How thick is the stock of a thompson submachine gun? Answered

Hello guys, My question is how thick is the stock? Length I got figured out the only thing I don't know is the  thickness of the stock. Some sources suggest that it is 35mm, 50mm or 70mm thick. I seriously have no idea although 70mm seems a little bit to thick. I need to know it for a presentation but no site seems to carry the information... So I'm hoping somebody who owns one can give me the information or otherwise someone with other WW2 weapons as it seems that pretty much all the stocks look evenly thick...

I have a desk with a glass surface and have this inspiration to mount the tablets that I use as additional monitors under the glass. I need to replace it with something that will allow the touch inputs through it. Ill settle for any solid transparent material but I need it too have a decent thickness that I can maintain roughly the same strength of the glass material as part of the pretense is I would like to be able to still set things on top of the desk and use it as a workspace.

EVA thickness for solar cells? Answered

Does it matter what thickness I use to encapsulate my solar cells?  I have gone with a 0.23 mm sheet and the sales rep is trying to get me to buy the 0.4mm sheet which is more expensive saying that the lighting conditions will be better off than on the thinner eva. I don't really believe that the thicker sheet would allow the solar cell / panel to increase the power generation but i have no experience in this nor could i find a forum that discusses this topic.  What have you guys found? does the eva thickness matter? Thanks!

What are the dimensions of pallet wood? Answered

Yes, I've searched. Also, I don't mean what are the dimensions of the pallets in general, I mean the wooden planks they're made of. PS: I realize it may vary. Estimates are OK. I'm mainly worried about thickness. Thanks for any help.

Polycarbonate panel thickness for secure windows? Answered

I need to glaze 16 small panes (430 x 275 mm) in very strong, cast aluminium window frames (8 per frame, either side of the door). Is 3 mm frosted polycarbonate going to be impact resistant enough to keep people out? The building these windows are part of is in a fairly remote place, so security is a concern but for cost and aesthetic reasons we don't want to glaze with glass and install a metal security screen. The current ugly solution is boarding them up and securing with screws but this doesn't allow us light inside. Cost is a consideration since I've been given permission by the company that owns the land to reglaze them and if I provide the labour they will supply the materials. 16 off 3 mm sheets, £3.85 each = £61.60 16 off 4 mm sheets, £5.14 each = £82.24 16 off 6 mm sheets, £7.70 each = £123.20 I've found lots of sites shouting "yeah polycarb is badass! It's unbreakable!" but not one that gives an idea for thinner sheets. Am I wasting money by going for thicker sheets? Or if someone's trying to get in might a 3 mm sheet be breakable?

I need to cut kind of thick plastic

I have these "universal" plastic speaker adapters:http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?g=103200&i;=142SA69&tp;=919But the hole in my car is too small to mount the speaker on top, and the hole in the plastic is just slightly too small to fit the surround of the speaker if I mount it from the bottom. I figure it will be a lot easier to widen the hole in the plastic rather than in the car's sheet metal, but it's still not easy. Any tips? I've tried a box cutter knife, pocket knife, soldering iron, torch with soldering iron attachment, chisel, etc. Probably gave myself cancer from the fumes from trying to melt it. It's not terribly tough plastic, but it's kind of thick, so it's not easy. Plus it's difficult to cut a circle from the inside. I need to increase it from 13 cm diameter to 13.5 cm.

What components would be needed to build an ultrasonic thickness gauge to measure paint the thickness of paint coatings?

I need an ultrasonic thickness gauge, they work by sending a pulse through the material being measured (paint in this case). When the pulse strikes a denser material it returns to the sensor, the delay from the time of the pulse being sent to being received gives the depth. I anyone knows the components that would be needed, or ideally, a set of schematics could you be so kind as to help me out. Thank you.

Im not really looking for extremely thick (preferrably unwaxed) cotton cord, just something that's about 4-5 mm in diameter. I'm not even sure that what I'm talking about is called cotton cord, but its kinda like paracord with no inner strands and a braided cotton sheath.

