absolute zero

I just had a thought, at absolute zero does everything turn into a solid? since nothing's moving would it be a solid? Would gases such as helium solidify at low pressures? Etc.

Notes on specific Laws - the Zeroth Law

This is where the whole Law thing started:There is a fairly regular kind of thread that appears here.It starts should I make an Instructable about insert topic here? You know what? The answer is yes. Even if nobody else on the site is even vaguely interested in insert topic here, it is probable that somebody with access to the internet, somewhere in the world, will eventually develop an interest in insert topic here and resort to Google. Since this site is googlable (is that a word?), they can end up here, grateful to you and potentially a new and useful member of the site. So, unless it breaks the guidelines for what is suitable here (basically, Please remember that this is a family site), and you're not just re-inventing the wheel, then the answer to should I? is always yes. This has become the Zeroth Law:If an Instructable exactly like yours has not already been posted, then you shall post your Instructable.Instructables are, after all, the whole point of this site. If nobody posted new Instructables, the site would shrivel and die.It doesn't matter what you make, as long as it falls within the bounds of "good taste" (define them how you will). What does matter is that you make. If you look at other sites limited to making only one kind of thing (jet engines, chests of drawers, whatever), they tend to have a slow input of new projects, with many variations on a few basic themes posted early in the site's history. Instructables has a daily project count that rarely drops below ten, and sometimes hits thirty.Addendum to the Zeroth LawIf your Instructable has an identical goal to a pre-existing Instructable, but achieves that goal by a different or improved route, or in a different style, then you shall also post your Instructable. Why the addendum? Sometimes potential posters worry - there's already a project quite like mine, so should I waste bandwidth with mine? Of course you should! Some people will prefer the first version, but other people will prefer your version - maybe it's easier to read, the photos are better, or they prefer your sense of humour. Maybe you use different raw materials, or use different tools. Either way, unless your Instructable is indistinguishable from an earlier project, you should post your own.

International zero-emmission motorsports

The world's first international hydrogen-powered motorsport race was held in Rotterdam this weekend.Dubbed the Formula Zero championship, the contest pitted teams from five countries against each other in a zero-emissions go-kart race. Each team's entry was powered by a commercial fuel cell that produces electricity from hydrogen. It may be small-scale, with only six teams entering go-kart sized vehicles, but Formula Zero is an officially-recognised motorsport, with plans for scaling up to Formula Three and the Formula One style and speeds."In 10 years if the motorsport industry as a whole hasn't engaged in zero or low emission principles, it probably won't be around," said Greg Offer, who headed up the Imperial College London team. "Teams that embrace this new technology early on will succeed, and those that don't will fall by the wayside."Racing excitement won't suffer, though; Dr. Offer says that fuel-cell powered vehicles don't represent a compromise in performance over traditional petrol-fuelled engines.'"With a combustion engine, you have to reach three or four thousand revs to get your peak power," he says. "With an electric vehicle, it's all there from standing, and they're more efficient." The next races are planned for the US in March 2009. Plenty of time to get your own entry built.Imperial TeamFormula Zero homepageBBC news article

Coke and Mentos Powered Car

Eepybird, the "Coke and Mentos Guys" used 108 2L bottles of Coke Zero and 648 Mentos to propel a car/bike 221 feet! An explanation of how it works, from their YouTube video: "The Coke Zero & Mentos Rocket Car uses a piston mechanism: a six-foot long rod sits inside a six-foot long tube attached to each bottle of Coke Zero. When the Mentos drop into the soda, the pressure tries to push the rod out of the tube. With 108 rods all pushing at once, that gives us a lot of power. All that power is pushing against a wall braced with 3,600 pounds of cement blocks. So all the force is directed into moving the Coke Zero & Mentos Rocket Car forward. We get one big push for six feet, and then it's all coasting from there."   via msnbc

ESC zero throttle power consumption? Answered

I have heard that an electronic speed controller (esc) uses some power continuously even at zero throttle. What I was told was about 0.5 amps, but it seems like it would be different based on size, voltage, etc... My UAV has two 20 amp ecs's being powered by two 4.4 Ah 11.1 volt batteries and it will need to land and sit with the power on for 3 hours after flying 2 miles and then fly back. At 0.5 amps the 3 hour sit will waste 3 Ah. I will probably need to set it up so the esc's are unpowered at zero throttle but everything else will remain powered. Does anyone know a way to calculate about how much current the esc will burn at zero throttle if you know what battery, esc, and motor you have? Or do I need to measure it directly to know?

Does infinity divided by zero theoretically equal any number other than 0 or infinity? I heard something about ohm's law applied to a circuit with an ideal voltage source (which is only theoretically possible) and having the terminals shorted out and at 0 ohms, resulting in the current going up to infinity?

What happens to the WD PiDrive Node Zero?

