I could of sworn there was just a how do you feature forum topic. Kruser said kiteman featured my instructable, so I checked my instructable to say if it says anything about kiteman, and it didn't. So I went back to the forums and it isn't here anymore!

I (along with other members of the Instructables Community) have noticed a problem with bumped topics. Topics that were originally posted over 2 years ago are being bumped to the top of the forums. In most cases this is due to comments that don't even contribute to the conversation. What solutions are there to this problem? I don't like the idea of locking topics. This puts a stop to contributions that might actually be useful. What solutions do you guys have?

So I recently entered the hidden doors/compartments contest (my first), and was thinking that it would be nice to know if people are voting for me... just suggesting the addition of a vote counter (unless it exists and I missed it), not necessarily to see other peoples popularity, but just to see how you yourself are doing.

Hello. I have no idea how you do it. In a good way, I am jealous. Some of you can become inspired by relativly nothing and make something amazing. I on the other hand, have apparently a medical lack of inspiration. Maybe I'm just lazy. I know its not imagination, because once i get somethign it flys around doing everything in my head. Enough about me. I know you love me, but maybe later, okay? What I really created this topic for is for thse of you like me, and the rest of you. Post particularly amazing and inspiring things. What i mean is, artistic-wise. Post things that would inspire someone to draw/paint/aret-create, something amazing. Who-kn ows, besides +10 Karma for you, maybe the creator will love you long time?

Lately there have been a ton of topics that just get stuck for no reason at all. Here's where to post them when you make a perfectly legitimate, and not possibly controversial or offensive topic but it just won't show up after a period of several hours. If you spam or post controversial things, I'll delete and repost the topic. This is only for stuff that gets stuck for no apparent reason, as poor Kiteman keeps having happen to him.

Hi, I noticed that a lot of forum topics, when clicked, link you to the pro page. I know this is because they are pro-only forums. However, there is no way to identify a pro topic from a free topic. My suggestion is that we add a pro symbol before or after the topic name so that we know what is what, and don't waste our time clicking on it. Any other ideas? -J

Member nutsandbolts_64 reports: Uh, I know it's off topic, but I can't post anything BUT comments here. Yes, I am overemphasizing because I can't post a question or forum topic (and the like) so I have no other choice but to post a comment somewhere on the bugs section.

Zachninme put together this sweet way to embed slideshows in forum topics. I'm posting it because it requires HTML in the body of the text, and only admins can do that. What do you think? Is this something you would use? The images in the Slideshow below are from this forum post. They are not from an existing Slideshow.Show/Hide Slideshow

Its not huge, but its a bit confusing. In some places, you call them "posts" and "replies", whereas others you refer to them as "topics" and "posts". The overlapping "posts", where it takes on two different meanings, is slightly annoying. I personally prefer the latter method, just from prior experience.

Ok, so I have noticed some forum topics that seem to serve no purpose, and thought I would bring this to the community's attention. An example of one of these posts would be Knexfreak's topic about how he is going on holiday. These posts are getting the K'nex community laughed at, quite frankly, and while sarcasm may be hard to pick up on on the internet, some others must have noticed at least something. And at least if you want to post some tat, use correct grammar and spelling. This is what mainly contributes to the stereotypical view of the 'K'nexer'. Or you could continue, as I did chuckle at the whole 'fourever' dialolgue in kookoo for knex's post. Thank you for that, caitlinsdad and others. 'Non-K'nexers' may want to use this topic to give advice to the K'nex community. Also, my name seems silly and has stopped me posting on other 'non-K'nex' instructables more than once , in fear of ridicule. Any ideas for a shiny new name are welcome.

I've been searching for a new project since my last, which i have finally finished for good. I was hoping to work with some altoids tins, as I have about twenty of the things taking up space in my room. After some research, I noted that the current altoids projects haven't really changed in about a year, so, if you've got an idea, i'm all for it. Please, feel free for any suggestions. Just don't talk like you drunken a thousand long-island iced-teas.

Is there a contest about the things that can be done with wood pallets? Ever since I saw an instructible showing how to take apart a pallet as well as the amount of wood used to make them, I have wondered if there has ever been a contest to show how useful they can be as potentially free lumber and hardware. After all the uses for pallets that i've looked up on the internet, there are about less than 50 uses for recyclable pallets, keeping these materials from ending up in a bonfire or a landfill. The link below can explain quite a bit about this subject. http://www.greenecoservices.com/31-ways-to-reuse-wood-pallets-make-money/ Maybe a way to lessen the number of pallets that end up being wasted in garbage can be achieved if there was a contest that encouraged the recycling of wood pallets. Anything that can be made from a pallet would be eligible to win whatever prize this contest would have. I personally think this would be a good idea to try. But do any of you think this would be a good contest idea?

I posted a new forum topic in Burning Questions which did not appear. After a few days I figured that maybe I had posted in the wrong section so I reposted in Science, Tech, and Wanted. Non of which are appearing. I deleted the post under Burning Questions, but the rest are not appearing. Any thoughts?

