Here is a forum to start off the group, and I really don't care if any outsiders choose to look at the antics around. I though we could start off with something a little weird, because -- well, I can. Here we can trade off strange questions of the universe and listen (Or ignore) the opinions/answers/lies others tell you. Well, to start us off, What do you think a star tastes like? The question has been bothering me all morning. . .

For a little while now, I have been questioning one thing: "Why are there so many new Pro Members that never even do anything on Instructables?" When you go on the home page, at the right side directly above the contests, you will see that the website shows new Pro Members. The odd bit about it is that when you click on some of their profiles, you will see that most of them haven't done anything on Instructables at all. Wouldn't one of them at least have made a comment, or asked a question? I'm now wondering if the owners of Instructables are making Instructables Pro Members on purpose, trying to convince the others that if so many people already went Pro, maybe they should too. If this is true, they wouldn't lose money, because if they are making the "Fake Members", their money goes right back to them. Leave a comment on what you think, or if you have an answer, please tell us all.

I was making a bamboo hunting spear (Which I will make an instructable on soon), and when I found the heart of the stick, it was gross! The inside was covered in this snot-like substance that smelled horrendous, and the sponge type thing that is usually inside bamboo was practically gone! Does anyone know what could have caused this?

I told my friend i played pokemon, and all of a sudden he said, "pokemon, is stupid. you put animals in balls and throw them at other animals in balls. they make a drawing, that looks like a real animal, and spell its name backwards and call it a pokeman." whats so bad about that?!

Something a little wierd happened when I took a peep at the contest, some entries had decided to replicate themselves.... I don't know if this is simply an aesthetic problem or a serious issue but it seemed best to be on the safe side... It could also have something to do with some of the new stuff... The disconcerting thing is that the iron man one's aren't beside eachother...

I ran virus scan and noticed a bunch of wierd files, mostly porn and XXX files. But when I went to the directory that they were supposedly listed under, they weren't there. I went into TOOLS and then FILE OPTIONS and selected VIEW HIDDEN FILES. But they still weren't there. Why can't I see the files so that I can manually delete them? I think there is a bunch of hidden stuff there that is slowing down my computer.

Hello! Nerfrock' here! Just recently I decided to fire up my good old Nerf Hailfire again-but this time, something was different. When I pulled the acceleration trigger, the motor started up fine, but when it got up to full speed, it started making this wierd vibrating sound as if it were a motorcycle being pedaled up and down. Even with all my Nerf modding experience, I am baffled... Does any other nerfer (or anyone in general) know what it is? Do I just need to change the batteries, or is it something else (I hope not) . Thanks! -Nerfrock'

First of all, it's not what it sounds like! Well, maybe it is. In my geology class today, we were told that there was once a cow that had fallen into an exposed part of the San Andreas fault, then the fault closed up.....leaving only the tail above ground. We were challenged to find this picture, and i've gone 40+ pages into a google search, i've looked through the list of wierd topics on wikipedia (and had a damn good laugh), but i've not found what i was looking for. Can anyone help? Can any of you either post the picture here, or post a link to a site where i can find it?

I am looking to create an array of LED's attached to switches. There will be 14 LED's in total. 3 green LED's attached to a single 2-way switch, 8 red LED's attached in pairs to 4 3-way switches, and 3 white LED's attached to 3 more 2-way switches (3 seperate 1 switch:1 LED set ups. Nothing wierd or fancy there). I'd like it all to run off a single power source, light powered would be best, but if that turns out to be too complicated I'll settle for battery powered. My questions are: What kind of power source will I need to use? How is the best way to wire it? and What sort of equipment will I need (resistors, capacitors, etc)?

Well, if you have seen the altoids solar battery charger, and the altoids 9v usb charger, then you must have thought, "why not put em together???". Now, Im not electronics buff, but I'd be willing to bet that since the 9v charger instructable is so small, that it could be incorperated with the solar panel kit. Now, my question is, would i have to do anything ridiculous to convert the solar charger (which is ment to charge 2 AA batterys) into a 9v usb charger w/solar panel while still being inside an altoids tin. PS: I still don't know why I have this wierd fascination with altoids tin DIYs, but I do...