Hi there! This is my first time using this community function on instructable and I want to ask if anyone knows what happens to the WD PiDrive Node Zero (which is a Raspberry Pi zero add-on shown in the image if you don't know what it was)As what I have found on the internet, all shops that used to sold this have no more in stocks and I didn't find much reviews on this product either. There are quite a lot of reviews which showcase only the drive but not the drive with the adapter circuit board and the plastic enclosure. The reason why I am interested in this product is that I am currently working on a complete standalone and tiny NAS system that use minimal hardware or software powered by the 3rd party except the Raspberry Pi and Linux. I just come across this product online and feel this will be quite useful if I can get one. Anyone knows where can I get this product or what happens to this product which makes it no longer manufactured / so hard to find? Thanks in advance!

Zero to 300mph in 30 seconds. On two wheels.

Meet the world's fastest ever road vehicle built to reach an astonishing top speed of 340mph.The Acabion GTBO uses jet fighter technology and aerodynamics to reach its extraordinary speed propelled by a state-of-the-art turbo-charged engine. Its designers revealed it could reach 300mph in a blistering 30 seconds - substantially quicker than the rival Bugatti Veyron which takes 55 seconds to reach its top speed of 250mph.Good grief, that would rattle your teeth! The article implies that an electric version is in the pipeline as well.Daily Mail story750 hp and 700 lbs vehicle weight result in more than 2100 hp per ton. They boost the jet-like GTBO to jet-fighter punch and to new dimensions of both efficiency and speed.V-max 340 mph at half throttle, governor limited.0 to 300 mph in less than 30 sec.Economic theories tell us, that you can not maximize effect and minimize effort at the same time. The Acabion GTBO proves the opposite. It minimizes weight and maximizes power and aerodynamic efficiency. The effects are just out of this world.100 mph at 1.7% throttle and 100 miles per gallon.150 mph at 4.3% throttle and 62 miles per gallon.250 mph at 17% throttle and 25 miles per gallon.Acabion websiteMore photos at Jalopnik

Is there some way for me to connect the type of LCD screen with a ribbon-type DSI connection to raspberry pi zero?

Any advice on how to try and figure out how to get video input to it now?

RPi Zero and GameBoy - Can the New & Old Work Together?

So I recently found out about the Raspberry Pi Zero earlier last week. After looking at the size of the board and comparing it to the size of a GameBoy/Color/Advance/SP cartridge along with the back of a Gameboy Color/SP system, I had an interesting thought. I know that the RPi's have a great use as a video game emulator (with some case or hardware modification to the original gameboy system). I even saw one DIY article that had a GameBoy cartridge hollowed out and a Micro SD card adapter put into it, just so a heavily modded GameBoy Brick with most of its guts replaced with other techbits (mainly an RPi Zero and plenty of wires) could be used to play NES, SNES and GameBoy games while on the go. So since the Zero is slightly larger than a GBA cartridge, would it be possible to make the Zero connect to the hardware of say a GameBoy Color via the cartridge slot on the back of the console? Or what about other RPi's with other GameBoy consoles? I would try to find out about this myself, but i missed out on buying a Zero when they were first announced and i dont want to buy one from a scalper.

Don't know if this is a tiny issue or not, considering the fact that before people were able to view unpublished 'ibles, which aren't inherently private but aren't supposed to appear unless they're linked to... Has anyone used Rustguy or zero-rust converter products?

I am looking for a fast and easy product for my volunteers to use on a steam engine that is being restored and wondered if these products are any good and worth the $$$ they charge? These products seem to be an improvement over the gloping on of the Naval Jelly and hundreds of man hours of wire brushing and sanding, priming and painting... Just wanted to know from an outside source if these are good and effective so I can recommend them to the Board of Directors and not end up looking like a jerk... They already think I don't know much because I'm younger and a girl! For example, I am still trying to convince them that the engines on static display would look nicer for longer if they used an epoxy based paint instead of exterior house paint! I appreciate any thoughts you have on the two products listed, if you know anything about them! Thanks!

I need help with this code

Hello, I'm creating a PIR Sensor Alarm with Arduino. Greener Posturers - Hacking through the biodegradable, zero-carbon, ecochic overhype.

Here's a fun article from the New York Magazine.http://nymag.com/news/features/33157/Let's see: Green is the new black. Green is the new red, white, and blue. And green is the new green, or at least a new means of getting people to plunk down more of it. To some, the "green consumer" is an oxymoron (they might even drop the "oxy"). The real solution, they say, is to consume less. While there's some truth to this, a Walden-or-bust approach seems ill-suited to our present culture. Greed and vanity are alive and well; if they can be enlisted in the fight to save the planet, who are we to turn them away? With green-hype alert levels recently upgraded to orange, skepticism is warranted; here, our fictional sparring partners examine some well-intentioned products that mainly serve the buyers' self-esteem, and others that have unsuspected depths.

One shot delay timer switch without a microcontroller?

How do you output a single short pulse in an electronic  circuit after a specific period of time has elapsed after the circuit is powered on such that when the circuit is powered on, the output remains zero for x seconds then it becomes +5 V just once for y seconds then again back to zero for the remaining time much like monostable mode of 555 timer except that the pulse here is output in the middle i.e. 0v-5v-0v.
