Is there a way to change the step numbering? Right now, Instructables automatically gives me "Step 1.00", "Step 2.00", etc. But what if I wanted to add "Step 2.20"? Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

Another editor bug. I have been preparing a thirteen-step instructable. While I worked on the images on the introduction & step 2, all the text vanished from step 10, even though I hadn't touched it. When I re-typed step 10 and saved the project, step seven (a long step!) also vanished. @staff who read this, it's the project I mentioned on CT.

Okay, so I've been trying to complete this instructable but everytime I try to click "save and preview", it keeps going back to the "edit" and doesen't save the step. Even though I've also put a title to the step it still says "This is a required field". What should I do?

Steps down a slope so that we don't have to cut grass there, and also we have a tendency to slide down it!!! this area is near our back porch is flat for app. 4 feet then drops about 6foot over another 8-10 foot area. want to do this cheap but looks nice. we have 6-8 concrete pavers now and several smaller pavers

I've enjoyed instructables for a LONG time now and have endured the annoyance that it is to have to sign in to view all steps on one page... Now that that's gone for non premium users I'm frankly annoyed. Why are you guys trying to FORCE me into buying a bloody membership!? You guys sell plenty of advertisements to cover the costs on here please give us non-wealthy a chance to view all the steps on a single page. I'm beginning to think they should just set up a completely separate pro website for instructables and leave us poor bastards behind but at least give us the all steps on a single page. Really unfair move guys! Change it back!

I have been on instructables for a while and I have never had any problems, but recently, I cant access Allsteps i tried everything including typing the url myself. All that happens is that it takes me to the first step/introduction page, I would greatly appreciate it if Someone could help me solve this problem. Thanks, Matt

After reviewing my latest posting, I noticed that I was able to zoom and rotate the STEP files included with the graphics. Dumb question - has the STEP file viewer always been included on Instructables or is this a relatively new feature? Anyway, it's a nice feature for people that want a better understanding of the part.

The ''view all step'' on the bottom of each instructables doesn't work for me anymore, I need to click the one on the top of the page, but several time before it works…and sometimes it doesn't works soon so I just give up to see the complete instructable… It is just my computer or it happen to everybody?

I have made some concrete stepping stones (for decorative use in flower beds mainly) and have painted them to give them a detailed look. I used exterior paint, Now I'm wondering what I should use to seal them to protect the paint from chipping and fading?

The rich editor 'comment box' and 'Instructables editor' is able to handle international characters, such as: é, ê, ç, ¿, ñ (possibly others), however the "Title this Step" in an Instructable does not reflect the same editing perimeters. Instead, displays "" (displays as black diamond with white question mark). This also happens with the yellow description box overlays. This may be user error, but seems weird that I can see certain text in one field but not another. FF v3.6.12 ?? _mike

I'm working on updating some of my instructables, (https://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-Cockroach-20/) (https://www.instructables.com/id/Solar-USB-Charger-20-21/) and one of the things I'm doing is removing some of the steps. In Chrome, in the editor I click the X to delete a step, and confirm that I am sure, and it pulls up a "Confirm Navigation" dialogue from Chrome which says "You have pending form responses. These form responses will not be saved if you leave this page. Are you sure you want to leave this page?" and I can click stay or leave. If I stay it will pull up a dialogue from Instructables saying "We hit an unexpected Problem. If this problem persists, please contact us about what happened." So here we are. The same thing happens in Safari, but the first dialogue is "From 'docs.google.com" instead of "Confirm Navigation" I sent a message to firstname.lastname@example.org a month ago and have heard nothing back. Does anyone know what's going on?

Hi I would like to build my own power supply. i am a noob at electronics but hopefully this project will improve my skills... http://electronics-lab.com/projects/power/001/index.html This is what I want to build The problem I am not sure on is the 1st initial step of the step down transformer. I have only found a 24 volts 4.16 amps with 100va. I want to keep the project as exact as possible and was currious whether if the current rating is higher than 3 amps for that particular circuit I want to build can it blow any of the circuitry. The transformer I found was 24 volts 100 va and has an output current of 4.16 amps. Is that a problem or will it only draw as much current as needed?

