Best Anwser Totals

A couple of days ago I had a "Best Answer" to a question regarding suspending a kayak from a ceiling.   Today I find that BA was removed from my total along with the author's response.  It also seems that the question has been removed from the Answers section.  Can questions or Best Answer ratings be deleted by the author?

Last Day at Instructables

It's my last day here at the Instructables office. It's been a wonderful summer, and I'm glad to have worked with everyone here: at the office, and the people I've interacted with on the site. Curious about my impact this summer, I did a bit of statistical analysis on the last three months, and I wanted to share it with you. It's not completely precise, but it gives a good ballpark. Ironically, though I have done laser cutting, 3D printing on both the UP printer and the Objet, CNC embroidery, and even CNC papercutting, I never bothered to install the office printer. So I had to show my graphs from a laptop screen. Here are my stats, as of August 17th: I published 69 Instructables total this summer in about 89 days, (65 official work days). (I have a lifetime total of 88 from some previous Instructables.) Here's a graph of the Instructables building up over time. (Blue is data; the thin black line is a fitted trend.) It's pretty linear (with a slight dip at the end of July, when I went camping and couldn't post). The averaged rate is about 75% of an Instructable every day this summer, or just over one per day if you only count work days. 63% of my summer’s Instructables were featured. I had a quick learning curve; after the end of May, 75% were featured. It was a little more difficult to extract further data, so the remainder of my statistics refer only to Instructables I published while working here this summer which received over 1,000 total pageviews. Overall, these Instructables generated 294,224 pageviews (almost three hundred thousand!), 89% of which were from unique viewers. People spent a total of 14 hours, 11 minutes, and 28 seconds viewing these Instructables. To the left, you can see my summer pageviews accumulate, and to the right, the day-by-day graph of my pageviews. The peaks on the right graph represent, in order, my Infinity Dress, the Clockwork Beetle, and the Plaster Face Cast. (Since I made these charts last Friday, it doesn't take into account my Temari, which whould have created a spike as big as that of the Infinity Dress over the weekend.) Although those are my top-viewed Instructables from the summer, my favorites are actually these ones: (and working on Psycho Scooter Scramble, of course) I'm glad to have such a measurable effect on the site and the Instructables community. The people of the site and in the office have made a strong impact on me as well. This is the first place where I feel a true sense of community among a group of people I know exclusively through the internet, and I want to thank all of you who I've never met in person for being my friends. In the office, I'll thank you personally. It's been a great summer, thanks to you. I'll still be around the site from time to time, but I can't devote every day to it. I'm finishing up my Neuroengineering degree at Olin and working on a few other things besides. But I'll be around, and I hope to talk to all of you from time to time. See you around, and happy making! -SelkeyMoonbeam

