I am going to buy a table saw soon and I was just wondering what I should buy that is under $600 that can be used in a small space or moved outside?

My table saw tracks are narrow and I cannot use them for anything. I am wondering if there is a way to build a new top. I want the top to be accurate, but I have no idea how to go about this. I know I would like it to be functional with jigs with rails on both sides to accomodate different fences. Any ideas would be great. I have looked around the internet, but no luck. I have a Craftsman table saw with a cast steel top and extension. It is an older model 113.298150. It has a fence front rail and back rail of aluminum that I do not believe is original. The fence is missing. I need help to determine what brand of fence. I will try to attach profile pictures of the rails.Thanks

I have a 1970 Craftsman 10 in. table saw which has a cast tiron table  27 in. wide and 1.5 in. thick.  I need to replace the rip fence.  Approximately 0.75- 0.85 inches of the casting is available for locationg new holes.  Will the Delta T-30 fence mount to this?  Drilling new holes isn't a problem, I just don't know the geometry of the Delta fence and mounting system requirements.    Apparently, Lowe's no longer carries this product, but it appears to be available from on line sources. Hi all, I'd like your expert opinions :) I have a hobby size table saw which i'd like to expand. I'm planning to build a torsion box that surrounds the saw top. Do you think a torsion box with a cut out will be sufficiently strong, or will it reduce the torsion box properties too much? I was going to use MDF, would ply be a better option or does it not really matter? Any help is greatly appreciated. P.S. If you have a better idea please say so.

My brand new Ryobi Power Saw just busted. I turned it on with the wood in so the saw blade was stuck. Pretty soon the motor just stopped and won't even make a sound . It's shot. But what exactly is shot? Can I replace a part?

Wondering if anyone has any idea how to build a platform that will turn a portable circular saw into a table saw.

I have recently finished an instructable on a miter saw cart.  During the making of it I had to use a circular saw because I do not own a table saw.  My cuts where not to straightest and this resulted in some issues.  While looking at table saws to see if in the future this problem could be avoided I noticed that for the most part tables saws only come with about a 30" fence distance.  I was thinking maybe I could fabricate an extended bed with a simple wooden fence.  I was wondering if anyone had made an extended bed before and whats the simplest way to make a wooden fence?  Thanks for any help!! Hi This is my first Post, so please excuse me (as a Newbie) if I'm posting in the Wrong section.Ive been wanting to cut Plyboard sheets I have for a few weeks now. I have a Jig Saw and a Circular Saw. However the Jig saw is slow in cutting long pieces of Wood and when I use the Circular saw, I always end up cutting the sheet crooked. I recently saw on TV, a Table with a built in Circular Saw where u just position the wood and guide it slowly to produce a perfect straight Cut, However when I prices these, they are Very Expensive.I was wondering if some one can give me a plan or instructions where I can make this table circular saw from with Hand held circular Saw (Inverted and attached).I did a search but havent come up with anything similar to what I described.

Hey everybody,I'm making a table saw feed kit, that also required that I make a fence for it. I decided to make a fence out of wood, that I jointed square. So you folks can get an Idea, I have pictures, at least for the feed kit. And yes it does feed wood across the top of the table, like it should. I just haven't tested it with the blade running yet, but I'm sure it will work fine. It's likely I will write a comprehensive guide on how I did in the future.The issue I have is with the fence. When I clamp it on the end of the table saw it lifts up in the middle where I mounted the power feed. It's essential it remains flat to the table.Today, I made an electromagnet with a 5/8 bolt and 2 washers using 26 gauge winding wire, It GOT WAY TO HOT!I have seen door electromagnets, which leads to my question. If I use this type of magnet, will it still get extremely hot? I'm referring to the ones that have about 100lbs of hold down force, and are about 25 dollars.I'm aware that twist lock magnets are available, but they are way more expensive, plus the same power supply that drives the steppors can power the magnet.If someone can get me in the know I'd appreciate it.

