Trying to make flute

I'm Trying to make aluminum pipe flute with calculator.  http://11wall-west.com/~ph_kosel/flutomat.html http://www.whistlemaker.com/pages/flutewhistle-calculator.php Both giving me NaN. Thisis great http://www.ehow.com/how_7325964_hole-placements-flutes.html I think this method is only for major scale. Mouth hole placement gives key of flute. I think I can make same measuring from other mouth hole placements. I don't know how to measure mouth hole placement for desired keys. I'm not sure how important is pipe length. I know that longer pipe length makes flute sound lower.

Trying to identify this item?

Obviously I am new here if I posted in the wrong place please tell me where to post.    Is this a Farm implement, tool, heater. It is about 25" tall, with a 10" diameter. There is a closed bottom why it is raised off the ground i don't know. Rust area is from prior heat damage to the galvanized metal. It is too early to be a charcoal brick starter. I know it is not a chicken feeder. All answers will be appreciated.

Instructable steps being erased when I try to view them

I have been working on a QBasic instructable for some time now, and when ever I try to load a step, it takes it for ever to load, and in the process, it seems to end up saving the step during the loading when the old step is still displayed, pretty much erasing the step( I already lost a few steps. which is very annoying since a instructable like this one does not have a clear cut path that the step follow). The weird part is that it seems to work just fine when I open it on my old desktop running Windows XP, but when I open it on my laptop with Windows Vista, it gets buggy.(I'm using firefox, for the record) any suggestions?

Trying To Learn About Differnt Stuff?

Hello,  I am a disabled and housebound 55 year old man living on SSD checks.  I am not ever going to build a project to post on "Instructables",. I just barely got out of High School, and that seems like a hundred years ago, but this website fascinates me.  Before I got sick I could make anything out of wood or steel from junk I picked up I found at the dump.  I certainly am not an Educated Individual, but I am not stupid either, my Wife says I would be dangerous if I knew how to use my fancy digital Multi-Meter.  If I can get it straight in my head I can understand some things, but Electric Circuits and Componentes hit the wall in my brain.  I have never had any Training or Instruction about that kind of thing.  My question is why in the world would I be charged $40.00 (which I do not have to spend), for two years Membership in Instructables, when I am just an old sick man that will probably never even build another camp fire or anything else for the rest of my life?  I was just trying to learn some of this stuff to keep my mind Challenged and Hungry to Learn.  I spend Hours on this computer another man bought for me, so I would not loose my mind sitting here looking at the walls, or watching TV.  I just had to ask this question, to satisfy my Uneducated mind.  Can someone Please, Enlighten me to what the deal is, or is this some Private Covert Club that people like me can't be a member of because I don't know the private words to use or the handshake?

Features sound effects, 40 stages, 7 well designed levels and a bright and funky colourscheme! ===Download!=== Size: 42mb (approx) To run this you will need PowerPoint 2000 or above (I think older versions WILL work, but I'm not 100% sure) with Microsoft 95 or higher as your Operating System. So far I know this works with: Vista, XP and 95. To download the file click the link below: DOWNLOAD There are no viruses/spyware/sh!t that messes up your computer in the file. I'm trying to make a Breast Plate

Hey, I'm going to build a piece of FANTASY chest armor. I'm not going for realism or authenticity. Just making "a pile of spikes" that looks cool in my opinion. I'm thinking of making something to the equivalent of a low neck line tank top out of leather / tight weave canvas, and then covering it in steel plates. I'm thinking of dividing the front suit into groups and bands of plate. So I'm going to have a set of bands from the right and left chest, then another section that joins them down the center. A section for the abdomen, a section for each side, and then similar sections for the back. I'm then going to bolt the shoulders onto their respective chest plates. So I've done a crappy sketch on GIMP, Kinda explaining what I'm going to do for the center line of the chest. I think If I do this right It'll allow a lot of flexibility, might even be able to see my chest expand and contract while breathing which I think would be a cool effect. Is there any reason why this wont work? But are there any key factors that I need to take into account when doing this? Parts that need to be more flexible than others?

3D printed combination lock anyone?

I am in the finnishing stages for a fully 3D printed dial combination lock, similar to what would be used on a safe.Unlike what you might find in other places there is no metal parts. No crappy amount of possible combinations either, 72 per dial dial...I took me a few weeks and quite some filament to get from a draft in Sketchup to something that actually works as planned. As it was more a training excersize in Sketchup for me I had the the following goals:1. Everything is 3D printed with as little afterwork as possible.2. All required springs are 3D printed as well as all other moving or stationary parts.3. Where otherwise fasteners or screws would be required only short leftovers of filament are used to keep the parts in place.Only exception for security reason is the mounts for the front dial and holder. These should be glued or screwed in place if the actual intention is to use it as a working lock.4. The lock shall not be pickable by means of felling, hearing or just trying out random combinations. The above points I got sorted to my satisfaction. However I would like some feedback from trustworth beta testers on the general design and functionality. It is one thing to design something that just works but a bit harder to design it the best possible way.Another big drawback currently is that it seems to be impossible to export proper STL files in Sketchup once they reach a certain complexity.Automatic services or programs to fix these issues result in drastically increased file sizes. Some of the problematic part go from just under 200kb to over 10mb after "fixed".This is not acceptable for me and I have to work on fixing this issue. Most slicers correct these tiny errors automatically and produce a correct print but I prefer proper STL files of small size and complexity over inflated ones that I then need to double check for a long anyways.A few details need changing as my tests showed that you can't drive up print details to a certain level without risking to be unable to mount the parts without further sanding.I hope to have a full set of clean STL files ready for testing by the end of this month. If you are interested to try it out and maybe contribute to an improved version your time will be valued by being mentioned as a beta tester for the upcoming Instructable.Be warned though! This is not for the faint of heart and certainly not for someone who does not know how to calibrate all aspects of the 3D printer involved. The lock also uses quite a bit of filament, currently around 37m all up but I am working on reducing this by replacing solid parts with framework instead where possible. The assembly can be time consuming and frustrating if you realise only once finnished that you have certain parts in the wrong position or orientation. But as said, my goals were not really on making it as easy as possible LOLWhy desing a lock that is neither secure enough nor free of metal parts if there is other options ;)If you happen to work with an Inventor and PLA on the left side then I can provide ready to go .gx files if prefered. They would then be already confirmed to be working and usable on one of my printers.Let me know what you think ...
