Computerless typing

Hey,    Would anybody know how i could make a keyboard that would work without a computer? My idea would by a keyboard that you could type in, and the signals would be sent to some circuitry (would an arduino work?) and stored until you could send the files of everything typed up into a notepad file. It would also have to be battery powered, and preferably not bigger then 2-3 times the size of a normal keyboard. I am making the idea so that i could type stuff when at places other then home (and i dont feel like taking my laptop (mostly for stuff like on the subway, or when waiting... (i don't care that it will look absolutely ridiculous!) Anyway, thanks for your help! Even if you don't know how to, but have any ideas, share them! everything is welcome! Thanks.

Story Type?

Okay, I really like the "How to ship a tiger to Canada" story, and I'd like to know if that type of story (genre, if you will) has a name). Also, I think it would be fun to try making my own, so if anyone (Guppie?) has any tips, I'd be grateful. Thanks!

Backward Typing!

I just published a topic on cleaning juice stains from carpet. (home section) When I first started writing the topic, my 1st sentence came out ".der gnihtemoS" At first, I said 'what the??!!"  but then I realized that it was PRECISELY backwards of what I had written. "Something red." After deleting the glitch sentence, it went normally. Curious.

Type of Animation

So I saw this video which is a wonderful video on physics: http://vimeo.com/64951553 I really love the video content but was unsure about the name of the type of animation she used. Also, I was unsure about how I could go about doing this type of animation or similar. A few days ago, it struck me that technically speaking, she could have drawn a frame and then redrawn it multiple times and played them. Unfortunately, this is a huge amount of work to do so I was also wondering whether there was a faster way to achieve this type of animation (assuming I already have all the frames for a regular animation without the moving lines). I am not exactly a genius in the art and animation field but was very curious. I guess it would be possible to do a small scale animation like a title where I could write a title or something and then redraw it five or six times as close as possible and make it a GIF image but again, on a larger scale there would be a huge amount of work that would needed to be done.

Type of wood? Answered

I'm building a small simple boat however im stumped as to what type of ply wood to use and the thickness. I want to be durable so i thought of 4x8x1/2 plywood but the closest lumber seller is lowes and they dont carry anything of that size. So i figured i'd go to 4x8x1/4 only thing is its OSB utility panel wood, the only problem i don't know what utility wood is, i know what OSB wood is just not utility. My next option would be 4x4x3/8 plywood sheathing. So my question is which of those should i use or if i should use them at all?

Type of diode

Hey everyone, I recently had an ASUS laptop to repair and after troubleshooting, found some damaged components among which is this surface mount diode (kindly see picture). I looked around for a datasheet but cannot find anything. Am also unable to find out exactly what type of diode it is from its code marking. I've had results varying from a 'leakage diode' to '3.3V zener diode'. However, I am suspecting it might be a schottky diode since it was in what looks like a boost circuit. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Code marking: 100 98FP1  j Thanking everyone in anticipation. Kind Regards, Nawaz

USB type C

Greetings, USB type c please? So I have spent alot of time researching different ways to light small ornament designs. I have considered EL lighting and LED, yet, in order for these lighting techniques to work sufficiently, you need 12v of power. There are Instructables to power these lightning methods per USB, however this ofcourse only provides the lightning with 5v. What I find quite surprising however is that there are no tutorials whatsoever with the new usb type: USB-C. Since USB-C can apparently provide 20v I wonder why there is little to no information available concerning these subjects. Are there technical limitations I dont know about? If not: would anyone please help me make usb-c powered led strips ^^

Help with Dynamo types

I have a question for everybody out there. It has been a very long time since I did this type of electrical design work, and for the life of me I can’t remember the principals. I know there are many different ways to generate electricity by using mechanical motion, and converting a motor into a dynamo is very easy. What I am trying to do is to make a brushless dynamo. I have taken my inspiration from a cheap hand cranked torch, and intend to improve on it a lot. In this torch it has a coil which has a flat disk magnet sitting above it. The magnet is spun creating the charge in the coil and is used by the LED's in the torch. What I want to know is how specifically the voltage (potential difference) is created in the coil. My experience of stationary coils is where the magnet is rotated inside the coil. Could someone please explain it to me? Many thanks.