Total Views Count - Update

Tomorrow will be the first time I've posted stats from my Total Views Count script since January. I had some problems with the script breaking and losing the data, then was very busy throughout February/March since I was at Instructables HQ as an Artist in Residence, then when I got home to the UK I didn't have the motivation to fix it. Well, I've now started work on it again and last Friday I ran it for the first time since January. Tomorrow I'll be running it again and will have a gain value for each group member to share with everyone. It's still not completely finished, below is a description of how it worked before, how I've changed it and what I'm going to change further. Skip to the last bit if you want to read what the group's going to change into. Where it was: I used to run the group once per week by opening a Perl script on my desktop computer. The script automatically visited each of your profiles and added the total views count to a new column in a spreadsheet. Instructables updated some code, my script got confused, didn't update the spreadsheet properly and so all the data went screwy. I had to then post a forum topic and hand out patches, it took a long time. Where it is now: I've rewritten the Perl script, it now saves the data to a MySQL database instead of a spreadsheet. It also gathers far more data: total views, number of instructables, comments total, best answers total, number of forum topics, number of subscribers. I have a web page that looks up the total views from that database and displays a list I can copy to a forum topic. I still have to run it manually like before but it's much less hassle. Where it's going: I have spent a few hours working on learning to get Perl scripts working on my personal website. I can now automatically run them once per day, which I didn't know how to do. I now need to: 1) Check that the total views script will run daily 2) Write functionality to patch automatically 3) Design more patches! Once I have total views patches sending automatically I would like to award people for the following:   Total Views: 10k, 25k, 50k, 100k, 250k, 500k, 1m Subscribers: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 Answers: 10, 25, 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000 Best Answers: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500 Instructables: 1, 5, 10, 25, 50, 75, 100, 200 Comments: 50, 100, 250, 500, 1000, 2000, 3000 Subscriptions: The newest site update now lets me see how many people YOU'VE subscribed to. The more you subscribe to. You'll earn patches for more subscriptions. If you're arty and want to help out with this bit, please volunteer, it'll save me some time and they'll look prettier. The cartoons Caitlinsdad did for the total views patches were fantastic, but last time I asked he was too busy to design more. 4) Implement automatic sending out of all of the types of patches 5) Change the name of the group to reflect that it no longer really is just to show a list of total views. That's been surpassed when HQ added the baseball cards to profiles. Got a suggestion? Once done, the weekly forum topic that I post will become a pretty list of who's been awarded what patches. Let me know in the comments if you've got feature ideas you'd like to see implemented or want to help out. This group's been going 2 years now! Thanks! James

Instructables Internship - Day 1

Hey Everyone!I just arrived in Oakland from New York last Saturday, at 10:30 AM. Canida and Tetranitrate arrived shortly thereafter to pick me up from the airport. Over the weekend, we went camping. Not something that you would expect out of an Internship, but here at Instructables, anything can happen. The trip was awesome, camping up in the very scenic Sierras was simply astonishing. I'll include some pictures of the trip at the end of this post.Today was my first day at Instructables HQ. After about 20 mintues in the Control Tower, I realized how awesome the rest of my stay would be. The environment here at Instructables is unbelievable. Everyone, and I do mean everyone is super-friendly. Instructables is seemingly just a large family, of which every member seamlessly gets along with every other member. This doesn't only apply to the website, but also to the staff here at HQ. Instructables is unlike any other Internship/program that I've been to/participated in. At first glance (after the tour, of course), Instructables has actually surpassed my expectations. I was expecting to see a lot of which I had already seen in the photos of HQ on Flickr and Instructables, but there is just so much more. There's so much to see, do, and get totally sidetracked on just while walking around. I'm just amazed that I'm here, and that I got the opportunity to work for such an awesome company. So, on to the details. I'm set up on a table in front of a huge window that looks out at the front entrance. I get "free lunch", because I joined "The Salad Club". That entails me making at least one lunch for everyone sometime during my two-week internship, and every other day I get to eat food that someone else is making for all of us, etc. etc... I get time, everyday, to do what I want to do, where "what I want to do" is defined by building something. Again, this is something that you would never expect from an internship. So, basically I work half the day, finding people that would potentially like to join the site, getting their e-mails, and telling Tetranitrate about them, and then the other half of the day I'm building. This is pretty much the sweetest deal that I could ever think of. 1/2 of the day, I get to look at cool DIY projects that people post on the internet, and the other half I get to build. I think that everyone should know how awesome Instructables really is. They really love their work, their company, and what they are giving to the How-To Community as a whole.Anyway,I'm so glad to be here, and I really can't believe that I am here, yet.-Muffinator

Does it take a human to reset the day view counter for 'ibles? Simply curious.

Some days the counter isn't reset, was wondering how it is done?

Cyclist Rides Around the World in 195 Days

In 195 days and six hours, Mark Beaumont rode around the world on a bicycle, totally destroying the previous record of 276 days. Some data: - He ate 6,000 calories a day. Since he's a vegetarian, most of that was plant-based, but he did eat some meat to keep his energy up. - His bike was worth almost $5,000 - He carried 176 pounds of gear, including a tent and a video camera to keep fans updated - He had gear stolen once by crack addicts in a motel - He hopes to have raised 18,000 pounds for charity. - Scariest bit was riding in Istanbul, a city of 15 million. - He rode through 20 countries - Was knocked off his bike once by a driver who ran a red light. linkvia treehugger

Hydrogen for renewable energy storage- total system efficiency?

