Really I was, I got into work, and had no real tasks to accomplish since my mentor was home sick and his boss was sick. Except she was so sick she asked me to do her job. So I got to spend 9 hours escorting 4 PE's all over to different locations. Climbing on roofs, crawling through mechanical rooms. digging things up, getting wet and dirty, all while trying to maintain a professional appearance. I loved it! I can't even express how much I love going to work, being an engineer is awesome. But then I got home to discover a microburst had hit our neighborhood. And was filled with anticipatory dread as I noticed the 65 foot oak in front of my house was no longer visible over the neighbors roof line. Well, the pictures below speak for themselves, there was only one way this thing could fall and NOT hit something, and it fell just that way. And if I hadn't been home late from work, my much loved truck would have been right under the trunk.

I'm looking to create the tornado/twister effect in a plastic glass without human interaction (aka: picking it up and spinning it). I did this before by hacking up an old 10gal aquarium filter and used the motor out of it. It used a magnet which spun a small prop which created the effect I was looking for. That filter motor died out and new 10gal motors are around 20 bucks. Is there an easier way to do this with perhaps a small 12vdc motor? Many any other ways? Suggestions? Thanks!

This is a video of me spinning up hurricane balls with an air compressor. I have gotten them faster (I estimate this run got up to about 10,000rpm) but it is still very cool. The second part of the video is some random thing I made when I was bored. It just spins a marble really fast inside the container. I know it's not very exciting :P haha please comment and rate! hm...the video won't embed so just go here.

A thunderstorm rolled in at about 3:00 p.m. near my house in Aurora Colorado. I was amazed by the clouds that were present, and recognized some of them as "Mammatus Clouds." These clouds are fairly rare, I've only ever seen then twice. They are named "Mammatus Clouds" because they resemble a mammals breast. These clouds were not as distinctly mammatus as the previous ones that I had observed, but they are still mammatus clouds nontheless. I need to pick a random .wav file from a sd card to play when triggered by the master clock. Also, I have to play a tornado warning file when the when the master clock sendes 3 short signals. It might go somthing like this, 'TORNADO WARNING, PROCEED TO SAFE ROOMS' in a computer voice.

Hi I live in a country Bulgaria, I have limited amount of money, I would like to build a catamtan boat, specifically an F18 or a tornado would be great, it needs to be perfect and sea worthy as I intend to sail it every weekend during our summer period. I saw some plans here, does any one have something better or some experience to share, or perhaps you live in Bulgarian town of Varna and would like to help.

I was driving home from work when I heard on the radio that a tornado had ripped through the high school of Enterprise, Alabama, where I attended, and where my little brother currently attends. A shock went through me as I heard the name of my home town. I'd never heard it on the national news before. When I heard that at least 8 kids at the high school had been killed, I really started worrying. I wanted to call my mom and find out if my little brother was okay. But I don't have a cell phone, and I was stuck in a traffic jam. I felt so trapped, and I was less than a mile from my house. When I finally got home, I couldn't reach my mother on at any of her numbers. I couldn't reach my sister, either. I called my sister-in-law, Michelle, who lives 30 minutes from Enterprise. She was home. Michelle said that my mother had driven to the high school twenty minutes before the tornado hit, and picked up my brother. He was safe. I was still in shock, though. I did the same thing I did after September 11; I watched the news for hours. I called and finally got through to my mom. She told me the police weren't letting anyone near the high school. Then I found out that seven more students died, bringing the total to fifteen. I got mad. It seems crazy to me that the police would keep away people that could help rescue the students. Maybe seven more would be alive if they had just let people go to the high school to help, or let the students with cars drive themselves home. My Mom told me about a family we're friends with. The tornado went right over their house. The mom and five kids all huddled in the hallway as the house shook and the roof was ripped off. They all survived. But the father was at work, and from where he was, he saw the tornado touch down. I can only imagine how helpless he felt as the tornado went towards his house. Enterprise is small, and I'm sure I know some of the families that lost sons and daughters today. I told my wife I'm leaving in the morning to go help clean up. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of work to do tomorrow. I've been so shook up by this all, I have to send my thoughts somewhere. You never think it will happen to you. You never think it.

