Wii troubles?

Ok, so my Nintendo Wii, which we have had for about 3 years decided to stop reading disks about 2 months ago. It played the downloaded games just fine but now we cant even get the Wii remotes to register on screen. I can get the hand to show up if i plug the Wii remote into our guitar hero 3 controller and use the analog stick on that but thats it. We keep it in our basement and we have 3 cats so its rather dusty. Im just wondering is it a software problem and would formatting it do anything or is it dust on the lens or some other hardware problem. I was going to format it to see if it would do anything but Im afraid that we might loose all of our save data, and I cant remember what my user name or password was for the Wii shop channel so i cant recover any of that save data either. Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

My desktop is conected to my home network but cant access the internet?

Yesterday my desktop was working fine and could conect to the internet no problem, today it will connect to the network but has no internet access. My laptop and phone both connect and have internet just fine. I have reset my router and modem and that didnt help. I changed it so my Ip addess and DNS where not automatic and that did nothing. Currently it is set back to automatic and it is giving me no default gateway and the IPv4 Address is not what it should be. Like i said earlier, i have no idea what could have caused this as it just happened when i turned on my pc this morning.   Here is my Ipconfig /all from my desktop (the ipconfig /all for my laptop is below) Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601] Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation.  All rights reserved. I need help on to make a joule thief? Answered

I had made tons of joule thief, but the biggest problem is at beginning I had faced one problem, which is whenever I make it it can light up the led after some shaking,, (shaking causes some wires to touch the other in a way that is correct I guess).  But I follow the schematics, and then I finally made on that worked better, and without any toroid bead, but now with the new transistors I bought, none of them work anymore,  my old transistors got lost. so what can I do?

Questions on the knex " not a rectangle" gun involving the barrel.

So, I got everything else made, but im having some trouble with the barrel. One question is the peice in the middle is a BALL SOCKET  correct? Not a Y clip or a Ball pin thingy. The female Ball socket, correct? And then how does it go in there? Does it really just bounce around? Does it go long way, because it wont fit that way. Or does it go with the widest side toward the pin, or the narrow side? I havent seen a good picture of this area. Its either so dark you cant see in the hole, or too blury. Then, the rail underneath the barrel, can it be made of blues instead of white connectors? I got a lot of blues, not many whites. Last question, are there any mods that are amazing that you could point me to? I am using oodalumps pictures on KI to build this, so I have the stock version, unmodded.

how do i fix a broken refrigerator? Answered

Yesterday evening I heard something that sounded like an electrical short. Then I started smelling that smell that happens when something shorts out (burning electrical odor). Now my refrigerator/freezer is getting warmer and warmer. You can hear it trying to "cycle on", but then nothing happens. Someone told me it was probably just a switch. Any suggestions on trouble-shooting this problem?

My Maytag Performa toploader washer stops moving during wash and rinse cycle.

I watched it fill with water, then the agitator started moving. After a minute or so, the agitator stopped moving but the motor was still running. I moved the knob to the spin cycle and the washer drained and spun as normal. Wonder if there is some sort of belt that may be wearing out? Any suggestions would be appreciated. What makes a battery corrode?

This device has been inside its whole life with occasional use. It consists of an LED, a resistor, three AA's in RatShack holders, and a push button. For the second time one of them has corroded and split open; IIRC it was in the same slot. Is the holder crappy? Am I buying punk batteries? Circuit issues (this was my first soldering project)? Basically, does my circuit need trouble-shooting or is it just dumb bad luck? Thanks!

HP Pavilion DV2615nr LCD intermittently flickers and sometimes goes black-what do I replace first? Answered

I have an HP DV2615nr laptop that is about 2 yrs old. Over the last 3-4 months the LCD will flicker or go black at times. If I open and close the lid several times and get it open to 'just the right spot', it will come on and stay on...sometimes it just flickers constantly....sometimes it stays black. I am trying to determine if it is the backlight, the inverter or the LCD? Any ideas on trouble shooting this before I purchase parts? After querying this on the web, it does seem to be a standard problem on HP Pavilion laptops :( Thanks in advance for your help!?

