Airsofters opinion. Answered

I know this site has a fair amount of people who truly do airsoft. I just got one and i was wondering what you think. It's a Colt M1911A1 i got from Dick's sporting goods. I'm not doing battles or anything, it's just for fun.
Price: $34.99
Ammo i use: 20 gram white pellet
Magazine capacity: 12
Firing: spring
Material: mostly plastic, but mechanics are metal.
FPS: 315
So, what do think? 1-10.

I'd give it an 8 or 8.5.  It seems like a good gun, but the price is a little high. If it had hop-up i would probably rate it a little higher. i have a few spring pistols, and the ones with hop-up shoot at least 2x farther than teh ones that dont.

Oh and spring guns do shoot over 280fps, snipers are spring powered, and some of them shoot 500 fps. Most pistols that u get at, say, Wallmart only shoot 250 at most, but i've owned pistols that shoot over 300, u just have to pay more for them.  I also have a Tac-1 shotgun that shoots 340 fps, yeah the springs lose power over time, but maybe 20 fps at most.

Yeah, i know you got it a Dicks, im just saying about the fps thing to the other guy.  It didn't really have anything to do with your gun.

Hop-up is an internal system that puts a slight spin on the bbs as they are fired, in most pistols its fixed in one position, but in AEGs and shotguns that have it, its adjustable most of teh time. The spin is caused by a little pin-like thing that touches the top of the bb in the front of the chamber, so it puts a backspin on it.  Really all it does is make the bb curve up after leaving the gun, but it increases the range.

If you want to move on:
SPRINGS:
Cheapest and most common, but generally lack power and range. They loose power over time.
GAS:
Very powerful and used by serious airsofters. Requires gas cans to power itself (usually sold separately).
ELECTRICITY:
The clunkiest and most expensive mech off all. However, they are well worth it as they are the most efficient guns. Used by the pros, it's hard to fault the electric guns.

seriosly it cant... the best spring gun ive seen is a shotgun ( 0.7 joule or about 280 fps) and the spring looses power.... trust me i know because a manger of a airsoft shop told me liturally everything.

i bought the same gun about a year ago, it's a very nice spring pistol.  Something i did was modify the magazine.  Take the magazine apart, take out the weights, take out the reefnorcing reams where the weights were, and cut a bb side notch into the bb channel a little bit below the bottom of the plunger.  You can now store about 2.5 times the amount of BBs now
to load the tank, fill up the channel, then pull the plunger down a little farther (u have to physically modify it to be able to do that) and the bbs will fall into the tank.

I get you, but I'm not one to modify a perfect gun.

well it's just the magazine :P

externally it looks exactly the same.

Also, a nice thing about this gun is that it spring ejects the magazine, not gravity like a bunch of cheap guns

35 bucks is in my opinion, a lot of money for a spring gun.

Fps is good, mag is big,(for a pistol)

Also, Good ammo choice!

I would say..................for a pistol, 8/10 (mainly cause of the price thing)

I myself have a Daisy 250(spring, 300 fps) or something like that, a electric pistol(280 fps), and an okay walmart rifle(electric, 250 fps)

I'd say about a six I would've voted higher if you bought it for cheaper cause I found that gun for 19.99.

P.S. Nice gun by the way
