I was wondering if pulleys counted as wheels?

I'm a wheelchair user and I would like to change the side wheels and rims with a bike geared wheel and push handles. I need someone, brighter than me, to work out how to combine the crankshaft and back wheel into one unit? If this could be done, I would extend the pedal shaft to become handles which I could push with my arms. Don't know if that is clear.. I've tried to add an image here, but Instuctables just not uploading anything!!! If you have any idea about the wheel idea, I would be grateful to hear? Many thanks Richard

This Idea is based on Magnetic Repulsion and Kinetic force. According to diagram there will be a Wheel and a magnet(1) will be attached with this wheel. There will be a balance system(seesaw system) and two magnets(2no.magnet and 3no. magnet) will be attached with this balance system . when 1 magnet will repel 2 no.magnet then the 2 no.magnet will move upward and due to this movement the 3 no. magnet will come down and will work to repel 1 no. magnet and wheel will start to rotate. when 1 no. magnet will again repel 2 no.magnet after a rotation then the 3 no. magnet will again work to repel the 1 no.magnet. In this way the wheel will rotate again and again.The magnetic strength of 1 no. magnet will be high than 2 no. and magnetic strength of 3 no. magnet will be high than 1 no. magnet. I want to develop this technology.

The quest for the most ridiculous personal transportation continues with this bizarre merging of a rollerblade, a bicycle, and a penny farthing. If you want one you'll have to get it shipped from Singapore for $580 so if you really want to try it out I'd guess that you could make it for less than $50 worth of spare parts. Anyone interested? Is there a such thing as a K'nex steering wheel for the xbox360? As a example is where you put in your control in the Knex steering wheel mechanism and there have pedals and a steering wheel? Since I don't wanna buy the 100 dollar OFFICIAL steering wheel.

Hi ! I need help to make my steering wheel Serioux SRXW-02V LightRacer to have 900 or 780 degrees... My steering wheel have only 180 degrees , 90 degrees in right , 90 degrees in left . Where i can find the ''lock'' of wheel ? (inside the wheel or inside the stand of wheel?) What can I do to modifi my wheel to have 780 or 900 degrees, to make a rotation as a normal car... I've looked up sidecars on google and found lots of information for sidecars on vehicles that have front steering only in which case the sidecar wheel tends to be positioned parallel to somewhere between the midpoint and the rear of the vehicle, however if the vehicle has both front and rear steering would the sidecar wheel be best positioned parallel to the exact midpoint or not?

Our "contractor" wheel barrow with inflatable tires commonly picks-up nails and goes flat. The semi hard sponge rubber replacement seems expensive and I have been wondering what might be homebuilt design. Latex caulk is cheap but don't think it would dry if trapped in a tire. Super ball material or similar would seem to be valuable.

We camp every year for two weeks beside a stream. There is no electricity available on our campsite, but we do have a number of things that we'd like to recharge over the two week period. There is a small (2 ft.) dammed waterfall/ rapids in the stream close to where we camp. Does anyone know how I could make a water wheel electricity generator? Information on all aspects (how to build a water wheel; what type and where to get a generator; storage or regulator advice) would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hello, I'm new here. So, lately, I've been thinking about making a steering wheel for my PC, with a simple up-and-down gear box and 2 pedals for acceleration and brake. Steering Wheel. I'm using a polystyrene sheet, to cut out a wheel from it, and in the center, there's space for installing a phone holder. I'm planning to use my phone's gyroscope and simulate it to the PC. Pedals. I've figured by using foams underneath, we can place a nail and a foil separated and when we press the pedal, the foil touches the nail and circuit gets completed. I've a general idea, but I'm stuck on how to give that signal to PC as to simulate as a button (say for acceleration and brakes.) Gearbox. For the gearbox, I figured it might be easier to make an up-down box (as in pulling the level shifts the gear up and vice-versa.) Here too, The part where I'm stuck is giving the signal to the PC. Anyone who can help me, please?

