Convert USB speaker to 3.5mm speaker

I have a USB speaker (image attached). These work great off the computer, but now I want to extend these to work with my ipod. I want it to host a 3.5mm input switch for connecting a normal ipod or mp3 player, at the same time still use it my computer when I want to. I tried following this, but it's not exactly what I want. Any ideas ?

Usb to audio out adapter?

Some stereos now have female usb sockets built into them to play music from a memory stick. Mine does not, which is why I am looking to make/buy a usb to 3.5mm audio out device that can read the files on my memory stick and output them as audio. I have done a concept picture using professional editing software 'Paint', but the sd card reader is not really that necessary. It could also be battery powered, the picture is just a basic idea of what I want. I have spare computers I could raid for parts if I need. Any help would be appreciated either building or buying such a device, but low costs for both are a big need.

3.3V to 3V - Power a GameBoy Color from USB

I want to power my GameBoy Color using the USB port. It needs 3V ( 2 AA batteries). I found a voltage regulator, that puts out 3V, but it does not seem to be available in Germany. But there are loads of 3.3V regulators. So I wonder, how I could use one of those. Is it possible to simply put a resistor in row (if yes, what value would be suitable?) or is it a bit more complicated?

Charging a small 3.7v battery from USB

Hey guys! I had this little flashlight that worked great for years. I would plug it into the USB port on the computer to charge it. When it broke I took it apart and it had a small battery connect directly to the 5v and GND of the USB cable. Is it OK to charge these small 3.7v batteries from just 5v without having to make a circuit? Is ok to just hook them up to 5v? http://www.xheli.com/hm-genius-cp-z-14.html?gclid=CJGkwffHuroCFUkV7AodY0kA8A Thanks!

Building a 5V or 12V powered in-line preamplifier

I want to build an in-line pre-amplifier with a 3.5mm in and out jack.  What I want, or at least think I want, is a simple booster that provides a small, but relatively even gain boost from an MP3 player into the main amplifier. Something along the lines of this: https://www.instructables.com/id/In-line-headphone-amplifier/ However, I would like to be able to power it off of 5V USB or off of the 12V coming into the cigar lighter. What I'm effectively trying to do is get enough gain on low volume spoken-word audio coming out of my mp3 player so that I don't have to crank the stereo up to max.  Does anyone have any good sources for instructions or advice for this sort of thing? Alternatively, someone can tell me if this is a fools errand to begin with, and that I aught to be taking a different approach altogether.

USB Spacebar?

So Im not sure this is the right place to post. But please bear with me and forgive me if its the wrong place. Thanks! (Oh, and sorry this message is so long. I wanted to be extra thorough. :))Hi,My names Emily and Im in a band. Were a three piece: weve got a keyboardist, guitar/vocals (me), and a drummer. On the 28th we have a Battle of the Bands where were playing 4 songs. One of them, a new one, has just recently been recorded/mixed. On the recording, where weve worked very hard on getting it to sound very good, theres a sort of sparkly background melody thats going on behind the normal parts that was added in the mix. Since then, weve grown very attached to these sparkly noises. However, everyone has their hands full (quite literally) and cannot play the sparkly noises at the same time. We had to find a way to automate the noises playing. So, today we had a practice and we decided to try to get these sparkly things going. We did find a very unorthodox, time consuming and temporary way after a lot of time wasting. Our way of getting it to work involved getting a separate laptop, plugging it into the PA (the speakers, that is, for those who are less learned in audio), attaching a USB keyboard to the laptop, make a loop in the best way we could of the sparkly noise, and leaving the screen open so that the keyboardist could with his toe hit the spacebar to make the sparkly melody play. This method had a couple disadvantages:1) We simply cannot continue to use this USB keyboard. We only have one USB keyboard in my house, and its used on a computer that has no PS/2 ports. So I had to put it back today, and we just need another solution.2) The keyboardist kept accidentally hitting other buttons/the mouse pad when we used the built in laptop spacebar, making the automation stop, pulling up some weird program, etc. This was why we switched to the USB keyboard. However, he still occasionally hit the wrong button, caused problems, etc. We could, in theory remove all the buttons except for the spacebar on the keyboard, but like I said, I have to return the keyboard and I dont want to ruin anything.3) A KEYBOARD IS BULKY, can break, and looks weird on stage. We have a complicated enough set up already and this simply adds to the issue. I have no problem using an extra laptop, but the keyboard has to go!The solution:This is where you come in! My hope was to try to rig up a modified staples easy button, a keyboards sustain pedal, a Rock Band (the game) pedal, etc. (any sort of pedal) and just make it so that you just plug in the device and you have an assignable button. (In this case, a spacebar.)Im on a tight budget.Any ideas?PS: If youd like to hear the effect/song Im talking about, please go to www.power-pirate.com (my bands website), go to Music, listen to the “In Mind (DEMO)” mix. Feel free to skip to the chorus, the part Im talking about starts at 1:04.PPS: When I posted this text into the message body box, all my apostrophes turned into weird special characters! So yes, I do know basic grammar, but my computer doesn't. Sorry about that :p

