Adapted tricycle

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "I would like my son to get some form of movement with his legs, at least I know he is moving his knees and ankles. We have a toy tricycle, but he only sits on it, he cannot put his feet on the pedals without support." Happy to hear your ideas! Movement simulator platform

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "The project proposal is called a \"Movement Simulation Platform\" which is intended to provide amazing sensory experiences for our students who would not be easily accessible to them otherwise.  The idea is to have the students pushed onto a large platform in their wheelchairs in front of a large screen (screen not part of project request).  On the screen will play some fantastic scenes such as hiking up a mountain, visiting different countries, driving a car, riding a roller coaster, etc.  The platform will also allow for very minor movements in all directions through the assistance of the adult holding the wheelchair (also standing on the platform).  We are imagining a very small displacement of movement in all directions (similar to a rocker board).  The platform would need to be a good size with borders and possibly a way to secure the wheelchair to the platform." Ottobock Kimba iPad Stand

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for an iPad stand issue in response to the following request: My daughter Talie uses an iPad daily both at school for educational purpases and at home to keep her occupied during g-tube feedings. Right now her iPad sits on the tray of her wheelchair (Ottobock Kimba) and she bends over it as she prefers to use her lip and nose causing her neck and back pain. We would love to have a stand that would hold her iPad at face level so she can use it without bending over. Or alternatively, an adapted stylus that can be attached to her nose or chin. All of the commercial stands we have seen would not be stable enough for her use. She has very high tone and her movements are rapid and jerky. She needs something that would allow her to tap the screen without the iPad moving or falling over. Her OT at school fabricated a mouth stick for her but she gets tired of holding it in her mouth and when she puts it down to talk she cannot retrieve it. Headpieces with stylus' are much too big for her little head. Happy to hear your ideas! Hugging device

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "I apologize for posting again so soon, but I forgot to describe my disability, and why I'm physically unable to hug someone. I was born with a rare form of Muscular Dystrophy called Nemaline Myopathy. My disability affects me in many ways, but in this case, I'm unable to independently raise my arms, wrap them around someone, and have them stay in place. A device I'm seeking would have the ability to suspend my arms in the air, and be able to bring them together. One suggestion was to somehow hook it up to a motor, and operate the device by a remote. Also, when I was a kid, I had a device that was like a sling for my arms. The two slings were attached to two separate metal rods on both sides of me that were able to attach and detach from the back of my wheelchair. Someone would slide my arms into the sleeves, and I was able to bring my arms together, or do various tasks, like typing, with my arms suspended in the sling. I do have the strength to squeeze my arms together, but without assistance, my arms eventually do slide down due to gravity. A device similar to the sling idea would probably be ideal, plus no motor or electronic devices would be needed. I realize that this project could be timely, and possibly expensive, but to me it's worth it. I'd love to be able to give someone that I care about a real hug, and experience another form of intimacy and closeness." Happy to hear your ideas! T.O. Chapter of Tetra needs machinist

Hi, the Toronto chapter of the Tetra Society is looking for a machinist within the city who can volunteer some time and a machine shop. Tetra is a volunteer organization dedicated to designing and building assistive devices and adaptations that improve the quality of life for people with disabilities. Tetra would pay for the materials used, and the volunteer machinist may receive a tax receipt for the hours the machine shop is used for Tetra projects. If you know of a machinist in Toronto who's willing to volunteer time and shop space please let us know. Thanks.

Portable change table

We are running in partnership with other agencies and the City of Toronto, Parks Forestry and Recreation an accessible swim program for people with physical disabilities. Many of our participants require that they change in a lying down position and thus require a "change table". At this point we are looking at two locations that require this. Challenges include storage as storage space is of high premium at the pools. It would have to be at a height that would be comfortable for the support staff. It should be wide enough to be able to turn a person on their side safely. Sturdy enough to be able to handle up to 350lbs safely. Should be folding (for storage), and have wheels that lock so it can be moved easily. We assume wood is the best material for this (or easiest to work with), but we are open to suggestions. It should also be long enough. We have not come with specific numbers (how many inches/cm wide or high e.g.). For this some of us involved in this program need to discuss the details. However, you may have some questions too, so if you let us know we can provide answers to your questions. A few years we purchased a portable massage table. However, it is not wide enough to accommodate some of our participants with being turned safely. Portable raised toilet seat

We are in search for ideas and/or off-the-shelf solutions for a mobility and toileting issue in response to the following request: "When I go out visiting or out on a shopping trip I often find the toilet seats too low, so I would like to see if a portable raised toilet seat could be designed. All I can find are the raised toilet seats where the existing toilet seat needs to be removed and then the raised toilet seat needs to be screwed on. [A possible solution would be to] create an inflatable one that can be attached to an existing toilet seat with something like velcro and maybe have a stiff ridge that can be secured under the existing toilet seat." How To Inflate Plastic Bottles- into balloons- With Heat and Air Pressure?

1).  I would like to use PET drinking water bottles  and polyethylene plastic bottles ( taco Sauce, mustard, plastic juice bottles)- for insulation in an  attic? Choice 1). using a heat source like a heat gun and my air compressor can I inflate old PET plastic water bottles - into balloons to act as insulation spheres ?   Each week  I would spend time turning the plastic bottles into thin-walled spheres that would fill up the attic with light-weight spheres- maybe the size of a soccer ball?  . 2). If Not  choice 1). lets learn how to process plastic bags and packaging into a shredded stringy material to do the attic insulation job. The source of bottles is endless and I hate recycling these to the city and then purchasing expensive fiberglass batt insulation at $40 per roll.  Any DIY wizards try this stuff?  I could literally mega-insulate the attic. If treating the material with Sodium tetra-borate  borax -to get a fire resistance that is doable too. They make clothes, blankets, molded items and padding routinely from old bottles: Why can't I? I would build a shredder or modify a branch shredder machine to do this and make it my recycling hobby over the long term.