I heard about them, but I thought they were a joke.Then I ran across a link.They actually made gasoline-powered pogo-sticks that even grandpa can ride!It's a single-cylinder engine, with the bouncing foot being connected directly to the piston, called the Hop Rod. There are a bunch of adverts and slightly more modern test-drives in a short video on the site.They're... odd.Still, I wondered. Maybe the Hop Rod provided the inspiration for other wheel-less powered transports?Do you remember those Russian boots? 4 metre strides and speeds of 40kph were promised, but that was 8 years ago. According to The New York Times they fell foul of Soviet secrecy and then Russian financial mis-management.They're still around, waiting for some entrepreneur to hop on the band-wagon...

Say hello to Mr.T. He is old, simple, and there is really nothing special about him. However, Mr.T is a sneaky little feller. He likes putting on clever disguises like iron sights and stocks and even removable magazines to make people think that he is special. But he isn't. He's been around for years now, and for some reason, can't accept that his time is done. As a community, we are going to get rid of Mr.T. I hope you found that funny, but more importantly, I hope that you took it seriously. No, I am not talking about the guy who played Clubber Lang in the third rocky. I am talking about the K'nex gun that has been built and posted thousands of times, and makes the rest of the Instructables community hate K'nex gun builders. At this point, pretty much any search done on this site will result in at least one K'nex gun. What is worse? They are all the same. The "T" format is the most simple, most redundant approach to building a K'nex aside from the now heavily discriminated block trigger guns. They involve three things: 1. A vertical magazine 2. A firing ram 3. A trigger Any gun that requires only these three components to operate is, in my opinion, pointless. Despite cosmetic features such as stocks and iron sights, all "T" format guns are exactly the same. Yes, they do work, and some of them even work very well, but at this point, improvement will only occur with change, not with repetition. Compared to a few years ago, this K'nex community is dwindling on the edge of a cliff. Many people have lost interest because nothing new was being made, so they just quit. I do not support this decision, but I cannot blame them either. Like many of the other "veterans" on this site, I have been on and off, but have never officially quit. Sometimes one just needs to think. Hopefully by now, I have made it clear: not another Mr.T should be posted ever again. They are great guns for those learning the ropes. That is about it. There are so many other options out there. Horizontal magazines, pump systems, lever systems, bolt systems, and so many more. Make up your own system! Combine different systems! There are millions, maybe billions of different ways to put a thousand K'nex together, so why limit yourself. You are all builders, which means that you see things in your head before you make it. But sometimes these ideas come to us in inopportune times, so what do you do? Write it down. Even if your drawing skills are as pathetic as mine, just scribble it out so you can make sense of it, and then refine it later with a ruler. Then get to work on it. So, here are the steps you can take to advance this community: 1. Stop posting Mr.T!!! He can be a good teacher, but that is about all. 2. Be different! My goal when I entered this community was to make guns that nobody has ever made. No two of my guns are similar, nor are my guns like any others out there. You have millions of options. Make use of them! 3. If you have an idea, write it down! Even if it seems absurd, I guarantee that it, even if it only be small parts of it, will improve your building skill. I really hope this has made you want to make something different. Not much more I can say. Just go do it. Is it possible to make swivel castor wheels from skateboard, rollerblade, rollerskate, or other type wheels? I know there are swivel plates by themselves, but would this be used? If so, how, if at all, would the above types of wheels be attached? Or just use some type of swivel bearings? Wood? Something thru the middle of the wheels? Fixed castor wheels attached to swivel plate? Any ideas, other poss optons, to be able to make? Thanks

Has someone made a strap-on set of wheels for the old kind of wheel-less suitcases? I figure a pair in the front of the suitcase and a pair in the back would make up this arrangement. Maybe tight, strong bungee cords could be used to hold on the wheels and also encircle the suitcase. Also, a cord with a loop could be attached to the front bungee cord so that the suitcase could be pulled along. Some sort of housing would have to be fashioned to hold the pair of wheels for the front set and another housing for the rear of the suitcase. Does anything like this exist? What's it called and where's it found?

When I was much younger, I re-spoked two bicycle wheels off-center and put them on a bicycle for a parade. I don't recall how I did this except it wa s an article in pop. mech. or pop. science magazine, or similar mag. I do remember that I used 24" wheels on a 26" frame and that they must have been less than 2" off-center to fit the frame. It was fairly easy to ride at slow speeds, but terribly hard to go fast, as it would tend to throw you off. It was a lot of fun, though. I hope someone can tell me how to build one of these again. Is it possible to make or source some kind of freewheel and sprocket device for a wheel of around 80 - 100mm diameter? i've googled a bit and found micro folding bikes with similar sized wheels but i haven't found replacement parts listed for them, the closest thing i have found is parts for rockboard scooters but rear wheel assemblies cost $80 each which seems a bit steep...