This is a question that has been bugging me for some time, especially since the questions about methanol synthesis revived my interest in energy storage. Say I have a wind turbine or solar panel or whatever, that produces 1000 Wh per day.  If I use that electricity to electrolyse water, store the generated hydrogen at roughly atmospheric pressure in an upside-down water butt or a big gas-tight bag in my shed (don't worry, I'm not going to actually do this) and then feed it into a generator converted to run on H2, what percentage of that initial energy input would I get back out?  20%?  5%? 1%? The follow-up questions to this are a) How does that compare against a battery bank? What about a similar DIY-style pumped water storage system? b) What one component of the system should be improved to raise the overall system efficiency? Electrolyser, storage, generator? c) Are there any other DIY-friendly methods for storing intermittently generated electricity that I'm not thinking of? And, I suppose, d) Does doing this and providing 5-10x your overall power requirements in wind turbines work out cheaper than spending thousands on batteries?

Rock Music on Classical Instruments?

For our spring orchestra concert at my school, I convinced my teacher to pick an arrangement of 21 Guns by Green Day as one of our pieces. Why pick 21 Guns over Don't Stop Believing? Because I like it better. THAT's why :P So...I was wondering. Has anyone else played an EPIC rock/punk/alternative or just something totally UN-CLASSICAL on a classical insturment? Perhaps something as awesome as a Green Day song? I play violin btw xD

Total Views Count - 13/07/2012

Here's this week's total views count. To get on the list and have your stats monitored each week and get patches, join the group. If you joined since last week's run, you won't be on the list yet since the script to update the database with members isn't working yet. I hope to get it fixed this weekend. I also need a new name for the group. Over the next week I will be able to automatically hand out patches every day for Total Views, Comments, Forum Topics, Number of Instructables, Number of Followers, Number Following, Answers and Best Answers. With this in mind my weekly forum topic every friday will contain: 1) A list welcoming all the new members that have joined that week 2) A list of who's been awarded what patch that week so we can see each other achieve important milestones 3) A list of links to lists like the one below, one list for each type of stat so that you can compare your progress to your friends. So I need a new name for the group to reflect these changes, since total views count no longer reflects what the group will do. Please make suggestions in the comments below. I'll try think of a good prize for the best suggestion. $99 genetic testing, one day only!

This is cool:  23andme is having a one-day sale on their Complete Edition kits in honor of "DNA Day" for $99, or 80% off the standard price of $499.   The price is ONLY good on April 23, 2010. $99 to spit and a tube and get info on 148 diseases adn conditions, plus some info on your ancestors' migration patterns?  This is the next best thing to DIY genetics - totally sweet!  A bunch of us at Instructables have already signed up*. What do you think about the idea of genetic testing:  awesome, scary, or somewhere in between?  Are you interested in getting tested?  How much is this kind of informatino worth, and would you try it if it were free?  Are there things about your genes you wouldn't want to know, or is more information always good? *I find this sort of thing fascinating, and not just because my undergrad degree is in biology - for me it's about knowing everything I can about my body and how it works.  The more information I have, the more I can modify my behavior, and generally tinker around under the hood - it's an extension of the "if you can't open it, you don't own it" DIY ethos.

I'm back! And I've got a challenge for you!

