Bug in text-to-HTML converter, regarding hyperlinks
In a posting to NachoMahma's Text-Formatting FAQ, I remarked on a bug in the way hyperlinks (bracketed text) are rendered.
The bug involves enclosing a hyperlink (valid or not) between punctuation characters, for example "[a-quoted-link]" or ([parenthetical-link]):

Oh kelseymh, you'll be a thorn in my side I can tell! We've known about this for a very long time but nobody has ever complained about it before so it never got high enough up on the fix list to actually be fixed. I'll bump it, it annoys me too.

I just never thought to post a bug report!
Not to mention the lack of support for character encoding in other languages. Like spanish.

Another vote for the link-punctuation fix. Noted ;) The character encoding thing is unfortunately a lot harder. It too is on the list but there are still a ton of things above it. And our readership is still something like 95% English-speaking -- of course, you could mention chickens & eggs and I would have to hum loudly and look at the sky or something.

Haha, I had to get help too-I'm not proficient enough to put that together unaided. I said "No, but I used to take lessons a while back. I must confess, I used the internet. I didn't know the word for chicken. " But I've forgotten most of my Chinese. :( It's been a few years. I do remember a few numbers and names, the word for "nostrils" (so random!), how to address people, a lot of pinyin and a few other assorted bits that stuck. It's just so time consuming!

Heh :-) I hope I won't be too much of a thorn. I've been doing HTML for more than 15 years now (since my officemate in grad school installed Tim's first viewer on his NeXT cube back in 1992). I still write my Web pages by hand (with |emacs|) so I tend to notice these things. If it's not a simple enough thing to fix, don't worry about it!