So the reason i became a member of ibles was to get allsteps, only after signing up did i discover the amazing community we have here !I visited the site fairly frequently before signing up and i just clicked through the steps which was highly frustrating.Have i got this right ?No membership = NO allstepsfree membership = allsteps if you click the box on the instructablePro membership = Allways allstepsif that is right then speaking from experience, i have to disagree, i think the free-membership level should get allsteps preference, that way they can become a member, easily view the whole instructable and then when they realize how utterly awesome instructables is they can sign up for pro.If i had arrived at ibles today and signed up for a free account because i liked it, i would have seen the pro option and thought "ill see what they have to offer first" and then when i tried to look at an instructable i had to continually click allsteps or even worse click through all the steps, i fear i may have lost instructables in the depths of my bookmarks folder. Now i love instructable's i have many friends and lots of fun, and i totally agree with the pro accounts. I just worry that without allsteps preference, the free-members will be dissuaded to stick around and eventually sign up to pro..p.s. im not great at writing long things so just try to get the gist of what im saying :)p.p.s. pic unrelated..

Maybe this has a topic already, if so, I apologise! I think it must be new, having to register to see all steps. I don't like it! Annoying for when I'm at school and don't want to log in and just generally inconvenient. I think it might put new people off using instructables because registering just to see how to do a project is quite a turn-off. I know the service is free and I feel bad only ever making a contribution to complain! Instructables is a great site and one of my most visited, I really do love it! Anyway, just my thoughts.

Hi all! Resolved I'm working on an instructables ( https://www.instructables.com/id/EBS1PLAHV9HT7JU/ ) and I accidentally added a step. I would also like to switch steps 6 and step 7. How can I do that? Thanks! Also, if you have any general suggestions, please give them! Someone answered my question in the instructables IRC (Internet Relay Chat) - in the editor I hit view all steps, and there there are little xs to delete steps, and you can drag and drop the steps.

There were two fairly substantial (from the user's perspective) changes that Rachel forgot to mention in her Site Update post. First, by moving the search box and button up to the masthead, they have also eliminated the old-style "graphical search" interface completely. It doesn't even show up as an alternative when a Google-driven search is made. This has already led to two user complaints (here and here). Could the old-style interfce at least be put back on the search results page? UPDATE 17 Aug 2010: The "graphical search" link is back on the search-results page. Second, the interface when you first read an Instructable has been cleaned up substantially. All the steps, with photos and hover-text, are still there, but instead of a truncated table of contents (only the first ten steps), now the full intro and first step are shown immediately. It'll take a bit of getting use to for the old-timers, but I think it's a better interface for new users. Thanks to Rachel for getting these updates out, and especially for answering (pun intended) some of the requests from the community!

I am sure that I'm not the only one with these feelings about the changes in the site "permissions" concerning guests viewing instructables. I have been looking at this site (which I love, by the way), but something that's really, well, stuck in my craw, is the fact that guests cannot view all steps or view other pictures. What purpose does this accomplish? Are the admins trying to bolster the number of members? Just because a viewer doesn't have an account does not mean that he shouldn't be allowed to view all the pictures. I am also having trouble understanding why the admins don't allow guests to view all steps. The site hasn't always been like this. Not too long ago anyone could use most of the understandable viewing features. An excerpt from the Terms and Condidtions of Use (from section 7, subsection F, first sentence): " Instructables, in its sole and absolute discretion, may preserve Content and may also disclose Content if required to do so by law or judicial or governmental mandate or as reasonably determined useful by us to protect the rights, property or personal safety of Instructables, Instructables users and the public." (go look at the last three words again) I don't know about anyone else, but I think that not seeing all the pictures detracts from the educational viewing experience. If anyone has a good perspective on this, I'd love to hear why the site is like this.

I made a new step-by-step in instructable, and it seems to insist that it all belongs on one page. ( https://www.instructables.com/id/Non-Functional-Bazooka-Prop/ ) I wonder if, perhaps, this might be a recent problem because my sister recently made her first instructable here and it did the same thing to hers.
