Anyone build a throbbing heart? Answered

Anyone have an idea how to take a fake heart and make it throb mechanically?

IF all you need is for it to "beat" in a recognizable (rather than completely anatomical) way, constructing a two chamber heart, and sealing it off except for the arteries used to pump air in and allowing it to release quickly, would simulate a beat. There are two "obvious" beats to a "heart beat" thus the reason for the second chamber. Thump THUMP, If you need it accurate, you need all four beats. But the other two are so minor it would be difficult at best to simulate them without a lot of control (and four chambers in the heart, like an actual heart has).

I typed "beating heart" into the search box, and this was on the third page of hits.

It's not exactly what you want, but should be adaptable (and you can write your own I'ble for your version!).

It's pretty cool, alright. Alas, the heart doesn't throb (or move), but it does pump blood (kind of gurgles and drips).

Mostly mechanical means...

air pump
expanding internal mechanized structures
electromechanical plates that repel each other or move
gears with an oscillating crank
timed vibrating motor
liquid pumps
put a hamster inside.
