Can anyone tell me why all of a sudden there are so many Instructables on swings? Just wondering. It's WAY too cold to even want to spend much time out of doors where I live...in northern Illinois, -5° this morning.

Cranes are used to move loads from one location to another in minimum time such that the load reaches its destination without swinging. As we all know, that swinging problem occurs due to flexibility of wires but if the wire is rigid and permanently fixed on one side then ???As per the sketch there will be a telescopic arm and one side of the arm will be attached with the trolley of the crane. This rigid telescopic arm will be connected with the load at the time of lifting the load. In this way there will be no problem of swinging as the rigid telescopic arm will be fixed with the trolley and wires will work to lift the load so there is no chance of swinging of load.My solution can achieve these following points at the time of construction.Improved Safety High-Precision Moves Increased ProductivityEasily Implemented on Existing tech Save time Save energy to reduce carbon Cost as the crane can work at the time of high speed air. My buddy, Steeeve, and I are big fans of a local restaurant that has a "tiki bar" in back, and our favorite feature is the rope swing chair at the bar. The seat hangs from three ropes. It's basically a bucket seat with a rigid, metal frame, so it doesn't close in around you when you sit on it. This is then covered with leather. We are in the planning process of building some swing chairs of our own at the tiki bar at Steeeve's cabin. I am looking for any suggestions regarding the frames for the seats. Neither of us knows how to weld, and although we would both like to learn, I'm also looking for some more ready-made solutions.

I have a horse swing for the kids brought some years ago and now come to fitting and find no instructions on how best to fit to a tree - any ideas? If i just tie it to one point on the tree it folds up and twists, not swings - before I try and fool around, would be nice if someone could advise the best? Thanks

I've been searching the net to try to find a "how to" on the swinging sticks desktop sculpture as shown in Iron Man 2.It looks super cool and the science behind it makes it even more interesting. I was looking at guns on Wikipedia and saw a pic of a revolver with a swing out cylinder. I went straight to work and made the swing out cylinder, but I couldn't figure out how to make the rest of the gun and keep the cylinder from moving all over the place. I don't have a digital camera, but I can tell you how I made it. 1. Take a blue rod 2. Attach a dark grey connector on 1 end of the rod 3. Put 1 grey cylinder spacer on the rod, followed by 2 blue ring spacers 4. Put the blue rod through the hole of another dark grey connector 5. Put 2 more blue ring spacers on, followed by 1 more grey cylinder spacer and attach 1 more dark grey connector to the other end of the blue rod 6. Take 1 white rod and snap on 2 white snowflake connectors, then snap the rod into the dark grey connector in the middle of the blue rod (the dark grey connector should be in the middle of the 2 white snowflake connectors) 7. Take another white rod and attach a dark grey connector on 1 end of it, then slide the white rod through the hole of 1 of the dark grey connectors on the blue rod, then slide on another grey cylinder spacer and attach 1 yellow connector on top of the white rod 8. Do #7, but on the other side of the blue rod 9. For the handle, I took 3 green connectors and snapped them on to 1 white rod, then put 3 small green rods on the bottom of each green connector (Look below to find a little bit better explanation) 10. Take 3 yellow connectors and attach them to a white rod, then connect all 3 to the 3 green rods mentioned in #9 11. Take 3 more green connectors and attach them to a white rod and add 3 small green rods to the top of the 3 green connectors and attach them to the 3 yellow connectors in #10 BETTER EXPLANATION 1. A green connector has 4 places for 4 rods (I will call them teeth) 2. From left to right, it goes empty tooth, white rod, empty tooth, small green rod 3. A yellow connector has 5 teeth for 5 rods 4. From left to right, it goes small green rod (from the green connectors mentioned above), white rod, empty tooth, empty tooth, small green rod 5. Same as #2, but it goes small green rod (from the yellow connectors mentioned above), white rod, empty tooth, empty tooth If anyone knows what I'm talking about and makes these pieces & has a digital camera, please take pics and show me so ppl can see what I'm talking about. Also, if anyone finds out how to make the rest of the gun, please tell me and show me how you made it (but please don't take credit for my design of the cylinder & handle. If you mod/have to mod any of these 2 parts to make the rest of the gun, don't forget to credit me for the original design of the 2 parts). Also, if anyone does make the gun, please post an instructable for it. I would love to see the gun that I almost got to make. So please tell me where to go to get the instructable I you decide to post it. Also, the gun doesn't have to shoot anything. Thanks to everyone that contributes.

