Stop and Go

This is a pretty easy trick. I will tell you that it does not look cool, but it does come in handy. See, stop and go is a trick where the yo-yo literally stops, then starts sleeping again. This comes in handy if you are in a tournament and your yo-yo's sleep is about to die. First, get into a brain twister mount:Throw a strong sleeper. Point the index finger of your non-throw hand out and bring the yo-yo up. Now move your throw hand under the yo-yo and up again on the other side.*For more detailed instructions, go ahead and surf the web*The trick itselfOkay, now that you are in the brain twister mount, bring your throw hand up and under your non-throw hand so it forms a sort of cup. Now move your hands up a bit and the yo-yo will come up to your hand. Be prepared to catch it. This is the "stop" part of the trick "stop and go". Now for the "go" part. Bring your throw hand under the yoyo and twist it so your fingers point away from you. Now pull your throw hand down and leave your non-throw hand where it is. The yo-yo should start spinning again and you are ready for more tricks.

STOP THE SPAM

WE DONT WANT TO HEAR IT. i noticed alot especialy in the knex gun instructables if people ask if they should post a certian gun that they built. we dont want to hear it. just post it and it will be either a + or a -. also are there admins/moderators? i think there should be some due to people stealing other peoples ideas. oh well just an idea for the creators to think of. but weigh in on both subjects if you want. if you just want to flame me for creating this go ahead. but i think that its a matter that gets annoying.

Just stopping in...

Hey everyone! I haven't really been active here on instructables for a while (I still do check it daily though!). I have been using a bunch of other forums lately (AndroidCentral, XDA Developers, etc...) and I have to say that instructables, BY FAR, still has always been the best forum experience for me. The community, the forum layout, the community, the "Public Profile" page, the community, and, oh, did I mention how awesome the community here was? I would like to commend everyone here for making instructables one of the best websites around. Great job! -Kcls

Stop Hackers dead

This is interesting, So Zscaler acts like a pass/no-pass Gate.   If it were a firmware gate that only could be accessed by a dedicated keyboard then it could stop hackers dead.   Yes it would force sites to hold all their content rather then pulling this from there and that from elsewhere but NO HACKERS unless they physically take a site. What say you ?

Hello. I have an old Stop light in my game room.  I would like to have a switch that will cycle the lights: R, Y, G, R, Y, G....etc. I would also like it to dim the lights and have a setting to pick one light at a time.  I have see cyclers but they are about $100.  Can I build one for cheaper?  The cycling feature is the most desireable.  I can dim separately and do without the hold feature if I have too.  thanks for looking.  Aaron

I've been noticing around our community, there are people typing liek ths. WTF is up with that? Nobody understands it, and nobody talks like that in the real world! I mean, really! Nobody would walk up to a friend and say "Dat vid on youtube wus lol rigt?". See how idiotic that sounds?! Now i hope you learn from this, and go type normally.

Stop with the useless topics!

Ok, so I have noticed some forum topics that seem to serve no purpose, and thought I would bring this to the community's attention. An example of one of these posts would be Knexfreak's topic about how he is going on holiday. These posts are getting the K'nex community laughed at, quite frankly, and while sarcasm may be hard to pick up on on the internet, some others must have noticed at least something. And at least if you want to post some tat, use correct grammar and spelling. This is what mainly contributes to the stereotypical view of the 'K'nexer'. Or you could continue, as I did chuckle at the whole 'fourever' dialolgue in kookoo for knex's post. Thank you for that, caitlinsdad and others. 'Non-K'nexers' may want to use this topic to give advice to the K'nex community. Also, my name seems silly and has stopped me posting on other 'non-K'nex' instructables more than once , in fear of ridicule. Any ideas for a shiny new name are welcome.

Leadscrew stops and starts?