I live in a semi-rural area. We are hours from a decent motorway, but hip-deep in caravan parks. Given the UK law that limits trailers to 50mph, I am generally disapproving of anything towed. However, this trailer tent designed by Axel Enthoven is a thing of beauty and luxury. Every day on my way to and from school I have to walk a long way to the bus stop, and i often come too late because i miss the bus. the way is asphalt-only, but there are some small stones on the sidewalk too. I was wondering if I could build a jig attachable to any shoe that had 3 or more wheels on it, so I could skate to the bus stop and not be late. The wheel jig should be able to hold quite some weight because of my backpack and should be able to fit inside it for me to take it to school. I cant take a skateboard or scooter because I don't have any and it's not allowed to chain it to the bus stop and I don't even have a lock or a bike. I have access to the local skateboard shop as well as the hardware store and a Tailor and carpenter too (if leather or string or even wood is needed), and also to the local supermarket. Thanks!!

I have built several adult soapbox derby/ Gravity cars. I'm working on a new build that may require a smaller front tire, such as a 16inch tire. My plan is to run 2 26inch rear wheels and 1 16 inch front wheel, with a total car weight of 225lbs. Since there is no gearing, just gravity, and just considering size, will smaller front wheel effect my speed? Thank you

I have to make a water wheel that lights up a 6volt bulb and it must have a switch so that when the water is pouring and the light turns on i can turn it of while it spins if i want. I don't know what materials i need or how to use them...HELP!

I need to source delrin v-groove wheels complete with bearings for a project I am working on. Can anyone recommend a manufacturer or supplier that can supply these? I can source in US but delivery to Northern Ireland is very expensive so a UK or European source would be ideal. Thank for all your suggestions.

So I have this great idea, at least I think its great essentially you buy a very cheap front wheel drive car, take off the rear wheels and put two giant casters on it. I think it would be a blast, the amount of G forces you could pull with a 1 cylinder engine would be insane. What are your opinions, tips, ideas? Have you heard of this before?

I posted this idea on the makezine forums recently and got 1 answer but it seems I did not explain what I meant too well so I thought I would try here to see what you think. My theory is as follows: In the case of a normal wheel each bucket/segment when full of water has the turning power equal to weight of water x length of horizontal line such as the yellow one in the diagram. That is it's weight exerts a force to turn the wheel according to it's horizontal distance from the centre of the wheel. If instead of the normal wheel the 3 blue circles represent 3 sprockets.There would be a whole series of buckets attached to the red lines ( which represent a chain ).Water would pour into the buckets as shown, so it would simply propel the buckets vertically down.The turning power of each one of these would be equal to to weight of water x radius of large wheel. So each would have the turning power of the best one such as the line from H to the center of the wheel. As far as I can see this would mean a large increase in torque over conventional which I hope would easily offset the losses due to the chain drive. What do you think?

Traveling with bikes can made easier with couplings and taking it apart, but the wheel has always been a solid item that has to be worked around. This might not be true in the future with this new folding wheel that is made up of six segments.This design by Duncan Fitzsimmons is being looked at by major manufacturers, or so he says, but no matter what it will take a while to come to market and likely cost more than all of my bikes combined. I can only hope that these eventually do some out and the economy of scale makes them only mildly ridiculous in price. link

I've been working on a new ball machine for a few years and finally decided to tear it down and start anew; one thing I did save was this wheel. It uses chain for a rim to make a "perfectly" circular wheel. With grey rods on every rim connector it is quite heavy, in my ball machine I used a delay to send 3 balls onto it at once to make it spin nicely. If you want you could only use once white connector and 8 grey rods to make a lighter frame that would spin well with only one ball on it. Peace! ~IaC

Just wondering if there is an article on building a custom mount for your spare tire, ours (under the truck) broke and we normally just lay it down in the back, but that can make storing other stuff harder, I'd like a article on how to make a custom mount. Thanks :)