I would love to buy a portable table saw for some upcoming summer projects, but living off unemployment doesn't afford me too many possibilities.  However, I found a bunch of scrap lumber off Craigslist and have a simple 8" circular saw I bought a few years ago.

i am sorry if this is the wrong place for this but i once saw on the internet a table from a cruise ship i think it was the "grand dining table" but i'm not sure. The table when turned opened to about double or triple its size extra pieces rising from inside and sliding into place to form a "whole" table the point of this is i would love if some one could point me to either the site or how to make one for myself

I have just set up my late fathers radial arm saw in my workshop , I cant ever remember seeing the blade been changed. I know it isnt rocket science ! lol Having just changed the blade on my table saw , which was kind of the same dilemma Im facing now , which is how to stop the blade or shaft from moving whilst I undo the nut that hold the blade on ??? The table saw had a hole on top which you put a rod into to stop the shaft ! The only thing I can think of for the radial arm saw is that the shaft on the otherside of the motor has a threaded hole on it ? as if something might screw into it , maybe to hold it in place whilst changing the blade ? or maybe not , it may have a completely different use. So I would be grateful for any advice or ways in which I might best secure the blade/motor shaft whilst I undo the nut holding the blade on ???? Thanks in advance

Hi instructable community. I am currently graduating, and I own a 484sq. feet (45m^2) apartment. I have the basics and am quite grateful for what I have. however, I belive that a coffee table is almost a necessity. The problem is that if the table isn't wide enough, it won't be of much use, and if it's too wide, it will occupy too much space and will be in the way. That's (hopefully) where you brilliant minded people come in. I was thinking about a folding coffee table that will be thin, and when I have company over, I pull on it or something and it widens up so it can comfortably hold a few glasses and maybe a book or too. I have added a few images of the area that the table will go. The couch is 2m in length (6.56167979 feet) so you can get a generall image of the room. The couch is on a slight angle, so the small plant can fit behind it (it's on a chair so it can get sunlight),  so I can move the couch around a little for a bit more room. Please keep in mind that I do not have many tools, but I know how to work with raw materials, It will just take a little more time (instead of an electrical saw, I have a hand saw. Same job, takes longer). Also I don't have alot of spare money and I can't find "special" items (for example, ball bearings, and pivot and swirlly stuff are out of the picture). I know it sounds quite bizzare but I would like some help. It doesn't HAVE to be a foldable table, but I would prefer it to be, because the couch is also a bed, so if someone comes over for a couple days, I need to be able to "hide" the table to open up some space.  Worst case scenario, I'll make a small(ish) chest that will double as the table. I am making a multi-function reciprocating device that will cut/crush many small materials from  thin wood to aluminum/sheetmetal. Mounted on a portable table I have a small 120V motor for my power. I want to design my own drive system using available gears/sprockets, but I am not sure where to start or how to determine which gears to use to achieve my desired output SPM. I could use some advice and pointers on calculating gear size/teeth, which ones will mesh properly, and what type of gears would be best.

I actually have 2 motors. One runs @ 4000rpm, 120 volt, 15 amp, 60 hz approximately 1800 watts and 2.2hp. The other is smaller @ 3600rpm, 7.5 amps, 120 volts, 60hz, 900 watts and approximately 1.2 hp. Can I use either of them to make a wind turbine and how much power will each generate? What would I need to convert them to generate power? I'm a novice so please keep the technical language to a minimum. Thanks.

I find it all to easy to bog down my 4" table saw, causing the flimsy belt to run off the pulley.  I'm thinking I need to change pulleys to increase speed and, ad a stronger/thicker belt.  Any feedback out there would be appreciated.    Hubiewan

I recently bought a 40 breeder tank and am working on a stand. I need to make about 19 perfect straight cut on 2x4's. I do not have a circular saw or table saw and the local hardware store does not make accurate cuts. Is there a jig I can make  to make perfect cuts with a jig saw. I was thinking like a box that guides the  2x4 and holds the jig saw in place.