Hello Instructablonians! I'm back (at least for the next few weeks) since it's winter break!  MIT is fantastic, and I've learned so many incredible skills that I think I'll be able to participate in my new challenge. The Challenge:    * Your job is to produce about one (quality) instructable per day for the next 11 days.  Instructables are allowed to be backlogged (ie. do the project in one day, take the pictures, but wait to write the instructable), so long as they are posted by January 17th.  I'll also give you 1 day of lee-way, so you only have to make 10 ibles total to qualify.  Make sure that you tag your instructables with the keyword 'muffinchallenge09'. The Reward:    * Ever want pseudo random components that can fit in an envelope?  If you're in the US, I'll send you a letter with a card and some components you can pick from a list that I'll post when the contest is over.  (Mostly stuff like LEDs, old logic components, maybe some FETs or BJTs, crystals, etc.)    * A Muffin Challenge Digital Patch of Approval!    * The satisfaction of being incredibly productive this season. So get to it!  Happy Snowydays for everyone in the Northern Hemisphere! -muffin p.s. How to catch a bird at the top of a mountain?  :-P

Bug in the Stats tab

In my last Instructable I noticed that the number of Total Views and the number of Today Views are the same. After following this for a few days I noticed that both numbers increase at the same rate when obviously the number of Total Views should be higher.

UPDATED: Today I was totally GROSSED OUT....Plus pics, and progress !

The landlord came today to "fix the walls" again, like he did a few months ago, and again 3 days ago....but his helper told him this wasn't working...so they started tearing the Bathroom and Bedroom wall (the adjoining wall) down.  The portion towards the outside wall of the building.....they found a pipe that was leaking....a big 9 or 10 inch iron pipe......guess what?   That is the drain from upstairs for the bathroom sink, the bath tub, and the TOILET.   For over 6 months now, we have had our bedroom wall deteriorating and being soaked by SEWAGE.... The helper told me in confidence that we are not the only ones he does this too.....grrrrrrrr. Pictures have been updated with ones I took...

Did you notice how the internet and mobile phones totally changed our culture?

Go back just 20 years and on a busy shopping street you saw the poeple walking around as they do today - or did they?I remember poeple talking to each other, standing in front of the shop windows and checking the offers.People greeting each other or stopping for a chat. Now all you see it zombies staring at their phone screen or texting.Even the dreaded "self talker" with a BT earpiece seems to die out.You like fast food don't you? ;)But did you ever bother to waste some time watching people going through the drive through?Back in the days they mostly tried to keep their cigarette going or the girls were busy with the make up.Today it is almost impossibe to spot someone making it through a drive through without playing on his or her phone. The shopping is finnished and all you want is to pay once your trolley was emptied onto the conveyor going to the register. If it were not for the person in front of you...On hand holds the phone to the ear, you hear the latest gossip you don't want to know anything about...And then painfully slow one hand tries to load the trolley again and then finally tries to find a credit with still some money left on it.My favourite are however all those people who are fully addicted to their phone and go mental if you try to tell them. You are having a cold beer with your mate and just want to reflect about the great day fishing.Hold on a second....Oh, did you see this today? ....Ok, just quickly checking FB...Your beer is already number three while your mates beer went warm and stale.Fair enough, was a long day...Then you knock at his door at 3AM to take the boat or or go on a trip.Still half asleep but the phone and all social media must be checked before even making it to the toilet...You get the picture, hopefully not by looking in a mirror now ;)When the "internet" started to be a thing I was already long on the wagon of "online".And back then some big players in the game said "One day we will all be connected in real time!".Of course everyone had a good laugh and moved on.No chance "everyone" could afford a computer, let alone get the skills to go "online".But look at today:You call your provider, tell them you need internet at home and you just plug a box in and have it.Oh, moible is prefered? No problem, just pick the phone you fancy, add a sim card and off you go minutes later.I remember libraries not just as a place to read books but also as a place to learn new things.Explore the world, see other cultures...If you could afford it you might have seen it all for yourself and in real.Today all this is replaced by a single term:"Google it!"What we have today is a simple money scheme created through the totally useless "need" to be connected. So how do you know that you are already addicted to you electronic friend and failed to realise it?Quite simple actually and in the same way as maybe your grandparents did with your parents - if they are old enough ;)Yes I mean the goggle box, the good old TV.Back in the day we said that 4 hours of TV time for a teen is already quite much.We can't escape screens for work or school needs anymore. What we can though is ask:How many hours per day do you spend on yo phone? The time that is not work or school related...How much of your daily life do you organise through your phone by texting, social media or just notes, reminders and so on?Do you complain that even the newest phone newer has enough charge for your "needs"? ;)Do you get cramps in your hands or fingers? ;)Or just plain simple: How long could you really be totally without mobile phone, computer and internet? The answers you give yourself might shock you ;)What are your thoughts on the mobile phone zombies of today?

