Hi all. I am looking to upgrade my CPU. I am currently running a Pentium 4 at about 3.0 GHZ. I was thinking about these: Pentium Dual Core Core 2 Duo Core 2 Quad Xeon E3110 I am running on a socket 775. I have a graphics card. I dont think there really is anything else to say. So, what cpu from the above would give the best Bang For Your Buck? The games i play are Grand Theft Auto San Andreas, and Call of Duty 2. I may get COD-MW2 and GTA4. Again, which CPU should i buy? I buy from Circuit City. THANKS!

I gave Microsoft until SP1 for vista, I tried to like it, but lets count the annoyances. SLOW, even with all the twaddle turned off. 2 minutes to boot, five before wireless would connect. Disk copy at a snails pace. 12 minutes to write a one gig usb 2.0 jump drive 10 gig restore partition. 10 gig win sxs folder being repeatedly told "you need permission to do that" on my explicative deleted computer even after turning UAC off. Enoughs enough Now I'm running XP Fast 45 seconds from power on to connected to the network 7 gigs total install 2 minutes to copy one gig to a jumpdrive. Make the upgrade, it's worth it.

I am interested in buying an EeePC with a 7" screen. However, the flash memory is only 4 or 8Gb depending on the model. Is it possible to upgrade the memory by simply unplugging something and plugging something else in? That is, a non-soldering, reversible upgrade?

So basically the shotgun i modded.what i did was take quite alot of peices off which like some of the guide rods which helped the pump go back so i took that off which meant that you could pull back the pump even further than it could originally so then i did that and added more rubber bands and then the firing pin broke so then what i had to do is add some tape to the firing pin is it is made up of 3 parts but then i kept adding rubber bands it would get more and more powerful until i relised that the firing pin kept jamming inside the block trigger as the firing pin was so tense that it pushed past the block trigger and then jammed os maybe someone could come up with a new trigger for this gun..

Ok so im looking to upgrade my DIY portable boombox for the 2nd time and one of the things i want to add is a solar panel to supplement the battery power from my 12v 7ah sla battery, that by itself will currently run the thing for about 3hrs at full blast. The new version will have Directed CSX-650 component speakers: (bottom of this page) http://www.lightav.com/car/directedaudio/directedspeakers.html and the amp will be one of these: http://shop.41hz.com/shop/item.asp?catid=42&itemid;=43 , so what id like to know is what tech spec should i be looking for in a solar panel that would be capable of charging the battery while the boombox is not in use and will supplement the battery power to extend the run time while it is in use? Also will i need some kind of circuit/component to prevent overcharge of the battery? Oh and is there some kind of simple light/gauge i can wire in to show the charge level of the battery?

I bought an Atheros wireless-N mini PCI-E card for an HP DV7 series laptop, to replace the Broadcom wireless-G card, however, when installed, I just get a bios error "unsupported network card". I removed it and restarted with the original card and it works fine. I trhen tried installing the card live, and it detected it and installed the software, but then BSOD (my first one for Windows 7 actually), so I swapped back to the original card again. I then installed the card in the secondary bay, live, and it installed the drivers successfully, but when swapped with the original card again (the wires don't reach to the other bay), it failed to boot again. How can I replace the original card?

Hello everyone, I found a Thermoelectric mini fridge at the dump a couple weeks ago and so far I have been disappointed with how cold it gets so I figured I would replace the peltier chip with a higher wattage one, the original ran on only 12v with 60watts but the new one uses 16v and 192 watts, so unfortunately when I switched the chips the fridge makes a clicking noise presumably from drawing to much current. the questions I have are, how can I build or cheaply obtain a variable (it would be nice to control power) 16v 12amp power supply or modify the existing board to output more power, would it pose a problem to run the fridge with no load attached to the previous 12v supply, and is it necessary to replace the fans with higher power ones? any other advise would be much appreciated, thanks in advance :)

