What nation is the best in terms of firepower?

There are always good contests available for those keen on competing, but what about a real challenge that might run for many months? I am talking about rediscovering ancient technologies and ways of creating things. We have a lot of evidence that is in massive contrast to what archeologists want to make us believe. Be it the way the pyramids were build or just in what timeframe, the use of technologies thought to be impossible at that time or just the knowledge of things like star constellations that are not not visisble to the naked eye. In a lot of areas it seems not only archeologists but also some "secret powers" try to put a hold on discovering what was really possible thausands or maybe even millions of years ago. Things like the knowledge of distand star systems that are invisible to the naked eye might never find a suitable explanation. But what about tools and technologies used to create stonework that is hard if not impossible to create with our modern tools and technologies? I dare everyone to participate in the impossible! We know thausands of years ago milling, drilling, machining and lathe work was done but we have no real clue how it was done. At times when the rest of human kind was happy using stone tools and otherwise just hunt and gather for food some areas saw an explosion in technology. Within less than a few hundert years some builders in Egypt went from simple and explainable works to stuff impossible to do in today times. Same for India, the UK and the american continent. No hardend steel tools were ever found, no machines, no evidence on the how to, just the perfect work. Here is the challenge I propose: Come up with: 1. A way to cut or drill granite and harder rocks without modern tools or tech and still do it faster and more accurate. 2. A way to match hard rocks to each other with a precision down to less than a mm - as shown in many ancient buildings preferably on a big scale. 3. A way to create delicate carvings in hard rocks, things like hollow heads less than 5cm in size or cravings with spaces of less than 3mm wide and several cm deep - as shown in many India sculptures. 4. A way to build a lathe capable or turning several tons of steel with an accuracy better than half a mm and without electrical or combustion engines. 5. A feasable way to transport and accurately position several tons of stone - again without electricity or combustion engines. 6. A way to create sculptures with an accuracy shown by the ancient Egyptian ones, meaning perfection... 7. .... I could go on but I guess you get the picture ;) The solutions could be as simple as using sound and vibration or as complicated as finding a way to create tools hard and durable enough to proove the archeologists are right after all. And before you cry out that it is impossible: Consider the evidence! We know it was done but we don't know how, so let's show the world how we at Instructables solve the problems noone can explain ;) I can't offer any real contest, prices or such but maybe someone is reading this and willing to provide the base and soem prices?

Ultimate Frisbee rules run to twenty pages, so I came up with this for my classes. I thought I'd share it, but I couldn't see the point in posting an Instructable when my school's rules require written permission from every parent involved before pictures of kids go online, so I just took advantage of Rachel fixing the topic-posting bug. Indoor Ultimate Frisbee Lite (“Indoor Lite”) 1. The play's the thing: all players and observers must keep to The Spirit Of The Game. Teams shoukd self-referee. If any dispute requires a decision by a bystander or observer, that decision is binding. 2. The game may be played with and disc agreed upon by both team captains. 3. Teams of up to 8, with a maximum of 5 players on the field. 4. The game continues for either an agreed length of time, or to an agreed score (for example, “first to five”). 5. Before play, team captains agree the end zones and playing field, and choose ends to defend. An indoor game has no “out of bounds”, and play continues as normal if the disc bounces off walls, ceiling or fixtures in the room. 6. When the opposing team gains possession of the disc, it is called a turnover. 7. Ultimate is non-contact sport – intentional obstruction of, or contact with another player will result in a turnover. If a turnover is the result of a rule-break, the disc is handed to the nearest opposing player. 8. At the start of play, each team gathers in their end zone. One captain throws the disc towards the opposing team. Nobody may enter the playing field until the disc passes the half-way mark. 9. A point is scored when the disc is caught in (or above) the opposing team's end zone. 10. After a point is scored, all players return to their own end-zone, and the player who caught the disc to score the point throws the disc to re-start the game. 11. A player in possession of the disc may not move, but may pivot on one foot. “Travelling” results in a turnover. 12. The player in possession of the disc must throw the disc within five seconds – any near-by player may count to five out loud. Holding the disc past five seconds is a turnover. 13. If the disc hits the ground, possession passes to whichever team did not touch it last – if team A throws it and nobody catches it, team B gain possession. If team A throw the disc, team B block its flight and it then hits the ground, then team A regains possession. If team A throw the disc, but team B catch the disc in the air, team B gains possession and play continues. 14. If two players catch the disc, whoever caught it first gains possession. If two players catch the disc simultaneously, a single round of rock, paper, scissors determines possession. 15. Unlimited substitutions may be made after any point is scored. House Rules. Because Indoor Lite can be played in a wide range of venues, typically school gyms or halls, some “house rules” may be developed, such as “if the disc goes through the basket ball hoop, that's a point as well” or “if the disc falls behind the vaulting horse, possession turns over and everybody goes back to their ends to start play again”. Before play begins, any new or visiting players must be made aware of the house rules. I also blogged this.