Can't play CDs or DVDs In Laptop

When I insert a CD, DVD, software disc, etc, into the tray, I hear a couple of beeps, a fast whirring sound that then stops. No playback happens even set to auto play. No little disc icon appears on screen. I'm unsure if the drive ever worked, but I assume it did when I installed disc that came with my latest printer. Trouble shooting via Windows help & support led me to find drive in Device Manager for repair/update.***I find no listing for a CD/DVD drive there or in sounds section on control panel***I have Compaq F700 notebook running Windows Vista Home Premium. Programs list show 2 DVD players in addition to Windows Media Player. No luck with any of them. (One shows"No Disc" even after disc is inserted). Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I need help explaining the shape of this nebula Answered

Http://www.esa.int/spaceinimages/Images/2014/10/Butterfly_death_throes This image is the "Butterfly Nebula". I'm having trouble understanding it's shape. According to the accompanying blurb, the shape indicates a "bipolar nebular, where fast-moving gas can escape more easily from the poles of the dying star than around its equator. This creates a lobed structure reminiscent of an hourglass, or, as in this case, a giant butterfly." But... why? Why can the gases escape more easily from the poles?  Why is it harder to escape at the equator? Surely, if it was blasting from the poles, we would see a more linear shape, long "beams" of material shooting out of each end?  This image looks to me as if material blasted away from the equator, but parallel to the poles, almost as if the two halves of the star's surface were peeled apart, like turning half an orange skin inside out. Anybody got a borderline high-school/university level explanation for the shape?

Trying to use relays with a electronic momentary to latching converter. Relays are tripping the latching converter?

I am trying to use this devise,   to turn on a relay attached to a positive wire from a blinker can that sends the signal to the corresponding light. I have two in parallel so I can turn on and off a LH and a RH light with a momentary switch. (can't use a regular on off switch). It works perfectly when attached to its own power supply. I am using this in on a 12 volt system that has some other relays running various things in the system. when I hook this into the system, even directly from the battery, activating the other relays turns the relays on attached to this devise. I suspect it to be noise since it works great on its own power supply. I Tried running the power lead through a resistor and capacitor to help isolate the loop but didn't work. This is stretching my understanding of electricity. What I think I am looking for is how to wire this to isolate it's power +/- circuit from the rest of the system. Otherwise suggestions on how to trouble shoot. I know it is best to add a diagram but I don't know how to make one.

I had an accident while trying to rush finishing up the USB project...

And it is not working......in fact, the 555 timer is getting hot, suggesting I either wired something wrong, or it  has a problem handling the crystal speaker I used from a phone......in any case, I won't be entering this contest either, but I do want to attempt to trouble shoot and publish my USB  light sensing alarm. In my rush, I tried to climb out of my work area (my wife has it fairly well "barricaded in" with her stuff), and tripped over the pile and ended up under the office chair, with the cross brace of the desk getting broken,  I struck it so hard. AFAIK, I am unhurt, not counting a bit of a strained neck muscle and some lower back muscle pain too. She came back (after trying to call me on the cell phone) to see if all was well, and of course I was still partially buried.  Unable to actually help me out much, she went back to watching her movie as I dug myself out from under the pile.    This is not the first time something like this has happened and with the way things will continue, it won't be the last. *sigh*