Today i was given a old phone. but its certainly a different phone, it has a cord, but the end on the cord is the same as one from a internet cord, but when i plug it in to a computer it has no effect. i think it might be a 'bag phone', all i know is its made by motorola. instead of trying to figure it out, i figured i would strip it down for parts, but other than the speakers, microphone, leds and a magnetic reed switch there isnt much. one thing that really interests me is the lcd screen it has, there arent very many pins connecting it to the board, it has a microship embedded of the back of the lcd board, covered in that wierd glue. does anyone know how i can reuse the lcd? would i need an arduino for it?

I have one transistor driving the blue leds and one driving the red leds. the red leds are being powered by a 9v supply and the blue is 15v( dont remember the MA but they both provide plenty. They are wall warts. When i plug in the 9v power supply it makes a high pitch buzzing noise.... If anyone has any pinters i would appreciate it. Thinking of adding more transistors.... I know how to make a car that has two mini block trigger gun on the top that shoot off while driving on its own. With the use of a non strechy string. Lets say you have about 16 in. of string. And you put the two guns in the back of your car.You can wrap one end of the string to the block trigger gun's trigger(that sounds wierd). and the other end of the string to the back rod that has the back wheels. When it starts to go the string will begin to wrap around the back rod until all the string has been used. The string begins to get tight. For the car to go any further its gotta pull down on that string, so it pulls it down and the guns fire. DISAVANTAGES: 1. Right after it fires the car cant travel any further. 2. Probobly a pain in the butt to reset. 3. Not sure if it fires that far. 4. I havnt even finished it yet, so im not sure if it even works. ADVANTAGES: 1. There hasnt been any thing like this posted before. 2. It can have up to like a lot of guns. Thank you for reading this forum. I hope you understand. I dont have any pics for 2 reasons: 1. Im on vacation. 2. Its not finished yet. If I have any mispellings please tell me and I will fix them.

Hi everyone, I am just a marine engineering student and I always used to visit this page before and I really learned a lot from this page I really love it. It sound wierd but I got 999 "what if's" In my mind and one of them is what if I could make my own device that could paint my sneakers In any design I want? So now I'm planning to make a shoe printer out of my old desktop printer, Is it possible? The motors and some parts might be helpful and those are needed some time and a little bit of coding. And I want it to work like a cnc plotter. But the hardest part for me is the "Inking part" A.) "How does a printer manipulate colors?" . Let's say I want to print an apple with a white background on my shoe , how does a printer selects/mix a color for each coordination they paint? ( base, outline, background and etc. ) I mean, how do they do that? what device does this part for the printer? So that I could add it on the list. B.) "What process should I use? " . Is it heating? Should I use lazer? Or should I use a tiny nozzle? Or a multiple of nozzles? Or is it piezo electric pulses? What piece should it be? that would perfectly Suitable for printing on a sneakers? (Canvas) Additional question : (if ever) what type of ink should I use ? Any answer or suggestions would be so much appreciated

Well, a few people knew about this, and I finally got around to putting up some pics. It has a new-ish handle that is really simple yet comfy, a new-ish handgrip that is simple yet comfy, a new-ish barrel that is out of the norm, a removable red rod mag, nine connectors of friction and a full black rod of ram pullback, a true trigger(duh), and a swinging bipod that attatches to the barrel when not in use. That's it for the pros. Now, it's rather bulky, it has so-so power(though I never really went for that), the barrel is sorta flimsy(workin on that), the trigger tends to not take too much pressure(workin on that), and the stock is wierd lookin. That's it for the cons. Yes, yes, yes, yes I know my camera is crappy....it's too bright in all lighting.... Ironically, I finished this two days before school starts, so I don't know when I'd be able to post it, if I intended to...but say your thoughts on it anyway.... Oh, and by the way, if you fell like leaving a random or off topic comment, I'm no Nazi *cough*TheDunkis*cough*.... I got to type this all over again, because it would seem that the first time, the pictures wouldn't upload.... If you need more pics of it, let meh know! Also, just to let you guys know, I had two options: 1- let this thing have more jams than a Smuckers factory, or 2- make it so it cant jam, but you have to lightly tap the pusher for it to shoot. I went with the latter, so it adds like one second to the firing rate....

