This isn't a technical question as such but I just watched an episode of NCIS where an ex Marine medic was arrested for giving aid to some people injured in a car crash. Is this the case in the USA that without being a registered medic your not allowed by law to help others? I have just completed CPR and Defibrillation training, (we have just installed one in our village), Here in England you would be expected to do your best, if that resulted in a bad result even death no one could successfully sue you, in fact we were told that if we called 999 (equivalent to 111) we would be covered by the paramedic insurance as you would be working under their instruction. In Scotland and France you are required by Law to give assistance. You can be sued if you withhold aid to an injured person. Just curious.

Because the world's economy is highly tied to the USA's economy, we're currently very worried about the current smoldering economical crisis in USA. While some specialists say this crisis will be solved quickly, some others are already talking about recession with negative repercussions over the rest of the world ... The simple devaluation of the US dollar already has various negative effects on the EU economy. So what would happen to the whole world if the economy of USA was in recession ? I'd be curious to read your ideas, sentiments and opinions about this crisis. Is this a real crisis ? Is talking about recession exaggerated ?

During my vacation last week, the wife and I were out at a local restaurant that had a little "tourist trap shop" in it, and we stopped in to look around. Man was I surprised to see that Kiteman had been modeling for a stuffed doll they were selling. As soon as I saw it, I just knew I had to "get a picture of it" (it was nearly $50, so buying it was out of the question). I only had my phone with me, so no High def pictures, but I was able to capture him, one half at a time, in two photos I have attached. . . For those NOT familiar with Kiteman, I have linked to a Guide To Kiteman.

Myself, my wife and our two boys (will be 13 and 15) are planning a 3 week trip to the USA next August. We'll be staying with relatives in Lexington Park (Maryland) for a week, but would like to travel around a bit to (probably) 2 other areas to get a 'feel' for the country. We're more into the natural wonders than the Disney / Celebrity thing and would like a mix of city and country. Budget will be adequate but sensible and I'm quite happy with hiring cars and driving, although we don't want a road-trip type holiday. In short, where should we visit to get a 'Flavorsic of the U S of A'? Patches for my favourite suggestions.

Hello there all, As you might be aware, us here in the UK are having a fair amount of snow, which as you might also be aware, causes our country to slowly collapse... Since those of you who live in Canada and northern states of the USA are quite a bit more used to the snow, I wondered if the collective genius of Instructables could give us some tips on dealing with snow... Things which'd be interesting to know about: -Footwear -Driving -Clothing -Shovelling I think you get the picture. Cheers!