Although in many regions (wild) blackberries are considered to be a pest, in our gardens they can be delicious.I don't mean the wild variety here but the cultivated ones with big fruits and no thorns on them. And if you ever tried to successfully save money by just buying one and using cuttings from it for the new season you know the troubles....Creating cuttings from blackberries is quite easy if done the right way.But there is an ever easier and simpler way if you don't mind doing your pruning a bit later than usual.Once the harvest season is over and all berries are gone you see that the blackberries still keep growing before they finally start dropping their leaves. And if all went well then your blackberries have grown in long "snakes" supported on a vertical structure - like long bows.During a good season this bows get so long that they almost reach the ground at the end of the season. All you have to do it to free your snkes so you can places their ends into the ground, preferably out to the side so you can start a new row of blackberries with enough space between them.Use some soft cord and weights to keep the ends in the ground and fill the hole.Only water once when done otherwise let nature take care of things. In a very dry climate or season you might want to water a bit once a week though. When leaves start to drop in big numbers cut the above ground bits off with about 10 to 15cm left standing.Prune the big ones as you always do to get them ready for the next season. And when the next season starts you will see that most of your little "cuttings" take off like mad. They had the mother plant until it was time to go dormant, so no extra energy was required to stop a dying cutting from going dry.The end of the plant realised it is under ground and for that reason it is time to grow roots. Then suddenly it is time to hibernate and all energy is left in the remains, ready for use in the next spring. It is no problem to get over 15 new plants from a single one this way for the next season. It also works quite well fo roses.Although here you might need to create a podest or similar to place pot on.And the season for it is different too ;)It all starts with your pruning at thend of the season. All parts that did not produce flowers, those "wild" stems need to be fully removed. Those who produced good are cut back so you are left with 3 to 5 "eyes" - these tiny pimple where the new shoots come out.Pay attention to their location as it determines the direction of the new shoots ;)Don't have too many facing inwards. When the rose starts growing again in spring you should prepare your stand for the pot.The new shoots are quite flexible and can be directed to grow where you need them for the pot by using bonsai tape or wire - just be gently with them!Once long enough that the end can be placed about 5cm deep into your pot with good potting mix or the good soil from your garden:Place the pot so that the end shoot is held in the soilwithout force - if in doubt let the shoot grow a bit longer and form it donwards with wire. You want to bury it only when there is new growth going out if it but not of the end currently only has the leaf(s) showing. These fresh end shoots should point downwards into the soil.Cover it all and keep the soild moist at all times but not soaking wet.It really helps to have the pot shaded. You can use small seedling pots and check for roots a few weeks later or just wait till the end of the season.Either way a root should form in the pot and once strong enough you only have to wait and look out for eyes forming on the stem.If the do you can cut the stem so you have enough eyes on the potted stem.Be aware though that this will only result in a strong and healthy rose if the mother plant is not a hybridised clone. For the later it is best to transplant and eye onto a donor bush or wild rose.

Anyone can help me?i need to know what material which conduct heat but insulate electricity?

Im making this hot plate..im using a 600w and 240v heating element..when i first switch it on..without any girdle or plate on top of the heating element, it was going smoothly..then as i attach the girdle or plate on top of the heating element..suddenly disaster strike..my workshop power supply was trip and i know something wrong with my hot plate or electrical cooker. I then started to trouble shoot what is the problem. Guess what, i made a mistake in buying a girdle. The girdle that i bought was an ordinary girdle use for people selling burger at the stall to cook the beef and patty. Obviously, that girdle was not made for electrical cooker. It is made for heat induction cooker which use fire to heat up the girdle from the bottom. Now in order to complete my cooker, I need help from all of you guys which is more expert in this matter. Are there any materials which I can use for making the hot plate?Material which can conduct heat but does not conduct electricity. If you guys have some idea, please do help me. Thank you for reading this and thank you in advance for those who help me out.

Problems with my HXT HX5010 servo.

Hi,to whoever is reading this.I recently purchased a HXT HX5010 servo :http://www.hobbyking.com/UNITEDHOBBIES/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=22930 and i'm facing quite a few problems with it .I've never used a servo before so i really don't know how to trouble shoot it . first is that when i try the "sweep" program from the arduino examples, once it has reached 180 degrees,it  tries to go past the gear stopper and it takes it a few seconds to "realize" that it i sat 180 degrees and then only comes back to 0 degrees . the sweep program is:  #include Servo myservo;  // create servo object to control a servo                 // a maximum of eight servo objects can be created int pos = 0;    // variable to store the servo position void setup() {   myservo.attach(9);  // attaches the servo on pin 9 to the servo object } void loop() {   for(pos = 0; pos < 180; pos += 1)  // goes from 0 degrees to 180 degrees   {                                  // in steps of 1 degree     myservo.write(pos);              // tell servo to go to position in variable 'pos'     delay(15);                       // waits 15ms for the servo to reach the position   }   for(pos = 180; pos>=1; pos-=1)     // goes from 180 degrees to 0 degrees   {                                    myservo.write(pos);              // tell servo to go to position in variable 'pos'     delay(15);                       // waits 15ms for the servo to reach the position   } } According to the program ,as soon as the servo reaches 180 degrees it is supposed to go back to 0 degrees however my servo first tries to go past the gear stopper and then only comes back to 0 degree.I am powering the servo with the 5v pin on the arduino.Should i use a external power supply for my arduino?I don't understand what the problem is .Please help me!