HOW MANY SOLAR PANEL OF WHAT WATTAGE WILL I REQUIRE for my LOAD ?

I want to basically go green (partially for my house)I figured out the following (Kindly correct me if I am wrong):I calculated the KWhs in following way:(Watts x nos x hours)/1000 = KWhs / day (Correct me if I am wrong)LOAD CALCULATION:Room 1 - - 5W LED x 4 nos x 4 hours per day = 0.08 KWh / day- 3W LED x 1 nos x 1 hours per day = 0.003 KWh / dayRoom 2 -- 5W LED x 2 nos x 4 hours per day = 0.04 KWh / day- 15W FAN x 1 nos x 8 hours per day = 0.12 KWh / dayRoom 3 -- 5W LED x 2 nos x 4 hours per day = 0.04 KWh / dayRoom 4 - - 3W LED x 2 nos x 3 hours per day = 0.02 KWh / dayTotal Consumption per day = 0.30 KWhs / DayNow, I calculated the number of solar panel required in following wayOn an average of 5 - 7 hours of full sunlight / day. On an average in this situation a solar panel will product approximately 0.007 KWhs.Therefor I assume I will require 43 Watts of solar panel, by calculating :0.30 (Required KWhs ) / 0.007 (KWhs / watt of solar panel) = 42.85 Watts (Approx 43 Watts)AREA REQUIRED TO PLACE THE PANEL:I got to know on an avearage 1 SqFt is required for 10Watts of panel.Threrefore I shall require 4.5 SqFt area to mount it.Kindly update me if my calculations are correct.ThanksDevNet

Has the member population decreased? Answered

Usually, my view counts are in the 100's in just a day... I lost my camera awhile ago, and totally stopped posting for about 3 months. After I bought a new camera and started posting again, my view counts are at only 11 after 2 days! Has anyone else noticed this? is it possible my 'ibles aren't making it to the "Explore" section? I never see them there...are they hidden from the author?

DAILY VIEWS UPDATER

Is the "daily views updater" broken, or does some one need to be reminded?  I like to check daily views from time to time, and an occasional miss is understandable, but I think it's been quite some time since an update.  Todays date: 8/2/2015. Thanks.

Hi, I got an instructable where the view count acts very strange. The first day stayed at 0 (never happened, almost impossible since the instructable was featured..) Now, if I look at the view count the total views are equal to the daily views (also yesterday..) This is the instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/Split-Photography-with-an-analog-camera/

After the last edit, I've lost about five thousand views.  The ibles all show the same number of views.  What happened?

Major Parts KIT for 8X8 CUBE LED - from Furturlec

I don't have the time to tackle this project but I already ordered the major electronic components including the boards from Futurlec. This includes the processor.  As you can see (if compared with the Instructables list)  it is not totally complete and also they ran out of #10 ribbon cable. They are likely back in stock now or you may be able to get one locally. But this should certainly get you on your way.  The total is just over $40. I will ship it out Priority anywhere in the US for $30. That will beat the 20+ days from Asia.  I have not opened the bundle, but if anything major is missing beyond a 10c resistor I will contact Futurlec myself.  (This is NOT the Tindle KIT)

Is My Solar Panel Design ok to achieve 60A charge rate for 1000AH 24V battery bank?