What is the actual difference between these discs? Or is it just a scam to make you buy more discs?

I've been looking for the ultimate glass glue. I have tried many that claim to be, but in reality they are pretty much Testors model glue in a different package. All I have come across dry a bit rubbery and while it may be desirable in some projects, with a little flexing, the glue peals away. I have seen glass glued to glass that was clear, rigid and unyielding. So I know that it does exist. Suggestions.....

After weeks of waiting, I finally got my k'nex back after moving. One of the first things I did was solving a few problems with my crossbow trigger. It took me about 4 hours of thinking and building prototypes. The following things have changed: The friction has been reduced by a great amount. It became much more compact. Does not require ductape anymore. Does not need the exotic hinge piece. Is now very easy to fire. I decided to show the new trigger using a well-built V2 crossbow; which now can finally use it, due to lower friction. This trigger is ideal for people that want a trigger on the v2, it should be buildable from the pictures. (The coloured trigger is the first version, the same as the gray one though) Edit: Instructable: https://www.instructables.com/id/Ultimate-Crossbow-V2/

The reason I'm bringing this up is that in urban conditions you may have a rally nice hill.... that leads right into an intersection. I would love to add these to my latest bomber. Also, can you mount normal wheels on 15" mountain board trucks?Let me know what you guys think.-Butt

There are makers, and there are Makers. Two years ago, Dr Malcolm Coulthard, of Newcastle's Royal Victoria Infirmary, had a patient too small for dialysis. The baby girl had suffered kidney problems following bowel surgery, but, at only 6 lbs in weight, she was too small even for the "child sized" dialysis machines.Rather than let the girl die, Dr Coulthard, with the help of senior children's kidney nurse Jean Crosier, designed and built her a dialysis machine from scratch in his garage.Every so often, the idea of Instructables Awards pops up, but only for people on the site. Kitewife said now they are people who deserve a Robot patch, and agree, but more so. We need to recognise the achievements of people like this, so I propose we set up an award - the Ultimate Maker award.Nothing dramatic, just a simple certificate they can frame, a Robot patch, and maybe a logo they can display on their website if they have one. What say you, Makers?BBC Story

Pirate ship bedroom? Shiver me timbers! Designer Steve Kuhl used 2x12 ribs to construct the hull of the ship, covering them with layers of 1/2 inch plywood to act as the planking. "But that's not all. The room is also decked out with a rope bridge that connects the pirate ship to the top of a jail cell, and a rope suspended from the ship's hull provides drop-in access to the closet. There's also a completely hidden spiral slide, that lets you travel downstairs in a more adventurous way." Check out this pirate ship bedroom, there's 14 pictures that show the bedroom from all angles and even a computer model that illustrates the spiral slide. via: mymodernmet.com

