Building a Knex strandbeest

Hello. I just wan't to know from where can I get pieces to build a mechanism like K'nex strandbeest powered by a motor, for my project at University. I 've seen what kind of elements where used, but I don't know how to buy those elements and from who.

how can i be sure if the pieces I'll buy from eBay of Knex will have the dimensions I need for strandbeest?

Hello again. I went immediately to eBay site and I've put a bid for Knex 2000 pieces, 3 manuals and motors and I just want to be sure if all those will be useful for building a strandbeest, because I don't know the dimensions of pieces.

Strandbeest from BBQ skewers, what to use for bearings

I want to make a mini Strandbeest out of BBQ skewers, but I don't know what I could use for all of the little bearing points. Anyone have any suggestions? Something small simple and cheap. Any ideas appreciated!

I need to buy or fabricate a strong crankshaft for a strandbeest-like glass robot.

I'm making a walking robot out of glass based on Theo Jansen's strandbeest leg design. Fabricating the crankshaft has proven an odious challenge. I'm looking for a source where I can buy either a complete crankshaft to my specs or parts from which to fabricate my own. It needs to be about 30" long, with 6 crank arms (offset 120°, therefore 2 at each angle), throw on the crank to be 1". My original design was for a 1/2" diameter shaft, which is necessary if it's going to be glass, but if metal the shaft diameter could probably be smaller. The video here shows the crankshaft I made, but I don't  really trust it.http://instagram.com/p/x8xcPeyn-1/?modal=true  The prototype leg:  http://instagram.com/p/wewqr1yn6a/?modal=true

Motorized Gakken STRANDBEEST desktop model kit

Has anyone replaced (or plan to replace) the Gakken desktop strandbeest model kit's wind turbine with a toy DC motor and gear system?  If so, I would love to hear what specific motor and gear system was used and how you mounted everything on the model. It would take a motor with adequate torque to operate the twelve legs, a properly sized gear/gears to operate the model at a moderate speed  and some simple way to connect the motor/gear to the existing gear system.  I've seen hacks for K'nex, tinker toy, erector set, aduino, & custom builds but nothing added to the Gakken mini strandbeest kit except a hamster wheel.

We all have seen the Theo Jansen Machines and they are JUST AWESOME! I'm trying to build one. What is the the theory and mechanism behind Jansen's machines? Please explain. [Unicode Symbols for your convenience: Degree= ° , Half = ½ , Third = â, Fourth = ¼, Three Fourth = ¾ , Integral = ∫ , Differential = ∂, Delta = Δ , Square = ² , Cube = ³ , Square root = √, Cube Root = â, Infinity = ∞, sum = ∑ , Therefore = ∴, Because = âµ,]

Theo jansen mechanism

OK, I finally got hold of measurements for theo's strandbeest. these come directly from theo himself which means there accurate however it also means they're not in English. the numbers are there and they're easy to figure out, but it would be nice to know what the paragraph beside them says. so if any can read it, please post a translation. thanks

Going to buy one soon but what do I need?

Things that im wondering: 1. Do I use AutoCad or 3d studio max or something else? (At the moment im not 100% on what im making but so far i think ill be building things like Strandbeest or bookmakrs nothing huge but interesting projects. Ultimately I want to find the thing i love making). 2. Robo R1 "ABS+PLA Model" for now seems like the best model for the price (ultimately when im good at it I want to buy a Form 1 "formlabs" for jewelry) 3. Should I grab any 3d model I see and hoard it like a winter squirrel? 4. instructables has always been a great site (Home improvement projects) I just never had a reason to build a profile, are there other sites that would have info on 3d printing? Any help would be great :)
