I have also contacted one of the community managers a few days ago with no response.
Also one of my contest entries has not been accepted or rejected in a few days. All these things make me feel somehow Instructables is running slow?

Contest entries usually take days to process, since they're all sorted by a very small number of humans, who also have other duties.

I guess so. It seems a lot of the instructables are for taking part in the contests. It's a big job.
This is an amazing site I recently joined. Do these people do this as their public service interest or are commissioned?

Some are employees, others (such as myself) are simply volunteers who love the site and believe that being Makers makes the world a better place.
