stripping wallpaper

I'm new to DYI and started to strip wallpaper off of my wall. I used Golden Harvest Strip plus after scoring the wallpaper. The wallpaper came off easily. Underneath there was a section that was painted with a roller and had a little texture. The was also a section of heavy white paper which I also pealed off and beneath that was plaster. Not sure what to do I left the paper folded over a section of wallpaper as I did not know if I should remove it or paste it back. Also when I was washing the paste off of the painted section some of the textured paint came off. I wanto to eventually paint the wall. Help Help!! Sallery

LED Strips

Hey everyone! Ive been on this site for awhile, and find it simply amazing. And now I have a simple question for some electricians :) Im OBSESSED with light, literally OBSESSED. the only bad thing, is I know NOTHING in electronics, but ive started learning and am trying to assemble a very simple led strip light with some conductive tape, and 12v power supply and about 16 leds. (yes i know there is a bar tutorial, but i need some explaning on a few parts.) I want to just have 16 leds in a parallel or series, (prefer parallel) so it can be put on a very slim piece of wood/metal/sheet or wherever i place it. I tried using the ledcalculator, but it keeps telling me i would need a resistor for EACH led, and that would just defeat my set up being "small and simple" So is there anyway to just have ONE resistor in the VERY beginning, to limit the current of 12v down to 3.5 to supply to all the 16 leds? Kinda like in my drawing (that is bad) Because i want the assembly to be as small as possible, and would like not to use one for every LED And also, how many leds would i be able to drive in a parrallel with a 12v power supply? Thnx so much in advance!

How to strip cables to free the copper inside?

E-waste collectors in countries like Ghana collect cables and then burn them to get rid of the plastic and then sell the copper. This process is not environmental friendly and harms their health. I'm working on a project to find better ways to treat imported e-waste. Is there a better way to strip cables that would not imply burning, and that would respect the worker's health? Thanks!

How do I strip a small amount of insulation from the MIDDLE of a wire? Answered

I have a plan for a small strip of low-voltage lights. I want to solder in-line to the main wires, so I need to strip about 1/2" of insulation from the wire at some distance from the end. Getting copper out of cables the low-cost low-tech way

Hi all, I'm working on a project aimed at helping e-waste workers in Ghana. They collect cables and burn them to get the copper (see video 6min). Burning them is toxic and they damage their health. I'm looking for alternatives to this burning process. - First idea would be stripping cables. I will need a very basic tool, man-powered, to strip them. - Second idea would be shredding and sorting out. Probably something like this bike (http://www.halwatts.co.uk/Esource). I would like to do it open source hardware to facilitate replication. I'm looking for people who can help by giving tips on how to build a prototype, and maybe get more involved.  Do you know about tools that can serve this purpose of getting copper out the cables, low-cost, low-tech? Thanks

24 LED strip

Hello all, I've got what i thought would be a simple project so i could take some impressive long exposure photos. eg: www.flickr.com/photos/24528515@N05/2356088056/in/pool-lightpainted Heres the materials i have: (also see pic) 1: 24 white led's soldered in series (yes i started without knowing what i was doing :P ) 2: A small 4.5v battery pack. 3: A simple clicky switch. Heres what i dont have: 1: A clue about resistors or where to add them. 2: I don't know what voltage the leds are as they were removed from a broken led lamp by my brother. (who also dumped the casing so i cant see what the circuit on it looked like) 3: Any more patience. :) The third pic just shows one of the 24 leds being tested with a 3v battery. I've done this with all 24 to make sure that there are no dead ones. Can anyone help my ignorance?

Controlling LED Strips in Parallel

I'm working on a project with LED strips Namely, these ones using a LPD8806 PWM. I'm using these because I really want the ability to assign each light individually. I was hoping I could hook up an Arduino to do the controlling. My problem is that I need to cut the strip into smaller sections, and then use the sections in different places. I could conceivably wire each smaller section of the strip to the next in series, but it would be easier to just run separate sets of wires to each and have a parallel set up. I'm just concerned that if I do this, the Arduino may not be able to still control each light individually. Thanks for any help! I gotz ta have my color-changing LEDs!

running LED strip on ac

So i started working on a new project with RGB LED strips and I needed a power source, I dug around my box full of wall warts and saw one that said 12v 3000mA and thought ''perfect!''. I never hit the wires with my multimeter, just used a spare chunk of led strip to figure out polarity.. Anyway, plugged a line into my strip and into my LM7805 and blew my voltage regulator, only then did I look at the power supply and notice it was 12v AC! So to my question (sorry for the long winded intro) How are my LEDs working with AC power?? I switched the leads and they turn on with either line attached, so its obviously alternating, but how could these turn on at all?

