I have broken Samsung plasma TV 50". I don't want to trough it out, but use the inside circuit as video out put device. Use the FFC cable that goes to TV screen and convert it to round wire with HDMI/ S-video/ VGA outlet. So I can see that outlet in my projector and see the all TV cable channels and take a benefit of 2D to 3D conversion facilities of TV. I think that could be possible but I have not any experience of that.

Hey guys I'm needing the expert opinions of everyone here in the tech section. See I just mounted this 0.5 watt solar panel outside on a L bracket today (not just a couple tiny ones I pulled out of solar lanterns (does anyone want to see what it looks like mounted outside? I didn't think to take pictures until I got inside). Anyways, I've mounted it, ran the wire along the ground and in through my window (drilled a small hole below the window). Connectivity checks out good and I get about 20-21v and the full sun hasn't even hit it yet. The only thing is here though, this solar panel is meant as a trickle charging panel for car batteries and whatnot, and as such I only seem to be getting about 10-15ma (seriously wtf). I just resoldered this charging board from a solar lantern I had laying around, however I have a couple questions. I'm not entirely sure if this little board will handle the current/voltage (however it should as it's fairly low current from the solar panel) I've rigged up the board mostly like it was inside the solar lantern except longer/stronger wires. I have a switch on the positive line of the batt+ to the board. I soldered some thicker wires to the SOL connections on the board. Now I've seen a few of these and some are rather simplistic control boards and some actually have a bit of circuitry to them. This one appears to have resistors to current limit the LED (would be good so I don't blow it), however after following the traces on the board the led get's it's positive from that black transistor thing with 5 legs on it (what is that a power regulator?) The idea behind all of this here is that I can maybe charge up my cell with it or usb devices for example, but to have that come from a battery pack of AA's (to work as a buffer sorta-speak like a capacitor bank). I am a little miffled as how to make this work right the way I want it to. I would assume that once I get the battery pack situated I can disconnect the LED and use that connection for a charging cable, but then it would only provide power when theres no sunlight out (when you turn it on it turns the led on if there is no current coming from the solar panel). How can I do this guys I'm sorry to ask such stupid questions as I know to some of you's it's probably fairly mediocre but I'm a bit dumb.

Long story short, i recently came in to a pile of clean rags that mechanics use to wipe oil from their hands and tools. I posted a link below to reference this item if anyone is not familiar. I dont have any use for these rags but the simple cloth squares have been surged and would do well as a handkerchief (Cloth tissue or napkin) is they weren't so rough. I want to open up the topic to everyone and see if anyone has ideas for alternative uses.. i made a small pouch from one already but other then that i haven't got any more ideas. Sorry, not trying to promote this store but these are the rags i have now. http://ragdepot.net/1000-red-shop-.html

I would love to see the instructable crowd take on this one! There is hardly anything about it on the internet.

I recently got a nice 200W solar panel including controller. Initial plan was to use it to power the outdoor freezer during the summer and later on to get a 12V compressor for it to avoid the inverter. Now my agent did an inspection and demands the solar panel has to go as it is too big and makes the backyard look untidy. To sum it up: Not allowed to mount it on the roof, in the garden, in the backyard or against a wall.... Only option at this stage would be to mount it on my roof rack but I don't have the time for long camping trips anymore :( Quite reluctant to just sell it as I thought someone here might still have an idea how to "hide" a big panel so the agent won't notice next time.

Cheap, cordless drills are amazing tools. Take one apart and attach a speed controller, you got a motor for a robot. Also, they have good high torque motors that can be used for all sorts of things. A $50 RC transmitter and a receiver make good remote uses, such as remote detonation. More useful tools are pneumatic cannons. I've used them from pressure testing to damage testing. WHat are your useful, unconventional tools?

I went to a salvage yard and got a used alternator . My kids dad is freaking out on me because, he says I got screwed. Apparently there should be a bolt that came with the used alternator that is used to hook up the positive wire on the alternator. Is this trie?

Hey there. After I have *hopefully* gone to uni and came out the other side with a degree I am considering moving out to the USA, probably to or at least to somewhere near San Diego. Nothing is set in stone for now so any suggestions on other places would also be helpful. But my main problem is that I have started to grow some plants back in Britain and don't particularly like the thought of just leaving them, so what are the laws on bringing plants with me? I know they are just plants but it's all the time I've put into them and to be honest, they're the first few plants I haven't killed. Any tips or stories of emigrating to the US would be great. As I said, this is just a thought, but I need to know more about how to go about moving there and what happens before I can truly decide. Thanks for your help :) Tom