Bullet Types and Designs

This is a place to post your various bullet types. I have included a short tutorial for what I call "Buck Shot" because it sort of has a spread of blue pieces. The other bullet is also in Gamer5's "Powerful Guns" forum topic. The other bullet isn't very special except that it has a hard impact, but it has a short range."Buck Shot"* Materials: Any Knex gun in which the ram comes almost (within 1cm) of the end. Seven (7) blue spacers (there are six (6) in the picture, though you need Seven (7)) One of those launchers that you can get in some sets and that you flick to shoot a Missile about ten feetPicture 1: MaterialsPicture 2: Cock the gun and put the launcher in the barrelPicture 3: Put the spacers in the launcher in the barrelPicture 4: A self-explanitory picture of the other bullet I mentionedPlease post any of your bullet designs and what they are good for.*I have posted this here instead of in a seperate instructable because it is too short to have it's own instructable.

Looking for a type of switch

Hi People of Instructables! I hope I am posting in the right place. I am looking for a switch that when you walk pass a point it shuts off and when you walk the other way past that point goes back on.   For example... I have a flash-light in my hand, when I walk through a doorway into a house the light turns off.  I go through the doorway the other way (to the outside) the light turns on. Conditions: It has to be able to do this through cloth as the flashlight could be in my pocket. It can only work when you walk through the doorway but not when standing near the doorway Does anything like this exist?  if yes what is it called? I have been searching the 'net and not been successful as I don't have a clue what I am looking for. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading my post! TheLastPrincess

How do you type?

Well my computer teacher says always to keep your hands in the home row position(look at picture.) and not to do move your fingers around just to move them up and down to the according key. By the way the home row is.. a s d f g h j k l ; Now is this a better way to type or just to move your fingers around. another explanation: he says to keep your fingers on a s d f g h j k l ; and then curl them down or up to hit the key. Hopefully the pictures will clear it up.

Why do people type like this?

W Wh Why Why d Why do Why do p Why do pe Why do peo Why do peop Why do peopl Why do people Why do people t Why do people ty Why do people typ Why do people type Why do people type l Why do people type li Why do people type lik Why do people type like Why do people type like t Why do people type like th Why do people type like thi Why do people type like this? You see how space and time consuming that was?  I've recently seen a bunch of people writing like that, not just on youtube, but IN REAL LIFE!  Just today during class I happened to glance on an art portfolio where the owner of it wrote like that and then she had the nerve to say "You wish you thought of that".  No, there's a reason why nobody else thought of that.  To make it worse, there are people who go on and "deconstruct" the sentences so the result looks like a big arrow that just wastes space.  Long story short, it will just bug people.  Please knock it off if you do it at all.  And don't talk to me for doing it above, I was doing that to prove the points I made afterwards  as sarcasm. EDIT: For all of you doing it in the comments, all you're doing is proving how stupid you are and you are also making me wonder how you even manage to breathe.

What's the name of this type of switch? Answered

What's the name of the type of switch then works by rotating it, and you can keep rotating it on one direction.  Like the kind of switch that controls the volume in a car.  I'm assuming that every click switches between being it conducting and not conducting?  I need to use one with a micro controller (I don't want to use a potentiometer because they can only rotate so much) and I need to know the name so i can buy one.

Electrolytic Capacitor types/ uses? Answered

About electrolytic (aluminium) capacitors..... what do the low ESR ones do that normal ones don't? And how come they have these capacitors in bipolar types, but not all are bipolar? Is it because of the size/cost? And lastly, can you make an LC circuit with any electrolytic capacitor?                                                                                                             Many thanks P.S: In which frequency range are LC resonant ciruits best used? Cos I heard that lower/higher than a specific point, they become impractical or something....