Why does my LM386N-1 amplifier chip get hot when using mp3 player as input, but is fine when guitar is the input source? Answered

I made the amplifier in this instructable https://www.instructables.com/id/Make-a-Sweet-Portable-Guitar-Amp/ and it is currently in breadboard stage. I had a few problems after adapting the circuit to have a switched dc input jack as well as battery. But after some trouble shooting i fixed these errors. I ran it off battery and dc input (9v) wall adapter (a universal 500mA regulated ac/dc transformer set to 9V) with a guitar as the input and it worked fine (as far as i know). Then as it said in the instructable that you could use it with and ipod or mp3 input too, i thought i'd try it and see what it was like. I used the dc input adapter when i did this and plugged in my mp3 into the input jack using a 3.5mm to 1/4" adapter. Then when i swithced on the circuit i didn't hear my music through the speaker, just a bit of hum and then i smelled a slight electrical burny smell so i turned off the power as quickly as i could. Then i felt around and it was the lm386n-1 chip that was getting hot. Firstly can anybody diagnose the problem? Secondly, is it likely to have permanently damaged my chip? Thirdly, do you think it will be because of the power source not being a battery? I don't think so, it worked fine with both with guitar input. But i suppose it could be related to that

Congratulations Hands-On Learning Contest Winners

Thanks to everyone for participating in the Hands-on Learning Contest! We got a lot of great entries, and I’m very pleased with the overall quality of the entries that we received. The grand prize entry, ynze’s Make an LED Wall Piece in Class, won because of the quality of his presentation and the thought given to how other educators might be able to use the project in their own courses. If you’re launching a Maker class (yes, that’s a thing), this project demonstrates a framework for approaching guided building while still giving students the freedom to create something uniquely personal. Plus, the wall pieces look pretty cool. The other winners are equally deserving of praise. As usual, we ended up with some projects that are almost classroom-ready (the electric line aircraft, a space balloon, and invasive species control), and I fully expect that some enterprising educators will soon be using those projects with students. If you do so, shoot me a PM so I can interview you and your class. The remainder of projects are ready to be adapted for the classroom. The electrostatic motor, the tensegrity ball, and the laser-etched Aztec coin are ready to be snapped up by a teacher willing to work backwards to academically justify the project within their curriculum. Or they’ll make VERY engaging demonstrations. A special shout out to the young man responsible for launching a balloon into space. We’ve had space balloons before, but the documentation of his project was unusually detailed. If you’re launching a space balloon in the United States, that kid has blazed quite a trail for you. Well done, robotkid249. Please keep participating in these contests, because even if you didn't win a prize, you still helped to make learning more meaningful for students. If you're making hands-on teaching and learning easier for someone else, you've done a good thing (even if you don't get an electronic traffic light for your trouble.) Wade Wilgus Education Editor

Need help solving a wiring problem...

