I roughed out a design (reversed engineered from various pictures) a tennis ball rebounder for a co-worker but it doesn’t look like he has the interest to build it anymore. It’s a nice piece of equipment for anyone that likes to play tennis since you can set it up in driveway or basement. Here are a couple of examples: Video 1 Video 2 I would like to do an instructables collaboration on the project with someone that would find this useful. I would tweak the design (overall size, hardware, etc.) with your inputs. Your responsibilities: Buy the materials which I’m estimating at less than $100. Note that purchased versions cost up to $500. Build it - requires only a saw and drill Take a few pictures of the build and final product. Help with the documentation if needed In the end, it is your rebounder to enjoy. See my past instrucables for examples of my work/documentation.

Alright, so ive been into making all sorts of cannons whether they are pneumatic or hairspray, and recently I've been wanting to build a pneumatic tennisball cannon. i came across halve a dozen empty fire extinguishers, i am still deciding if i should use one as the chamber. i am using an electronic sprinkler valve and a 2 1/2" barrel i am also getting a 12 volt (dc) car air compressor (125 psi) and i am going to incorporate this somewhere in the cannon, the air compressor is really small so i could make it built in. i really want to make this cannon portable but i am concerned about the weight of it with the fire extinguisher tank, Any Ideas?

I have some pictures to show it lol. the sound was so loud that i can not hear a thing out of my right ear except a loud ringing. is that a good thing?lol heres the pics.

I need help making glow in the dark tennis balls for a friend. these tennis balls will actually be used for tennis, and should be able to be seen clearly in the dark. If you have any ideas on how to get a tennis ball to glow in the dark, suggestions on glow in the dark paint, or anything else relating to this project, I would be glad to hear about it.

I was shooting my tennis ball cannon today, and i was wondering if there was a way to find out the altitude of the ball using the time it was airborne and the weight of the ball. I have no idea how to approach this, i dont know of any math formulas that we've learned so far that can compute this. I think it would have to factor in drag, gravity, the weight of the ball, and how long it was in the air. I just dont know how to do it. If anyone with a better understanding of physics and mathematics can help me out, or point me in the right direction, it would really help me out! thanks!

Tennis-bot serves to collect the dozens of tennis balls scattered on the court during a lesson. Using shape recognition, the robot continuously collects balls from the court and returns them to a hopper device. The tennis instructor retrieves balls from the top half of the hopper manually; the bottom half serves as a docking, recharging, and storage area for the robot. The robot's actions allow for a more continuous and productive lesson. Balls on the court are sensed by shape and color recognition cameras on the bot and are then collected with velcro hook pads. To ensure only the tennis balls belonging to the bot's owner are collected, some sort of marking may be applied to the balls. A small storage area on top of the tennis-bot holds the balls temporarily until the robot returns to the main hopper and deposits them there. The bot may also incorporate a shooting device to return balls to players. During a lesson, most tennis balls are hit behind the instructor and end up between the base line and the fence. With a line recognition camera, tennis-bot will be able to limit its search to this area. To help the robot keep track of the its position and to aid more efficient ball retrieval, an internal map system will be used.

I was thinking about using 3 pringles cans. I'd cut the metal bottoms off of 2 of them and tape them together ontop of the third one, which still has the metal. Then I'd tape/glue a capacitor from a digital camera onto the tennis ball and charge it up. It would hit the bottom, create a spark, and ignite the fuel. Would this work?

I was interested in building a tennis ball cannon, and have seen breech-loading ones in videos. Does anyone know of free plans for one? I was also wondering if there is a disadvantage to ABS other than the slight cost difference. I'm looking for safety and an efficent barrel-to-tank ratio. How would one make a resettable pressure release in the case of some sort of accidental over pressure?
Question by nlaluzerne
I started thinking about how the tube material could be improved. Although I love the ghetto look of pringles wrapped in the invincible duct tape, improvements can be made. You could use PVC or ABS for the tube, it wouldnt need pressure rating because Im sure this thing wouldnt have enough power to explode the pringles/tape team. This is rather cheap and you could just glue on an endcap. Then a BBQ ignitor can be threaded in, a ring to define the chamber and barrel and fuel sprayed in! However getting the perfect cost/durability/strength ratio is hard.

I have a pair of white tissue tennis that I want to dress up. I chose an image from a book. I'm also planning to shred the image so it can fit. The only problem is: How do I transfer the image into the tennis tissue? I heard of a tissue decoupage, but I don't mind transfering the image by hand (with ink, pens and that stuff) but it must be water-proof. Check out the images so you can understand what I'm planning to do :) Thank you all for you answers.

I play ping pong ALOT, but since my brothers moved out to college I can't play anymore. I've looked all over the Internet but I can't find any knex ping pong ball thrower/shooter/whatever. So the challenge is (since I can't make one) to create an automated (gravity or motor powered) ping pong ball thrower preferably out of knex. It would be greatly appreciated. I just watched a Mythbusters where they made a pneumatic soda can gun. Go to 5:50 in this video to see their description of it. Go to 7:00 to see it in action. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMYuQ5daXxk&feature;=related My questions are: what is the "fast acting valve" he used? How do you refill that thing? Anyone seen an instructable for something similar? I've seen lots of PVC versions, but I like the metal version because it's sexier looking, and potentially higher pressure/power. Thanks!

CELEBRATIONS have just finished at the Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, New York, for the 50th anniversary of a milestone that had nothing to do with basic physics research. In October 1958, nuclear physicist William Higinbotham created one of the world's first video games, called Tennis for Two.Officially, his goal was to liven up displays at the lab's annual visitors' day, and in that he succeeded. Hundreds of people lined up to bat a glowing spot back and forth across the video screen of a common or garden laboratory oscilloscope.Unofficially, Feedback suspects he was really just goofing off on a slow day, or waiting around with nothing to do when the lab's particle accelerator was broken, being maintained or otherwise failing to deliver the goods. Higinbotham himself said the idea came to him while reading the manual for an early computer which could plot the course of a missile or a bouncing ball on an oscilloscope screen. He then designed suitable circuits and control boxes - Stone Age versions of today's joysticks - so that two players could bat an electronic ball to each other across the screen. The game was adapted for a larger screen, but eventually forgotten until 1982, when Creative Computing magazine heard about it and thought it might be the first video game. With the invention far enough behind for him not to worry about accounting for time wasted on the government payroll, Higinbotham claimed credit for Tennis for Two.Such primitive video games are old hat now, but hundreds of physicists including our own Kelseymh are still waiting for the completion of repairs to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN. What might they be inventing this time, while sitting around twiddling their thumbs?New Scientist Article.Tennis For Two Simulator (untried by your correspondent)

I am hoping to write with somebody on an experimentation novella of sci-fiction. I have a plot and idea, would like to write the novella using a tennis style of writing alternating chapters. I may self-published (Lulu.com). Working under the CC licenses. Wouldn't at all mind having a long term writing partner. Comment here or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org! :D

Help! I published a question - a request for help - as an Instructable and just put it in the Tech section. Now all the comments say I was wrong, that I should have published in the FORUMS. Oh, I didn't know. I just started with "Submit" and ended with "Publish" and now all the little old ladies in tennis shoes are circling for the kill. I had no idea I was breaking a taboo; I just wanted to ask for help. PLEASE tell me if I can remove my whole Instructable from where it is and put it into FORUMS. Is it possible to drag & drop the whole thing, pictures included? Or do I have to do each little thing all over again? (My Instructable is entitled: "Question on using a Peltier/TEC device for air temperature control - Help please")