If you are new to the topic then it might give you a slightly quicker understanding than watching hours of youtube videos.I assume you have seen these various coils that make a sphere shaped magnet spin at insane speeds.They are a good start.You see by normal understanding these Rodin or Vortex coils should not be able to produce a field that rotates that fast.As with a lot of things we tried to use math to explain it in theory and than adjusted the math to match it.Vortex math was born.So how do you explain blue and red to a blind person that never saw anything?I mean in a way they actually know how it would look if they could see?Doesn't work, but we can use a Dyson vacuum cleaner ;)A lot of "tornados" add up to one giant super tornado.Spinning so fast that "all" the dirst stays behind and only clean air comes out.As in nature all the weather cells add up to one that is more powerful than the combined single ones.The tornados that form the term vortex are around the coils.But also around the entire donut as well as every single strand of wire.In any good vortex the rotational speed increases towards the center and bottom of the vortex.You can try that with some floating stuff when you drain your bathtub or sink.Try to imagine and endless tornado that runs around every wire like a spiral.The coil itself adds another spin vector to it and increases the moving speed or the single tornado.Combined it adds up to a very strong tornadoe moving very fast around in the coil pack.As this also creates a rotating field like another tornado in the donut shape it all gets twisted up.Physics as we know it won't fully explain these effects.Vortex devices that produce electricity are usually coils in a special winding configuration and pattern.Like we try to eliminate certain things with basket coils in the HF area a Rodin or Vortex coil tries to utlise these otherwise unwanted stray effects and interferences.Overunity is another term people like to use here but I leave it up to you if such a things is phsically possible with an electrical system.Vortex math tries to explain all these things demonstrated in experiments.However I found two slight flaws in the common approch.1. Only two dimension used.Unlike the coils the simplified Vortex math only operates in two dimensions.A circle instead of a sphere if you like.2. Again, unlike the coil harmony and resonance are neglected.It seems in some cases people try to draw a circle just with straight lines.While in reality you have a never ending, resonant "stream" in three or to be precise four dimensions.Is it the chicken and egg problem?Yes and no.You can only calculate something if you can fully understand it or exactly replicate it in reality.Vortex coils are just way to interpret theories and get some sort of results.And those results are the real problem.We can measure magnatic fields in strenght and direction even frequency.However we can neither make them visible in real time not measure mixed or entangled fields properly.We "see" Mars is our "red planet" but in reality it just the atmosphere, the surface is not red at all in most places.NASA has enough problems to calculated missions to outer space with enough accuracy.Just imagine they would have to do it while considering that around every path our planets make is another spinning "distraction"....That is exactly what Vortex math tries to do while eliminating common math bit by bit.You can see and hear in 3 dimensions.Maybe you are also good in drawing something in 3D on your compterscreen or 3D headset.But how many here could predict the path of a baseball in 3D like they do when watching a game?Depending on your viewing angle you might be way off....Try to know or calculate where exactly the ball is at any given monet in time and how fast it spins in which direction.....Our brains are not trained to think like this!Even if we construct things like a dome we prefer to have straight features.Sure manufacturing is one thing that needs to be affordable.But try to just calculate the support structure if all is actually fully round like a sphere should be.We avoid what is considered higher dimensions as much we can.To calculate a distance in 3D it still seems easier to use two 2D models to add up instead of true vectors.Again only through technology like computer we are able to simulate, understand and actually calculate what we need.Where we ventured around the globe and into our solar system our math was left behind.Finding workaround and good enough approximations still seems the way to go.Instead actually evolving our math to our needs we just add more and more complex formulas and calculations.To fully understand vortex math you need to let go and start thinking in 4 dimensions instead of just 2.Oh, sorry, you might be new to this...Number 4 is time of course.