3 batteries, 2 motors, controle module. The module has 10 wires, the black and yellow wires go to the motor with the black and yellow, got that. Two matching wires go to the other motor, got that. The large wire is 4 wires wrapped together and their ends match up to wires coming from the handle bars, 2 prong, 3 prong, so forth, got that , those wires I got snapped together. 1 black wire is left and 1 red. Okay positive and negative, got that. This is where I don't got it. I believe before, the positive went to the positive of the first battery and the negative went to the negative of the last battery. For reasons I don't understand the negative of the first battery went to the positive of the middle battery and the negative of the middle went to the positive of the last battery along with a 30 amp fuse. The on/off switch has 3 prongs( what is the extra prong for?) The charging port has 3 prongs, why? There was a wire with a wierd thing on it, I want to call it a resistor, what's this and do I need it? How do I tie it all together, 1 negative wire, 1 positive wire coming off the control module to the 3 prong on/off switch, 3 prong charging port, 3 batteries (36volt) and a fusable link in there somewhere. All these parts are what the scooter originally had, "friend" got as far as just unhooking everything. HELP, I don't want anything to blow up.

On my way to work today I came off my bike at somewhere around 20-25mph, on a long sweeping corner I was turning with a steady lean and just lost all grip, both tyres slid, my left elbow hit the ground, shredded most of the skin on it and I actually brunt a hole in the jumper I was wearing with friction, I flipped over and smashed my wrist in to the ground so hard that that doctor wasn't sure if it was a sprain or break due to swelling, at some point my left hip hit the tarmac and they Xrayed that aswell in case I had chipped it, there's a nice swelling forming there... I also scuppered both my knees, the bad one is now just popping out from under me at any oppurtunity while the other can barely be moved. I've also just noticed that theres a bit of wood or stick stuff in my arm. This means that I can't go cycling for two weeks by docs. rules, can't play guitar hero, can't lift anything, might not even be able to drive, which would suck nuts as I just started formal lessons, finally afford them and I'm put outta work for a week and can't use my time to do the stuff I want/need to do. On the upside I can get to the hardware store and get my pulse jet parts and be doing something with my time, but I wont be able to build both because I've to save extra wages for next month as I wont get my days off back. The bike stood up to the crash much better than me, scraped paint on handlebar bell and I somehow knocked the reflectors of one of the pedals, I'm guessing thats the big gash on my shin explained... It's wierd I've been hit by trucks and got up straightened the handlebars, cycled off happy enough, I had the same type of crash except the front wheel fell down a curb I clipped a car and hit a wall with enough force to damage it and was fine apart from minor bruises, this simple crash screwed me completely, I fell perfectly and rolled well after flipping and smashing my right wrist, the bike somehow got a good distance away from the crash, as did I... Also three instructables I was planning will have to wait for at least a week, depending on what tools I can manage by then, it's a shame I just made three great projects and I have to wait until I'm better to finish them and publish... it also took me about 25minutes to write this...