Troubleshooting usb powerbank 3 IR LED setup

I am an amateur with setting up circuits, but I am really interested and understand most electronics, I am just confused with the issue I am having. Background:  I am building a wireless google cardboard so that I can play PC games on my phone through the VR headset rather than crappy app games. Basically a wireless Oculus Rift, however I know it wont be anywhere near as good it's just a fun project. I have Infrared LEDs which I will use with freetrack and my modified webcam without IR filter to do my head tracking. Issue: I am trying to power 3x Infrared LEDs from a usb powerpack. Here is the one I am using http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/221468778309?var=520334132263&ssPageName;=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 The reason for using this as a power source is I can easily attach it to the headstraps on the google cardboard, it is just about the smallest power setup I can think of (better than using 3x AA batteries), it was cheap, and it outputs 5v which is perfect for powering 3x IR LEDs with a forward voltage of 1.6v and 60mA current. When I use this powerbank to power a single LED without a resistor and I look at it through my webcam, even with all the lights off and the webcam 5mm away from the LED you can barely see it light up. I tried the led on another powerbank I have here which is 10,000mAh so it is massive, and it was much brighter on the webcam. I then used my samsung TV remote and pressed a button while aiming at the webcam and it was EXTREMELY bright. Basically I want the LED to be as bright as my remote, or as much as the LED is capable of. Why would the powerbank show the LED so dull? I have confirmed it is outputting 5v, but when I try test the current with a 'usb charger doctor' between the charger and usb cable, or a multimeter between the wire and the LED it shows zero current. I should be able to just connect all LED in series with a small resistor and it should just work at full brightness, but the power bank cannot even power a single LED well enough to see properly on the webcam. It's becoming really frustrating, any idea what's happening? Best solution?

Ethernet to USB 3.0?

I was looking around this afternoon and found the wonderful 'PCI Express X16 to USB 3.0 adapter' which got me thinking, This could be an awesome way to add a better graphics card to a small computer e.g. a laptop or preferably a Raspberry Pi. Now i know that the Pi doesn't have any USB 3.0 ports but it does have Ethernet (which from past experience is quite a lot faster than USB 2.0) My question to you is this: Is it possible to get a USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter so that we can have USB 3.0 ports on a Raspberry Pi, and if so would the Pi be fast enough to run an external graphics card connected through a PCI Express to USB 3.0 adapter?

USB Charger Question...

Ok, I have a (4) AA battery holder which is wired in series so that I get 6V. I was then going to use (3) LM7805 regulators in parallel with heatsinks because a AA battery has approximately 2600mAH and each 7805 is rated @ 1A... I tried using (1) 7805 and it was so hot it burn my finger (BAD!) I'm making this device to power a Motorola V3 Razor. I guess my question is if this will work or not, the more I've been reading the USB standard is 5V @ 500mA... Just because the batteries are rated @ 2600mAH does that mean that they will put out that much power? Or will the phone only draw as much power as it needs? I can't afford to use this phone as a test! Please only respond if you know for sure - someone with an EE degree would be nice ;) Thanks in advance!

power single LEDs with USB?

I'm wanting to use some single 0603 LEDs here and there for a display.  I want each light to have its own power plug.  I'm figuring usb cables are a good way to do this (since I can power them by plugging into a hub, and retractable usb cables are cheap and handy).  If anybody has a better solution, I'm open to ideas. My question is whether there's some way to use a single resistor with the hub, instead of needing to add a resistor to each usb cable?  I'm assuming no, but figured it doesn't hurt to ask. Also, do I need different resistors depending on if it's usb, usb 2, or usb 3 hub/cables? And finally, since I'm getting my 0603 LEDs from some pre-wired Christmas light strands (mostly white, but a few colored), I don't have exact specs.  Is there a general standard that I should use for calculating which resistor to use?  3volts and 20mA sound good?