Hey everyone. I'm rather young, but I'm trying to plan myself a future. I've though about being a programmer(I'm VERY good with both software and hardware, better than anyone else I know at my age) but I've decided wasting my entire life sitting in front of a monitor isn't for me. I want something more active, something that won't get be bored. I'm into parkour recently, and I've always loved martial arts and knives. I thought if it's possible for me to develop a military career. I live in Israel but I really hate this place(the law is very tight and sensitive about whatever can cause harm. Knives are illegal to carry, even tear gas and pepper spray draw police attention) so I want to move to the US. My English is very good, but I heard it's hard to get there. Other than that I though about developing a military career at the US army. I might change my mind, but I just wanna know how much of my plan is possible for now. Once I turn 18 I have to serve at the military for 3 years, then once I'm 21 I wanna move to the US. Once I get there I wanna sign up to the army immediately. I'm not even sure I need a house as the army provides all I need, so I can basically live there. I would like to serve at rather high-risk force(snipers, green berets, etc) for as long as I can and then still work for the army at a more passive job, such as engineering, or research and development. I know it might sound weird and stuff, but I really wanna be a soldier. Please tell me if my plan is possible, comment or correct it. Thanks, Mike.

I have 60 spiral notebooks and I'm not going to even be a student long enough to actually use them. I'm in my senior year at college, so I only have that plus 4 years of medical school. It's extremely difficult to recycle spirals, since you have to pull all the spirals out, and these notebooks are taking up way too much space in my life! Help!

I decided that I should do something with some of those old Gameboy Color games I had lying around, so I opened one. Inside, I found 4 chips, along with a 3v battery, a tilt sensor, and various capacitors and resistors. I was wondering what each of the chips do, as far as their use. And could I use them again for a different purpose? Here are the chips: *Small 8DIL with the Microchip logo, and 106 134A *Square chip with 8 pins on each side(32 in total), M8C3 -2 047U3E *Thin rectangular with 22 pins on both sides(44 in total), MX E012304-M MX23C1603-12A 1C9868A1 *28 pin rectangular, BSI BS62LV256SC-70 S2827V53114.N F0110 Taiwan(Obviously that means it was made in Taiwan) Just a quick check to see if anyone knew what any of these were. Thank you!

I had to clean up large sized decals that used a 3M adhesive.Instead of filtering the solvent fumes with my lungs I decided to listen to the guy in the hardware store that suggested to use a Caramel Wheel instead.Have to say I was very sceptical...Ever had this extra heavy duty 3M tape to get off again??No matter what you try it is a battle of will and endurance...To my surprise using the Caramel Wheel was like using a big eraser on paper. The things rubs over the surface, takes the goo off and leaves a totally clean and stick free surface. What otherwise took me at least a full hour was done in under 10 minutes - great...Once done with the hard work I examined the now well used up wheel.Does not really work as a proper eraser for a pencil as the rubber is much harder.Does not even scratch galvanised surfaces.Does not like it at all to be used on wet surfaces :(It is not just rubber in a fully solid form, more like flaky bits stuck together.First misuse I tried was polishing a piece of acrylic plastic.A cloth or similar always soaks up a lot of the polishing compound, which makes the process costly.Friction was a real issue at first because the wheel just had no grip at all.But on hindsight it helped to spread the compound fine and evenly. When it started to grab I noticed two things.a) The plastic warms up quickly.b) It polishes really good.Downside is that you need a low speed and very little pressure, too much of either and you risk stripping off the surface.Second misuse was on my knife. It is old, it is abused, it is loved tool I prefer, so it does not need to be razor sharp. The burr on the knife edge after sharpening should be removed.Usually I work my way up to 1000 grid, then use a leather strop. Not for this old knife though. In most cases the burr comes off with use.The Caramel Wheel had no problems removing the burr while leaving the edge sharp. And with a tiny bit of polishing paste applied it even managed to produce a extra sharp edge.Last misuse so far was to clean off old silicone from my bathroom tiles.Silicone does not like to stick to silicone!Means when you refurbish for example the silicone around your bathtub it never last long.Chemicals to remove the fine layer of silicone are harmful to say the least.I did not bother with the entire groove, just the outer parts where the new silicone needs to grab.First the wheel slips and slides off a lot but you see how it cleans the surface of the tiles. Then it starts to grab, indicating the tile is clean in this area.Won't do much in the grooves with the grouting though...What I really liked is that the wheel took off what you can't really see.The oily feeling when going over removed silicone was gone, just nice grippy tiles.

By now everyone that listens to music has probably heard (or heard of) autotune. It's been used for years to polish up pitchy vocals. Now it's more recognizable for being used on a totally different level. Autotune is the effect that T-Pain, Hellogoodbye (and by now, way to many others) use. At this point most people agree that it's way over used and just plain annoying. I have a poll to take. What song do you think actually uses it well? What's your vote for the Best Use of Autotune in a song?Mine is Woods, by Bon Iver.