I would like to know how difficult it would be to swap out the charging port on an S4 for the new hyper charging ports on the new Droid Turbo. I know there is not a lot of free space with in the cell for mods. And I am assuming that the hyper charger is smaller. That being said the tools for a repair swap out do not seem that difficult to master. What else would be needed to make this project successful, a power converter? Basically I want to see if its possible to take the outdated cells people would normally throw away or trade and mod them into something of desire for a cheaper price. Thank you for your time Instructable Community

I just logged in again since the site maintenance. First impression is I don't like it. This is mostly opinion and a few observations of the changes: The You heading at the top of the page is ...out of place looking. Most all websites on the net where you log in show your username when you're logged in. I really feel its a much more powerful feature to have the username. i.e. when ebay switched to 'my ebay' they put a link to your profile as your username at the top. On the 'You' page - my instructables don't show up and I'm prompted with 'post your first instructable', despite my having 2. I can still view mine via search, but they do not show up in my account. When on an instructable the text wraps funny while mousing over the stars to rate - it overlaps the frame. The new orange seems different, is it darker? feels drab - could be me though. The removed ability to access a menu or directly (quickly) click through to 'recent' kinda bugs me - I like to see all the new stuff FIRST, before going to the viral-ly popular featured and high ranked ibles.

I have an exceed sunfire buggy 1/10th and I am planning on getting a brushless upgrade. I don't know if the battery and car itself can handle the one i want. I have a 7.2v 4200mahNiMh battery pack and the motor I want to get is a 5.5T 6000kv motor. I was wondering if anyone knew if my car could handle that. If it couldn't, would a 8.5T 4000kv motor be better? And how fast would the second motor go? Please comment soon if you know anything about these motors.

I wish to upgrade my Laptop Display from Non Touch to Touch. I did a bit of research on the internet, but am unable to find a proper answer. Is it possible? I would love to migrate from half HD non touch display to full HD touch display (even IPS). But here in India, I'm unable to find it in this config for 15.6" size (atleast, not cheaply). I have found one display which has a few things common with my old display. Both have TFT with LED Backlight, same size, aspect ratio, resolution and no of pins. Old Display: 15.6 inch TFT with LED Backlight (Non touch) (16:9). Resolution: 1366 x 768. 40 Pins. Part Number: B156XW04V5 Datasheet: https://www.olimex.com/Products/OLinuXino/A20/A20-LCD15.6/resources/B156XW04V5.pdf Cost: ₹5000 ($75 approx) Proposed New Display: 15.6 inch TFT with LED Backlight (Touch) (16:9). Resolution: 1366 x 768. 40 Pins. Part Number: B156XTT01 Datasheet: http://www.datasheetspdf.com/datasheet/download.php?id=923648 Cost: ₹12500 ($180 approx) Would I need to change LVDS cable as well? Existing LVDS Cable: Part Number: P5LJ0 Datasheet: http://www.s-manuals.com/pdf/motherboard/compal/compal_la-7221p_r1.0_schematics.pdf Here are the answers to some questions you might have: 1. Laptop is Acer Aspire TimelineX 5830TG. 2. My Laptop did not have any variant with 1080p display or touch display. 3. The old display is slightly cracked. Hence I need to change it anyway. 4. The top flap, display mounting brackets and bezel are damaged too. And the laptop is 5 years old and am unable to get the replacement parts. Hence I am planning on building a new housing for the new display, in any case. (Suggestions in this regard are also welcome) So a bit of variation in physical dimensions is not a problem. 5. Motherboard is Intel i5 2410M with Intel 3000 graphics processor. Graphics Card is Nvidia 540M. (I couldn't find supported resolutions on official websites, but according to 3rd Party websites, both should support 1080p) 6. I have some experience with Electronic Disassembly and Assembly. 7. I can do soldering, but I'm not very good at it. Hence, would like to avoid it, if possible.