I'm trying to make a cnc plotter similar to this: http://hackaday.com/2013/10/17/unorthodox-home-made-cnc-machine/ I have changed some things though: I'm using aluminum rod with washers super glued to the end, another washer, and two nuts instead of flange bearings (brushings) and two nuts, I'm using 3/8 rod, pololu steppers (#1209), and slightly different conduit clamps.  I'm using a wooden dowel with a half-inch hole, and aluminum and nylon spacers tapped and with a setscrew to act as a motor coupler.  The problem I'm having is that as the motors rotate, even continuously in one direction, the gantry stops and starts moving.  It moves 1/16th of an inch per rotation, as it should, but within each rotation it moves quickly, probably 5/6 of the way within the first 180 degrees, then moves just the remainder in the last 180.  The motors do not stall, miss steps, or change speed, but the gantry does.  There is almost no backlash, and little play.  Any ideas whats wrong?

Arduino stop the loop?

I have a problem with my code, i basically move a motor with the help of 3 relays, when a sensor does not detect the presence of an object part of a call, everything works perfectly, if it was after having called the function CHIAMATA() the arduino loop() stop unexplains, i certainly made a mistake, but i do not understand which. thanks for your help this is the code.... #include #include #include swRTC rtc; //create a new istance of the lib SoftwareSerial mySerial(3, 2); const int buttonPin = 19; const int sensorPin = 9; const int allarmPin =  13; int buttonState = 0; int sensorState = 0; int relay1 = 8; int relay2 = 7; int relay3 = 6; int var = 0; // initialize the stepper library on pins 8 through 11: void setup() {     rtc.stopRTC(); //stop the RTC     rtc.setTime(12,0,0); //set the time here     rtc.setDate(4,6,2012); //set the date here     rtc.startRTC(); //start the RTC   Serial.begin(19200); //choose the serial speed here   mySerial.begin(19200);   pinMode(allarmPin, OUTPUT); } void loop() { while(mySerial.available()!=0);{}delay(10);     Serial.print(rtc.getHours(), DEC);     Serial.print(":");     Serial.print(rtc.getMinutes(), DEC);     Serial.print(":");    Serial.print(rtc.getSeconds(), DEC);     Serial.println(" "); //stato riserva croccantini sensorState = digitalRead(sensorPin); if (sensorState == HIGH) {     // turn LED on:     digitalWrite(allarmPin, HIGH);     Serial.println("Croccantini esauriti");     Serial.println("Spia allarme ACCESA");     Serial.println("Tramoggia DISABILITATA");     Serial.println("Imposto la chiamata");     while(sensorState == HIGH) {CHIAMATA(); break;}   } else {     // turn LED off:     digitalWrite(allarmPin, LOW);     Serial.println("Croccantini OK");   } if (sensorState == LOW && rtc.getHours()== 12 && rtc.getMinutes()== 00 && rtc.getSeconds()== 5) {startmotor();}   //start manuale carico/scarico   // read the state of the pushbutton value:   buttonState = digitalRead(buttonPin);   // check if the pushbutton is pressed.   // if it is, the buttonState is HIGH:     if (buttonState == 1) {       Serial.print("Pulsante alimentazione manuale ATTIVO");                               // turn on:   // singlestartmotor();   }         } void startmotor(){ //numero di cicli di carico da eseguire (5) while(var < 5){ pinMode(relay1, OUTPUT);   pinMode(relay2, OUTPUT);     pinMode(relay3, OUTPUT); digitalWrite(relay3, LOW); //ABILITA TUTTO //AVANTI digitalWrite(relay1, LOW); digitalWrite(relay2, LOW); Serial.print("AVANTI"); delay(1000); // wait 2 seconds digitalWrite(relay3, HIGH);//STOP TUTTO digitalWrite(relay1, HIGH); digitalWrite(relay2, HIGH); delay(1000); //ATTESA PER INVERSIONE MARCIA //INDIETRO digitalWrite(relay3, LOW);//ABILITA TUTTO digitalWrite(relay1, HIGH); digitalWrite(relay2, HIGH); Serial.print("INDIETRO"); delay(1000); // wait 2 seconds   digitalWrite(relay3, HIGH);//STOP TUTTO   delay(5000); // wait 2 seconds   var++; }} void CHIAMATA() { mySerial.println("ATD329xxxxx135;");//dial the number, xxxx ix the phone number. delay(100); Serial.print("Chiamata in corso..."); return loop();}