About 20 minutes ago, I created a forum topic https://www.instructables.com/community/My-chemistry-textbook-was-right-all-along/. I went to the Physics Group and used the + new topic link to create the posting, classifying it in Forums : Science. The topic is not showing up in the Community "recent" listing, even after I added a bump-comment myself. Could Ed, Rachel, or somebody give the database a kick? Thanks!
Topic by kelseymh | last reply
When I pull up a specific Community Forum, the default behaviour is to show topics sorted by "recent" -- which one has had a comment added now? However, there are some topics which seem to "stick" at the top of the list, for example "Instructables Store" and "World's Largest Piñata" in Community Blog. These "always recent" topics appear to come either from Robot or from I'bles Staff.

As a participant in AngryRedHead's Photo challenge, I've noticed that, as the thread gets longer, navigating it to find my past comments and replies is getting... odd. Using the next and previous buttons seems mixed up. Sometimes you don't get a new set of comments, sometimes you get a few extra comments in between the ones you already saw, sometimes nothing happens. Similar things happen on other topics with large numbers of responses. (Running XP and up-to-date FireFox)

As part of the Answers Release, it looks like a new minor feature has been deployed. All comments from the author of a Forum topic are identified with a little "(author)" next to their username. The same is true for comments to Instructables. Very useful!
Topic by kelseymh | last reply
In the normal lists of Forum topics under Community (e.g., Science) some of the entries have "posted ... in XYZ" showing from which Group the topic originated. It would be very helpful to have that information in my own list of topics.

I just noticed something for the first time: Are you ready to publish? If you still need more time to complete your post, you can access it here when you return from the shop. Shows in the info box when you publish a new forum topic. Just wondering what shop that would be or if it is a bug, forgotten easter egg or something else. I know, I should just ignore it as ignorance can be a bliss, but now that I noticed it the shop is nagging me.... On a different topic: Also would be nice to have a category for site related things here. Sometimes it is just a question and not really worth posting it as a bug or feedback in the forum.

Hello. I apologize in advance for my English :-) I have the following problem. I discovered an interesting topic, and found that I did not authorize. Clicked "Login" - "Google +" and logged in. Then I went back to an interesting topic, and it looked like I was not authorized. So I was not able to add the topic to the collection :-( On other topics and the whole site everything looks fine (authorized).

In the first picture, you can see that sometimes I don't get all of the forum topics. Any ideas why? In the second picture, you can see that on forum topics, and only forum topics, I can't see the box with the rating or who published it etc. (Although I can on other stuff) Any ideas on that are also appreciated. Also on a similar note, why is the button for sorting by rating gone?

A new Forum Category called The FLOPHOUSE... or? I'd love to see a place for members to relax, share photos and generally commiserate and laugh over Intsructables-gone-wrong. It could be a whole lotta fun! My most recent flop (pictured) involved Grilled Pork Tenderloin marinated in a Pineapple chipotle sauce. It looked SO good and tasted SO WRONG! lol... I'm still tweaking a different grilling recipe so the Grillmaster won't catch his or herself on fire. 8-/ What are your thoughts on this?

Not sure if this is a bug or another problem... Tried to post a new topic in the Shop Tech forum asking about when the Brooklyn Chapter was opening... But when I tried to click on "preview" I kept getting an error message saying I did not have permission to do that. I'm a pro member, and I thought we could post in the forums.

I'm subscribed to the RSS feeds for Instructables, News, Forum Topics, Comments (to me), and my Personal Messages Inbox. And they all repeatedly send me the forum topics. Most of the "new" items I get in all of my Instructables RSS feeds have already been sent to me before. It's incredibly annoying.

After getting a comment on a very old topic and noticing some come up it occurred to me that giving users the capacity to close their old topics or possibly leave it at the discretion of a time limit or a team of, well not quite executioners but something or other may be rather useful, mainly to stop old topics coming back up without reason, some stay active for a very long time, others just occasionally pop up. If the topics were merely closed but still existent then they'd still be available for reference and any specific comments about something could be sent to the user in question's orangeboard, it's just a thought, I'm not saying all old topics need taken out back and, eh sent to the farm but it might keep the forums a bit fresher, without causing confusion...

Is there a delay between posting a forum topic, and when it actually shows up? I just posted this question: https://www.instructables.com/community/I-am-confused-Conflicting-emails/ I can see the individual topic, it exists in the breadcrumbs at the top it says it is in the help: contests forum but if you click those breadcrumbs, the topic does not appear in the forum. It exists all by itself, if you have a direct link. but it does not exist in the category so I can't see how anyone would ever see it. Are threads screened or something before they will appear in their category?

Some people noticed i wrote a comment on Kiteman's "Salute to a hero" topic. I am sorry about writing the comments I wrote. I know Bill Parker was a hero, but on the internet it's hard to recognize things. What i thought was people didn't post anything because they were like "why?" on the topic. Again, i am very sorry, and i pay respects to Bill. -NYPA.

I think it would be nice to have some form of deliniation between the "normal" forum posts and the "pro" formal posts when browsing the forum. i tend to look through the forum in the "view all" mode sorted by date. this results in seeing a bunch of interestingly named forum topics (like all the aspie ones) however i go to click on it and blamo "why not become a pro member". i don't have anything against going pro (except for fund shortages), but it would be nice to not be taunted with the pro topics that i can't view
