Tag blacklist

Is there any way to blacklist a tag?  It's difficult to find any good prop indistructables behind the almost literal mountain of terrible knex content.  I want to see if there are any other techniques for making prop swords or rifles, or handguns, or war hammers, anything like that.  It's a million knex results and like, two results i actually want to see.

Thanks for the tags!

I'm not sure where else to put this, so Thank You to whoever it was that made the tags visible to us regular members on the Answers page again. They really are helpful in deciphering what some of the questions are about. If I'm mistaken, and the tags are still only visible to I'bles staff and FT members, when do I get my first check? ;-)

Hey guys! coolcrafter101 here. How many tags do you usually put in your Instructables? I do about 8-10, but I'd like to know what other people do so I know if I am putting too many or too little. Please comment and answer. Thanks!

Laser Tag Question

So, I found this ( ) (I would comment this question, but i dont have pro) and I'm wondering: A. are the two circuits connected in any way. B. If not, not does the body (Detection) circuit get power? Also, is there anyway to integrate a timer into this so that say, each round could be 10 minutes and you could (somehow) wirelessly start the timer, and it would start (But not count down) from the set time when armed? Thanks.

Laser Tag Hacking

I've been toying with this idea for a while, but I can't go anywhere with it until I get some programming experience (I'm taking a class on it next year, so I'll be able to do it then). I was thinking of this as a potential way to cheat at laser tag (or make it more interesting at least). get a microcontroller, a photoresistor, and plenty of cheap laser diodes with collimators, lenses, etc (a bunch of cheap laser pointers would work for this). use the photoresistor to have the microcontroller "learn" your laser's signal (so that you can get credit for your tagging), and then reproduces that signal at the press of a button. put all the lasers facing outward in a ball and presto, a laser tag grenade. just wondered if anyone could think of a good way to do this.

Tags / Keyword Will Not Save.

Hi. Mimi again!  Thanks for helping to get my video ible to post!  One last issue I'm struggling with. I can't add or save tags / keywords!  See this screenshot: or the file attached.  You will see that there is a field for keywords, but no update or save button.  The other options all have a little "update button" next to the entry field.  I can type in all the keywords I want, but there is no way to save them.  And when I navigate away from the page, there is no evidence that they were ever entered.  Am I missing something? appreciate the help! RFID tag ideas

I've got a handful of RI-TRP-DR2B 32-mm Glass Transponders...Don't really know what to do with them so I figured I'd ask around here.  I've attached a picture and the data sheet for this item.  Has anyone worked with these or similar devices before?  Also, any recommendations for a reader/writer (preferably something that'd work with a Raspberry Pi or Arduino)?  They operate on 134.2 kHz. Thank you.

RFID Tags and Passports

Well, I'm finally getting a passport, due to the new law. Sadly, however, in time for the RFID law as well. I don't want to be carrying one of those around in the airport. Wired said you can disable it by smacking it with a hammer, but it stated that tampering w/ a Passport is against the law, so is doing that against the law? But anyway, I would preferably just want to put it in something isolating, like a lead bag or something. Faraday cages seem the best plan, however I don't know what I will constantly ground to. Hope someone can help :-)

feature request: tag cloud

Hi all, not sure if this is the right place to ask for this, but wouldn't a tag cloud or weighted category list (or whatever it's called) be a nice feature on Instructables as well? One could convert the already entered keywords into user generated tags and then allow reader to add new tags to entries etc. I think tag clouds are flexible than simple categories (although they don't replace them). Feature Request: @user tag

For me instructables is great because of it's outstanding community. Still, I believe this could be an even better place if we worked closer together.  Sure, this can't be forced, but it can be made easier: It would help greatly if a "@user" tag was introduced. It should do two things: Notify the user mentioned, both with an on-page notification (like a PM) as well as through email Produce a clickable link to the user's page The usage cases are plenty. It could be used if... an authors project is based on @user ideas/ project @user has improve upon one's work @user has similar project worth checking out a comment/ forum post is adressed to @user, even though it is not a direct response one knows @user is interested in a instructable/ forum post, but may have missed it Unlike PMs it's a quick and public method to reach out for people. I am very aware that even though this is a "small" idea it may take much effort to develop and integrate throughout the site. Yet I do believe it would be absolutely worth it, as it... motivates authors (it is the greatest feeling to know somebody values the project you've poured all of your heart into) keeps conversations going (I've seen many comments not being responded to just because they haven't used the reply button) brings people with similar ideas and interests together (isn't this what instructables is all about?) It could happen that this will be abused by some people, so "blocking" certain users (to not receive notifications) should be a mandatory function. What do you think about this?