What is wrong with this code? I have it open this program: @echo off mode 18,4 title Actions :1 cls echo (B) (Y) echo (A) (X) echo. set /p a= echo %a%> link.txt goto 1 And this prgram is supposed to read the input. Basically, the first one sends a message to a TXT file. Then this program picks up the message from the TXT file and turns it into a variable. @echo off title Whack-a-Mole set a=10 set mole=0 set time=0 set timeend=0 :Start cls set /a a=%a%-1 echo This game uses the "Actions" gamepad unit. echo. echo. echo Hit the most moles to win! echo. echo Game starts in %a% seconds. ping localhost -n 2 > nul if %a% equ 0 goto Game goto Start :Game if exist Actions.bat start Actions.bat cls echo Press "A" on the gamepad unit to swing your bat. Question by TheBatchies | last reply
Hey guys, I wanted to post a quick forum topic about useful batch commands that are seldom used or not well-known, or maybe just useful tidbits. Note: These do not have to be used, they are just extremely helpful and are just "extra," meaning you could probably find easier-to-understand but not as useful commands. 1. The CHOICE command The reason this command is so cool is that unlike other Y/N menus, when you enter the desired number, you don't have to hit enter, it goes straight to the next screen. You can also program it to execute a command after a set amount of time. Here's how to write it out: choice /c:12345 /t:5,10 if errorlevel 5 goto ha if errorlevel 4 goto joke if errorlevel 3 goto tired if errorlevel 2 goto fried if errorlevel 1 goto chiken To time it, you type /t and then a colon. You write the choice that you want to be timed, e.g. 5, and the amount of time in seconds you want it to wait for seperated by a comma. 2. The Random Variable The reason I deceided to put this up is because it is one of the only if not the only variable that is already programmed into the system. By using it correctly, you can generate a number between 1 and 32767. WHAT?! Of course, you can narrow it down, to, say about 1 and 100. :dim set rnd=%random% if %rnd% GEQ 101 goto dim if %rnd% LEQ 0 goto dim set number=%rnd% So as you can see, %random% is a set variable and generates a random number for you. Please keep in mind that this can take one second, or one eternity (literally) since it doesn't narrow down the choices after finding that a number doesn;t work. So, you may keep on generating 101 forever and never get to 100! 3. The ^| Command. Ever get frustrated because you are making an animation with, for example, stick figures and are getting driven nuts because the minute it gets to a certain part, it exits on you? The reason is probably because you used the | symbol, which is actually knd of like a command by itself. So, if you're doing something like this: echo echo /| echo / The reason it is not working is because you didin't use a ^ before the |. Here's what it should be: echo echo /^| echo / Yes, it looks wierd in the editing stages, but looks much better in the real thing. Just remember, you will have to remember that the ^ will be invisible, so make sure everything else in front of it is like this: echo [ echo /^| [ echo / [ So that the [ or whatever it is is one space ahead from the others. 4. The %TIME:~0,5% Command. What time is it? Oh, it's 3:16:52.29! Ever been frustrated with the TIME command? For one, who ( and when I mean who, I mean the average batcher who doesn't use the TIME command to synchronize seven different computers around the house which I could never hope to do) needs to be that exact? When making a batch alarm clock, for example, the user wouldn't really want to do all of that, would they? So, for those of you who would want to make such a clock, here's an example: @echo off title Alarm Clock :start cls color f0 echo. echo Use 24 hour clock echo. set /p a=Set Alarm: cls echo. echo Alarm set to %a%. :alarm if %time:~0,5% EQU %a% goto alarmset goto alarm :alarmset color fc echo echo echo cls echo. echo It's %time:~0,5%! echo. echo Press 1 to acknowledge. choice /n /c:12 /t:2,1 if errorlevel 2 goto alarmset if errorlevel 1 goto sleep goto alarmset :sleep goto start So there's one example. %TIME:~0,5% sets the time from 3:15:00.00 to just 15:15. This doesn't work just with the TIME command, you can do this with any variable. If I had a variable %x% and it said "crayon" and wanted it to say "cray," I would type in %x:~0,-2%. If I wanted to make %x% say "on," I would type in %x:~-4,0%. 5. The AT Command The AT command is exactly what it appears to be. You tell it AT (time) /every:[day(s) of the week] (command to be executed). So, it I wanted an alarm to go off whenever the Simpsons are on, I'd type AT 19:30 /every:sumtwthfs echo ALARM!!! Now, I know that the Simpsons are on at a different time on Sundays, but that's not important. Please not that you HAVE to specify what day you want it to go off on (it can be dd/mm/yyyy to be really specific). Default is set to "tomorrow." This was probably too confusing. For one, I talk too much. Thank you for even getting this far, anyways. Thanks a bunch!