Hello everybody! First of all i'd just like to say I just made an account but have been using this site for years and love you guys =] I have this idea for a tv stand / table and I am stuck. attached is a drawing of my table (tried my best). The idea is a table made out of a recycled door as the table top, clear 6'' diameter and 2' long tubes as the legs, a liquid that reacts to blacklight inside the legs of the table such as laundry soap to fill the inside of the legs, and one small waterproof fan in each of the front legs to create a vortex inside the tube. So essentially I want a table with legs made of clear tubes with a glowing tornado in each front leg and a black light mounted under the table to light em' up! I need help figuring out what would be the best / cheapest material to use to create the front legs. Also what type of fan to use that is waterproof and will have enough torque to turn the water. Any help is appreciated!!

I have a tornado shelterthat I have wired for both 120V AC and 12V DC. All of the lighting is via 12V DC while the AC is used for recharging the batteries and running a 1500 VA UPS system that powers a small TV and radio. The UPS system normally uses two small 12V SLA batteries in series. To increase the run time of the UPS I want to use auto batteries instead of the small SLA batteries normally used. In order to cut down on the cost of batteries I want to use two auto batteries, one 100AH battery used for the main lighting and a 50AH battery in series with the 100AH battery to provide the 24 volts for the UPS system. The UPS system will only use the two batteries when the AC is out which is normally rare. Do you see any problems with this setup providing I install a diode in the UPS battery feed to prevent the UPS from recharging the batteries and use separate smart chargers connected to each individual battery? I feel I have overlooked something but I can't seem to put my finger on it.

I'm far too young to implement these things at the moment, but I'm interested in your thoughts on a pre-fab home designs and materials. Hopefully something I can make/repair myself. I live in Texas (Dallas currently, perhaps Austin later, climate: mostly dry country with tornadoes.) My idea was to build a pre-fab workshop/garage and build the house inside of that. Does anyone know of pre-fab underground homes? That would help maximize my land usage. I read an archived article on motherearth news about "Solartron" which sounded perfect, but they seem defunct now. http://www.motherearthnews.com/Green-Homes/1979-05-01/The-Solartron-Prefabricated-Earth-Sheltered-Home.aspx?page=4 The key areas I would focus on are the garage (mainly automotive), kitchen (small, but professionally inspired), and garden. (Spices, vegetables, fruits) I'm wondering on any thoughts of what you would like in your dream home?

Ok, here it goes: In the description concerning general relativity, the following scenario is depicted: Jim and Slim are riding a "Tornado" ride (goes by different names, but essentially is a centrifuge that pins you against the outer wall and then drops the floor out from under you. Sometimes calle d PUKE machine). Anyways, looking at the ride from a bird's eye view, one measures the circumference and the radius and we find that the ratio is two times PI or about 6.28. Now that is from OUR perspective, but from Slim's and Jim's measuring the circumference (so says the book) will give a different answer since they are traveling at high speed (assuming the speed is fast enough to invoke the Lorentz contraction). Thus, he says in the book that his measurement will come up short and therefore not be the same ratio noted. I don't doubt this, but I have a problem with not taking into account the lengthing of the circumference because of IT'S motion forward. Am I missing something? Why wouldn't the same effect be proportional to the lengthening of the ruler used to measure the circumference, seeing they are traveling at the same speed? Am I taking his example TOO FAR (in other words, he is assuming the ride is there but not physical)? Maybe I over analyze? :-)

