Arduino GPS Tracker Help? Answered

Hey guys, I'm using a arduino uno r3, an adafruit ultimate gps shield, and a 16gb SD card.
I have the Adafruit GPS Library and the "friendlier" SD library which is in the details for the shield online.
Whenever I try to use any programs on the arduino and shield at all, it says:
Ultimate GPSlogger Shield
Card init. failed!

Any way to fix this so I can start receiving and logging the GPS data?

Have you installed the necessary libraries?

Start by pairing back. Remove the SD card and start with just the UNO and GPS. There should be example sketches included with the library that you can find in your example drop down menu. Find the most basic GPS one (that probably outputs to serial rather than logging) and see if you can get that one running.

Once you get that working then add the SD card. If that breaks it then remove the GPS and just get the SD card working on it's own. With everything working independently it should be much easier to get everything working together.

Note: From my experience with these unassisted GPS modules you will need to move it near a window when trying to lock satellites.

The SD card is integral to the GPS board by the look of it.

That's fine, just don't use it. The point is don't try and get everything working at once.

You do realise we are neither Adafruit, nor the guys responsible for the code docmentation of the library?
Those would be the people to answer your question and the most obvious place to ask.

Hey now, be cool. There's probably a decent number of people that have worked with these specific components around here and might have run into this. Nothing wrong with suggesting the Adafruit site but there's also nothing wrong with them casting a wider net.
