hammer survey

Hi! we are students in an pre-engineering program called Project Lead The Way (PLTW) at Stratford High School in Connecticut. We are currently working on a open ended design project. For our project we must identify a problem in the world and try to solve it. Our problem is that hammers cause over 36,000 injuries per year, and we would like to solve this as best as possible. Can you please fill out this survey? We'd greatly appreciate it. This is the link to the survey( we personally added a tinyurl to shorten the web address here) http://tinyurl.com/np7gzh2 If you have any questions we'd be glad to answer them!

Soldering Survey

Hi there. We’re Solder Otter, a team of recent engineering graduates from the University of Waterloo in Canada that is redesigning the soldering iron so soldering electronics can be safer and simpler. You may have seen the survey we posted back in 2013 when we first started working on Solder Otter. Since then, we’ve built prototypes, won pitch competitions, and learned so much about makers and soldering. We’ve received a lot of positive feedback, so we’re pushing forward with the project beyond graduation. We have another survey. It’s similar to our last survey, but this one is designed to help us refine our prototype into the best soldering iron for you. We’re reaching out to makers and hobbyists across several forums because we want to learn about your soldering experiences, preferences, and needs. We're also considering designing with children in mind, so if you have any input in that regard, we'd love to hear that too. If you can spare 10 minutes to fill out our survey (link below), we would really appreciate your input. Thank you! If you have any questions or comments feel free to reply to this post or send us an email at info@solderotter.com. Link to survey: http://goo.gl/forms/Uep9Qd0GiM

AutoCAD for Mac Survey

AutoCAD was the first CAD package I really felt comfortable using and designing in. I've since realized that part of being an engineer is being familiar enough with dozens of different CAD packages so that you can recognize which one is the best tool for the specific challenge at hand. Since I use a Mac, I keep a copy of Windows running under Parallels primarily for CAD packages. This is actually a pretty common theme with people working at the various Squid Labs-related companies. I could probably walk just a couple of offices down and see SolidWorks on a MacBook Pro screen right now.So, I'm happy to read that AutoDesk is asking for input on a version of AutoCAD for the Mac:Mac Fanbois Get their Wish: AutoCADNearly two decades ago, Autodesk abandoned AutoCAD on the Mac. But now perhaps it is seeing too many sales lost to the likes of ArchiCAD to architecture clients, NX to mechanical engineering customers, and SketchUp to designers. Autodesk marketing calls it "trying to stay in tune with our customers," and are asking Mac and AutoCAD users to fill out a survey. ..."

Scoreboard popover survey is obnoxious

Title says it all:  I am a proud pro member of ibles because I want to support the community, and I genuinely hate obtrusive ads.  I can understand that ibles wants site feedback, but popovers (flash or javascript animated boxes that pop into a webpage over its content) are just annoying when the same could be accomplished with an inline tasteful banner. Whenever I'm just surfing/stumbling a site, I INSTANTLY move on to greener pastures when these obnoxious intrusions pop over the content, regardless of what they ask or tell:  confirm your age, would you like to participate in a survey, subscribe to our newsletter, etc...  I don't know about others, but popups are the downfall of a quality content site.

Open Hardware Toolchain Survey

I'm not sure how many instructables readers/authors identify with the open source community, but what you guys are doing in terms of publicly documenting hardware projects is awesome and makes your perspective especially valuable.  The Open Hardware Toolchain Survey is an attempt to uncover a basic list of user/developer requirements that can be contributed to the documentation discussion and, ultimately, lead to a new generation of collaboration tools.  I would like to personally ask you to take 10-15 minutes to add your perspective and/or pass this request along to anyone you think might be interested. The compiled results of the survey will be made available and will also be used at the OSHWA's DocJam. Not sure if I can post links but you can just google "wareium survey" and it will be right at the top. Matthew Maier