I need help in finding a replacement part for a swing arm magnifying lamp. I have search far and wide online but could not find any. I have also tried the company that I had purchase from (2 Years ago) they do not carry replacement parts. The lamp is a Alvin lamp desk clamp, the lamp is in excellent and working condition. The only problem is the swevil part that connects the lamp head to the the swing arm. ( see pics) Any alternative idea or sudsititude would be helpful. Thanks

I am trying to make the following: i need a 4 foot arm to swing parallel to the ground at a fulcrum. Only needs to travel 90 degrees one direction, then back 90 degrees to its original spot - Kind of like 1 windshield wiper running parallel to the ground the weight of the arm plus load at the end is roughly 10pounds this would be triggered by a single button thats the gist of it. Now if. I could tweak it... i would like one press of button A to move the arm 90 degrees then it stops. A second press of button A would move the arm back to where it originally was. Or, if this is too costly, I could hold the button down while the arm cycles 90 degrees and back, releasing the switch when the arm reaches its desired location I need cheap options or at least a good place to start. I have zero coding or electronics knowledge thank you

We bought a new swing recently and has been consuming 4 C batteries every week. I am wondering if can hook it up to Wall transformer. Any ideas? I have some wall-wart at home that output 6-9v. Can I use them? Swing-Mark valve is a automatic flow chemical dispensing mixing valve, that works with the flow of water going through the valve. dispensing detergent and sanitizer chemical to each sink at a pre mix of water and chemical controled by the valve. Depending on the type of metering valve it has. Resturant and bar owners real perfer these valves because they automaticly always have a E P A regulated mixture of sanitizer per water, to wash and sanitize glasses and cups. Have built a pallet/ man sized trebuchet in a 4th grade class project. Looks great, swings well, but the tennis ball load is either released before the sling swings up, or not at all (slams against the arm). Have used 2 ropes with a shallow bag. Any suggestions? (Kids were disappointed on Friday)

The pdf starts out fine. Its about 20 pages long and on about page 5 of printing the languaue looks like this - its all english - but its messed up 6kahfahdfjdhjfsbd!!^&*@#%@# How do I fix this? It looks fine on the screen, but the print out is worthless.

Thanks i really want to start working on the ship. The Base of the whole thing is 4x4 with red rods and i'm using a 2x4 rectangle as the dock where the ship stays a loads the passenger. I also want it to look like it has seats.

My 4 year old is wheel chair bound. He is too weak to hold a bat and swing it.. So I want to attach a spring loaded baseball bat to his wheel chair, and all he does is hit a button to swing the bat. The bat would reload manually or ideally automatically. The same concept would work to 'kick' a soccer ball if we just attach the 'tool' lower on the wheelchair.

Ok, so here's the project. I want to make bar stools like the ones in this picture. http://pin.it/jxn4TMz See how there are two stools attached to a single black pipe upright with tees? My idea is to use schedule 40 uprights 1.5" with class 3000 2" socket weld tees. Dimensions look like the 1.5" will slide through the tee and then I'll weld 2" sch 80 for the arms going to the stools. But while clearances are tight inside the tee and upright, any ideas on how to make things swivel smoothly or take up that extra slop? Or any other ideas on how to skin this cat?

I have this really cheap-y bowie knife I bought on a whim that I hadn't really used before now. At first I was all happy because I had a giant bowie knife to swing at trees, but then I started to realize just how cheap-y it is: with a hard swing and something(dead tree, for example) the blade tends to bend a little..just wondering, is there any way to harden steel that would be plausible for this knife? The blade needs work anyway so if I can harden the steel I'll just add that to the list of things....I mean I can deal with a cheap-y handle and a cheap-y guard but a cheap-y blade is kind of a problem...

I want to swing a locket on a chain like a pendulum and I want to minmise the friction experienced where the chain attaches to the supporting post. What sort of bearing or similar device should I use for this? Ideally it should be available in a bronze/dirty brass colour but I guess I can deal with it if it isn't.