NASA and the Air Force Office of Scientific Research (AFOSR) have launched a water-powered rocket 1300 feet into the atmosphere! The rocket was actually propelled by a frozen mixture of "nanoscale aluminium" (isn't that "dust"?) and water, pumped in at the consistency of toothpaste and then frozen in place. The propellant is known as ALICE (aluminium and ice - convenient, eh?)Earlier this month, the collaborative team, Drs. Steven F. Son and Tim Pourpoint of Purdue, Rich Yetter and Grant Risha of Penn State, Vigor Yang of Georgia Tech, Harold Bell and Frank Bauer of NASA, and Mitat Birkan and Thomas Russell of AFOSR watched as the rocket soared high into the sky, to 1300 feet near Purdue University.ALICE is generating excitement among the researchers because it has the potential to replace some liquid or solid propellants. It is a promising propellant energetically. Theoretically, when it is optimized, it could have a higher performance than a conventional propellant. In addition, because of the abundance and easy handling of the raw materials, ALICE could potentially become the propellant of choice for missions leaving other planets, since it could be (relatively) easy to manufacture from local raw materials and far easier to store than cryogenic fuels. So here is my challenge. I play an ultimate frisbee pickup game every week (Tuesday at the Harvard commons in Cambridge, MA, at 7PM stop by and play!). We have a great LED frisbee that extends the games into the night, but once it gets really dark telling teams apart becomes challenging. I hit upon the idea of making LED 'throwies' for one's body. Take a little 3v watch battery, tape the leads of the LED on with some electrical tape, and then use a safety pin clip it onto to clothing, and blamo!, you have an LED pin that makes playing ultimate frisbee in the dark surprisingly easy, fun, and colorful. There are some problems with this. First, it takes a little time to wire up the LEDs. It is a fun group activity to start with, but this is a pickup game so people wander in all of the time to play, and each time this happens someone has to run off to make some more LED pins. It would be awesome if I just had a bag of them ready to go. Second, I have to pull the pins apart after each game. Third, my red and yellow LEDs (blue and green are fine) really need a resistor as they tend to go dull. Finally, I would really like to make these guys a little more robust by fixing the leads on more solidly. So, with that said, here are some things I could use some ideas on. 1) Cheap toggles. I needs them. I would be willing to toss a few more dollars at these pins if I didn't have to tear them apart each time. Toggle switches would mean I wouldn't have to tear out the battery each time. I am having a really hard time finding cheap small toggles on the inter-tubes. Does anyone know of some good places to look? There is also the added challenge of finding a way to attach the toggle in a mildly robust manner. 2) I am looking to rig these pins up into something a little more sturdy. I was pondering soldering the LEDs to the 3v coin batteries I am using and then super gluing the solder. Is this workable, or should I just break down and buy some battery holders? If battery holders are the answer, again, does anyone know of a cheap place to look? Finally, does anyone have any other interesting suggestions? I am willing to drop a little money into the project, but I really don't want to be spending 5 dollars per pin. In my ideal world my final product would look like an LED, a battery, and switch mounted on a safety pin in such a manner that if someone sticks it to their shirt and rolls into the ground it doesn't break. Getting all of those things to come together in an even vaguely cost effective manner is proving to be a bit of a challenge. Any ideas would be great!

Whenever I run Minecraft it will come up with an error message saying bad video driver and OpenGl and such. I deleted my .minecraft and got a fresh new folder without any mods and it didn't fix the problem. Also, when doing the Java check it won't run and when going on a game on Pogo it won't run and says I need to install Java. However that is only for Google Chrome but it WILL work on Internet Explorer. I have Java enabled as a plugin as well. Please help I have one more thing to say: Before this laptop was Windows Vista Home Premium. Now I upgraded it to Windows 7 Ultimate x32 bit and I did it for free from YouTube, Lol ikr. All was required was to mount the Ultimate to a virtual drive using PowerISO and to install Windows 7 and then to use a program called Windows 7 Loader by DAZ v.2.2 or something like that which would activate the key and before I activated it, it was already saying it was activated. Lol long story short, HOW CAN I FIX THIS? (Also my video driver crashes once in a while like 4 times a day in use and recovers XD). Please reply! :)

