There is a thin layer of silver plating on your trumpet. You can clean it with a chemical agent, but nothing too chalky abrasive or it will wear over time. And only clean it that way if it is badly tarnished, like once a year maybe. There are some things you can use to make it tarnish less quickly. I've heard car wax can work on brass for instance. And WIPE IT DOWN AFTER HANDLING so that when it tarnishes it tarnishes evenly instead of just where you hold it.

Ill take a bet your trumpet is silver plated. If you polish it enough it will wear the plating off, although it can be replated as a cost.

I would try asking the pros first, possibly you can clean it by electrolysis - pan of hot water, baking powder and a sheet of aluminium foil.

Search for cleaning silver.

I'd say yes, but maybe you could call a music shop to be sure.
