Any tips on winding a toroid properly? Answered

Every time I try to wind a toroid for a circuit, it never works or it is very temperamental and does not cooperate with me. Any advice on how to wind a better toroid?                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Thanks!

Did you try winding the toroid using the directions in this link that's the link I used to wind my first one.

Yes, I actually followed those directions in making my first one too! However I had to remake the toroid several times to get it to work.

Did you try this link link it says that you should evenly space the wire the around the toroid.

Are you using the proper toroid and transistor then.

Transistor-yes, toroid- I bought from radioshack, cut off their wires, and wired them myself. These are the ones I use: http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3097455

You are using insulated wire, right?

Insulated or enameled wire. I use both.

Insulated wire can make the coil more lossy, that's why enamelled is used.

Its a good idea to wind the wire onto a thin shuttle that you can pass through the core and keep wire tension.

I have yet to try that, thanks! I usually just cut a long length of wire and thread it through the toroid by hand.