Calculating notes of twanged strips Answered

Consider a twanged metal ruler, or the "keys" of a thumb piano (kalimba)... I'm in the middle of designing A Thing, and I am sure that there ought to be a way of calculating the note produced when you twang the end of a strip of metal. Assuming I know the Young's modulus, length, width & thickness of a strip of metal (rectangular cross-section), is there a formula into which I can plug these numbers and predict the note produced? Or are there other properties I need to know?

I'm writing an article that gives detailed instructions on how to build a simple electronic gadget. I would normally just get a custom PCB made and they look neat in photos but if I use strip board people don't have to go to the effort and can get all the bits they need from an electronics store. Testing LED light strips

More questions regarding this: https://www.instructables.com/id/How-to-make-a-super-bright-LED-light-panel-for-vid/ I've added my 30 led strips and have soldered them in place.  The video says it's a good idea to test your strips at this point by connecting them to a power source. I presume it means to connect the two paired wires on the back of the panel to a power source.  However, I don't know electronics so I'm not sure how to do this. I have a 12v AC adapter as well as some other power adapters from old laptops.  How do I connect this to the wires? Is there a link to an existing instructable that might explain this for a newbie? [vid] Addressable led strips

Greetings; I just finally got my sparkfun led strips working with the fastSPI code posted by Daniel Garcia. Not enough info to post an instructable yet -- What projects would you want to see done with this? I was using just bitbanging to make the arduino spit out the animations in software serial, and it was brutal hard on the processor -- barely had enough cpu to shift out the data, let alone calculate the animation.  Special thanks to the fastSPI code I found the hardware serial can do all the communication work and the processor can concentrate on animating. I will be posting a full ible but need more ideas! From my vid description: Got 64 RGB leds wired up using only 2 spi communicaton wires in excess of 100fps leaving tonnes of cpu overhead room for calculating the animation. *(I have to use delays to slow down the animation or its too fast to see with the eye, let alone capture with a camera) Strip: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10312 (x2) Waterproof self-adhesive rgb addressable strips. INSANELY bright for 5050 leds. at full white 2 strips draws just under 2 amps/5 volts, they get a bit warm but nothing serious. uC: Arduino mega 1280; I found my duemilenove didn't have the storage capacity for this program. Anything 'uno' or better should do. Library: http://code.google.com/p/fastspi/ Special thanks to Daniel for writing his amazing library. Has support for many types of led strips and absolutely destroys software serial for getting the data out! This is the sample animation that comes with the library to get you started. It took just a bit of tweaking the software and wiring to get it working. Planned projects: Ambilight for computer Midi drum/keyboard visualizer Random party light/vu meter suggestions?

Wearable RGB LED Strips (with NeoPixel strips) added to Rave Hat

Hello Instructables community! This is my first post so I hope this is the proper forum to post this question in.  I am looking to add some RGB LED strips to a fluffy hat I got a while back. Im very familiar with arduino (second semester Electronics Engineering Tech @ NAIT), although I've never made any sort of wearable project before. I was looking into the arduino FLORA, though they almost always seem to be sold out. I have already configured (on breadboard) the circuit for sending messages from my phone to the bluetooth dongle, and thus changing the colour of the RGB strip seems to work (later on ill program designs and patterns). Where I need help has to do with batteries and how to determine what will be needed given  I am using 2  8light  NeoPixel rgb strips and a HC06 bluetooth module. I was thinking about soldering the circuit onto a circuit board, cutting it out and putting it in a case, though with an arduino nano, bluetooth module, and batteries it will likely be cumbersome and uncomfortable to mount on the hat. I know I need 5 volts to power the arduino but what kind of batteries should I use? I was reading about thin lithium ion ones with the FLORA but as expected they are all sold out.  If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please share them with me as I was looking to have this project completed before the 6th of May. I can attach images and whatnot later as for whatever info is needed to help me integrate these lights onto my hat. Thanks.

Help with powering chained LED strips?

It's been about 30 years since I had any formal training in wiring circuits, so excuse my ignorance.   I am trying to chain a couple of addressable LED strips.   The strips have the following requirements: Power consumption: 10W/M Length: 5m Voltage: DC5V So it's 50W for the length of one 5m strip.    I'm considering chaining two or more strips together.   The data chain can be as long as it needs to be, but the the manufacturer recommends powering strips every 5m.     Let's say I have a 5v 60A (300W) DC power supply.   Can I run multiple strips (I guess up to six 5m strips) with this wired in parallel, or do I need to worry about putting resistors in to keep it from overloading the strips?    Here's a quick sketch diagram

Powering LED strips that are cut into pieces?

I need to know what I need to buy to power each of these pieces.  My understanding is that the adapter that came with the strip will now be too powerful for the smaller strips and I don't want to buy over-powered adapters for the cut pieces. Also how do I go about with the actual connection to the led strips as seen in my photos.
