selected the right step!

New "all steps" summary redundant?

There's a new "summary of all steps" added to the end of the intro step of each instructable. Maybe it's just me, but isn't it a bit overkill, with the already existing thumbnail previews? OK, maybe my 25-step instructable is unusual...

No provision on my instructable to add a step!

I have posted a new instructable, but when I went into edit mode, to add a new step, there is no provision for doing so: Here's my instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-Quickly-Field-Estimate-the-Weight-of-a-Stan/ I tried using Internet Explorer 8, Opera 12, and Mozilla Firefox 23, but to no avail. This is the first time this has ever happened with one of my instructables. And please, don't hesitate to be verbose with your answer, as others on this forum have posted the same problem, and the posted answers are not helpful at all. For example, others have answered "... click the add step button..." when the post indicated there was no add step button, or "... maybe the instructable was not set up as a step-by-step instructable" and simply left the problem still hanging there.  Hey guys, these are not complete, problem resolving answers. And problem repetition (with lack of suitable answers) does clutter up our help section. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, shastalore

international characters for "Steps"

The rich editor 'comment box' and 'Instructables editor' is able to handle international characters, such as: é, ê, ç, ¿, ñ (possibly others), however the "Title this Step" in an Instructable does not reflect the same editing perimeters. Instead, displays "" (displays as black diamond with white question mark). This also happens with the yellow description box overlays. This may be user error, but seems weird that I can see certain text in one field but not another. FF v3.6.12 ?? _mike

Step down transformer

Hi I would like to build my own power supply. i am a noob at electronics but hopefully this project will improve my skills... http://electronics-lab.com/projects/power/001/index.html This is what I want to build The problem I am not sure on is the 1st initial step of the step down transformer. I have only found a 24 volts 4.16 amps with 100va. I want to keep the project as exact as possible and was currious whether if the current rating is higher than 3 amps for that particular circuit I want to build can it blow any of the circuitry. The transformer I found was 24 volts 100 va and has an output current of 4.16 amps. Is that a problem or will it only draw as much current as needed?

The All Steps dilemma...

So the reason i became a member of ibles was to get allsteps, only after signing up did i discover the amazing community we have here !I visited the site fairly frequently before signing up and i just clicked through the steps which was highly frustrating.Have i got this right ?No membership = NO allstepsfree membership = allsteps if you click the box on the instructablePro membership = Allways allstepsif that is right then speaking from experience, i have to disagree, i think the free-membership level should get allsteps preference, that way they can become a member, easily view the whole instructable and then when they realize how utterly awesome instructables is they can sign up for pro.If i had arrived at ibles today and signed up for a free account because i liked it, i would have seen the pro option and thought "ill see what they have to offer first" and then when i tried to look at an instructable i had to continually click allsteps or even worse click through all the steps, i fear i may have lost instructables in the depths of my bookmarks folder. Now i love instructable's i have many friends and lots of fun, and i totally agree with the pro accounts. I just worry that without allsteps preference, the free-members will be dissuaded to stick around and eventually sign up to pro..p.s. im not great at writing long things so just try to get the gist of what im saying :)p.p.s. pic unrelated..

New I'ble single-step URLs are broken for steps 10 and later

As Jamalam posted this morning, a new bug was introduced with the overnight feature rollout.  For published Instructables, the individual steps now have human-readable URLs of the form "https://www.instructables.com//step##//" (e.g., "https://www.instructables.com/id/Modified_Crib_for_Parent_with_Disability/step15/Attach-the-End-panel-Moulding/").  This is really nice. Unfortunately, the server-side code which generates these URLs is buggy.  For two-digit steps (step10 and higher), the URL does not resolve correctly, reverting back to the intro step.  You'll see this if you follow the link above.
