Any Ideas what this might be???
I was out metal detecting on our property and found this
item near a license plate from 1914! This item is heave cast metal, looks like it may either
allow something to function or prevent it??? I have also found a Reach Plate for a Wagon dating in
the late 1800's.

It looks like an old power takeoff (PTO) connector for a tractor used for farming.

Good thought! I would have to look up very early lawn mowers?
Thanks:)

Non-Grease-monkey here, but here are my 2 cents:
- The cross-part may be to apply torque... Think of inverted philips screwdriver where you hold the hole and the screw has the protursion
- The cup and hole: The hole may had a thread in it. A bit hard to see from the angle of the foto...
So my guess goes in a similar direction as liquidhandwash: It may had been some sort of torque-applicator... Maybe even from a kickstart/handcrank of a car? You know? https://c8.alamy.com/comp/CBMP7N/beamish-the-north...
But yeah: Speculation on my part... I dont know really. Those are all guesses. :)
