Any tips?

I created my "first" instructable in quite some time, and I feel I may be a bit rusty.  (took a while to pop up on the site too....) So I would appreciate any tips or hints as to how I can improve on future projects!  Gimme a holla! https://www.instructables.com/id/Coco-Lanterns/

Tips on Welding

This is s a general forum for people to post questions and tips they have found over the time they've spent welding My question/tip is this - I recently had to weld two pieces of oddly shaped steel together. Placement and alignment was important for me but the shapes of the steel pieces made clamping them together a bit of a mission. My solution was to position and hold the pieces of steel using prestik (probably the south african equivalent of U.S. bluetack - maybe chewing gum could work) and then the steel pieces didn't move while I tacked them in place. My question is obviously whether this is a questionable practice because of fumes (I didn't notice any) or weakening of the weld from the prestik inclusion (it seems to be holding quite nicely though and the piece is now the switch activator for a press strip feeder. If you can't think of any problems then its a tip

Tips and Hints

This is my invention for the day.  Use of magnetic tool holders is a very old, but handy way to organize tools.  My contribution to Magnetic Tool Holders is to use small, strong magnets (12 mm diameter) attached to a metal bar or in the photo, to my card table edge.  That in itself is still not very significant. However HOW the tools are hung from the magnets is significant. The problem:  If I put the magnets vertically and hang the tools vertically, the surface area of the magnet is such that often the attraction between the tool and the magnet causes the magnet to stay with the tool instead of with the table.  A magnet sticking to the tool, can be very annoying. The solution:  Placing the magnets horizontally--at the bottom--AND hanging the tools by their tips allows for very easy detachment and attachment.  The magnetic force is strong enough to hold some very heavy tools, like the pliers or long nose pliers without any difficulty.  The tools are easily removed and easily replaced.  This would also apply to any magnetic strip.   The key thought of the day: Hang tools from magnetic tool holders by their tips. Of course, another solution is to glue the magnets to the supporting bar--wood or metal--and clamp the supporting bar to the table.  That works as well, but is more permanent and is a little more work.  Also, if the magnets are allowed to attach by their full surface area to the tools, the tools are hard to remove.

Tips for exercising?

Since I'm entering a new school for the 2010-2011 school year, ( which means 3 schools will combine into one) I thought I might lose weight. Me, a bit tubby at 92.5 pounds, (As of August 17, 2010) So I decided to run. Everyday, I do half a mile running, and half a mile walking. I started 3 days ago, and I've already seen improvement. I was 93.5 lbs after 1 run. After a bit of cool down, I do sit ups. I've got my MP3 player going (The Rocky Theme-ULTIMATE MOTIVATOR) as I run. Any tips? I don't do sports, and I try not to eat after 8:00. I've got running shoes and a appropriate outfit. I'd like to see what everybody can say to me. -NYPA

Tips / Tricks Section

It would be good to have a TIPS/TRICKS category.  Sometimes i have some good info somebody else might be able to use. Not enough for a full Instructable. Its a tip/trick that doesn't take a lot of explanation.  Example ible.  I was forced to add more pictures just to get the ible to publish. I suppose those additional pictures help, but not really needed for this particular tip to be valid. So i suggest a TIP/TRICK section or something along those lines

School Video Tips

In my reading/gifted/advanced class, we are supposed to make a documentary showing some of our community's problems. We also have to show how we plan to fix them, too. (I'm working alone)In language arts, we were put into groups to come up with some advertisement for a fictional business or project. It cannot be an existing product or business, either. We have 5 people in our group, and have chosen to use a clothing store as a thing to advertise. So that is two videos, a commercial, and a documentary (we are studying persuasive techniques). I wanted to do a good job on these, so does anyone have any tips? Any tips would do, from lighting to tips on acting. I like making movies, and below are some of my quick videos I made, for Youtube. This one took me about 15 minutes, so it is kinda crappy: Hope you liked them!

Rectangle accuracy tip...

Well, I made a discovery when I was messing around with some shells, I found that if you load a red rod into your rectangle, then put a shell of 5 silver spacers all the way back on the red rod... The red rod then flies extremely straight. The shell then falls straight down, where you can use it again if you want. P.s. This also works for yellow, and grey rods.P.p.s. You can also do the same thing for oodammo, but with only one silver spacer.TRY IT OUT PEOPLE=P

Dremel Tips/Tricks

Hi, I just got my Dremel yesterday (multipro 285 for £20) it ROCKS but I thought it would be good to have a forum topic for people to post tips/tricks about using their Dremel that they have pivked up/ made up.Mine is this (Its in pdf format) but basically it is a way to use you dremel to quickly "Desolder" pcbs (~5 minutes or less per board!). Wht you do is put on a coarse (~60 grit) sanding drum and go over the back of the pcb. It is very dusty but afterwards the components just need a small pul with some pliars and your done.

Invisalign removal tips? Answered

Just got my first set of Invisalign trays today and am close to giving up.  Two nails folded over backwards, and another  just tore to the quick... typing this is not easy.  Got home and tried to shape a toothbrush handle to what made sense (didn't work) and then yanked with a 000 crochet hook. (Visions of emergency rooms dancing in my head). I've just ordered a set of Outies, although  the reviews say the plastic is brittle and breaks easily.  So,  ible family,  you are  the people most likely to have come up with  the perfect tool or method. Please share your wisdom.

February will be Tool Tips month here at Instructables and we want to see people documenting how to use their favorite tools. The tools that can be written about are pretty broad. If you want to enter an Instructable, just remember to publish it from Feb 1 - 29.

Tips for new Blackberry user?

Suddenly I got an overwhelming urge for a Blackberry so I went down to the local telco store and got myself a BlackBerry Curve 8310 (the one with the camera and GPS). Does anyone have any tips or pointer to good websites for blackberries except the official blackberry-site and handango?

Photos Display Without Tips

I just published an instructable (here), and the tip text displays when I edit, and sometimes when I view it, but usually it does not display.  For example in the intro, the first pic (of the cake) has 5 tip boxes, and the second (of the supplies) has 7.  The pictures are there, but usually (although not always) no boxes or tips are visible. Thoughts?

Everlasting Easter eggs tips?

We don't eat much eggs in this house hold let alone boiled eggs so it would be a waste to just make, colour and then eventually throw out those Easter eggs after words. But I still want to have some coloured Easter eggs to make a cheery atmosphere. Colouring raw eggs is not practical either.  So I was thinking taking eggs that I would use to make cakes est and instead of just cracking I would just make a small hole on one end to let the yoke out in the process preserving the egg shells. Now with those egg shells, can I pour in Plaster of Paris to replace the yokes that were in them? So I can get a sort of real egg feeling? Then colouring them when dry? What do you think?