Alright well this takes too long so I might as well just start it. Instead of entering and making it a contest anyone can nominate a gun that fits the category. Sorry to disappoint anyone if I did. We are still comparing guns...now we're just comparing all of them instead of entries. Alright from now on...no voting for yourself. Put it this way. What weapon from each category would you want to have and use most in a battle? Don't just put pride in your weapons. Also it would be great if you actually built the gun you vote for...don't just make assumptions...well I guess except for best replica. Weapons mentioned Best Side Arm- TheDunkis with the TDS Radioactive with the SPEC-9 Dsman with dsman's Side Arm popomaster with the glock Most Innovative Gun- popomaster with the glock Best Grenade/Explosive TheDunkis with the D model splodies/ DX8 Splody Bomb I_am_Canadian with the War Bomb flames with the F25 Anti-Personnel Grenade Best Replica of Another Weapon- TheDunkis with the AK-74 Katarukito with the Dragunov Best Gun Overall I_am_Canadian with the super cannon dsman with the DD-27 I_am_Canadian and knexgunner12 with their Battle Rifle I entered some of the guns I remembered but if you have other guns you want to vote for and they fit the category then go ahead. Just copy the form and type out the name of both the creator and their weapon under each category. Best Side Arm- Most Innovative- Best Grenade/Explosive- Best Replica- Best Gun Overall-

Yo yo peoples I was just wondering who would all be interested in my super contest. My grand challenge. My...my...something else great...the coo-- the aweso--...THE ULTIMATE SHOWDOWN YEAH!! Sorry getting a little excited. Sorry if this topic kills most of your other ideas for those who start contests. OK well I basically wanted to know what people thought were the best side arms, grenades, innovative gun, etc.. We had one for snipers so I'll just leave that one out as I'm sure no one wants to build them all. Well for now I just want to see who would all be interested in joining. I need at least 5 entries in each category so if I get enough then I'll set up the contest. Here are a couple of the categories I'll be having but there may be more (#=how many judges we have)1-Best Side Arm dsman(#s), TheDunkis, popomaster, Radioactive1-Most Innovative gun Tech-king, jollex, extreme builder, popomaster2-Best Grenade/Explosive TheDunkis, I_am_Canadian, skate1-Best semi-auto TheDunkis, extreme builder -Best replica of another weapon TheDunkis, T-Man, dsman,Katarukito-Best gun overall dsman, extreme builder, I_am_CanadianWe'll see what else comes up. I'll also need quite a few judges who will judge (duh) at least one of the categories that they won't be entering. They need to build all of the guns and test them and of course I'll take word from the public as well. The rules for entering a gun will go as follow.1. You can only enter a gun that has an instructable sorry no out of instructable sites this just makes it easier2. You cannot enter a gun that isn't yours even if you made the instructable for someone else3. Your gun can't be someone elses but with mods. It has to be mostly your gun although it can contain some parts from other guns.4. You have no word on anything in the category you enter. If I see any smack talk or bragging or if I see you trying to convince the judges then you are automatically eliminated from the whole thing and...you'll be shunned by me for the rest of your life. Shun shun shuuuuuunn! If anyone has ideas for any other category be free to submit...preferbly if you'd be willing to judge it. I will not take anything relating to power.

Hey everyone, I recently just had the idea of making the ultimate man laptop case, and once i get some $$$, it will be put into affect. Its body will be made out of a harbor frieght tools case (metal), gonna cut out the front and reinforce with wood, then goes on (2) 6v solar cells. Behind on the inside there will be foam surrounding the DC Volt reader, and if i can manage, two cheap portable speakers that i have that run off a USB cable/aux. They can easily be converted though. Im going to cut out a slot for my SSD to be placed as well as some headphones if theres room. On the bottom part, im going to send those wires to the power controller for the /solar/ and the /battery/ which will be a 12v Gel RC Car battery (long ones that are fairly big). After that comes the DC-AC inverter which will be disected to save space and the plugs will be movable. SPDT switch comes next to switch from 12v to the 5v USB hub thats gonna be installed. Foam will encase everything, then im throwing some .25 aluminum sheeting on top for a nice finished look. This whole project should run me about $350 or so. I realize this case might be heavy, but I think once most of the parts have been sheded of there cases then I think it might be a little lighter. Going to overheat and/or short circuit something? I plan on making a channel for each seperate item in the foam, and throwing 2 USB fans on them. Any help would be greatley appricated with this project :)