Last week, fi5e posted the USA - USB: American Flag USB Memorial here on Instructables. The project was a quick one, but the execution and goofiness in both the project and the video was excellent. The USA USB was clearly aiming for geek cred (despite using two USB ports instead of one) and pretty much nailed it. Now we learn that the whole thing was an exercise in being Internet famous. While the USA USB didn't have quite the impact it should've, here's a breakdown of what the goals were and 8 tips for getting more attention to your contribution to the Interwebs. You might have got in the news ages ago but for those in other countires:The company Huawei together with some of the subdivided companies got involved in the trade war between China and the US.In terms of consequenses for the users we certainly will see that there won't be any new devices getting on the local markets until this disaster got resolved. For existing users or those buying stocked items from before the ban took place the future might be not as good as previously thought.Firmware updates might not be allowed anymore, meaning if Huawei has a usable update for another region that could work it is a manual process that might render the device into a brick.Google already stopped Playstore support for many devices and there won't be any Google licinsed new devies anymore either if they get their will.Gives regional selling a whole new meaning and finally allows the full use of firmware checks and more to keep devices with addded but unlicensed Google services fully out.How did it come to the ban?The claim is that Huawei can already be used by the Chinese government to spy on users or might be to in the future. What gave it a feed for the press was the phones, the ban however is more aimed on backbone infrastructure.Collateral damage so to say.A bit like taking someone without any proof of wrongdoing and to lock him away.Oh, wait that is already a common thing...The funny thing is the same that Huawei now uses in a court claim against the US:Every hardware used for the internet in any way can have security issues.Otherwise we would not need firmware updates to fix security issues. What's the big deal then? Well, that is exactly the point Huawei is trying to make in court now.The problem behind the band and now issues worldwide is however realted to something we might not really consider at a first glance: The new 5G network for our mobile phones and other mobile devices.Once some "hackers" exposed and excessive list of security flaws in the 5G network two things became evident way too quickly:A) The same agencies that signed up on the security of the network got exposed for already impementing them into their surveillance systems.B) The securtiy flaws are so severe that anyone with access to the backbone infrastructure could basically check whatever happens on any part of the network, down to the user level and possible device control through remote services. The first is not a deal breaker as the agencies got exposed for abusing the rights of people since they exist. The second means it is no big deal to create patches for the flaws that can be implemented through firmware updates. And that is exactly the concerns of those spying on us (legally they claim). To implement the fixes you need to provide the information on the flaws and the exact way to fix them - which means you provide the information required to get acess like before even with the updates rolled out.Huawei provides everything from end user devices (phones and such), over routers and modems to the hardware required by your ISP or those in charge of the worldwide backbone infrastructure. With the ban it is now possible to get the 5G network happening with "Made in the USA" hardware only.Or, of course hardware from "trusted" companies outside the US.Brings nice and decent boost for the local harware manufactures while hiding the fact that the 5G network in the current form is more like a Swiss chesse - fully holes in terms of security. There are now claims however that say those agencies that signed up on the security "overlooked" the security flaws with the intention of having a future option against China in the trade war.Too bad the security flaws were not kep secret by those "hacker" paid to confirm the safety, instead they made an almost public event to present them.Otherwise the whole thing would have gone totally unnoticed by the world. And if such a move ever showed one thing than it is loyalty and only those countries with strong ties to the US jumped onto the ban while other either say they don't see concerns or simply wait until the concerns are proven to be real before replacing all the expensive gear with US products. If you followed the trade war a bit you realised it already thing with global consequences.Entire supply chains struggle or collapse already.Jobs are lost, economies suffer. And what was already a problem for countries outside Chinese and USA territories is now affecting the big guys as well. The world depends on fair trade. This fair bit is now devided by two countries deciding on what the rest of the world has to pay. What started with the refusal to take our rubbish was played out like a fight between two rival sibling below school age.Things are said and tossed around with no care about what happens as a result.Only problem is the toys are not stying in a kids room, the toys are things in other countries. The scratches are not a kids skin, they are in the hip pockets of everyone.Except for a few things both countries could do fine without each other that is what trading is for.But both countries want full control about everything with no care about how this affects other countries and people in the world.Prices are going up for everything as result. Will there be a winner, will there be an end, how might it end? There is only one winner and this winner is already clear, or make that two: Big companies and banks.Only those with a supply chain affected by the trade war will struggle to compensate and adjust to the changes. We just pay a higher price and have to accept it.Unless both sides give in and act like adults instead of toddlers the only possible end is once one side has fully control again. The most likely end would be a great devide between the US and China and a s result China getting an even stronger focus on being better than the rest of the world without involving it.Trillions of Dollars are wasted every year just because those two have to make copies of everything the other onew does wihtout ever really working together to more than half the costs. Not mention the money saved on no longer needing to spy on each other.Just take the moon, the USA needs to get back up there fast, China has fixed plans and India is not far behind either.Russia is stitting back and doing a bit here and there for everyone to be included without wasting too much money. If you check the territories in Antartica you will notice there is not that much Chinese presence. That bit of our world is appearntly only for peaceful exploration, despite the ever present military. Now what about the moon again ?China already managed several times to sent probes not only to the moon but also onto the moon - without any of it being detected by the US.Only once China presented images and videos it becae evident that their space program is much further ahead than previously thought.Pretending to only help the poor civilians aorund the south pole is a thing you might get away with. Not so much however when it comes to territories on the moon.If you can estabilsh a scientific base on the moon or estabilsh moning operations than how hard would it be to do the same with a military installation? And from up there even throwing rocks down to earth would do enough damage if the rocks are big enough...Nw, if you can't trsut a a space travelling country here on earth: How can you trust them to behave on the moon where really no one can go have a quick check on things? It is not like anyone would go for a quick drive to next outpost if it means risking your life every meter of the way.The consequences of this useless trade war are not only globally but start to affect the lifes everyone in the modern world. And did anyone ever consider that the atmospheric distortions are a problem for a telescope when watching the moon but not so much the other way around?Using the same digital telescope a pixel on the moon circles about 50 meters. Thanks to the long distance from out atmosphere to the moon.On the other hand the same pixel on earth, if watched from the moon, would only move around a few cm at the worst of times!