Having recently moved into a new home, I should get down and try some simple DIY for myself without having to book the handyman.  First thing I should make is a work bench, or a saw bench (hand saw only) I searched for sawhorses and found several, but: I have a lower-spine injury that means I can't bend too much or for too long; I don't have much back, shoulder or arm strength, so sawing is an ordeal - more of an ordeal is trying to keep the damn wood still - at the moment it skates all over the place, i can't even cut 1x1s.  So I'd need to fit something that'd hold the wood still and be able to use both hands on the saw.   Would anyone have any ideas?  maybe a slight tweak to an existing model that would help me?  I'd want to cut flat wood later, but at the moment I need to cut the frames, 1x1s and 2d2s. I'd love to have a table saw, it'd be so much easier to cut with, but ... I'm also visually impaired and have never used a power tool other than a drill, and I sort of like my fingers where they are, attached to my hand!  And my vision also don't help me to get a good position to saw effectively; i have to get close to see what i'm doing. So really, I need a sawhorse high enough that i don't have to bend too much, but low enough that I can put what weight i have into my shoulder.  Know I'm asking a lot, but does anyone have any [polite!!!] suggestions? I figured I would create a bit of an imitation to the whiskey stones sold at think geek. I found a few stones which were large enough to create suitable cubes, and had a nice color to them. However, I ran into a problem when I finally got up to cutting them. My dremel tool provided minimal results, Even with solid carbide tips. So, I asked around and the only other suggestion I recieved was to use a diamond tipped table saw. The problem as you probably know is that that would be overkill, and probably ineffective, as I would have a hard time holding down a 2 inch stone. Your help is appreciated, thanks in advance. * note - I have no idea exactly what type of stone I'm using, but I know that it is relatively soft.

Do most power tools (such as Drill Press, Circular Saw, Table Saw, Router, Compound Miter Saw, Disc Sander), come with built in "brake" mechanism which will help slow the tool down once the energy is cut off?  My Compound Miter had a functioning brake that later stopped working.  I have very hit and miss experience with this.  Some do sometimes, and others never do at all.  OK, My tools aren't high end makes. My brands lean more toward the Chinese vs the Swiss.  Waiting on the tool to spin down to stop tests my patience. Perhaps there is something simple I cound modify to enable a reasonable brake function. (I'm hoping to do a tweak as opposed to taking metal to smelter and starting over) Any thoughts?  Any help is Greatly appreaciated!  BOB Z

What would cause an electric motor, running a table saw, to suddenly start running at a faster speed than normal?

Thinking about doors for the top, not sure what for the legs. thinking of a saw horse but not sure how this would work. wanting to seat 10 people. need the cost to be extremely low and it to be a mix of vintage, eclectic and earthy to match the rest of my house. anyone have any ideas?

The table is square, bar height, and the seats can be sat on from either left or right. I saw it in a magazine a year ago and of course, I did not make a copy of the plans. I sure would appreciate any ideas. Thanks

I recently made a wooden sword, but i made it out of a large, cylindrical stick. the sawing was tedious, and the cut wasn't as straight as i desired. is there an easier way, not using a cicular or table saw, to cut it? (and no, "cut straighter" isn't the answer i'm looking for.)

I'm not sure if this goes in tech, so I'm open to moving it if need be. I got grandpa's old router. I'm starting up my own wood shop and want to make a router table for the end of my table saw. The router he has has a housing/assembly on it, but it's fixed, not "plunge" or height adjustable. Since I am COMPLETELY new to routers, having never used one- are there aftermarket router housings that can be adapted to fit other sizes, or are they all the same size? I don't know the right questions to ask so I haven't been able to find what I'm seeking on the google, but I'm sure it's out there. Any tips or pointers would be helpful. Additionally- it's a Skil model 938, probably from the 80's. Bearings are going out. If I can't find an adjustable plunge assembly, would I be better suited to find a used router kit at a flea market for like 50 bucks, or buy one new? Thanks! Hoping to get routing this weekend!

I want to create some knuckle dusters, heavy duty ones that could pack a punch (I will not be hurting anyone, just for fun and martial arts self-defence :-P). However I have almost no metalworking tools such as a welder, drill press, bandsaw (or other electric saw that cuts metal). The tools I do have are: Mitre saw Normal drill (Variable speed) Hacksaws Scroll/fret saw Table saws Sanders, planers, circular saws. Heavy duty desk vices Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