How to set thickness of the wall with thread? - confetti launcher

We are working with my kids on CAD project - precisely on a simple pressure valve for DIY confetti launcher. Yesterday we decided to design a thread, which assembles nipple of the valve to the wall . We prefer 1.6 mm wall (0.064 inch) because that saves volume and is enough for 1450psi air in case of stainless stell grade 310 (my son found a piece of SS at home, so we decided to use it). However, I'm afraid that in case of turning a thread there would be a need of redesigning wall thickness.  Question: How much thicker should be a wall for 1450psi (working pressure, pumped air or co2) if we add a thread reinforced with green Loctite (hard glue for threads)? What is optimal metric thread for that pressure?  I would be very grateful for standard, formula or table.

What thickness of plexiglass is best to use for a water block? Answered

Ok, so about three months ago I bought a 168W peltier unit off of ebay. I wanted to fool around with the cold side, the only problem was that I did not have a large enough heatsink to disapate the heat. And thus the peltier would overheat after 20 seconds. So last week I decided to make a water block out of the heatsink, the design was very simple, encase the heasink in plexiglass and add two hose barbs. Now my problem is that I can't decide on the thickness of plexiglass I want to use, 1/16" would be nice but I worry that it will break, and 1/8" is a little more expensive. Any ideas?

Does the strength of the electromagnetic field of a coil depends upon the thickness of the wire? Answered

Whenever I have problems with the magnetic field strength of an electromagnet people tell to use a finer wire, I have some, its thickness is not more then the thickness of a hair, but whenever I use it, I have difficulty in connecting it with the battery because it's so thin it easily breaks off, and when I turn on the switch, it burns up instantly, maybe I am not using enough length of it. So does the field strength really increase with the decrease in thickness of the same length of the wire and same diameter of the coil, if it does than why?

Which would be better for a makeshift crossbow, thick rubber or laminated bamboo?

I was going to make this instructable on another sort of paper crossbow, because I promised that I would make a new version of it. But then I just decided to make a real crossbow. And so it got me thinking; should it be laminated bamboo or just a piece of rubber.      I know it will be very strong if I used laminated bamboo, but then again my hands are weak so I'm gonna' have to improvise a windlass for that. I'll have to do the same if I use really thick rubber. If you have any other suggestions for my ballista looking future crossbow, then bring it. I don't want to lose my hands while making and operating this thing.

How to solder newer thick cables and new 3.55 jack for Vintage headphone Mod?

I purchased a set of crystal radio headphones on ebay which I wish to remod into working headphones. Instead of using the same cableing that is already on a set of regular headphones I wish to install in the old ones, I wish to solder new, thicker wireing onto the crystal radio cups and solder a new 3.55 mm gold jack onto the ends. To help you understand there are 2 good tutorials online , but they dont explain what type of new wire to get or how to solder a new jack on. I am not 100% sure what type of audio wire to purchase. All the wire I see at the electronics store is the red or black kind, with the one solid copper wire or the regular gold speaker wire.. but headphone wire is different because it has multiple colored strands that I need to twist into 3 for Left/Right/Ground https://www.instructables.com/id/vintage-wartime-radio-headphones/ and http://steampunkworkshop.com/g-headphones.shtml I like the look of re-wireing new cable to the outside of the cups, instead of just running the same cable straight through the cups. New, thicker wire will stand up better and the new jack would last longer as well. I was thinking wire between size 18-22 maybe?

Good type/thickness for a clear acrylic sheet which may(will) be taking occasional impact? Answered

I've got a martial arts gym setup in my basement, and we're tight on space. There's a lot of stuff I have hanging on the walls (sword racks, training pads, weaponry, the like) and I'm looking to put up some acrylic sheets or something similar, hinging up at the ceiling, so that that stuff is protected, and more importantly, that if a sparring session gets a little wild, nobody is going to get thrown against a wall of (potentially sharp) gear.  Home Depot sells acrylic sheets, and I'm thinking I can fashion something workable to support them, but they're not super cheap, and I don't particularly want to waste money on something that will break the first time someone bumps into it. Any ideas? I'm not springing for bullet-proof glass- lemme rule that one out. TL;DR: Impact-absorbing clear plastics, sold in ~40"x~20" sheets?