Please I need your advice on a propose project in my office. we have an Inverter (Xantrex TR2424- 24V 2.5KVA) which charge rate capability of 70A. The Inverter battery bank is rated 1000AH 24V total ( 2V 1000AH x 12 in series). I am sure of 5Hrs sunlight a day. and I want my project to charge the battery at 60A rate per hour. Our DC-current consumed when on Inverting mode is 26A DC (Approx 3A-4A AC inverter output). Our ac load on the inverter output is around 540W. In my design as attached, each group of PV (4pcs in parallel) should produce around 30A). total amperage should be around 90A. since during the day (sunny) we will be draining 26A continously from the battery, deducting that from the total pv current, we should have around 64A left to charge the battery bank. My request: kindly look into my propose design and advice where am wrong or need correction/adjustment and recommend with your experience. I assumed a DOD of 60% on the battery hoping to charge the battery to full capacity within 5 hours of sunlight daily. we have standby generator which we can power on to charge the battery in situation where it is cloudy. Thanks for your anticipated recommendation & advice

best way to remove warts?

My sister in law used paint thiner ( a drop) over top of the wart 2-3 x a day......for about 1 week......worked really well!!!   nail polish also works great!!!! She  said that you can use nail polish  over top of the wart......this prevent the wart from breathing and sufficates it causing it to dry up and fall off......Duck tape doesn't work and is a pain   my husband did this method and it was a total waste of time.

To all Bike riders/cyclists/commuters: What do you ride?

I ride a 2000 MGX DxR [yes, the crappy, chinese, walmart version] to work every day, road commuting. I also ride it off-road, singletrack, streams, washboards, you-name-it-I've-ridden-it, with no issues. thus far, I have put around 19,000 miles on it, all told. totally original [otherthan tubes, tires, chain, cassette, brakes, etc] parts, still weighs 38 pounds. Anybody else ride something as cheap and inappropriate as commuter? What do you ride every day? any bikes you'd LOVE to have? Any funny bike stories? Cheers,    B.E. 'Brick' Montgomery

A "Laughing Baby" got in my computer! How do I kill it? Answered

Ok... several days ago an audio clip with the sound of a baby laughing suddenly started on my computer. I was on my daughter's Facebook page at the time. It was kinda cute, but I have no idea how, why or where the clip was coming from. A day or so later, the same "laughing baby" audio clip began playing when I was on different websites...  and another thing began happening: My display screen began moving to the right. At first it was barely noticeable... then overnight I couldn't close a page or maximize it. They little tabs were totally missing. I tried using the keyboard right arrow, but had no access. Then the next day, the minimize tab was gone. I have a back-up laptop, which is what I'm using now, but what say ye-computer-experts about the damn laughing baby? What the hell is it and how the hell do I kill it? The picture is of the tabs that disappeared, in case I was clear as mud. ;-) Please HELP!?!

Please read: An urgent appeal from Instructables member The Ideanator

I’m an I'bler. Like the thousands of others who write and publish Ibles, I have tons of fun doing so, and I can tell you, I wasn't expecting to get this big. I am finally adding more Ibles and other things to my profile, to build a resume, and to develop my semi-technical writing skills. Since I've joined, I've had over 37,100 total views, my goal is to top 40,000 by new years. Instructables, in all its glory has produced some incredible view totals. It’s a stretch, It would take about 500 views per day overall to get there. Please help me get to that 40k total, its as easy as peeking through my I'bles. The Ideanator Instructables member. RTR

Hey guys, This is a transfer rifle that I made a few days back. It outwardly resembles the TR/NAR, but is totally different internally. It uses a true trigger mech that I invented, as well as a transfer mech that was also designed by me. It shot about 50 ft., but that was only with one or two old bands. It was really comfortable, and I would have liked to finish it, had I not taken it apart to build the NAR+TR8+ZKAR. Enjoy, and go ahead and ask questions if you have any. -The Red Book of Westmarch

What is Your Nerdiest Shirt? (patches to all that post pictures!)

We've donned our nerdshirts, now where are yours? What got its start as free vendor t-shirts from tech companies has now evolved into a full blown geek-fest of one-upsmanship and subtle winks to those in-the-know. How many days has Matt walked into work with a shirt I had to patiently wait all day for someone else to question? All of them. Now Gizmodo asks "What is Your Nerdiest Shirt?"Be it gaming, coding, comics or YouTube, there's a shirt to express every one of our inner (or not so inner) geekeries. What are your faves? Americans avert energy crisis by dieting, study reveals...