Hey there. After I have *hopefully* gone to uni and came out the other side with a degree I am considering moving out to the USA, probably to or at least to somewhere near San Diego. Nothing is set in stone for now so any suggestions on other places would also be helpful. But my main problem is that I have started to grow some plants back in Britain and don't particularly like the thought of just leaving them, so what are the laws on bringing plants with me? I know they are just plants but it's all the time I've put into them and to be honest, they're the first few plants I haven't killed. Any tips or stories of emigrating to the US would be great. As I said, this is just a thought, but I need to know more about how to go about moving there and what happens before I can truly decide. Thanks for your help :) Tom

Hello all, I'd like to purchase a welding machine in the USA and take it to the Philippines. My problem and hopefully solution is, USA use 2 legs of 110v for 220v appliances/machines. In the Philippines, voltage is 220v (single leg). So, If I have a single phase, 220v welder, can I cut the plug off, combine the two power legs and connect to the power in the Philippines? I hope I am able to articulate this question properly. Mig welders are not easily available over there. Thank you for anyone that can help

I know that the USA, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, UK, Australia, and New Zealand are all represented on Instructables. What other countries are represented? Are we in all seven continents? (give or take Antarctica, since only scientists and penguins live there). How many of the states of the USA are here? What's our membership by country? Is our membership only limited to earthbound beings, or do we have any astronauts or other in the ranks? Are all of our members even human? You have answers, post 'em. Just put something like "Texas, USA, here", or "Gusev Crater, Mars, here".That way we know where we're at After that, plot your location on the membership map.

Hello, This is a serious matter. Please read and act. Deadline is July 25. Please see this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYs815t4knQ Then please go to this website and read the document "Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft". http://www.regulations.gov/#!docketDetail;D=FAA-2014-0396 To summarize, the FAA has deemed that a sweeping, blanket regulation is necessary to take care of an issue created by a few dumb individuals making bad decisions. Because a very, very small few people who never touched a RC model aircraft before buy a DJI Phantom and decide to fly it over crowded city streets crashing into buildings and and almost hurting people, the larger hobby community is now paying the penalty of those dumb people. Why it matters to me: I just got into the hobby and I am not flying FPV yet. Actually I cannot fly FPV until I get my FCC Ham License. I am following the rules. I do NOT fly over people, cars, streets, buildings. I do not fly over private property other than my own. I DO fly within line of site of my aircraft, under 400 ft, in open fields or isolated locations. I do keep my aircraft in good working order. I am an AMA member, have insurance in case of RC accidents, have my AMA number inscribed on my model. So I do everything within regulations. Most RC modelers and AMA members do. But we all pay the price because some bonehead goes to amazon and buys a ready built aircraft and on the first flight takes it to a crowded school playground and crashes it on someone's car. I want to grow into this hobby and advance to FPV. I do it legally, responsibly, and safely. I use this hobby to freely express myself in a safe, harmless way. this hobby is enjoyable, challenging and has forced me to be innovative. I actually invented something that I want to share in instructables one day. Why it should matter to you: The government is slowly eroding away our rights. This regulation criminalizes a hobby that has been enjoyed by generations. Done responsibly, the hobby is safe, enjoyable, promotes innovation and gives people a way to express themselves. It is also an industry that many people rely on to make a living. The FAA as a government agency, is overstepping their authority and threatening our freedom to conduct ourselves are citizens in a safe manner. under this ruling, a RC model operator does something innovative (it does not have to be FPV related) shares it on instructables, and wins a prize from one of the many GREAT contest in intructables... Guess what, that instructables member is NOW a CRIMINAL. You are not allowed to get any compensation for RC Model hobby. under this ruling, you cannot fly FPV in an isolated forest capturing wonderful video and posting that video on the internet as an expression of your creativity. That my friends is Freedom of Expression being undermined. That video is now incriminating evidence that you broke the law. Even though that video harms no one. Under this ruling, an individual who invents a new RC airplane, mass produces it and sells it to others is a criminal because RC models is only for amateur hobby. Any monetary gain is criminal. So it is criminal for someone to innovate and try to make a living from that innovation. Do not let the government overstep their authority over us citizens. I ask that you respectfully tell the FAA to consider reversing their ruling. Ask them to go not take the easy route of making a over-generalized, sweeping, blanket regulation that impacts everyone in the hobby, past, present and future. instead, have them create regulation that target the the unsafe operators who make poor choices. thank you.