Nicola tesla, in his early years, was not shy when it came to use science through direct contact.Most of it we would call today playing practical jokes on students and friends alike.His harmonic balancer got the nick name earthquake machine.I won't go into the story how all came together, you can read the story on Wikipedia or other sites to the fullest of your imagination.Howver, I would like to go into some details of this invention.Or better: I will try to explain my view on why this machine might have actually worked close to what the story tells....Studying old paents and other documents is no fun and not always you can reach any valid conclusions from any of it.I mean, if you coud then you wouldn't need a patent for it.Some things however are so good, so special that they never get a patent, the company keeps it as an iternal secret.Same way a brewery won't tell you the exact recipe for the beer they make ;)The harmonic balancer has very little to go with except stories and some comments Tesla scattered here and there.So let's start by some claims Tesla made about this machine:1. It has a free swinging mass.2. The mass is balanced using "air springs".3. It usues very little energy.4. It finds the harmonic frequency of the object attached to automatically.If you think about the above you could say right away it is bogus.But think about the terms and language of the old days ;)Add the fact that Tesla never really gave any direct answers to how his inventions actually work and you see where I am going here.Point 1 and 3 are easy to imagine in many ways.Number 2 on the other hand contradicts itself at a first glance.But, if you place a piston with a good mass and good seal into a cylinder nd close both ends while the piston is in the center....A bit like these to shake emergency torches and flashlights.With that idea in the back of a head one can imagine shock absorbers and more.And a "mass" "swinging" in such a sealed tube would certainly be subject to the "spring" force of the air being compressed in front and the forming low pressure on the other end.The last one however had me stumped for almost two years with me getting nowhere.A mechanical system can't adjust itself to the harmonic frequency of anything....Then I saw a collection of funny videos.One of the clips had about 100 metronomes standing on a board.The board was place on two rollers so it cold move freely from side to side.All the metronomes wre set to about the same timing.But of course you just can't start them all at once or even so they swing in sync.After just a short while though, one by one found a matching partner on the board.Faster ones slowed down, ones totally out of sync seemed to miss a beat here and there.And then it hit me!Hundret swinging masses on a board and the board moves together with them!Once all were in sync and harmony the board moved basically exactly the same way sidewas as the single pendulums above.Number four finally solved :)How though could one try to replicate this impossible invention these days and without knowing any exact details anyway?We know it used one or two electromagnets.These moved the mass back and forth horizontally in the machine.However, it was more formed like a T wih a fat base.Tesla needed a dead simple way of doing with electricity what the metronome does just mechanically.If you have a little mass on a spring and one contact on the spring plus another on a tube that is around the mass - what do you get?No, not the trigger for something really nasty when you pick it up...Right! You get a motion detecting switch.A bit like our gyroscopic sensors do now in our phones....And if you cut the tube lenghtwise you end with two opposing contact to switch two magnets on depending on what side of the tube is hit by the mass (contact) swining on the spring.Try it out with a spring from old pen and a screw inside as a weight - quite sensitive if you get the weight right.Some drawing suggest he height was about the same as the width of the machine.This would suggest the contact was actually hanging upside down, so it could swing in the wider base.A bit of fine and very flexible opper braid with a weight would make a nice pendulum here....Do a little experiment first though ;)Make a sturdy frame or if you have none try a truck. ;)If you place the frame on wheels and a pendulum with just a string and some sinker at the end - what would happen if you move th frame sideways instead of swinging the weight?Inertia keeps the weight in place while the top mount of the string moves away.And if the weight stays in place for just a fraction of a second before starting to move with the frame?Correct! since the angle of the string changes, the ball appeas to move up.Not really by much but enough for an electrical contact to open....We have some ideas now on how those electromagnets might have been triggered by Tesla, what about the mechanics of the moving mass that claimed to have created earthquake like results?Precision is no problem these days, just check these toy kits to build your own Stirling engine or you trusty old Swiss Army Knife.And even a second hand air cyclinder and piston can be modded to act like a free swinging air pump.Only question that really remains would be how to match the mechanical system with the electircal?We have two seemingly independent masses, one to make things move violently, the other to energise the part that make the first mass move - or to be precise to give it a tiny push in the right direction.What does mean you wonder...Let me try to simplify it down a bit.....If you push someone on a swing you can have a very hard time by working against the mass of the person sitting and enjoying the ride.Or you could give the person just a tiny push - right when the swing starts from the highest point to go back.Could that mean it is really as simple to build as Tesla claimed?If the top mass is limited by how far it can swing FREELY before the air pressure works against this movement then we would only have to set the length of the pendulum so the contact happens right at that point on the x-axis of the top mass.Ok, and how would that make anything swing at all?If the top mass is first energised there is nothing to stop or influence the movement, except the "air springs".So it totally overshoots like those metronomes on the board.It swings back and closes the contact on the other side of the movement way early as well.Now the electromagnetic impulse from the second movement actually works against the moving top mass.And this swinging of total non-control continues while whatever the thing is mounted to also starts to move, even if it is just fractional.Over time both swings, from the machine and the object, will get to point where they influence each other in a "positive" way.For Tesla's experiment one would say negative though as it was quite violent in the end.Little by little both swing will get closer to being in sync and with that in resonance.The electromagnetic push however continues....Only that now the top mass of the machine is in sync with the thing it is mounted to.The machine became you standing behind a big swing and trying push someone higher and higher....It is all just a theory though and any minor earthquakes that might register around my area are pure coincidence ;)

Nothing that would permanently harm the pigeons (although it is tempting), but something that would scare the bejesus out of them. Maybe a motion sensor that would swing something to scare them.... maybe it woud play a predator sound when they got too close... the possibilities are endless. Please help!

For Halloween, I'm planning on making a large stone angel statue, and I'd love to have the head move back and forth. A had this idea of hiding a pc behind the toilet and then having an arm that can swing out with a an lcd on it. I took some measurements and I think I would have to make a custom case out of wood so it be 2 inches thick. I wanna pull out the parts of a cheap little hot glue gun and instead of using the wall plug put it on battery power any ideas how to do that?