Stopping contest cheaters

I was casting my votes for projects in the Chirstmas Decorations Contest and noticed something strange. The project with the highest votes had a bunch of very brief and highly complimentary comments made by people with the generic avatar. It just looked funny to me. The author wasn't replying to any of the comments. Look at your instructables and i bet there is a sprinkling of generic avatars and also some actual conversations between you and your commenters. So i probed. And i noticed that a bunch of these seemingly generic profiles had been created just prior to the close of another contest. And guess what? They comment on (and i'm willing to bet - vote for) only the instructables of a single user. What are the chances? So i sent an email to TPTB and when the contest results were announced i felt better knowing that they hadn't gamed the system. So i was perusing the entries of the Craftsman contest to start casting votes and started with those with the most votes. And i found another project that had a bunch of generic avatars commenting - and on one case they messed up and replied to one of their fake compliments with a thank you but they used a profile that they complimented the project on instead of the profile that they submitted the project with. What is frustrating is that some of these projects are quite good and should stand on their own merit. The authors just ruin it by artificially creating conversation, inflating the registered user count, and seeming desperate. To prevent from seeming biased or hoping to have my project rank higher i have asked to have my project removed from the contest. (i have no expectation of even an honorable mention my project is so pale in comparison to the many great ones - the project i really wanted to do was impossible because of my Alaskan winter weather) I have a few suggestions... Instructables Staff: Perhaps a rule in the contest prohibiting the creation of multiple profiles for the purpose of voting for or increasing the comments (do they pop to the front page when recently commented on?) or hit count of their project. If you really have multiple personalities then this rule would not apply. (grin) Or maybe a "report this user" feature which browsers could use. Report as: possible duplicate, offensive, violating something or other... Instructables users: Perhaps the masses have a better chance of catching things like this. I don't think this problem will go away unless it is clear that it won't be tolerated. (Or am i just getting too grumpy and it should be tolerated?) We can post suspicious users or projects with comments that appear hokey. I guess the best question to ask right now is should this be dealt with quietly (the staff will ignore votes from the same IP address or use other non-public methods of dealing with it). Or should there be a public flogging? I'd hate to see a really great project with an honorable user bumped out of a prize or even have a lower vote tally than a project that has merits but an author cheating the system to boost their score.

I think someone has hidden a tracker on my bike to locate and steal it.

I have a cargo bike that is pretty exspensive. I found a small item under my dogs seat . It was not like purposely concealed but I may not have found this thing for a while .  It looks like a  small kids flashlight . It had a blue rubber cover with a happy face on it .But it is not a flashlight . It is about 2 inches long and 3/4 of an inch wide . When  you remove the cover there is a - a meta-dv1 circuit board - a small blue led which was wrapped in a cover that said 125 degrres c on it - 2 lithum cr2016 batteries  Please help me figure this out . I have a invisible chronic illness that caused my drivers license to be revoked. My bike is my life line to the world . I need to know if some organized group of theives is trying to track me.  Many Many Thanks to anyone who can help

Stop with the incomplete knex contests...

Ok. So this is something that has been bugging me for AGGEESSS now. All of these Knex contests, hosted by people who clearly no nothing about knex. (Sorry for being a bit harsh) And also, with a massive lack of presentation, pictures, and/or prizes. I mean, in about the last week, I've seen at least 10 knex competitions and challenges. Well sure, maybe the odd knex competition or whatever, but not loads of comptetitions that are stupid. Sorry to the guy who did this, but I mean, someone made a ball machine contest, no presentation, picture or prize, with 3 random categories. I mean, theres nothing new, nothing challenging, so whats the point? Maybe you thought this whole topic was harsh and mean, but see the other side of it. STOP POSTING STUPID CONTESTS!

Whale hunting season, begins again...