Hi, I'm new here; hoping someone can help me with a problem I have &, over time, maybe I can help others. I've attached a diagram for the headlight circuit on a car I built.  The headlights work, but I've not been successful adding an LED to indicate whether they are in low beam or high beam and need to get that working. I have an RGB, common cathode LED and have wired it as shown in the picture.  It may be obvious to some of you with more electrical experience than me, but but instead of off; green for low beam; blue for high beam -- I'm getting off; green when I turn the headlights on; both green & blue when I flip to high beams; stays both green & blue when I flip back to low beams; goes off if I turn the headlights off. The one thing I found while trying to trouble shoot that I wasn't expecting is that the wires connected to the 87 pins on relays 2 & 3 show +12V.  That makes sense given the lights simply have a coil between the + & - sides but I wasn't expecting that -- not sure if I'm backfeeding 12V to ground [which might explain a couple of gremlins I've been chasing in other parts of my wiring system]. So, net, I have two questions: 1.  Is there anything wrong with the headlight circuit the way it is set up in the diagram? 2.  Why wouldn't the LED be lighting as expected vs. what I'm getting per above? Note - I didn't draw in the resistors required for the LEDs to work with 12V power, but I do have them on the LED.  Both the blue & green sides do light properly when I connect them directly to the battery to test. I appreciate any help you can offer! Thanks in advance.

S2 Bolt Action Pistol Review

When joined Ibles, I knew that I didn't have any guns ready to upload, so, I decided to post some reviews, being that I already had some  guns built. The S2 pistol by  Sharir1701 seemed to be a logical choice, so I grabbed some blue rods did a little bit of testing. Please realize that even though I have just joined the site, I have a wide range of experience with knex guns, such as the ZKAR, TR8, Racker Rifle, and many of Red Book of Westmarch's replicas. In this review I am not going to do the ratings on a scale of one to ten, because Knex guns differ so much. Say you have a gun that shoots 70 feet. You give it a eight out of ten, because that is great range. However, the SRV3 shoots 500 feet, so 70 feet is NOT eight out of ten any more. Due to that, a truly honest review would rate even very nice guns quite low, due to the fact something will probably is better. If you don't understand this, that is OK, because I do, and I am the one writing the review. Also note that this one has Sharir's pin guide holder thingy. Anyway, let's jump right into the review! RANGE:  Frankly, this gun does not live up to Sharir's claim of 100+ feet. I only got 65-70 angled using two size 117 bands, which is still great range for any gun. Sharir says that it will only get that range with three bands. Sometime ago, I used 3 and did not 100 feet. I don't remember what exactly I got with three, but I am sure it didn't get past 75-80 feet. RELIABILITY: This is one of the gun's good points. Knex bolt actions don't have a great reputation for being reliable, but the S2 works nice and smooth. When I decided to review the pistol, I thought it would be nice to test the reliability and give ya'll the numbers. Here they are. I put the gun through two hundred rounds, and it had: 3 failures to fire, 4 failures to load, the pin guide broke twice, the bolt broke once, and the chambering rod popped out of the bolt twice. Now this sounds REALLY bad. However, the pin guide issues, the chambering rod issues and the failures to load were my fault.  The pin guide and chambering rods broke when I was jerking the bolt back too vigorously, and the rounds that wouldn't load were because I was manually  chambering the round, instead of having a return band chamber it. after I added the band, no trouble. ROF: Now this is one part I didn't really test. It charges slower then a ZKAR, but faster then most pin guns. It is good enough for most uses in a Knex war. COMFORT: Pretty comfortable. The handle is quite good, and I think it would be even better for someone with larger hands then mine. The problem is that there is not really a good place for your other hand to go except for the magazine, which doesn't make the best handle. To be truthful, it is kinda awkward to hold. It is too big for a pistol, but doesn't have a stock like a rifle. (Ok, you COULD use the pin guide holder as a stock, but it doesn't work that well) CUT PARTS: The gun is fine when it comes to these. There are several recommend, but you only need one cut gray rod for the chambering rod. ALL IN ALL: This is an awesome gun. not too many pieces,  looks kinda cool, and is fairly accurate. The ammo is blue rods, and i have a couple hundred of those, so it works great for me. Range seems about right, and it is very fun to shoot. In a war it would do pretty good, but the ammo is hard to find in the grass. The mag is a bit small, holding around 13 rods due to the mag pusher taking up quite a bit of space in the mag. This, a TR8, and a ZKAR would make a fine war arsenal.
