Get a portable tape track player and take a double male 1/4" jack cable and plug it into the headphone jack of the player. Now use a 1/4" to 1/8" jack adapter on the other end and plug it into the input on your PC's sound card.

If you want to mod it into the PC case then mount it in one of the 5.25" bays and run the audio cable internally. The motherboard/sound card should have a header for audio input on the inside of the case. Wire the headphone jack to that. Then based on how much power the player needs connect it either directly to the PCU or through a voltage regulator to the PSU and your all set.

Thanks, that sounds like the best way to go, I'll try to post a pic if it works.