Hi all. I am looking to upgrade my CPU cooler in my pc. Mycurrent cpu is a Pentium 4 3.0Ghz. My Motherboard is an Asus P5KPL-AM-EPU. I am trying to decide whether to buy a Pentium Dual-Core E6500, or a Core 2 Duo E7600. I USUALLY buy from CircuitCity because of their prices. Again, my choices are: Pentium Dual-Core E6500 Core 2 Duo E7600 I want something BETTER than the Pentium 4, but I dont want to spend much more than 200 dollars, preferably.. closer to 120 or so.. I know that those prices are CHEAP for a CPU, but well.. I dont have the money for a NEW pc, or a Core 2 Quad or expensive Core 2 Duo. If you're wondering why I dont have the money for a new pc or a more expensive CPU, Its because im 12. :D PLEASE REPLY ASAP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

I'm used to make 2D barcode in Word 2003, it was simple to use and worked very well. Now, I upgrade ma word to 2007, I'm wondering can I use the same add-in in Word 2007? Or should I get a new one? If I upgrade to 2010 later, is there any possibility that the same add-in will work well without any upgrading?

Hear me out before you think about commenting. Ive got my LG R405 here, and i really like it, i added line out to it and use my sub with it. its all good, but some songs (whether the sub is plugged in or not) make my sound card cut out. (IE it'll make some white noise then stop producing sound) i have to skip the song before my sound will come back online. I was wondering what could i do to fix this? im guessing its something with the capacitors, being SMD caps, they might not be able to let the sound control chip handle the big changes in sound frequencies or something, im not too sure. dont try and tell me its impossible to resolve this issue. it is not a software problem, it is a hardware problem. i need to upgrade something, be it the capacitors, or maybe the amount of current supplied to the sound driver chip. if its capacitors, where should i be upgrading them? on the outputs or the input voltage?

Okay- My boyfriend thinks I'm absolutely crazy, but I would like to modify the bicycle generator a la this instructable. I was hoping to have some way to attach it to an axle of an 18 wheeler tractor. Then the trouble would be hooking up the battery to a generator so we wouldn't have to pay for gas to power the ac and tv when we're sitting still. I'm hoping some good mind out there would have some tips! Many thanks!

I have at least 11 premium membership upgrades Iv'e acquired over the years and they never work. I am logged in, click "redeem, then it asks me to log in again, then I am taken to the homepage. Nothing. I tried on Chrome, Canary and FF. (highSierra) A while back I gave a few memberships to friends and they had similar experiences. Ultimately it's no huge deal for me, my experience doesn't change, but its a bummer when I am trying to loop people into this community and the onboarding reward fails ya know? I see quite a few posts here with similar experiences too. Thanks in advance.

I have an Asus K53SV Laptop and the power jack is busted, like the internal connections are loose. I'm looking to upgrade it to a panel-mount one that's screwed into the case instead mounted to the mother-board. How do I find out which kind to order online? It's not like I can go to the barrel-jack store with my laptop brick and see which one fits. Is there a standard sizing scheme or something? I couldn't find one. Also, is there a MagSafe like system for this? I'd love to have it come apart if someone trips over the cord (again... that's why it's broken now... >.<)

Ive got an old New Bright RC truck, i got it around 2000 so as you can assume the batteries arent very good anymore. im not looking to repair the batteries though, im looking to upgrade the truck with a little bit of some newer technologies. heres where i ask for help: i dont want to overpower the control board in the car, since it may have adverse effects on how it performs, so i just want to up the power to the motor. i have some D2583 and B1658 transistors, i found a datasheet for the D2583's that says they are high power NPN transistors, but no such luck with the B1658's. using the D2583's (i have 6 of them), i want to create a circuit that runs from the main board, and acts as a second H-Bridge (or some sort of control circuit) that controls more power, so i can safely run more voltage to the drive motor without overpowering the main circuit board. does anybody know how i can do this? i have attached a picture of the area on the circuit board where the original H-bridge is.