Scientists at Cornell University, led by David Pimintel, have performed a meta-study and found that the easiest way for Americans to reduce, and even totally avoid, the looming energy crisis is to go on a diet. The average American consumes about 3747 kcal per day compared to the 2000 to 2500 kcal per day recommended by the US Food and Drug Administration. (This does not include junk food!)Producing those daily calories uses the equivalent to 2000 litres of oil per person each year. That accounts for about 19% of US total energy use.Pimentel estimated 6 kilograms of plant protein are needed to produce 1 kg of high quality animal protein. He calculates that if Americans maintained their 3747 kcals per day, but switched to a vegetarian diet, the fossil fuel energy required to generate that diet would be cut by one third.Pimentel calculates that the equivalent of 2100 kcal go into producing a can of diet soda which contains a maximum of 1 kcal. About 1600 kcal go into producing the aluminium can alone.Other suggested changes to the food production process range from replacing incandescent bulbs with energy-saving fluorescent ones, to using fewer machines, pesticides and fertilisers, and more human power on farms.Reducing the distance that food is transported could also cut energy costs: food travels 2400 km on average to its consumer in the US. This requires 1.4 times the energy actually contained in the food. Producing food locally would cut the energy expended transporting it by half.Implementing all the suggested changes would cut the US food industry's energy bill in half.New Scientist articleNew Scientist Environment Section, special report of energy and fuels

lightsabers

i had a thought for making a light saber the other day. if you took a florescent tube light and put it in a tight fiting transparent tube for stregnth and added a handle on one side with a this copper wire runing to the other end then you could make a light saber. no leds just a florecent tubelight. it would glow like a real one and could be wrapped in colored cellophane to produce different colors. it is a totally workable idea and a good one. only problem is that it won't shrink but it still would be pretty cool. the handle could house the tube driver circuit and the batters with a small switch for lighting it up.

could someone cut a piece of plastic for me? Answered

I have a mp4 player i got a few days ago, but i find that the original cover plastic has a sort of paint that, when combined with the glare of ambient sunlight, makes it totally impossible to use the player outside. not only that, but the plastic on the front got a really nasty scratch on it when i was cutting open the box. its 1mm thick. if i gave the dimensions of the plastic part thats scratched (gold-silvery part of the player) could someone cut a new piece for me, be it laser cut, cnc milled, or by hand, whatever. all i ask is that its clear plastic.

Iphone controlled Gopro?

Ok, total noob here. First, I have a knockoff Gopro camera (Pyle). Are there instructions out here to build the capability to basically turn the camera on and off at will, remotely via cell phone? I'd like to be able to see what the dog is doing during the day. Since I have a "gopro", I'd like to just plug it into a device that I can turn on and off via the internet. This allows me to use the camera for an additional purpose. I would envision a box with all of the electronics inside that has a single cable that plugs into my camera. The box would be hooked up via Wi-Fi in the house to the internet. Not sure if I'm describing this correctly or not, but thanks in advance for help / advice / etc.

Favorite/followed people won't update

I have recently had an error where my favourites and followers won't change. I originally encounter this bug a few days ago, on my mobile OS. I tried to favourite a instructable and it showed that it was favourited ( the heart turned pink and all. The next day when I wanted to see the instructable it wasn't in my favourite list. I tried it a couple more times on my phone but it wouldn't keep it on my favourite list when I shut down the app. I tried to delete favourites to see if that was the problem but I had the same error it would show it was unfavourited but It would still remain in my favourites.  I then tried to use my PC (ASUS G750J laptop using chrome) same program but now I noticed that when I favourited/unfavourited an instructable it wouldn't change the total count of favourites for that instructable. I tried to delete my cookies and cashe for Chrome but I'm still having the same problem.  Thank you and I look forward to your replies.