Some time ago I was approached by an old friend who got very lucky money wise.He wanted to build a really energy efficient house for himself - in terms of being well insulated.Should be easy to build as well he said...So with a few beer we got together one day and tried to figure out what options are available that the usual building companies won't or can't offer.Quite soo we realised that freezer panels seem to be the ideal solution.Sturdy, ralatively high load rating and additional supports, mounts and all are readily available.Funny enough there are even the right thicknesses available to be a perfect match for EU style tripple glazed windows and well insulated outside doors.And as always the initial euphoria meant we totally went over board here.Getting dimensions for selected doors and windows, calculating how many freezer panels are required to make the outside walls and roof...Even starting on 3D models to design the whole thing.Needless to say the dreams ended with an equiry at the council for a building permit for the dream home.Turns out that despite proper ratings on overthing a house can not be built with freezer panels for walls.Only bricks, wooden/steel frames and approved building materials...Either way we kept going as a theoretical game for the hope in a few years regulations around here might change.And you might be lucky to have your property somewhere with no such stupid regulations.One of the biggest problems we realised such a well insulated home would have is moisture and fresh air.Possible solution here is to use a heat exchange system for basically everything inside and outside the house.Options for this already exist for purchase and installation so nothing would need to be designed or developed from scratch.These system combine airconditioner, heating, hot water and air exchange in a quite compact unit size.The required ducting is a different problem though that should be included in the early design stages already.Solar panels double up as additional heat shields so to say and with enough roof space left it could be turned into a green and living roof to help with the carbon footprint and inside temperatures during the summer.So far for the easy part...All this would be impossible without home automation and integration.Sensors monitor conditions, a computer system decides on the right operating parameters and allows for user adjustments.Home automation isn't a new thing either, so called smart-homes are already in the portfolio of most good builder out there - at a price though.Using this technology to our advantage means the smart part now doubles up for the required input and sensor data.For a smaller home you would ideall opt for a rotating home that follows the sun...For a really big home you would aim for enough solar and wind power to make it self sustaining...Battery technology is on our side here and using Li-Ion tech is almost affordable as old style lead-acid batteries for this purpose.So why are there only so few people going this route?Would be very easy to create freezer panel styles that look like wood or bricks to be conform with local appearence...The real problem seems to be that it violates what we are used to.For starters it would be hard to explain why you should live in a big fridge with windows.The next problem is that such homes would be very easy and quick to build.You select your style and design features, pay for it and production starts.In time for the finnished foundations, plumbing and such the parts arrive and come together in a day or two.Connections are finalised and can move in within a week of commencing to build the actual house.Thausands of tradies would be jobless if this would be the general way to build new homes.Same for all those companies that currently supply the standard building materials, frames, roof tiles and such...Just imagine a tornado just turned your home into dust.Wouldn't it be great to be able to move into a new one within a few weeks instead of months?Even better if the new one would still be mostly unharmed after the next tornado....Living in a possible flood zone?Nothing easier than to add some barriers for doors if the house is fully sealed otherwise...Stay dry while the water is right under your window, just don't open the door...In other parts of the world so called kit-homes are already widely available but mostly only in mild climates.The benefit of using freezer style panel for homes in desert or cold climates seems to obvious though.Same for possible disaster zones like tornado alley.Is it time to re-think how we define a home?

From the BBC: An all-female doo-wop band whose image is believed to have been the first photo uploaded to the fledgling world wide web is to play its final gig. Les Horribles Cernettes take their swansong at the Hardronic Festival at the Cern laboratory in Geneva - the birthplace of the web. A picture of the women was uploaded to the web on 18 July, 1992, by web creator - and fan - Tim Berners-Lee. He wanted it to test out the version of the web he was working on at Cern. Press tornado The band was founded in 1990 by Michele de Gennaro who worked at Cern as a graphic designer. The Cernettes get their name from the initials of the giant particle accelerator, the Large Hadron Collider, used at Cern to investigate fundamental physics. The group has won fame in scientific circles by performing at Cern social gatherings and physics conferences. The women sing classic 60s pop songs, as well as their own compositions such as Microwave Love, Collider and My Sweetheart is a Nobel Prize. The gig on 21 July at the annual Cern music festival will be their first performance for five years - and is billed as their last. Jim Halley, manager of the band, said there had been a huge upsurge of interest in the band because of the anniversary of the image being uploaded to the web. The band was even featured on the US talkshow hosted by Jimmy Kimmel, said Mr Halley. A small top pocket packs your wallet and incidentals and includes a hidden ID card holder. There is an integral hydration pouch along with four zippered pouches on the sides and a larger version on the front.The outside of the bag is festooned with MOLLE webbing. Thread a pair of ammo pouches in place for your shades or spare reading glasses. They can even carry ammo in a pinch. I can and have lived out of mine for extended periods while travelling, camping, or hiking.The handiest feature on my Brazos bag is the hidden "pass-through" pocket on the back. This discreet compartment is zipper-accessible from either side and is the perfect size to manage a decent gun. Open both sides and you can slide the pack over the handle of a rolling suitcase. Drop in a soft body armor panel and wear the pack backwards and you have an improvised tactical vest.