Just interested in how "ible" members felt, about Japanese whaler's entering protected zones for the purpose of research.. This is also the first year they will be escorted by an Australia research vessel to gather documentation to use against this process. The fleet has recently set sail for our southern water's with the intention of harvesting humbacks for the first time in decade's. The Australia Anti whaling vessel's, as usual should provide for an interesting event... So what I'd like to know is, since the rest of the world say's NO to whaling why do we not as global power's tell the Japanese to cease... I'm not talking everthing, but atleast during migratory season when they are in sanctuary's and sitting duck's... STOP TALKING ABOUT IT AND STOP WHALING NOW!! Whale can't taste that good, make a synthetic version like fake crab.... fake whale... they need to wake up and deal with it... they are not theirs to take. They are our's, so leave them alone...!!

Quit asking if I have anything coming out.

Lately there have been a few dozen people asking me if I have anything new coming out.  I'm getting sick and tired of this, so let me give you a few reasons as to why I haven't made anything for the past 4 months: - I haven't posted anything new because I respect my viewers.  I am dedicated to making nice and good performing guns, and I try my best to perfect anything I make for as long as I need to.  I don't want to give people crap, I want my viewers to look at QUALITY guns.  I'm tired of seeing these crap guns getting a few thousand views in a short period of time while simultaneously burying good guns down in a pile of garbage.  For example, this lame knex ripoff pistol has 2,000 more views than the DD-27, and the DD-27 came out at least 5 months before this pistol. - I'm busy.  For example, State mandated exams are coming up soon, and our school is working our butts off trying to get us ready for it.  I also have a social life outside instructables.  Long story short, If you want to know when I come out with something new, just subscribe to me. I'll come out with something when I post something. It takes away a bunch of annoyance that adds to the stress I already have. If you think I am arrogant and want me to stop, PLEASE STOP ASKING.

Video bombing. Stop...it...now...

It's fung time to do something about those bloo videos that stu people are carpet bombing Instructables with. ! Please limit the possibility of posting an unlimited amount of instructables/slideshows/videos per 24 hour period. One (1) per 24 hours are quite enough for anyone that are actually doing something good and not just carpet bombing/spamming crappy videos from Metacafe to get some money. As a temporary solution maybe just banning Metacafe-videos would help remove those obnoxious spammers. Or can you also get payed by videos on Youtube/Google? Talking in friendly manner to these guys doesn't really help. It only fixes (possibly) the problem with one guy, but there will just come more and more of them all the time. Stop motion camera crane

Ok. I need to create a camera crane. It dosn't have to be very big since I'm using it for stop motion. Just a simple pan and tilt crane with a counterweight to off-set the camera. Now, I can make a regular one very simply using a video crane method that you can find on this site. However, this crane must do 2 things. 1. It must be able to move at incredibly small increments. Only fractions of an inch at a time. 2. The crane must be able to hold it's position in a very sturdy manner. It cannot move even in the slightest because stop-motion requires that the camera does not move at all while individual pictures are being taken. For the life of me, I can't figure it out. Traditionally, a "step motor" is used to create the individual movements for things like this. But they are incredibly expensive. I've had more luck with gears and servos, however I want to figure out the logistics before I just go buy gears individually on a website that may or may not work. Your help would be appreciated. Thank you.

World's smallest stop-motion animation.

Professor Fletcher's invention of the CellScope, which is a Nokia device with a microscope attachment, was the inspiration for a teeny-tiny film created by Sumo Science at Aardman. It stars a 9mm girl called Dot as she struggles through a microscopic world. All the minuscule detail was shot using CellScope technology and a Nokia N8, with its 12 megapixel camera and Carl Zeiss optics. More cool stuff - the film's heroine, is printed.  Too small to be positioned by hand for each frame, multiple versions of Dot were created in different poses with a 3D printer (so, presumably, files exist for you to print out your own authentic film starlet?) See more projects and how the 'Dot' film was made at Nokia or Facebook. Yet another video that won't embed