managing tags in image library

While writing an instructable I was uploading picture using the new uploader (is it still new if it's older than 6 months?). Before clicking upload I used the tag files as and input my info. I have found 2 issues with this style of upload. I'd like some feedback. 1) I see the benefit of tagging uploaded photos and the aid in searching. But, is there any plans to offer a folder based system to he image library? Not all the files I upload to this site are relevant enough to include in the tagging section. As far as I've tested, not tagging a file results in the file only being viewable in the 'All' category. If you upload more than 50 pictures you'll be searching for a while to find it again later. I've been using an ad hoc method of using underscores to keep files organized. (ex. of tags: _discussion, _forums, etc. And for hyphenated or 2-word projects, tagging jello_brains or joining words like jellobrains). This is really so the drop-down menu isn't cluttered with all kinds of one-off keywords. Is if there is a folder-based system to use/search our library that isn't reliant on keywords. Which made me think of something else. 2) After re-uploading the photos again with the underscores in the right places (for my own sanity of keeping things where I can find them). I tried deleting the now-redundant files under the old tags. I successfully deleted the files under the tags, but couldn't remove the tag. I had not started writing the instructable yet or identified any keywords anywhere else outside of the upload editor. Is there a method to remove redundant or erroneously-named tags to files? Is there a way to add additional tags to a file after it has been uploaded?

AIML tag usage issue

I have aproblem with tag.My code this like this: HELLO Hello there, wellcome to counselling service Hello there what is your name? _ NAME IS * HELLO THERE WHAT IS YOUR NAME Nice to meet you But it does not work that way. When I use the “My name is Rangi” input after the “Hello there what is your name?” robot input.I checked the syntax with the AIML reference manual at: and other source files which uses the tag.But is does not work. The interpreter I am using to check my aiml files is the PROGRAME# at: But if I use the code as : HELLO Hello there, wellcome to counselling service HELLO THERE WHAT IS _ NAME IS * HELLO THERE WHAT IS Nice to meet you it works. But both text inside tag and the tag should be in block capital and this works only for four words. But I need the bot outputs to be in normal text . I checked in the research paper(page no 6) at : also it says the previous bot output normalized in the same way as the user input, therefore it matches with the text in the tag. Why this happens this way?? Is there anything wrong in the code?? Is the text in the tag works for only few words?? How can I use this in the correct way?? Hope for a solution.Thank you very much.

Arduino not recognizing certain RFID tags? Answered

I have looked at some RFID lock programs, so that I can make own.  Most of them use strcmp to compare the correct tag to the one that has been read.  That is what it did in the program below (modified from the program on the arduino playground) , but nothing happens when I put a tag in front of the reader.  For one tag "led1" is supposed light up and "led2" for the other.  Is the tag not defined right? Did I not use strcmp correctly? Extremely basic laser tag setup?

I'm looking into building a cheap, easy to build, no frills (score, shot counter, reload, etc) laser tag setup. All I'm looking for are: - a modulated 40khz IR emitter, with a muzzle flash LED - shot sound (any easy way to do this with a piezo buzzer, or other really easy way?) - a receiver that sends the signal to a piezo buzzer connected to your ear I'm not gonna go for milestag, because it's too expensive to make my goal of 8 guns with, and I don't have the skills to make it (or time), but I will use its general emitter and receiver setup, just no fancy microcontroller. All I want is a "point and shoot you got me". I AM looking for a long range, though, equal to milestag guns, and for that I'm using its modulated emitter and receiver setup (to avoid sun interference... am I right?). So far I've seen this and this as for attempts at making something old school like this, but as electronic-circuitry inadept as I am, I can't put everything together easily without some help. I've included a photo of my schematic, created with the help of the above links and modified/simplified forms of the milestag sensor... please help with corrections. My primary questions are: - how do I add a sound output to the emitter? A beep is acceptable, but if there's an easy way to add a real shot sound, I'd go for that. - how do I limit the pulse to a short, like 0.25 second time period (I realize this was answered in one of the above links, but I need a circuit diagram or more noobproof explanation for it), then stop the beam? - how would I ground the LED (Vishay tsal 6100) and a non-ultrabright, red LED (the emitter output) in the emitter schematic (left)? Do I need resistors before the ground? - how would I add the piezo buzzer to the output in the receiver schematic? I'm using a Mouser part #  539-PT2130FPQ, in case there are resistors i should know to add. - do I ground the #1 terminals on the 3 terminal 40 khz receiver/demodulator? Originally, they would have been linked to the "data" wire on the milestag module. Please help a budding DIY electronics enthusiast out?

Would it be possible to have a link to add a keyword to an image, in the instructables editor? RIght now, it appears that you have to find the image in your library in order to add a keyword, and if finding a particular image in your library was easy, you'd not be worrying about adding keywords.

Instructable editor - HTML tags filtering

Hi,I try to write an instructable to the math contest, but it is real hard to put inline formulas into the text. Even the simplest things are filtered out.I would like to make it with style and not use pictures for a simple power equation (you know the y=x^2 thing), but without the "^" symbol, just the number with superscript style. In HTML there is the tag to this or you can achieve with inline CSS as well (2), but while the editor show these correctly, these tags are filtered out at the saved instructable. What you think, what is the best solution to this problem? Do I have to use pictures? Or do I have to stay at the "^" symbol? It would be really nice when we have math contest, that this board could understand math styling as well (am I asking much with MATHML language?).
