How do I convert a weed eater to edger?

I have a Poulan Pro (PP133) gas trimmer and I would like to convert it to an edger. I am also going to try and find a way to install or convert it so when I hit the head on the ground the string will advance instead of having to turn off the weed eater to install new string. Last time I called the Home Depot they sell an attachment that does edging for my weed eater but it cost over $79. It almost costs more then my weed eater. Thanks. AL.

Weed Whacker-Powered Bicycle

This is a bike I built a year ago. It uses a 30.5cc (about 1.5hp) weed whacker engine for propulsion. A version of the same thing was on Instructables, and that's what partially inspired me to make this. ;) The engine mounts are made out of wood, because I still have not learned to weld, but they hold up just fine. The engine is an ten-year-old Echo weed whacker. It has 10,000 max RPMs. The bike peg attached is 2" in diameter and gives about 25mph top speed. There is no clutch! The one that came with the engine was way too flimsy for a vehicle like this so I took it out. Saved a lot of space, too. For the throttle, I disconnected the back brake line and connected it to the engine. The front brakes are still intact, and you can turn the engine off to slow the vehicle as well. I added the extra heatsink to the engine to help keep it cooler, as it was never meant for this kind of exertion. It gets as hot as the engine, so I guess it conducts the heat away pretty effectively. There is a 10-LED bargraph to show the engine temperature. It uses an LM3914, an op-amp, and a thermistor. There is also a 555 to drive a buzzer when it gets too hot. The bike has head and taillights that are both driven from a joule thief. They are not very bright; they are more for being seen than to see. Here's a youtube video, taken almost a year ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bdySFqmK0Fw Some more photos and a little more information: http://forums.modretro.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t;=656 Comments/criticisms? :)

Why won't my two stroke run?

I have a two stroke weed eater engine (actually from a tiller but it's the exact same) and I am having trouble getting it to run. I have the carb screw tightened all the way so the carb is opened up as much as it can be but when I start it, it coughs like it wants to die then it dies. If I squeeze the throttle a little it will continue running or if I squeeze it all the way it will still run. It just won't run if I let it sit. Also, I am intending to use it to put on a bike and it has a clutch but it doesn't really work that well. It will engage without even squeezing the throttle. Any idea of where I can get a small geared clutch that will fit it? Thanks.

Friction Drive Weed Eater Bike?

I am wanting to make a weed eater bike and I am having trouble figuring out how to get the bike peg onto the clutch shaft. Can I just thread the clutch shaft with a tap and die set (which I don't have). Would it work if I put the clutch shaft against the wheel instead of putting a peg on it? Also, how hard is it to mount the engine with angle iron since I don't have a welder?

chain driven weed whacker bike

I am currently trying to complete a weed eater bike build, but have run into some trouble. a jackshaft is required, but i do not have enough money to purchase a kit or use a welder. built one out of some bolts, bearings, and the sprockets needed for reduction, but the engine shakes the chain off the primary drive sprocket or the primary driven sprocket when it is operating. i also need to figure out a way to mount the secondary driven sprocket to the wheel, would JB weld or something similar work? thanks in advance for any help and/or ideas

How to mount a wheel to a weed eater engine (direct drive) when building an r/c car?

I want to use a weed eater engine to make a fast r/c car. I have already stripped the engine down to it's basic components (removed all the plastic leaving only the bare engine) to make it easier to mount to a to the vehicle. I pulled an 8" pneumatic wheel off of a Razor electric scooter which i plan to somehow mount to the clutch system of the engine. The idea is to have a direct drive system to cut down on the complexity of a chain drive (I have the chain drive off of the electric scooter). To do this I'm thinking of bolting the wheel (which has 3 treads that previously mounted the sprocket to the wheel) directly to the bell of the clutch (the part that the clutch engages at a certain rpm and connects to the engine to the driveshaft of the weed eater). Is this a good idea or is the bell not strong enough to bolt a wheel to? For those of you who don't know what the bell is that I am referring to: http://i1.ytimg.com/vi/6FcFkbxhAXU/hqdefault.jpg Once I have the wheel mounted (it will have a single rear wheel), I will use the front end of a spare r/c car for the steering and the drive motor to pull the throttle cable on the engine. This will probably be mounted to a plywood base. Ideally, the best option would be to have servos hooked up to an Arduino controller to control the steering and throttle, but a WiFi Arduino ($80) (could I substitute it for a Raspberry Pi?) + 2 servos ($30) is outside of my price range. What do you guys think of my design? Any suggestions?

If I make a motorized bike out of a weede eater motor in California, can I ride it in public without a permit ?

Hello, I am wondering if It is possible for me to motorize a bike in the state of california without having to register it at the DMV as a moped. I need a good way to get to and from my school, and a car is too expensive to run. Would I have any trouble legally if I did this?

What is the best way to cut gerass on a very steep sloped hill?

My back yard is made up mostly out of an increadibly steep hill. For years I have used a non-propelled push mower for the top and mowed down until the mower has almost reached tipping point (just above the tree over the rock). From there I have to use a weed eater to cut the rest of the yard until its flat. this is a very difficult and time comesuming process that will drain anyone physicly and mentally. How can I fix this? If I need new lawn equipment, I am willing to buy new equipment to end this nightmare. If i need to change my mowing technique i will try anything that anyone has to offer.

this isn't a question its a statement on a question i asked earlier

Earlier i asked about putting a turbo on a two stroke weedeater motor. i tried it and IT WORKED. it made the rpms triple! it worked to a point so if its too much then it will actually not work and slow down the motor. and it sounds cool

DIY Circular knitting needles

I teach a knitting class at a federal penitentiary; while I've been able to get a lot of yarn donated, we still have very few needles (the only ones the inmates can use are wooden circular needles). I've been trying to make some myself from dowels and weed eater cord, but they look like c$?&, and the cord keeps coming out. If anyone has any ideas on how to make some, I would really appreciate it!

very similar to 33cc Gas GS Moon Scooter.

Verified it has spark. Compression. It has no pull cord, so I used a high speed drill to turn it over, while spraying carb spray directly in to it. Also the on/off or kill switch is broken. I have taken apart and cleaned out the carb.  I've dried different variations of grounding the kill switch. At this point, I'm stumped. Also, I have a few scrap 33cc weed eaters laying around for parts. Need some help Very appreciated Brian

Need a Gas Tank

Hey guys, this is my first time on the forum section of the instructables! Not a bad place to be, really. So here's the thing. I have this old scooter that I've had for as long as I can remember. It was the very first thing I rode that was powered by a motor and my father bought it for me so I could get ready for my first motorcycle (Which was sadly stolen about a year ago :/). Last year, my dad went back to our hometown to visit family and he brought it back with him, but there was one problem. We have no gas tank for it. I have NO idea where it could have gone or why it wasn't brought back. Oh well though. I have this scooter, the same as Wesley666 does. I'm having trouble finding the gas tank on my own. Notice that there is a gas tank that I took from a weed eater just to try it out. But I'm not sure it would work out very well. I mean, look at the size comparison between the two? I also want to keep original parts on this nostalgic machine. Sorry if the pictures are oriented weird, but these are taken with my phone. You can see from the thread posted above there is a picture that shows a blurry close up to the gas tank and I can't really tell what it says. "Something EBR Motor". Long story short I need to get that gas tank, maybe even the gas line that comes with it, in order to get this thing working again. Does anyone know of the brand name of the scooter so I could get the original parts I need?