I am currently working on a product redesign project for pyrography, specifically for the tool (i.e. solid-point burner). At this time I am conducting general research and collecting firsthand interviews with people (of any skill level) who have done pyrography. I have copied and pasted my questionnaire to this, and I would greatly appreciate any contribution. Sincerely, Nicole San Jose State University – Industrial Design – Visualization III: Ergonomics/Human Factors Name: Occupation: Experience Level in Pyrography: (Please choose one, beginner, advanced, or professional) 1.      How did you become interested in pyrography? 2.      Do you do pyrography recreationally or professionally? 3.      How do you choose your pyrography projects? 4.      If professionally, how many hours do you work a day? Help with graduate research project about teaching young makers

Hi everyone, my name is Andrew. I’m a graduate student at Simon Fraser University in Vancouver, and I teach at our local science museum. I need your help for my graduate research project! I am getting people from the DIY/craft/art/maker/hacker communities to fill out a short (5 minute) survey about their habits surrounding creative projects. The results will help teachers, like me, who want to do hands-on projects with their students. Plus, filling out a survey enters you into a draw for a $150 Amazon gift card! Here’s a link: https://fluidsurveys.com/surveys/makingmakers/diycommunityresearchsurvey/ This research was inspired by my work at the museum running an after-school program where high school students work on their own creative projects. Once all the data is collected I will be happy to share the results. Thank you for your help! Andrew

Expressing my sincere appreciation......

I really love the jacket I just received in the mail from Instructables, it has a nice high collar to keep out the wind, and is about the correct "weight" (I rarely wear coats) for me.  It is greatly appreciated.

The Kids Are Alright

Via The Sietch BlogIf I asked you if giving up your car and plane travel (permanently) was a sensible solution to global warming, most people of adult age (lets say 20+) would have a hard time doing that. However the next generation, the ones who are really going to be screwed by the ill effects of the global climate crisis see things a little differently."new generation of green teenagers are prepared to support radical measures to help the planet, says a new study.A survey of 16- to 19-year-olds by the Future Foundation found more than one in eight (13%) supported a ban on travelling by air for leisure purposes, while one in 10 say they would back a ban on cars if global warming continues to worsen.Almost 10% even say they would be prepared to take part in guerrilla activities carried out by environmental groups.Meanwhile others - primarily girls - are so eco-conscious they have developed a whole new strand of teen insecurity: "green angst", defined as anxiety about one's eco credentials. Others said environmental awareness even influences their choice of friends and partners. The report was conducted on behalf of the National Lottery to inform funding of environmental projects."It might sound like these kids have lost their minds, supporting guerrilla organizations?! But when you consider the kind of world they are going to inherit it makes perfect sense. If you knew that your parents generation was going to leave you a doomed world, you might be a little pissed. No one wants to grow up to inhabit a mad max movie.According to the study released today by The National Lottery (UK organization), half of 16-19 year olds (50 per cent) want plastic bags banned completely, 71 per cent think that unnecessary packaging on food should go, and 13% per cent want a ban on traveling by plane for leisure purposes. While a quarter (24 per cent) think there should be increases on the taxes and tolls affecting cars, one in ten is prepared to go even further and would support a complete ban on cars if global warming continues to get worse.Read more here.

Makerspace Skillsets Survey for Improved Educational Use of Makerspaces

PhD student Brian O'Connell at Tufts University is doing research on Makerspaces as interactive learning environments. As part of that research, they have created a survey that will help gather data on how people currently assess some of the skillsets common to makerspaces as well as get an idea of how they wish they could do so. Due to your experience with some of the skillsets common to makerspaces (soldering, 3D printing, woodworking, microcontrollers, electronics, etc), we would like you to participate in this survey. It should take less than 25 minutes to complete, less if you only participate in some of the categories. Please pass this onto anyone you know who has experience with these skillsets. https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1iRGVNoChCR9uaFVQcdQ1AlHrO9DCqwmpEph-oNzunQI/viewform If you have any questions, please contact Brian O’Connell - brian.o_connell@tufts.edu
